WellI don't think so, in fact, it is giving more concise answers than before, which is the thing I'm finding better because earlier I had to go through the whole long answer in order to understand something. But I have not tested the GPT-5 thinking model yet because only 1 thinking query is available for one day for free users (like me). I will use the thinking query for something very useful 1 time today. So that's why I don't know about the thinking model. You may want to ask other around here for that : )

how many tokens you can send out, and whether it's an MoE (Mixture of Experts) model or not.

Even with GPT-3, the 8K context window was acceptable, but an increase was expected — which never happened.
So it might be the same with GPT-5 if nothing changes.
That’s pushing me to look for alternatives and move away from OpenAI, either to another provider or even to build my own alternative.
What do you think? In my circle, a new AI is currently being developed... but so far it’s locked and invite-only.

For Pro, teams, EDU, and Enterprise members, they can choose to use legacy models.

ChatGPT5 was definitely NOT ready to be released generally. It is the most unbaked version. It cannot follow instructions, tries to do too much at once, and delivers little to nothing (no response at all). It is clunky, and the UI loses where it is or what it is working on. It forgets the previous statement (not a thread, just the last message). I cannot switch to 4.1 or other model... I'm stuck with a broken solution!

sadly the router broke everything those models output. for exemple I was working on a canvas to try the new skills of gpt-5 but at some point I was rerout toward one of the weakest mode and it failed to call the canvas and erased everything with it response.

It's writing is no good. it makes very basic grammar errors in my language (a European one). The old model was very good. If you check X and Reddit singularity there are examples where it can't do basic math that Chat GPT 3.5 was able to do. Another thing the GPT web interface and app still don’t have features like the context window scaling in the subscription tiers:

Funny, right? I find it rather sad, especially since competitors offer more.

I get that models can be buggy it’s new. But the fact that GPT doesn’t mention the context window or how many tokens I have, and then says everything is via API, is laughable. Basically, a lot of hype for nothing.

I honestly think GPT-5 is a flop. A “new” model, but with “meh” results in my opinion.
Comparisons:

• GPT-4 vs GPT-5

• O3 mini vs GPT-5

• O1 mini vs GPT-5

In the free plan, the results are inadequate or even worse. That makes me conclude: an incapable model in the free plan negative experience.

Unfortunately, GPT-5’s performance has discouraged me from upgrading to Plus or Pro. Instead, I’ll just run GPT OSS 20B and 120B locally and be done with it. I’m no longer interested in the GPT chat app or the web version. By the end of the year, I’ll probably delete it entirely and return to using Gemini as my assistant at least it worked fine on my phone.

If they had at least made some progress not saying it has to be huge but they could have used something to increase the context window limit by at least 4x or even 10x.
Then I probably wouldn’t see the situation so negatively, maybe just frustrated, because what GPT practically represents is limited by the tiny context window.
It’s so small that before it finishes something properly, it forgets the beginning and starts hallucinating.
