I am now in a full blown abusive relationship with ChatGPT when using it for code.

Even though I've explicitly told it in my "Custom Instructions" not to add comments unless I ask, and additionally ask it not to add comments in prompts, it refuses acknowledge these instructions.

Most of the time it will also leave out most of the code I need and replace it with // your other code here, which then means I have to spend ages trying to work out where to put the new code.

I'm pretty sure ChatGPT has been programmed to keep comments in to save costs. But it's #### annoying. Like seriously annoying.

Provide responses in short, concise sentences, like these. Keep each sentence as short as possible, and separate complex ideas into multiple sentences.

a really freaky thing about working with chatgpt with coding is that after a while ittle just click in ur brain if youre actually trying to understand the code that is. if ur just copying and pasting it you'll never get anywhere.
for me after about 2months of working on programs with openai in python. I just finally understood what it was saying. It was like suddenly learning a second language.

One thing I really with chatgpt did is not rely on the browser to generate responses. Basically if I have a long conversation with things such as programming with long scripts it takes forever to generate and load. And if I reload the page it just says failed, retry etc. I would love to see where it doesn’t rely on browser such as using the api technology for chat gpt

Haha, I guess I have to continue down the creative path here then. But you have not heard/read any update that restricts this? IT reasons with a restriction of 90 words, and is very close to 90 words every time in diffrent chats and several of my collegueas accopunts as well.

My guess is you're running into a limitation related to how ChatGPT is allowed to summarize content from the Internet vs. how it can enumerate info from its training data.

To test this, you might try asking a similar question for a case that occurred prior to the knowledge cutoff of April 2023.

This is my hunch because they had the Browser tool pulled for awhile because it could be coaxed into reproducing content exactly, sometimes even paywalled content. So I'm guessing they've reconfigured it such that it is less likely to do anything other than summarize.

Tool use, especially browsing has been progressively more limited to the point it's not very usable now. I created my own GPT a while back to use web browsing better than the default version does (https://chat.openai.com/g/g-uw4EdF0zd-internet-assistant) and any queries to this GPT fails or errors out more than half of the time (more like 80% of the time now). The reason for it seems like tool use limitations in the backend.

No flaw at all really! There's no way to bypass the hard context limits, but in the system you describe, it could always at least search through the document for relevant info based on your past chats! Though, you might have better performance with a subject-categorized document as opposed to a raw chat history -- this would make the model's searches through the doc easier and more likely to return the most relevant and comprehensive feedback.

I could notice a stark drop in content and quality. From 280 words on average down to 50 words on average. 1800+ characters down to 500+ characters.

Your rage is reasonable but that has clouded your reasoning. You should know that when ChatGPT first came out OpenAI never expected to have such huge user base and as for the recent launch the user inflow was more than expected.

But to some extent there is a mistake at OpenAI's end they underestimated what's about to come even after experiencing the response that they got at the initial launch. OpenAI should have prepared things in advance and should have planned better. Also, as you mentioned that OpenAI is a startup and startups always need some time to adapt to a lot of scenarios. You should also note the point that scaling is not as easy as you think it is. It take time, resource and finance.

OpenAI is a mature “startup” (tremendous amount of funding, virtually unlimited Azure resources, 8 years old, and at around 8-10 years you can have an IPO), not an early startup that was founded last year.

So it is really inexcusable, if you ask experienced Founders. It doesn’t matter if the whole planet wants to subscribe to your service (hint: it’s nowhere close to that with GPT-4). There are still “countermeasures” you can take as a CEO, business-wise and technology-wise. So really no excuse. Imagine they want to target institutional clients, big businesses.

Even the people currently using GPT-4 are reporting serious problems that also cannot be justified, which make GPT-4 unusable for them after the recent update. An update that OpenAI itself officially admitted that it has no idea why it had happened. It’s really getting ridiculous at this point if you are serious user/customer, and not a hobbyist. Too much frustration.

At some point they have to consider their brand reputation and its potential damage by their incompetent CEO.

For now all we can do is wait and in the meantime just use other AI chatbots like ChatGPT. I'm using both ChatGPT Alpha and claude for my workload. ChatGPT is not the only one. It's funny to see this scenario again. First I saw this with PUBG mobile where people kept complaining and yet still playing the game which shows how much people love the game and the second time is now with ChatGPT and it's users. 🤣

The context limit of GPT-4 is different from the usage cap of GPT-4. The context limit just means how much GPT-4 can keep in context in a single chat before it starts to forget old data to make room for new data. The usage cap is just how often you can use GPT-4 per 3hrs. Currently, it's 40/3hrs, with custom GPTs last reported at 25/3hrs.

So you can try sending as much as you want in each of those 40 uses in 3 hours! Just note that the more you put into the context, the more likely it is that you'll hit the context limit, and it'll start forgetting old data.

Can you disable and force close Adguard temporarily? You may need to do this in Android's "App info" -- let me know if you want a tip for that. Are you looking for an easy solution or one that opens a lot of doors but takes a little fiddling?
LM Studio is amazing for running your own local models and there are cloud hosting options for running the LLMs that consumer GPUs can't run well.
And I don't know if I can suggest commercial cloud model services but there are a few and we could take it to DMs

Its just recently, when I get to try and identify something it just crashes. Or I create homework for myself and see if it can answer it from an image and it just refuses. Filtering and Alignment suck for us users just trying to play with and use the models, that goes for most but not all of the big services and models. There are a few that are essentially unfiltered but they will be crap if you are actually talking about the homework accuracy task.

One instance is my Chinese homework. The HSK3 answers arnt available online and I have no one to check my work so I want to see if chat gpt can do it and it comes at me with this "I'm sorry, but I'm unable to assist with completing tests or exams, which includes providing answers to exam questions. But apart from that specific use case I will say there are lots of large models that are multilanguage and will be pretty good but not as good as GPT-4

You really got to have use for a language to learn it. I live in AU and the second most spoken language is Chinese, it just comes in handy so often. Its really good for gov jobs too as our biggest trading partner is China

I use other models and services for programming research (better than Googling) and creative writing, I have run into models on HuggingFace and elsewhere that are listed as specialized in multilanguage
If I were you I would check to see if any of those run in LS Studio or a cloud hosting service like Runpod or similar, you pay a few dollars but they run vastly better than on whatever GPU you've got

Well next year when uni (College) starts again I plan on making chat bots of all my classes and putting in all the previous years lecture transcripts so I can have AI teachers, hopefully ethics doesnt get in the way of that because some teachers are just really bad at explaining things

ChatGPT only became a thing at the end of my bachelors, it increased my grades significantly as it helped me scaffold work and point out errors by making it pretend to be a marker. Im in a masters of security now and chatgpt is getting on my nerves, since my degree revolves around crime, terror and groups of people it never wants to do anything as its always an ethical concern. Although it saves me soooo much time making my scaffolds and quickly searching through documents for information. Its definitely a game changer

I don't think so personally , its been stated a few times already those "detectors" have terrible accuracy.

Now while we have AI's out while we train new ones. People use AI for all kinds of things and its only going to expand.
My point with this is that the detectors are likely going to get worse as most of the content will have some form of AI generated content added mixed into or maybe completely replaces.

A lot of articles on news sites are already AI generated.
Only a matter of time before sources for homework are AI generated even if you used AI to write your homework or not. That said always good to check sources as AI hallucinates a lot still.

like this is what you get, they show you the chat, and then you can only scroll the side bar, or you can't even scroll or click on anything, and the cursor freezes, or it doesn't show you any of the message history on that Chat?

I have heard that the detectors are worse and I think a lot of experts share your opinion that they are not expected to get any better or to even get outpaced by the quality of the models they are trying to detect.
What @solemn birch was saying was new to me too honestly, it sounds like there might be some simple training to try and get the model to refuse prompts that sound like they are asking for homework help and at the end of the day those are probably going to do more harm than good and we are back to just relying on academic integrity and honesty in students and proctors and such during real exams.

Several articles have been written on the subject (chat-gpt being lazy af). Some specialists believe it mimic the winter depression of it users. Some tricks exist to circumvent this, one, if it a math problem, is to ask chat gpt to take a deep breath. Another, believe it or not, is to ask chat-gpt to behave as if you would tip it. The better his answer, the bigger the tip ( the comparisons was made between a regular prompt, a tip of 10$ and another of 200$). It sure is annoying as hell.

You have no idea how much nonsense this is. Try prompting in a regular way, then prompt with a promise of a 200$ tip. There more chance you will get a better output on the prompt with the tip. This has been documented
