⛔ big lack of essential functionality (such as importing objects from other files/projects) or having more than 1 skel per project.

⛔ API documentation quite useless and full of flaws
⛔ ** Zero downwards/upwards compatibility for runtmies (major problem for Unity at least)**

basily yes, if you modify the transparency of an whole object consistently. For more complex modifications you quickly get issues (especially with photoshop, as it has zero PMA support)
I made a tool (#1041207949508497548 message) to convert textures from PMA to straight alpha and vise versa. You can work simply in straight alpha space then. E.g if you make something 50% transparent, it will be 50% transparent (without having to pay attention on HUE/Lightness or causing any artifacts).
Downside is, it only supports 4.1 assets, so most older models can't be loaded. Texture conversion is still possible with a dummy, but the app can't render the models

that explains why you get white artifacts (#1041207949508497548 message), that is exactly the reason I why made a converter.
But yeah, spine can set transperency for objects via shaders, no need to modify the texture unless it's insconsistent

was going to just replace one part with another
but the texture sheets are positioned differently

Not only that but the part I wanted to swap out was still there in the other sheet so I'm guessing it's not even a texture related thing but instead it's some part of the code made to hide it

if the textures are not so different on size (for example if the torso got the same size and color tones on both mods) it's possible with Photoshop or any other good image editor.... but you'll need to remove the white edges after with Paint.NET

paint.net is recommended cause it has some specific brush settings that make it easier to remove the white artifacts
so you'll have to manually erase those on your own

I know, I had to research this a lot, PMA is hardly described anywhere. And I don't think, besides spine pro and my app, there is anywhere image/texture converter out there. Plus, photo editing softwares handle it from bad to zero (photoshop for instance is quite useless with PMA baked textures). But I recall to have read something about workarounds for paintnet, but was maybe something different, can't remember exactly.

well I basically use 3 programs (NAU, UABEA Modded and Asset Studio)
I first grab all the files I need for the skin lets say you have 2 "standing"(Lobby) files, well you'd decrypt it with NAU use either UABEA or Asset Studio to extract the .png, .atlas and .skel(Texture2D and TextAssets) of the desired model.
Then you add .txt at the end of the files .atlas and .skel (you'll have to check that the atlas contains the right number of character_skin e.g. c230_01 that you want to change.)
And then with the decrypted file of your character you want to change their skin you open it in UABEA (when prompted you choose Memory and click on the option that says "info") use the plugings to "Edit Texture(for the Texture2D) and "Import .txt"(for the TextAsset accordingly with atlas or skel in their name) then you save close the 2nd window and then save again with the 1st window of UABEA then drag the file you just saved to UABEA once again to then go File>Compress you save it and compress with LZ4.
After that all you have to do is encrypt it with NAU once again and change the name file for the original file you want to replace on your game.
