Book covers that go hard
There was nothing to look at once they were away from the town, only a long road stretching ahead, bare fields on either side, beneath a lowering gray sky. It was very flat and empty out here on the edge of the fens, and dull winter light leeched all colour from the uninspiring landscape. Occasionally there was a ruined windmill in the distance,...

18 short stories. I've read 4 so far. They are like 10 pages each and quite comfy
Recently finished reading this. So here's a short review.
Urban fantasy about cults in London and heresy magic and museums. Oh and a giant squid!
I was looking for some cult-related fiction that takes place in London, and found the exact thing I was looking for. Bought the hardcover in December, and finally finished it. Enjoyed it greatly. Yes, parts of the book may try your patience a bit. And the metanarrative aspect of the novel might put some people off, as well as the self awareness about the weirdness of it all. But personally I loved it. Maybe I am biased since the lonely derelict parts of London, the museums, the occult, the cults all fall into my subjects of obsession. Or maybe because China is just a fantastic writer.
The ending was bittersweet yet, so satisfying as well. I immediately had the desire to re-read and get lost in the heresypolitan London.
Kraken by China Miéville
481 pages
Genre: Urban fantasy, Weird fiction, Thriller
What's this book about?
The 8 metre long giant squid preserved at the darwin centre of the natural history museum in London, one day suddenly vanishes without any trace. The long tank with formalin and all.
There are cults in London who perform heresy magic and one of them worships the squid.
Someone has stolen the squid and the world is suddenly coming closer to an unknown apocalypse. The cult police is trying to investigate the crime, and Billy Harrow, the curator of the squid is thrown into the world of weird magic and vicious assassins and oracles and angels of memory.
one of the first magazine stories i read as a kid
later built a habit of reading from the সাহিত্য পাতা of ইত্তেফাক and প্রথম আলো
can't find a story i also remember, named something like মেঘকন্যা আর শিকারীর গল্প
my social anxiety is too high to have something like this
i only go to quiet coffee shops and pray no one sits near me
You must start your own cult then.
I recommend all the guys here read this and work through it.
What genres u guys like😔?
Weird fiction, supernatural horror, grimdark fantasy, urban fantasy
also don't mind science fiction horror from time to time

I've read only 50 pages from it. It's bleak and dark. I've seen people describe it as being Dickensian but in Bloodborne or a Lovecraftian world.
if anyone wants to read this with me let me know.
Online copy of the book can be found on archive org
