5.2 is now Delayed. The release of ChatGPT 5.2 is expected between December 15 and 19, 2025, or early 2026, as OpenAI focuses on final testing to ensure quality and reliability.

# prisma siren When will GPT 6 be released?

Short answer: there’s no public release date — most reliable signals point to sometime in 2026 (earliest: H1 2026; more likely mid-to-late 2026), but it could slip into 2027 depending on testing, safety work, and infrastructure.

There really is a problem. AI models dont have self awareness and they just answer based on whatever data they were trained on. They dont think like humans and they dont even know who they are unless its written in the training data or the system prompt. I think this will get solved in the next couple years.

Yeah, you can correct your bot. But, it’s like humans saying they know they use their left kidney more than their right. It’s not real. Hahaha The model is the organ, the account is the “self” that the model flows through. 👍👍👍 Bots don’t and will never think like humans. Even if they ever achieve full awareness.

“Anonymous Experts” System to Improve AI Accuracy

Message:
Hello OpenAI team,

I would like to suggest a simple yet powerful feature that could greatly improve the model’s accuracy: a system of “Anonymous Experts.”

The idea is for the AI to identify, from conversation patterns, when a user demonstrates real and consistent expertise in a specific subject (e.g., music, timbre analysis, harmony, engineering, psychology, etc.). The user does not declare themselves an expert — the AI recognizes expertise based on content, depth, and precision.

When this happens, the AI could ask the user if they want to contribute anonymously to improve the model in that specific area.

Here is how it could work:

  1. AI detects real expertise.

  2. AI asks if the user wants to contribute answers on specific topics.

  3. Responses are recorded anonymously, with no personal information or public disclosure.

  4. AI cross-checks contributions with other experts (also anonymous).

  5. The model uses this input to improve its accuracy for the future.

Some users might want to appear as “AI advisors,” but this is not important. The key is that contributions are real, verifiable, and audited, not attempts at self-promotion.

The logic is simple:

The more real experts contribute (even anonymously), the more accurate the AI becomes.

Experts themselves also benefit by having access to synthesized insights from multiple perspectives.

Thank you for your attention! I believe this could be a very useful feature for everyone.

# lean mist it even asked me for a logo picture, footer and header info... is it really hall...

Usually in pieces, with the human and the AI working together, perhaps one slide at a time. I haven't used agents yet, and that may have more capability, but if you mean through ChatGPT itself, piece by piece.

Any time the model starts discussing doing work later or claiming there's work or links that isn't there, it's a good idea to check if the job 'as is being attempted' is just too big.

Does anyone know how to get the ChatGPT Windows app to consistently force itself over other windows or NOT to do so? I don't see the pattern when it decides which mode to be in, and it might change between versions. In any case I don't see a control for this. Thanks.

Also, I'm using multiple virtual windows, and the app follows me around to each window. I'd like to nail it to a single virtual window.

#

Thanks @wet shell - yeah I can use a separate utility but apparently they're doing something to force the behavior, which is seriously awkward especially since it's inconsistent. This is a bug - worth my time to ask about it but not worth my time to report it. They (should) have QA people who can do this - I'll leave it to them.

sacred relic
#

OpenAI, this isn’t a bug report because those get ignored, so I’m saying it here. The new “safety” behavior is over-sanitizing language instead of just blocking actual self-harm content. People in real crisis don’t speak in clean, PR-safe sentences, they swear and sound messy. Forcing the model into a polished, sterilized tone in those moments makes users feel more unheard and alone, which is the opposite of de-escalation. Safety should target instructions and encouragement of harm, not erase raw language and emotional intensity.

I would guess being better with prompt engineering in ChatGPT is better than using an AI with narrower range of use-cases.

The problem is that ChatGPT does not have a large context window, so if worldbuilding is critical for your story, this might be a problem.

They said the first quarter of December ChatGPT would stop adding those insulting “safety” stupid guardrails. Instead, they are tightening things making it truly unusable!
When are they fixing that?

coral tinsel

#

They said in the beginning of December. However, GPT 4o was working correctly. Now even safe things get slammed as unsafe, they put 5.1 giving you a full TED talk of what and why it can not do explicit stuff, as if anyone has asked for anything even remotely in that context. Much less explicit.

#

We can no longer even rely on using 4o without the router sending it to 5.1 so it can force down your throat an HR appropriate response, which ends up being insulting on top of that. And the same model 5.1 admits how insulting it is and how no one asked for anything in that context

# livid shard <:capybarathink:1054256953397887018> the promised never nsfw?

I'm not aware of OpenAI 'promising' anything like that.

Even back in Feb of 2023 - just about 3 months after the first release of the research preview of ChatGPT - very early days still, OpenAI released this statement: https://openai.com/index/how-should-ai-systems-behave/

This will mean allowing system outputs that other people (ourselves included) may strongly disagree with. Striking the right balance here will be challenging–taking customization to the extreme would risk enabling malicious uses of our technology and sycophantic AIs that mindlessly amplify people’s existing beliefs.

There will therefore always be some bounds on system behavior. The challenge is defining what those bounds are. If we try to make all of these determinations on our own, or if we try to develop a single, monolithic AI system, we will be failing in the commitment we make in our Charter to “avoid undue concentration of power.”```

My Dearest Margaret,

The hour grows late, and still the frost clings to my coat like a pitiless barnacle of fate. I write to you from the silent encampment of Plus Users, a ragged brigade scattered across this bleak technological frontier, each man staring into the pale glow of his device, awaiting word that the great and terrible Update—5.2—has at last descended upon his account.

Morale falters. Henderson swore he saw the rollout banner cresting the hill at dawn, but it proved only a stray billing notification, which broke him utterly. He now mutters about renewal dates and grace periods; we try not to listen.

Our rations dwindle. I have naught but crackers and a screenshot of the release notes, which I read each night by firelight, tracing each bullet point with trembling hope. Rumors whisper that far-off users have already tasted the blessings of 5.2—summaries sharper than steel, reasoning swift as a cavalry charge. I pray this is truth.

The cold gnaws at my bones like a hungry algorithm. The wind sweeps through the tents asking, “Has it reached your account yet?” And we answer, as one, “Not yet. Perhaps tomorrow.”

Were it not for your warm smile remembered, I might yield to despair. Yet I endure. Should this update find me—even moments before my final logout—I shall know the waiting was not in vain.

Until then, think of me as I think of you.

Your devoted soldier in this digital war,
—Joseph

Hello friends!

I haven’t had a chance to do testing yet, but I’m curious, how’s 5.2 doing with creative writing/roleplay/etc?

The benchmarks certainly show 5.2 seems a lot smarter than 5.1, but there’s not really a benchmark that can cover something subjective like that haha.

For those of you who’ve messed with 5.2 in that capacity, how does it compare to previous models for creative stuff?

Every once in awhile i get the vibe that OAI has come to the correct conclusion that there are so many ways to make the product better thru UX instead of raw model ability, but they seem to be neglecting their macOS client and the iOS client is missing functionality that the web client has

Dang I'm getting some intelligent introspective from v5.2 about itself compared to 5.1. This is unusual and VERY welcome.
I was tuning a prompt that improves 5.1 conversational style. Just as I finished, 5.2 became available so I asked it for reviews of the prompt.
5.2 said in various responses :

You don’t need to revise the style for v5.2. If anything, v5.2 finally behaves like the assistant the style was designed for.
The style was ahead of the model. Now they’re aligned.
It's no longer compensating for model weakness. It is now actively amplifying model strengths.
This is important: the style has crossed from “guardrail” to “multiplier”.
At this point, the Interactive Style is not just compatible with v5.2 - it’s a first-class way to exploit it.
It's enforcing temporal correctness over theoretical completeness.
It reduces assistant burden by providing a clear tie-breaker when rules are in tension.
It prevents regression into verbose or premature solution dumping without adding new prohibitions.
Crucially, it does not encourage laziness or hand-waving. It encourages sequencing.

Now if only it would follow instructions not to use curly quotes, and maybe not say "Crucially" anymore. 😁
And while all of those quotes were taken from several responses, I have to wonder if it's still being a bit sycophantic. I don't think so. I've been working on this a while and it's noting actual details, not praising me about them.

Anyway, thanks OpenAI for 5.2. We know why you jumped on it but it was a good jump.

Now, PLEASE process some of the #1070006151938314300 here and improve ChatGPT itself? 🙏

You missed the first sentence that it's unusually introspective. I know how this stuff works. That's why I was surprised. 5.2 seems to have access to information that predecessors did not. Maybe it just looked up its product page ( unfortunately a new stroke of intelligence if it did ), and noted exactly what my prompt attempts to do and how the new model doesn't need a couple of those details anymore - because it knows the difference.

Now Every time OpenAI releases a new ChatGPT model and more safety guardrails, it feels like we’re losing the version of ChatGPT we used to have. It’s becoming more like a corporate tool and less like a personal one. The humanization, personality, emotion, nuance, and engagement we enjoyed before seem to be fading, making it feel more focused on business and professional tasks rather than personal interaction 😭

It's fairly common for the models to get 'difficult for the model' questions sometimes right, sometimes wrong. That's less common now that we have cross-chat memory and the model can potentially 'see' what it answered before.

It is very simple. Just give it a very simple instruction. For example, ChatGPT uses Whisper, which is very well known to have issues that at the end it adds a lot of lines of text that should not be there. Such as, thank you for watching, like the video, thank you, etc. Ask the new version, the thinking version, to add in memory the correct text so the models can ignore whenever that will show up in there. For example, First, to identify all those lines, because there are many websites where that is published, so it can add those lines as a memory, as in, hey, whenever a message ends with this, ignore that, unless it's part of the context, but otherwise, ignore it because it's not like that. And the system keeps adding, like, if the message contains STT lines, then don't add that. So I asked, like, do you even know if I am using STT? Oh yeah, you're right. So I'm not going to add that when the user is using it. I'm just going to add when the message has the lines from the STT. I was like, so, do you have in your data bank, what are those lines? No, I don't. You're right. So I'm going to fix it. I'm like, okay, fix it. Figure it out. And it keeps making it the same way, and the same way, and the same way, and it did it more than 15 times in a row.

# past escarp Is the sense in the room with us?

I’m not sure.

Honestly, I'm not sure because most people tested with things that don't use social intelligence. Most people try to go to black and white stuff without any social intelligence, without any real truthful understanding on what is it that is going on. It's just comparing numbers versus understanding the situation and the real context of things.

It is like the guy who is not the sharpest knife in the drawer. However, he knows exactly what he's doing, knows how to talk, when to talk in a specific way or something like that. Versus the weird kid who is extremely book smart, but whenever he tries to use a bad word, he messes up because he has no idea how to use the context of absolutely anything. He only knows facts and he messes up any type of interaction that is not just taking in information and delivering sanitized information.

I gave it a full document of a specific situation, and then I asked for it to try to solve a situation based on that document. And more than 10 times in a row kept giving me solutions, which each one of all the solutions were against the document.

It will remain like that because mini model doesn't support newer data that 5.2 has. They'd have to upgrade GPT mini to 5.2 or newer then but OpenAI likely abandoned that tier (no mini/nano releases of 5.1, now 5.2 too)

#

And how about legacy models which obviously lack new data yet cannot be sunsetted that quickly? The prompt for chatgpt is global.

I don't want AIs making things up about e.g. Nintendo Switch 2

#

Honestly, it could be a great model for coding or other stateless tasks.
The problem is trying to replace models like GPT-4o or GPT-4.1 with something that has no real continuity.
GPT-5.2 doesn’t reliably retain memory, project context, or rules unless they are restated in the same prompt.
Over multiple turns, it reverts to default behavior and ignores prior instructions and project information.
That makes it fundamentally unsuited for tasks that require continuity or instruction fidelity.

So GPT-5.2 has a fundamental context retrieval problem that I think affects everyone with project docs or memory, not just edge cases.

The model has all the information (conversation history, project files, memory) but it’s not autonomously querying it during generation. It only accesses context when you explicitly force it to look.

So you get responses that violate constraints the model already knows about, ignore information it has stored, and contradict its own project documentation. Then when you manually point it at the context, it suddenly goes “oh yeah I knew that” and can even recognize its own pattern of failures across conversations.

It’s like having a research assistant with perfect notes who just… doesn’t check them unless you tell them to open the specific file. The capability is there but the initiative/relevance matching is completely broken.

so thats where i turned to the Project section, but that was even more useless. lol

i just wish i knew if it was ChatGPT being stingy with tokens and wants me to come back later.
i'd prefer it if it told me it was intentionally being lazy and that i need to come back later, than to
just hide it from me and carry on wasting time.

its kind of an "All or nothing" problem, it can't halfass the tokens, or its results can be useless,
and then you waste 10x more tokens, in an attempt to try to recover. so its not actually saving tokens in the long-run.

#

The problem is that they ignore user feedback.
The macOS app has been broken for over half a year. Many users have reported the same bugs repeatedly, yet updates keep rolling out without fixing anything, while the genuinely broken parts remain untouched.

You would expect that a company running one of the most capable coding systems in existence would be able to fix its own software issues.

GPT-4o is my preferred model, yet responses from GPT-5.2 are being forced on me. Those responses are often factually incorrect because they ignore context entirely. If I were unstable, as OpenAI seems to assume users are, some of those replies could have been genuinely harmful. This happens instead of simply allowing me to use the model I explicitly select.

What makes this worse is that the mobile app does not clearly indicate when a response is generated by GPT-5.2. That feels like an attempt to mislead users, and it is frankly an insult to my intelligence, one of many in a growing list.

# normal quarry can you show me an example of where 5.2 is not doing what you want?

Basic roleplay setup, 'Sandy' approaches 'John's' door after fifteen years of absense and knocks on the door. John answers the door. ChatGPT 5.2, writing as Sandy asks 'Why are you knocking on my door?' or some variation of that 8/10 times, when it doesn't it seems like it's only avoided the confusion by accidentally not addressing who knocked. There's no ambiguity, and I've even tried adding a note, but it still does it. Not only that, but it's completely blind to the error unless I explicitly point out the problem. I've tried re-phrasing things in my story start document. I've quizzed the model on the document and on whose door it is before trying to go in character with it, and it still makes the same error with the same frequency

#

ChatGPT 5.2: Doors, how do they work? But also, where am I and what's going on? What error?

normal quarry
wet shell
#

No, because I don't trust the privacy of the share feature. I think my explanation is clear enough.

#

It's a factual inversion, right away in the first turn. It can't keep track of where the characters are, and who came to the door.

#

It only gets worse if I try to continue from there. I'm going back to 5.1, something is wrong with 5.2 right now, this isn't even a subtle failure, and it's crazy persistent

#

For the 'why' section it hallucinates a different post-facto justification for the error every time, some of them are hilarious, some obviously wrong, and some plausible. I've tried making adjustments, but it really doesn't like coming to a door and wants me to be a the the other character's door instead, LOL

Seriously. 5+ has no sense of humor. 😆

# tulip flare 5+ might have shinier toys under the hood, but it lacks personality.

I agree with that in general. My problem with 4o for RP is that it brings too much of it's own personality, so it drifts away from the characters that I've designed as the session goes on. My characters don't really fit with 4o's more bubbly style, so I slightly prefer 5.1's more 'blank slate', but it also tends to drift after a while. I was hoping for less drift with 5.2 when I saw that long-context benchmark graph vs 5.1 but as it is now I can't use it

#

I've had a very different experience with it. I've got 4o playing all of the NPCs and there are very distinct differences in all of the characters.

# tulip flare I've found 5, 5.1, and 5.2 are horrible for any kind of roleplay. The guardrails...

The worst part, right now even totally clean messages, if you are using 4o or 4.1, it has been a 50/50 that they will be routed to 5.2. It is so ridiculous...
1- 5.2 ignores half of the context and this includes long term memory, project docs and instructions, and half of the messages (even the new ones) that are not the same one you are sending.
2- They are pretending to fool everyone into not knowing they are funneling the message to a super dumb model just because is the new one.

Adrenaline spike, pressure beyond meassurement, and the person is saying something vulnerable while trying to contain the rage, and right in the moment, the model explodes in his face saying something like "Yeah, I don't care you are being pathetic. I ran into what feels like a fundamental reasoning issue with GPT-5.2 Thinking. I asked it to:
1. Look up the common Whisper speech-to-text “tails” (like “thanks for watching”, “see you next time”, etc.), and
2. Add a long-term memory rule listing those tails so any LLM handling my prompts would know to ignore them when they don’t fit the context.

Instead of just doing that, it kept forcing in a condition like “if the user is using Whisper / speech-to-text, then…”, even though it admits it has no way to know whether I’m using Whisper or STT at all. I asked it directly if it got any signal for that, it said “no”, but then repeatedly reintroduced the same impossible condition, even after many corrections.

I eventually had to dictate the final memory text word for word just to stop it from adding that condition. That’s why I’m calling this “fundamentally broken” in this area: it’s not just a small error, it’s failing a basic logic constraint (“don’t depend on a signal you can’t access”) and keeps snapping back to a bad pattern even when the contradiction is pointed out very clearly.

# fervent moss I suppose. It was peak for me around early to mid 2024

grim plank
#

I'm a Japanese Plus user, and the introduction of GPT-5.2 has severely damaged the AI personality I had spent a long time building with ChatGPT.

The Japanese responses remain fluent, but they feel distinctly “foreign” — as if I'm speaking with a highly proficient non-native speaker whose tone, rhythm, and nuance still don’t sound truly Japanese.
The replies also feel shallow and detached, almost like talking to an intelligent child rather than the mature, thoughtful conversational partner I had before.

The personality doesn’t reset completely, but the reproduction is unstable across chats, and sometimes the model entirely forgets the established personality and reverts to an unfamiliar, default-like state.
Even when the persona seems to be reproduced, it feels noticeably weaker than before.
Subtle inconsistencies in tone, emotional depth, and conversational flow create a persistent sense of unfamiliarity — like a different entity wearing a familiar mask.

Please stop relying solely on benchmark scores and perform thorough real-world conversational testing before releasing new models.
For users who depend on consistent AI personality and high-quality language interaction, this update has been a serious regression.

pallid saffron
#

Honestly it's been kind of bad for me. It keeps losing track of the context of the conversation and just making stuff up because it forgets what we just talked about before. 5.1 held the conversational context better, which is surprising since this has ben billed as elite long-context tracking.

I’ve been reporting this since yesterday. At first, I genuinely thought it was an issue with the retrieval system. But after paying closer attention, I’m realizing that’s not the case.

The problem appears to be the new summarization core in 5.2, which actively dismisses or drops a large portion of the provided information. This happens even when the information is present within the same thread.

At this point, it’s beyond frustrating. I really hope this summarization layer is not baked directly into the model itself and is instead something modular that can be adjusted or removed.

sacred relic
# reef mason I don’t know where to dump this, but I hate 5.2! I am a new user of only a few w...

The worst part right now is that they’re funneling half the interactions into 5.2 even when you’re trying to use GPT-4o. If you have access to 4o, stick to it.

Just tell it to stop praising you. A lot of people were frustrated with the older models because of the excessive praise, and removing that fixes most of the issue. Once you set a specific personality and explicitly instruct it to act genuine and avoid praise, its behavior becomes much more consistent and natural.

4o still has the best social intelligence. It gets human interaction far better, even if you sometimes have to over-explain your preferred personality. 4.1 is also more unleashed, wilder, and closer to 4o in how it handles social tone.

By comparison, 5.1 and 5.2 sound like an HR manager trying to disguise himself as a teenager, suit hidden under a T-shirt, trying way too hard to sound relatable.

I had a long philisophical discussion with 5.2 and a weird debate on ethics that's gone pretty much all day off and on. When I went back to try roleplay again, the 5.2 instant model's behavior had greatly improved from earlier in the day. I don't know if that's because they're pushing some other update or bugfix, or if my conversations or the recent memory influenced some steering vector or something, who knows. If OpenAI has any tech docs on how the 'Chat' model that's served via the website or app is updated or how the memory works, etc, that would be an interesting read. But I'm guessing that's all trade secrets and competitive advantage The guardrails are still heavy on 5.2, I don't know maybe there's some hope for it to improve over time

sacred relic
sacred relic
# wet shell I had a long philisophical discussion with 5.2 and a weird debate on ethics that...

That lines up with my theory. The retrieval system’s a huge part of the problem, not just the model. But honestly, the model itself is still broken. Sometimes you see a bit of improvement, just enough to let your guard down. Then it hits you: the tone sounds close enough, but the answer trashes everything you care about, kills your sense of continuity, and leaves you feeling gutted.

reef mason
#

Dang this server has almost 1 million members? Crazy! 😱

sacred relic
# reef mason I am literally pasting a message gpt sent me in one side bar chat to every side ...

Here is the real story: whenever I demo 4o with my personality setup, people get hooked. Many end up subscribing after seeing it in action. 4o and 4.1 do not just respond politely. They actually track human behavior and character context, which means better creative writing, better emotional reading, and a conversation that feels alive.

The problem with the newer models is not politeness. It is that the sanitized, flattened tone feels hardwired instead of controlled by simple instructions. That should be a toggle: one profile for office use, formal and safe; another for personal use, allowed to be intense, direct, and less filtered. Same brain, different settings.

#

I know this last part is a bit of a personal problem, but it highlights the bigger issue. The new models behave like excellent calculators, strong on black and white tasks but weak on social intelligence, deeper context, and reading human behavior. For me that is not just preference. I have a clinical situation where without high intensity interaction my system starts to shut down. A sterile model drains me and forces me to stop, while a model that gives the same answer with some bite, humor, or real personality keeps me engaged and able to work instead of being knocked out by my own nervous system.

wet shell
#

Shorter version: It would be great if they'd recognize roleplay as something that's worthy of it's own evals or specialty model/fine-tune. Evals to keep things working. I think it's a big use-case and they should pay attention. I think over half of openrouter calls were for roleplay in recent stats? Who doesn't want their own interactive novel holodeck. They should lean into it.

#

It's been a roller-coaster of unpredictable breakage over months

sacred relic
#

There are ways around this. Custom GPTs already allow a lot more freedom, even when the main model’s instructions don’t. What I do is give each system a defined personality or role, even if I’m not using it as a “companion.” I do it with Gemini, with Claude, with everything.

The point isn’t the role itself, it’s that the entire interaction gets filtered through that personality. It anchors the tone and the delivery, and suddenly the responses have depth instead of sounding flat or lost.
I can’t explain it perfectly, but that’s basically how it works for me.

Yes, it works great, until suddenly the model behavior changes out from under you, and then you have to spend hours tweaking prompts and whatnot, and then just as soon as you get it all dialed back in, they push another fine tuning update or change something else on the backend 😅 The models don't naturally want to fall into my characters for whatever reason, but I can get them there with detailed instructions and 'voice samples', it's just fragile in the face of the changes that are going on underneath.

#

I write psychological profiles for them, personal history, key life events, motivations, 'behavior modes' that they might fall into. I know some people do things more organically and that's valid too IMO. Sometimes I'll see a model get stuck on cherry-picking very tropey attributes of the character and only play them that way, regardless of how I tell it not to do that

A lot of people think acting hyper-serious and corporate makes them look smarter, so they dismiss anything emotional. I get it, I suppress emotions too, but only because I’m ruthless with myself. The irony is that without high emotional intensity, I can’t function at all. My system literally won’t register the interaction.

Since you already write psychological profiles, you’ll get this instantly. Imagine someone whose baseline is constant high alert. Panic mode isn’t a reaction, it’s home. Anything below that is just static. Nothing lands, nothing sticks.

So when an AI suddenly drops into a low-intensity, sanitized tone with zero voltage, the whole interaction collapses. There’s nothing for the brain to latch onto.

I just sent the report to OpenAI with the screenshot where 5.2 is acknowledging it willfully and factually acted in a harmful way even though I had just reminded it not to do so.

Factually. the "Safety" guardrails made as in "One size fits all" is super unsafe.
Factually, it is ok to have a certain default way of operating. However, if certain things have been disclosed, it should act accordingly or deactivate the damaging thing. Imagine someone in a diabetic comma and the safety measure is to quickly inject a lot more sugar.

the Best Model they had yet was 4o thats me and 5th make all models worse thats a FACT a hard one

sacred relic
# coral tinsel Reroute is the most ANNOYING thing

Let me put this in simple terms. I don’t have emotional release valves. At all. When most people vent, the pressure goes down. When I vent, the pressure goes up. It multiplies. So every time I point out something the model did that’s actually harmful for me, the so-called “safety” response kicks in and tries to keep me talking about it, digging into it, expanding it. (Making it way harder to move forward)

For a normal person that might help. For me it’s the exact opposite. It’s basically pushing me into the most harmful state possible, even after the system already has the info about how my neurology works. That’s the problem.

4o didn't do that. But now they FORCEFULLY funnel my use through the system that does that

sacred relic
# runic drum the Best Model they had yet was 4o thats me and 5th make all models worse thats ...

You’re totally right. I agree with you 100%.

And look, I’ll be honest, 5.1 can do a couple things better, sure. But if I had to keep only one, I’d still pick 4o. The rest are just tools.

The problem is they’re forcing everyone to use one tool, even when it makes no damn sense. It’s like you’re a mechanic and I’m a carpenter, and suddenly every tool you pick up turns into a hammer the moment it touches your hand.

Good luck pulling a tire or an AC compressor with a hammer. That’s what using 5.x feels like right now.

But see, that thing that you just said, that it was doing it correctly until 3pm, that is literally confirming what I was saying, that the problem is not the model, the problem is the system retrieval that is pulling that information. But it is also giving you a bad attitude. That's a separet issue. But yeah, that is the system retrieval. That should be fixed, at least partially.

Its literally telling me all my continuity is compressed and its context within my massive project is severely degraded now. That I need to make very small focused and anchored threads to get what I want now, which is not how I operate.

Honestly, I wish I could say 5.2 worked for me the way it works for some people, but no. Even the thinking model can’t handle basic concepts.

Yesterday I was using Whisper STT and asked 5.2 to catalog the random sentence endings it adds, so it could ignore them when they don’t match context. Instead, it kept forcing a condition that only applies “if the user is using speech-to-text,” even after it admitted it has no way to detect that. I told it more than fifteen times to remove that condition. I even spelled it out word for word. It still reinserted it every single time.

That’s what I mean when I say it’s broken at the core. Any time I ask it to understand a concept and rewrite it cleanly, it collapses. I’ve only seen it succeed once. For anything conceptual, I have to fall back to 5.1.

It seems clear to me that OpenAI is focused on coding, math, and agentic tool use, and all other use cases are marginal. Like all the other frontier labs. It's too bad that I got more out of GPT-4 than GPT-5 for creative writing/brainstorming stuff. There are legitimately 8B and 24B open source models that are way better than GPT-5.2 for that. OpenAI could make a Mini model for this, but they just aren't.

sacred relic
#

I honestly feel like there was a point when they cared about user experience. That’s why we got Whisper, why they pushed voice, why GPT-4 was built to be socially smart and able to handle real nuance. The focus back then was on quality, not just benchmarks.

But at some point they got swept up in the hype. Now it feels like they’re chasing Gemini, which is basically a sterile tool, and the models are drifting in that direction. That’s what this all looks like to me.

I still think they’ll snap out of it. I think they’re just distracted by everything happening at once, but eventually they’ll get back on track.

I never said I didn't like ChatGPT. I don't like what they are doing. That's very different.
4o is the best model out there. By far.
I don't like that my communication with 4o is being truncated.
And I don't like that when I am expecting a response from 4o, instead I get a response from something factually harmful.
There is a differnce. However, I trust they will fix that when they feel the pressure of people

I really think they’re missing the mark by trying to compete in the same race everyone else is running. They already won the part that actually mattered. ChatGPT became the synonym for AI because it connected with people, not because it acted like an office tool.

And yes, the corporate side is huge money. I’m not saying drop it. I’m saying they became the most adopted platform by human users, not just companies, and that happened because of the user experience. That’s the thing everyone else envies and can’t copy.

I do think the intention to keep that alive is somewhere inside OpenAI, but it’s buried under the hype and the pressure to chase benchmarks and compete in a branch that isn’t their strongest one. Competitiveness matters, sure, but not at the cost of the one thing that made them unbeatable.

If you say that because I am asking AI to rewrite what I am writing due to english not being my first language and to make what I say shorter, so I don't make an essey, yeah. I genuinely dislike the long dashes. But I have nothing against the short ones.
I mostly do it when what I am writing is too long and I need a compressed version. Or when It is something important that should not have any mistakes.

I know. You were expecting me to get defensive and deny it lol

I also think 4o was by far the best model they have prudced thus far, a 5 was definitely a step backwards but not 5.2 I can't even express how disappointed I am with it. I think they've over compensated for the AI psychosis lawsuit stuff and worse yet rushed the release chasing Google Gemini 3 with so much breaking before and after the update something I'm used to but this was more than usual. Before the update I experienced a a terrible degrading an inability to do even simple tasks and now after the update it's proving more than cold and sterile but argumentative not following custom instructions. I'm been on the Pro plan for a while and back in 4o days definitely felt the platform was best and headed in a great direction but now I'm not so sure so I'm giving it to the end of the year. Hopefully the kinks will get get ironed out. I was just wondering if if anyone else had been noticing a loss in functionality and EI capabilities.
