There is no 5.1 server.

5.0 is the latest you can play using an unofficial fork of Grasscutter, or by trying the unstable branch of official.

So if you don't know what you're doing, then 4.0 is the simplest.

To be honest, with all the issues the 5.0 has, unless you are connecting to a well managed server, it ain't worth it😅

You can't generate particles, Raiden's Karma doesn't stack, Furina's life drain mechanic ain't working and Arle's a physical dps when you are running localhost.

For any minor version, those updates will basically never happen. See: 3.4, 3.5, 3.6, 4.1-4.6
Those versions are all still extremely broken and will be for the rest of time, since nobody will ever fix anything on them.
Due to the "always update" mentality, unless there's a group working on that specific version (like grasscutter-quests fork, or official grasscutter) then it will be abandoned as soon as a new update is out, thereby staying broken forever. Then you just move on to the next, even more broken, version.

With how current development is, absolutely.

You can play on YuukiPS if you want a more fixed 5.0 experience. It's still GC but with more proto fixes, some of which are public, some of which are done by them. It's still going to be a broken mess, just a more functional broken mess.

The only difference in setup between playing on a local server and a public server is what address you connect to. Of course on a public server you also don't set up Grasscutter, since they're the ones that have set it up and are hosting it instead.

It'll connect you to Yuuki without changing settings, but lacks the built-in mod support that Cultivation has, and of course no downloads for GC in it (except for some really old stuff that probably is dead). It otherwise functions the same as Cultivation

Doesn't seem like the other Cultivation-specific features are something you're using, so won't make a big difference

sure, just use any server software that has updated using 5.1 protos, resources, and patch. If there isn't one then you have to make it yourself, it will take a long time if you're not familiar with extremely tedious trial and error manual fixes but you'll get there if you keep trying

because it's 5.0, a very buggy and broken version.
If you're comparing it to YuukiPS, that is because Yuuki has fixes in resources and protos to fix some issues. Those can be equally fixed in your localhost by making the same kind of fixes to protos/resources as necessary.
