this would make the skins match the trailer look

Yeah, systematically removing texture from skins is hard.

When i suggested this feature i kinda expected it to be a skin creator feature
Where it renders the cloths/characted with just the solid colors
By making all the shading the same color

Bare bones (The pack that the trailer is based on) has some very inconsistent details that would be extremely hard to recreate systematically like Bret said, also the image you attached to the post is 4J studios' Plastic texture pack
