I get error 4214 each time. I wonder if GC still works?

You haven't patched your game correctly or your client version is mismatching with the server's version. Please enable "Automatically Patch RSA" in your Cultivation settings, or downgrade/upgrade your game/Grasscutter

There is no such thing as a location you have to put them. It's just game files. You put them anywhere you want but NOT on any existing game files, since you'll just break them.

If you want to download these, feel free. Just understand that you will NOT be able to play on private servers. There also is absolutely no reason whatsoever to re-download the 4.6 version of the game when you appear to already have the 4.6 version of the game from the official launcher.

You want to play on private, then you follow the setup guide. You want to download anything else, feel free, but you cannot come complain later that it doesn't work.
