Versions feature, how to track who made the change?

The docs mention the following:

Maintain an audit log / history of every change ever made to a document, including monitoring for what user made which change

Has this feature been deprecated? I can't find anything in the UI or the DB that relates to this. If so, any direction on how to easily implement tracking the admin user id who made the change and displaying it on the versions UI?

Hi, were you able to do that? I'm also looking for this and can't find it anywhere in docs

I have author field and data already, but I don't know how to make it visible in Versions page

I do agree those docs are largely incorrect, it’s not available out of the box as far as I’m aware.

You’ll need to add fields to your collection such as createdBy and lastModifiedBy.

Then when a version is saved, the lastModifiedBy field will be updated.

If the field gets updated, it will appear changed in the versions history. If it hasn’t been updated, you can assume it was updated by the same person who was previously there. You will need to untick ‘modified only’ to see that though.

Not the best UX I agree, worth raising with the Payload team to see if they have any ideas or whether they would be willing to improve it.

Audit logs are enterprise feature:

Which explains why this feature isn't provided out of the box. Would be great if somebody made a CustomVersionsView for toggling columns, would work well in tandum with https://github.com/rilrom/payload-bites/tree/main/packages/audit-fields

I also provide https://github.com/rilrom/payload-bites/blob/main/packages/activity-log/README.md which is basically the same as the enterprise plugin.

I do agree though a custom versions view could work nicely with either of these plugins.
