You got 4201 because you didn't follow the instructions properly. It has nothing to do with the patch

You're making it more complicated for no reason

Here's what you need to do

If you have Grasscutter running, close it.
Delete your Grasscutter folder.
In Cultivation settings, remove the Grasscutter JAR that is set.
Return ALL settings to default.

Go to the Cultivation downloads menu and download the 5.4 AIO.
Do not change any settings.

Start the server.
Do not change any settings.
Start the game, login and play

Mostly, I would suggest you uncheck launching grasscutter with the game until you actually have it set up correctly.

That is not on by default, and if you leave it on then grasscutter is going to start every single time you click launch, even if it is already running.

Nope, never have.

I assumed you were setting it manually because you cleared your cultivation settings but still had Grasscutter

But you had completely deleted grasscutter, so you just follow the instructions. The instructions never say to set a Grasscutter jar because you don't do that if you're following them.

The data folder is a folder inside the game, it therefore cannot be the root. The root is the first folder where the actual game is.

Grasscutter is not the game. The game is the game.
