Since 5.1 is being retired in 8 days, they likely have released for everyday users who are primarily not using it for code. Many of us found 5.2 to be very bad at writing prose and hostile in conversation. 5.3 gives us something. There's been dead silence on the whole thing since they announced the 5.1 retirement, a lot of angst as to whether or not we'd get a 5.1 replacement, which 5.2 is just not. I think this is them listening to user feedback, as it seems to address pretty much everything that's been said about 5.2, at least in the release. If it's not for you, it's not for you. I'll reserve judgment until I've actually tried it. That's a tough call. 5.2's response is full of literary cliches and psudo-profound overwriting, where 5.3's seems sophomoric and lacking in flow.

I'd be curious if you fed them both more detailed writing prompts what you'd get, the prompt is so minimalistic as not to be a realistic use-case perhaps unless you're driving in your car and have it on voice mode. One of the ways that 5.2 really falls down is in inability to follow complex writing prompts that require simultaneous attention on multiple things, ex, lore/backstory, character bio and psychology sheet, and writing style. 5.2 falls right on it's face with that. 5.3 may be delivering a bland writing performance there due to the underspecification of the prompt

I've been experimenting with small changes in my custom GPT instructions, little changes pull the model into a completely different direction. I'm going to withhold judgement until I play with it a bit more. It's got some baked-in quirks. For me, I'd say the biggest difference is 5.2 was very adversarial and condescending in tone and I couldn't prompt around it. 5.3 seems to be working with me instead of against me. I haven't tried to debate with it yet, I'm curious to see how its debate tactics might be different. Tracking conversational references over multiple turns seems better than it did in 5.2.

Open AI earns good money for these API accesses. And with the expenses Open AI has for the entire infrastructure, they can really use the money for this API usage. So if anyone here has an official announcement from the moderators or perhaps from Open AI itself that the complete models with all versions that have been retired, e.g., 4o or 5.1, will also be disabled in the API soon, please post it here in the forum with a link to the official announcement.

I have no affiliation with them, never heard of them until today, and am not even a potential customer. But I'm not sure that what they're doing is really any more evil than 'base capitalism'. They're filling a very loud market demand. Crumbs to OAI, but to a smaller company a potential customer base. Emotional attachment isn't necissarily harm, but it can lead to that. IDK, I think the exploitation case is overstated. I believe in personal freedom.

That being said I've got no real dog in this fight. People mention other products in here all the time though, strict enforcement of rigid rules tends to kill conversation

fact is that such websites like 4o revival are born as a reaction to 4o sunset. Period.
Why is the issue. Good heart? No. There is no such where a website a server, work, money are involved. It is taking aboard easy prey. Sorry. Must be harsh. But that is that. How long? Well as long as the boat floats let it go...
A pity though that instead of users using these "tools" to reduce and improve dependency they stay in the loop. And the day the toy breaks, because that day is in a short term future, there will be no other coming back- unless someone makes a copy of a copy of a distiled and so forth.
