Connection timed out

Please help! I'm trying to set up a private server using this guide, but whenever I try logging in, I get this "Connection timed out" error. Can anyone please help me! I followed various advice I found, like deleting HOYO_PASS_ENABLE from registry editor or opening normal genshin then turning on the server and making a new account (like in that screenshot), but none of it has worked so far.

Every single time you connect to official, you will need to delete the registry entry again.

Sure is.

First is that it is for something else, second is that you're doing a manual build instead of following the setup guide, so your setup is already going to be different from normal.

At best that would make you use 4.0 res instead of 5.4, which would mean no content from after 4.0 at all

But would not do anything about the issue you have

"Connection timed out" is a generic issue with an innumerable number of causes and an equal number of fixes. There is no one single solution, you will not find one.

so the setup guide makes it pretty clear that it is for 4.0, yes? And it says to get the Grasscutter aio, which would mean that it is... you guessed it 4.0

because the Grasscutter AIO is for official Grasscutter, which is 4.0.

5.4 AIO is as simple as it gets. It says right there in the name: 5.4.

As for you downloading both, you asked, I answered, you ignored. Here is the screenshot of the message which says it is fully set up and does not need any other downloads.
So if no other downloads are needed for both of them, and you downloaded both of them anyways, then congrats.

Whichever one you downloaded first was downloaded, then completely and entirely overwritten by the second one you downloaded.

i deleted cultivation and grasscutter and tried again

this time i installed cultivation, then i installed 5.4 all in one from cultivation

and i did everything else the guide said

but i'm still getting the same "connection timed out" error

Log into the game with a new username, you don't need to make the account anywhere, then on that new username just keep trying to enter. If you get an error in the cmd during that then provide it.

For 5.4? Yes. Newer versions are always more broken

Interacting with collectibles I imagine should work fine though, for statues or gadgets, it would be more in the air

If you don't mind playing on a public server then you can connect to Yuuki (5.5 though, not 5.4) at ps.yuuki.me with HTTPS checked. Yuuki uses a closed source fork that is updated by them to fix proto issues.
If you want to stick to localhost but want more to work, you'll need to go backwards in versions. 5.0 will be better than 5.4, 4.0 will have more working in general, 3.2 will have everything working (GIO, not GC).

Only play the quests if you're cool with losing the account at some point

It will break.

That will come as a result of them being broken and having issues, which you may not see at the very beginning but will become very apparent as soon as you start progressing

The only exception being GIO, of course.
