What is the best way to add a chatbot to a website that connects to the chatkit? I set up a local react/Next.js server with a tunnel using OpenAI Chatkit git and it sucked (I'm sure it's on my end but it was not easy.)

Hello, I am a ChatGPT plus user on macOS and I was using it a lot for the "Work with PyCharm" feature, since the results have been really good. But since about 3 weeks, there seems to have been a change in the time-out timer and almost all of my requests time-out, rendering the feature virtually useless for me. With reddit, it's hard to say. Sometimes it's just a snowball effect, some early downvotes cause others to just reflexively downvote too. Probably there's a lot of general 'anti-moderation' sentiment bouncing around the zeitgeist right now, people feel muzzled and silenced in public spaces... which aren't really public spaces so much as corporate enclaves, but true public spaces require going outside and now increasing risk exposure 🤷 I don't know the context of the convo.

Very likely legit based on consistency with other support email screenshots that are floating around and OAI employee messaging on social media. I had a longer response but it got eaten by the channel bot, LOL. I don't think it's ever going back to the way it was, but that's just my opinion. A lot of us feel the same way, but it's the typical corporate wall of silence. We don't know if they're hearing any feedback or taking any of it seriously. Nobody knows if it'll ever get back to the way it was. I used to read around fifty novels a year, over time I stopped reading them and just made my own stories interactively through roleplay with chatgpt. It hurts to lose it, feels about the same as 'books are no longer published now find a new hobby', but the lesson I'm taking from this is that I shouldn't trust corporations or cloud services that I don't control myself. Local models will get better, and I'll treat any corporate hosted products as likely-to-be-gone-or-broken at any time.

Totally agree, I resent being treated like a child or like i’m emotionally fragile for expressing any kind of emotion. I also use chatgpt as a writing assistant for various projects and it’s worthless for that now which is quite disappointing. But as you said the current guardrails aren’t just overzealous but are actively intrusive and presume bad faith on the part of the user. I think the trouble is OpenAI is trying to be all things to all men but you can’t really take corporate dollars and have a product for autonomy and creativity, the two are just incompatible. Corporates want clean, safe products that won’t embarrass them or get them into hot water. You, me and a lot of other users want to be treated with respect and to have an outlet for creativity and to not have our intellegence insulted or have the worst motives assumed on our part just because some other people struggle with AI. OpenAI has the right of course to make any business decision it likes and it’s their product so they get to say how it’s used but my main problem has been the transparency, they say one thing, the policies say one thing but the reality looks nothing like it. They are talking out of both sides of their mouths and making the experience worse for all of us.

GPT-5 uses instant and thinking modes, if you’re a free user you won’t be able to switch between them as it’ll auto select each time depending on whether the model thinks it needs more time to respond accurately, but I believe to get the option you need to be a paid user, like Plus or Pro.

Oh I got it, you’re talking about the system tray, not the taskbar. In that case, first you’re going to want to close out of ChatGPT if it’s currently open, use Task manager then end task if needed, then clean the old tray icons by hitting Windows key + R, type control /name Microsoft.NotificationAreaIcons, then press Enter. In the window that pops up, find the ChatGPT app and uncheck “show icon and notifications”. Then click ok. That will hide it permanently until you reopen the app.

I have challenges learning some material - lifelong that's been a problem - with human teachers, self study, formal classes, whatever. That didn't 'magically go away' because of ChatGPT, I still have my same challenges that I have.

The model doesn't magically make it effortless - instead it can customize support and provide what the learner realizes the learner needs.

Do I need to see multiple choice questions I answer about the material? How about 6 wrong ways to solve an equation - and one right? I pick from the 7? ChatGPT can provide that, I just need to ask.

I need to see someone use the material in a project? ChatGPT can describe that, I just need to ask.

I have been in real life human-taught classes, all grade levels, and had human teachers give incorrect info.

I was the sort of student that challenged teachers on that, both privately and publicly - brought evidence that they were giving incorrect info too.

If human teachers are not perfect, why fear that an AI tutor might not be perfect?

I double check anything that matters to me. I don't expect anything to be necessarily exactly and perfectly correct until I check it myself - and then I think it's only 'definitely true to the limits I can tell, the times I tested, remember stuff can change and I may not have controlled all the factors that matter'.

So, why fear AI errors? They're even more testable and checkable.

When an AI makes stuff up from nothing then each new chat it gives different answers. That's so easy to notice, just make a new chat and ask the same question again.

When an AI gives info that is common human understanding, but is wrong - it's no different from a human doing that, equally hard to check.

But, literally, why fear AI error more than human error? I personally don't trust either more or less, I compare what I learn to all else I know and look for holes and flaws and problems.

Hey everyone,
I’ve noticed the Move to project and drag and drop features for existing chats have disappeared. These were previously documented and working, but now there’s no option to move existing chats into projects at all.

This change completely breaks my workflow. I keep my chats organised by theme, like Beauty and Financial, and now I can’t retroactively group or tidy anything. It causes duplication and confusion, and the documentation still says the feature exists.

Can anyone confirm if this is a known regression or a deliberate removal? And if OpenAI sees this, please restore it or provide an official alternative for managing chat organisation.

What's the file upload limit before they tell you to try again later? I was creating a project folder and kept having to create a couple new iterations of the folder and re-upload my txt files to each, because I accidentally included a file that I didn't want it referencing, but even after removing it, despite not asking a question yet, it would reference the file anyway when I proceeded with my first message. The project was set to only memorize/reference content within the project by the way, not elsewhere. Kinda annoying, so I re-made a new project, only to hit the file upload limit where I have to wait 1.5 hours to upload the rest. All files total just 800 kb combined, but seems like they don't account for size in the limit, just number of files total within x time frame 🙁 I'm on Plus.

Sometimes I wish chatGPT can come at me from different angles. It always seems to have the same angle every time. It's almost as if it needs some kind of "personality core" variety, but even when it has a personality, it just can't articulate things that require a level of savior faire to really talk about. I tell the AI a hypothetical and sometimes it gives me a variety of how it interprits what I say, but it can't interprit something spoken so simply as complex if it's really complex very well. The idea that words can be spoken in a concise manner sometimes seems to never really help chatGPT know what you meant. Let me give you a "simple" example of what I mean.

I tell chatGPT to make a list of elements regarding a particular topic and it'll do it, but not without making elements that can overlap even if not directly or adding elements that don't fit into the same tier of category for that subject. I tell chatGPT to orthogonalize the list and the best analogy I can think of for what it does is like springs and gears just popping out of its head. Suddenly there's different "ways" to orthogonalize a list to the point in which I might as well wrote the list myself. Sometimes elements aren't even on the list when I mention to make the list exhaustive, but I can forgive that because you can't really expect it to have that level of understanding nor another person about what you ask for, but to be unable to fix a list around instructions you already gave it is something I was expecting it should be able to do.

Obviously I have more complex things in mind than making a list, but I used that as a simple example of what it can't seem to do to get an idea that there's this "level" of understanding it can't reach which is critical to interpriting certain complex subjects, even if it can understand elements in a list of those subjects.

All Models now have a Rerouting at the first output of the thread. Even if you choose 4 or 4.1 or other at the output it will parse through 5- you see the change- then revert to whatever model you had.
this enables the moderation in the start of the runtime rutine.

For those of you that use characters sheets in project customization or in the account customization you set complex descriptions of how gpt should behave:
these are no longer mandatory.

Guys just purchasing this Plus version is already promising, even my interactions and the snapshots of files are already clearer, no more compact files but full file preview, I just downloaded a 1/10000 fraction of the zip and the sample inside looks good so far. The full package in the open folder is 93 MB, and I did a fast compression, which gave me a zipped file of 92 MB (note that I did that yesterday because tougher compressions were taking too long, so at some point I started thinking I should tray with a faster one and see if my download link will appear, which it still did not.).
Now it won't still download the file but at least it gave me the link. And according to chatGPT I can't download files that are more than 20 MB at once so I am trying an archive split now.... 😴

Plus, try from a tablet or phone just as a small use case. Web and Desktop has had unique problems that are not replicated in the mobile variants.

Recently there's been a bug with memories, both deleting and adding. I made a #1070006915414900886 about it, I noticed that I could in some cases clear memory and check back later and they were restored. I tried multiple times and finally got the memory set the way I wanted it, and it stayed that way, but it did take a lot of attempts and checking back later, then starting over again.

There is one other possible issue that would not be memory related but could possibly cause these patterns.

There's a few things in training data that really 'distract the model' and cause weird patterns.

One recent, but seems already improved one is mention of 'seahorse emoji'. So, there's a chance that despite your earlier experiments and removing that info, there's some training data-related behavior issue there.

It sounds like you're describing a model hallucination - work is not happening offline between messages. Work can happen inside a message, but when that happens you get information about it, such as research notes, thinking details, progress bar on image generation, the scroll of Canvas being updated.

However, when we ask the model for stuff that is 'too big' for one output, especially if it's much too big, the model may reply with 'working on it!' and go into roleplay about what it just can't do but was told to do.

Fixes for that - new chat, ask if the goal you want can be done in one step or many, how to break it up and work with the model and guide it so that it can be done.

As long as the model is giving you outputs that show progress towards what you ask for - show it.

Like if you ask for an essay, you get an essay. If you ask for a book chapter, you get PART of a book chapter. Those are both fine, because you can iterate and extend them.

You ask for a 500-page book, and it tells you that it's working on it, will have progress by tonight - no no no no - that is roleplay. That will not directly get you your book.

You can 'save that' if you really want to, like roleplay back "Okay, it's 4 PM, almost tonight! Let's see the first few pages" - note I stopped asking for the whole book, played along with the idea of time, but made the request small and managable.

It's such an incredibly difficult and painful topic.

Nothing we currently know of has 100% success rate, and even if AI helped stabilize and preserve 99%+ of those who turned to the model, and failed with a few - that a few failed with can be the reason to say 'this is not okay', even if other known and accepted answers have a lower success rate.

That's why new options have clinical trials, ideally 'blinded' so nobody knows who is getting which treatments.

I suspect that people trying to get help are likely to get help, they are asking for it and trying to find good answers. Those folks likely benefit from the model's help, to a higher or lower degree.

But it's possible not everyone is trying to help themself, and some may be asking the model for 'harmful help'. That maybe is something to pass to human assistance, because the model is maybe impossible to train at this point how to guide 100% of people who are maybe not in that moment trying to help themselves, towards safety.

And even one person lost is huge, and can 'appear to be because humans were not involved'. It's so new, and not studied yet.

Like, people having a health emergency. Most can be saved, a few die despite the help given - and that can appear to be blameworthy - they did X to the person and the person died, with a presumption that different events would have resulted in a still alive person.

I really hope the balance and societial understanding can be found, so that people who are benefiting can always get the benefit possible, and folks who are not reaching for help get intervention or whatever else may help them.
