I'm clearly new to this private server stuff, I joined one of the public servers here cherrymint.
When I load into the server I can't figure out how to use commands. I assume I'm suppose to use the chat feature (pressing enter) but my game says I need friends before I can chat? Idk what I'm doing here lol please help 🙂

You add a user to chat in the bottom right of the chat where it says to add friends
Then begin chat with the user there, or go to your friends list and add the server account that is already there to chat

Go ahead and relog, sometimes there's a problem where the server account doesn't appear in chat
although it should still have appeared in the friends list

relogging didnt do anything for me but i do have two accounts and i was able to add myself

Hmm I just checked on cherrymint and the server account is definitely there correctly

Not at all, mail is accessible right away and so is the chat
although you do need to be over AR 4 to wish
I've just tested on a brand new account on cherrymint and can confirm it works there as intended

the steps to fix that are in #1025543438604710018
the proxy must be on to be able to play on private
you just have to trust the certificate for cultivation manually (so that you add it to local machine)
I'm pretty sure you're just on official servers right now, so once you've trusted the certificate you need to check the proxy again and then you will need to patch your game (see 4214 at the very top of the list of common issues linked above)
then after that you can change the ip to cherrymint.live and launch and log in
a reminder that private servers don't use real accounts to log in, so you shouldn't be using an email - just a name (preferably unique and not generic) and any password

yeah that sounds right now, once you're past all that you should see messages in your chat from the server
you can claim the mails and send commands to the server then
