RelateTo display field property

In the documentation of the relationship field, I find the attached image. A nice list with email address of various users. However, when I try to do this, I get a list of document ideas. I couldn't find which property to change in the relateTo field config, nor was I able to find which property I must change in the collection config. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
