There's no way for one mod to exist with another the physics file will always override itself

I think it was just a way to remove the physics fix. If someone tried to apply the physics fix with no proper physics file it temporarily bricks the game. It's an easy enough fix if you understand what the NMM is actually doing but some people can't even find the mods folder so
