#notifications lasts for less than a second on Always On Display
63 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Goal - To have notifications like whatsapp messages last on the Always On Display (AOD) for longer than 1sec, ideally as long as I haven't touched the phone.
Currently I see a glimpse of a notification at the top of the AOD and then it disappears, if I use the side button to go my lock screen, I can see the notifications from the widget I have setup, but I need this for AOD.
S24 Ultra - Fully updated on latest software
I am not using power saving mode
I have restarted 10x, clear cache, factory reset and fully updated everything again
Setting which should be able to solve my problem is not where it's supposed to be.
Settings -> Notifications -> Lock screen notifications -> find the button 'Show on Always On Display' and turn it on
(search on YouTube - How To Show/Hide Notifications On Always On Display Of Samsung Galaxy A54 5G)
I have also found 2 Samsung articles which include this feature 'Show on Always on Display' which is located in the notification tab
Articles:
(google "ANS10002524" and click on Samsung official website)
(google "mobile-devices/how-do-i-manage-notifications" and click on Samsung official website)
Attached 2 pictures, 1st is locked screen which shows notifications, 2nd is AOD which doesn't show notifications.
Let me know if there's any questions
- not allowed to post links
Dm me the link and I can vet it and put it here
Alright, a few questions.
- Why dont you just keep the AOD as always on? it might take a little bit more battery, but you will notice every notification.
- Why did you follow an A54 tutorial with a S24, is there no equivelants, how long did you look?
- Is it only Whatsapp you'd like this for, or every notification?
@cedar spade
- its set to always on
- i found for different phones as well, but couldnt find s24 one, looked for 3h
- every notification is ideal, whatsapp being the most important
was able to find it for iphones as well, but i dont think its relevant
So I have 3 things I'm gonna research.
- Check Modes & routines to see if its possible through that
- Check my phones settings
- check forums
can you go to your AOD settings page and take a screenshot?
Alright, Thanks.
Set it as "For new notifications"
The page where the toggle is missing from (video has this toggle)
Tested, lights up the AOD when notification pops up at the top for 1 sec
Then disappeares
This is in the video or is this from your phone?
My phone, the one from video will have another toggle setting at the bottom
Which should fix my problem
Can you send a screenshot from the video, I currently can't watch it
This is how my phone looks
I'm on 6.1.1 aswell.
Alright, I figured out a way to do this

I'm gonna record a video on how to do it

Tested, lights up the AOD when notification pops up at the top for 1 sec
Then notification disappeared
notifications currently only stay on the locked screen
would this setting maybe be in developer tools? or good lock app addon
i've tried using an app called "Glimpse Notifications" which made it so it goes from AOD to Lock Screen for about 5 seconds which lets you see the notification received (due to the notification widget on lock screen) but then it goes back to AOD and you cant see the notifications again
I have a feeling something you did changed it
See if there's any apps running in the background
nothing running in background
Settings > Notification > Notification Pop Up style > Edge Lighting style > Advanced, and then increase the duration
seems like that duration only affects edge lighting style, still doesnt keep notifactions on the Always On Display
You last option is to look up "Time to take action" in settings and increase it
increased it, doesnt keep the notifications on AOD. does increase how long the notification stays at the top of the screen for 2min when screen is unlocked, but doesn’t change how long notifications stay at the top when phone is on Always On Display
kinda just need to be able to put a notification widget on the AOD
You're using Edge Lighting feature for that and sadly, Edge Lighting notifications are time limited, they won't last forever
iphone has this, i assume samsung would have the same setting somewhere hidden away
found this notification widget from good lock, but doesnt seem to display anything, always stays 'No Notifications' even though all apps selected, and whatsapp is supported.
any ideas?
@gilded bramble @rapid junco @frigid verge
What exactly is the widget?
i think its just called notification widget in lockstar
I think there’s some conflict going on here
As notifications are already shown down here
removed the conflict, didnt change anything
its called notistar notification widget
adding whatsapp notification widget does work, but only works for whatsapp notifications instead of all

Your last solution is to slow down the animation to 1.0 instead of 0.5 if you have that in Developer Options
but that still wont keep the notifications on the Always On Display, like for example after i wake up in the morning i wont see any notifications on the AOD

Last option is to contact Samsung Support and see if they have something else that you can try.
tried official samsung support already, they dont have samsung phones that they can use next to them and dont seem to be able to open their own articles. so cant really help
Unfortunately thats all we got to try...
Contact Good Lock support team, it's a bug with Good Lock
