That's what the community doesn't like
Not after like 40k blocks
thats a weird thing to hate
Yeah
nah no way its 40k
Making 2 versions instead of merging it
Mojang's biggest mistake
Making everyone mad in the community
Bedrock players hating Java and Java hating bedrock players
i say they should rewrite minecraft in rust 💀
But they're slowly merging it
Crazy
nah they arent
Migration remember
they can never fully merge it
Bedrock players use Microsoft accounts to login
both work too differently to be able to merge
xbox account
And Java used to have Mojang accounts
But they forced all of us to switch
Meaning they're planning something
those are to move you to their new policy
Same thing
they are just putting you under their ecosystem so they can sell your soul without getting sued
but i think people deserve it at the end of the day for blindly agreeing to terms and conditions
And bedrock players got Java for free
and now its sold in a bundle
they care more about micro transactions now than selling the game
Maybe the migration part was Microsoft's idea
But this was for sure both of their idea
it was since it could put them in a trouble in the future somehoe
anyways back to original topic
where were we?
Hmmm
Virtual environments
Jvm
But I don't think we have anything else to talk about jvms
so you wanna try switching to linux?
I don't have a reason
Because my PC is unusable
Like trash specs
Even if I install Linux
It's too weak
eh what are the specs
Celeron J1800
8gb ddr3 single channel
There's no 2nd slot 😭
And 8 is max
I got a nice SSD tho
Crucial MX500
its not as bad as mine
mine is dual core T6750 i think, 2gb ram ddr3 and nvidia geforce 310m with a 256 gb hdd
i use my sisters laptop mostly now but mine is usable
anyways what do you mostly do in your pc
Nothing
I haven't touched it in a month
I just casually turn it on
And then it off
you use some other pc or use mobile only?
Allah apnake bhalo rakukh
Phone and iPad
I use android
Dw
I hate apple
hmm taile to pc te somossha nai
The iPad's from school
damn bro got ipad from a school
Everyone does
ok so that means you probably want to browse and do some pdf works right?
Some people get Chromebooks
mainly occasionally use microshit office?
Without Linux enabled 😔
eww
Ikr
Nah I use Google drive
Our whole school is on Google's eco system
nah most games nowadays are hungry for everything
minecraft java is surprisingly playable on my laptop
i said playable and its playable according to me
I would say it's because of the dedication GPU
At least it's something
java also is native on linux
CPU is for chunk loading, chunks load fine
you should try it on your pc out
dual boot or something else?
Hmmm sure
Or
I would just unplug my main windows drive
I have 2 drives
Then Everytime I want to boot into Linux
I'll go into the boot menu
To select the drive
yeha having seperate drive makes dual booting better
no more windows eating your bootloader
It's an HDD but it'll be fine ig
I tried Linux before but it kinda glitched so I gave up
But it was smooth
does it have anything?
which distro?
Mint
And
Ubuntu
Both I tried
It bugged with my monitor
I also tried an OS based on chromeOS
My monitor has a weird resolution
fyde os?
1680x1050
what is ittttt
Yeah
hmmmmmm
And Linux renders in 1200x800
you can change your resolution
The screen is partially cut off
It only showed that resolution and 800x600
No 1680x1050
And my VGA cable is kinda cooked
Maybe a communication error
I attached my PC to a TV now
but it makes it easy
With a proper 1920x1080 resolution
Maybe it'll stop glitching magically
I hope
🙏
What is it?
1366x768
eww its bad though
whats the ratio
Maybe the community or the OS makers didn't bother
My TV has 16:9 forgot about the monitor
or maybe you can try again
Heck I don't even know the model of the monitor
I got it from a cousin of mine
The PC too
Wanna know a funny thing?
My PC is a desktop
its 16:10
With a laptop CPU in it 💀
its not that uncommon
Wdym
It's like that
From factory
Like why would you make a desktop with a soldered laptop CPU?
huhhh
Lenovo un-cooking
I guess
I got another thing to share
When you make an installation USB
It's live right?
waht
yeah
most of the distros have live testing environment
if you have problems you can search for another without having to install it
I see
So arch you have a live environment
Where you launch a
Command
Prompt
Or terminal
And you write some commands to mount the OS on a drive right?
well it has kde plasma on the live environment
you can launch terminal
some other preinstalled software
or install something
then launch it
but it will be installed on the usb
and it will be gone if you reboot or disconnect the usb
so hop in endeavouros.com
It's a live environment within the USB
And you mount some files onto the real drive to install the OS
Whatever you do will stay within the USB
this is what kde plasma looks like by default
Sick
Btw the reason I disconnect my 2nd drive is because I don't want GRUB
Bootloader
you dont mount anything in the real drive unless you wanna install it on
That's what I am saying
i know
but its a different drive
doesnt matter anyway
yeah thats fine
Like it'll be on my SSD instead
it will install grub on the efi partition that will be created on the hdd
along with a normal ext4 filesystem partition
Efi partition is on window right?
Ext4 is Linux?
I'm learning things xD
efi partition is where the bootloader and other files stay in
its the most used on linux
In Windows right?
every os
windows has its own extra partition i think
Yeah it has 3
it loves to eat yo life
2 partitions that I don't know about
makes it harder to live off of an mbr lifestyle
And the main partition with windows Folder and stuff
efi, ntfs and another partition that idk about
windows also has its own boot manager
you can even boot into linux with it
NTFS is a file system
Like fat32
yeah
also vfat
fay16
btrfs
refs
zfs
ext2
and tons of more crazy partitions
I wonder who came up with these names
but windows only allows its own proeperitory refs and ntfs filesystem
its a sick bastard among every other
just like mac os
with a filesystem i forgot the name of
btw you do know android is linux
you can just sideload it
Yeah
so are you downloading the iso or decided to not care?
bye imma sleep and die
also what program will you use to flash
Batocera ig
i dont see anything on the internet
i prefer ventoy
because unlike rufus where your usb drive can no longer be used as a storage
ventoy lets you do it
while allowing you to boot off of iso and img files if you move them to the usb drive
and its a one time installation unless you reformat the usb drive
also after installing
open up the terminal
and do
yay -S pamac
say no to cleanbuild and no to seeing diff
and you will install a software installer
then you can use it
I format it after installing 👍
Yeah ik
damn bro might be an expert trolling me
Oh
I didn't read the whole thing
My bad
Got a habit of replying message to message
I will start with ubuntu as well
As odin project suggests
Just use ventoy
it works inside a container for some reason
gnu is bundled
: )
(there are terminals that dont bundle gnu, available in play store directly)
its a piece of shit since it didnt work in hyprland
i wasted so much time trying to figure out
until i tried plasma wayland
yo how did it go for you?
ok buddy
ok
aaaaaaaa
guys i killed my pendrive
and now my life is dead
i have to live with a 4gb usb 2 pendrive
i need to self explode
I had a Chinese thumb drive which self detonated after running a Batocera flash
The speeds go up and down
real L moment for me
and that how my Arch linux died
and took the usb drive away with it
Rip
i should eat myself
btw how did your journey go?
why
it is how life should go when you no longer have good pendrive
why do you need a flash drive '
so i can hop into my isos whenever i want in whichever laptop i want
Because I'm lazy
so where does your laziness hits
suicide note: “flash drive died”
😭
Idk
wait what did i mean?
YOU SHOULD SWITCH TO LINUX NOW!
bros name is linos
Yeah so?
hyprland works on my shit
ohh whats you spec
one day i will also have a proper rice to show
i tried plasma 5 it lagged so much
intel core 2 duo T6750 with 2gb ddr3 with nvidia geforce 310m with nouveau with 256 gb hdd with 1366x768@60hz display
mine is quite bad
how damm
you on arch
better than windows
yeah
yeah better tha windows
hyprland is rather usable
my shit would take 3 min to just boot
if you add too nuch blur then it can stutter a little
what is it
what
the
i am on zen karnel but even a picom fork lags my pc
Use dwm
its meant to be faster
Zero fat config
windows was unusable thats why i switchedit took 3 min just to boot
windows is there on my drive
and its eating most of my storage
c and compliling scares me
why are you promoting x11?
i want my own shit
There is just nothing like dwm
i thought i wasnt the only wayland shill here
dont like to copy
I am the use whatever that works well person
99% of the waybar configs in the world look the same
i either start from scarch or dont
yeah
wait no he is using arch
Then compile, duh
aur?
Bro dwm is the most zero fat config imagineable
Hyprland can't trim that much fat, it is more like a "I don't care about hardware usage approach"
maybe try hypr
Which is like.. not a big deal, cuz most pc are strong enuf anyways
nvmind
scartch awsome
i am giving hypr a try
lets see how oit goes
@pallid marsh how much blur and animation do you use?
idk much about hypr
also is it true you gotta recompile for every binding change or color change? on dwm
w8 is hypr and hyprland different thing?
nvr heard of it💀
ohh
yeah makes sense since it never got popular as much as hyprland
i just thougt their the same
i dont think anyone eitare gonay dhore ei porjonto unixporn e hypr deki nai
it was overshadowed by hyprland
Sway is smth too
its not that hard L
what was the issue?
sorry to post it here but i thought you guys could give me a straight ans
So i have this problem of bangla text not rendering as seen below properly i tried
noto sans bangali
lohit bangali and free bangla font
but i still face this prob.
How can i fix this?
Couldn't fix that in endeavour
So tried that in mint and it worked
So the issue was, The resolution options were stuck just 1024x768,800x768 etc which made the screen very strechy
Tried the adding new resolution but whenever tried to apply that it showed some error T-T
Tried the same method in mint and it worked
apnader resolution gula mostly abnormal hoy
yes
ki resolution
normal ei to I think
1366x768
amar option ei ashe na ken jani
taile driver issue hoite pare
skill issue
this might be a dumb question but what is usb arch ?
this is the first time the arch wiki has failed me
I think i am missing smth cuz it an arch issue didn`t have it in fedora or debian
and I am too dumb to figure it out KannaSpook
ling chong
Ik but I'm lazy
APNI AR LAZY NA THEKE ENDEAVOUR OS TRY KORBEN
ta na hoile cia aisha apnake dhore nia jabe
not ok buddy
it still has spyware in it
oh crap forgot
michaelcrisp can spy you even without electricity
real
so when are you going to install temple os?
huge L for you man
what help
Either Mint or Zorin
And I want to install it on my SSD
With windows on it
So I have to create a partition or something?
Because I don't want to wipe it
I want to try it out first
Welp I'll just go to YouTube
Get Mint, and partition it first
Empty partition with no letters assigned right?
If you partition it in the linux install part, it may corrupt your windows part
wait lemme boot up my windows partition for this
and too late, I already chose Zorin
and made a bootable drive with it already
the reason was it's more visually pleasing, the environment is nice
Resize your drive so you have some space to set up a partition, letters don't matter.
If youre just going to be trying it out, you can assign like only 40-100gb to the linux partition. Even lower is also possible but you might not get the chance to test out all the apps you want
doesnt matter if it fat, ntfs or whatever
U guys Don't use virtual box?
it sucks?
I don't have a good enough device to run it
yeah that is what I meant by letters
like do I format it with or without the filesystem
doesnt matter but I like to use ntfs
when youre gonna be installing linux, the installer will delete the partition you just made and replace it with a new partition
I see
it'll be formatted to ext4, btrfs or something else. Windows can't do that iirc so we're creating a "guiding partition" for the installer
GPT?
ye
also sometimes when you install linux, it might forget that your windows drive is there so you need to use a simple terminal command to make it check
Only thing I'll probably miss from Windows 10 would be the USB Disconnect and Connect sound 😔
what is it?
os-prober, just write "sudo os-prober" and itll do its thing
U guys are damn talented
Feeling jealous😭
I am just learning
Im an econ major, linux is easy, but just different
I'm gonna begin with ubuntu
With virtual box.
Odin project has guideline about it.
I attempted Mint, Ubuntu but I had a weird display issue so I just gave up
So u Don't use linux for software dev / cyber security?
Linux can be anything
I know
nope, I started because I wanted privacy, but I ended up sticking to it because its less annoying than windows
being able to update without restarting is very nice
Update update update
my monitor is 1650x1080 but Linux rendered it at 1200x800 resolution and screen was partially cut off, before you say I can change the resolution that was the only option 😭
I am switching because of Privacy, Performance and update 👍
from my experience, updating right after installing fixes most issues
Unless its a very new and major release, the iso supplied is not fully up to date
what distro do you use?
Just Debian
Linus torvalds - true giga chad
send some pictures of the install process and ill try my best to help ya out
I see
alr thx
I had to reset my PC
The thing crashed
After I mounted the free space with /
Root
I'm loading the installer again
I have a Hard drive connected to my PC which Windows identifies as Drive 1, I can't find it on Linux not even in the list
are you planning on using that hard drive for linux?
Nope
it should be detected after you've installed
What about now?
And I did what you asked for
click the install zorin alongside
Why isn't the hard drive detected now?
send a pic
Too late I already did clicked install
In the drive list above
I saw my 300GB Windows NTFS partition
And the partion I created 100GB
And other windows crap
I think
But no 500GB hard drive
It'll show after you've installed
Let's see
I don't need the drive to be listed
But my question is why isn't it showing rn?
Just curious
I think its because the installer does not have "full access" to the system, it shows you what it can see atm
Maybe
also, what kind of format is your hdd? If its NTFS then it should be easily detected after installing
Last time I used the hard drive to install Linux and I disconnected it physically
But this time I want to see the performance on SSD
None
It doesn't have any file system
do you have files in it?
Nope
brand new?
I cleaned it and formatted (Not fast) using cmd
Yeh from 2013
Alright, if you want to use it you need to format it to NTFS or something
in linux there is a very good graphical tool called gparted that you can use for this, you'll most likely like it
I see
has it installed?
zorin being zorin or something
rip
I think maybe something bad happened when you tried to install by manually doing the root partition and what not
anyhow try restarting, if linux doesnt show up then see if windows is affected
My PC is very old
And Windows 10 is making it worse
It shipped with windows 8.1
From factory
Windows is fine
Just booted into it
Thats good to hear, you can still can get stuff done if needed
you dont have to
alright ill help you out with the sda sdb stuff when the time comes
the installer should automatically detect which one is sda, sdb and what not. More zorin being zorin I guess
or I guess ubuntu since zorin is based on ubuntu
We can maybe get into a VC
thats what I meant by streaming
I guess lobby
So which one
im tying in the vc chat
I'll update here
I can't stay in VC
It booted to windows 💀
I went to the Boot menu and selected Ubuntu
Showed up Linux mint
And it's currently booting to Linux mint
SUCESSS
LES GOO
reso still weird?
Yeah
I was gonna do Neofeth and Htop
do that after
Is the update manager and that command the same?
yeah but its a tiny bit faster
it doesnt show windows?
It automatically boots to windows
ah
in grub does it show windows?
In Boot menu it shows GRUB as Ubuntu
And there's a second Ubuntu which I think is directly boot without GRUB
Yeah
It shows windows as "Windows boot manager"
use grub when you can
check the update manager to see if it has fully updated
I'll do that method
Lol I rebooted and didn't go to boot menu this time
It booted to windows
Funny
For some reason windows is smoother than before
😂
Somebody said I can force resolution
The resolution is stuck at
1024x768
The other option is 800x600
4:3 aspect ratio for both of them
My TV is 16:9 1920x1080P
show me a pic
My VGA cable is damaged
Some people said that's the reason it can't communicate properly
And this issue is happening because it's not communicating with the display
Idk
¯_(ツ)_/¯
does it happen with windows?
alright, do sudo apt update and apt upgrade again just to be safe
then open up drivers
if you not get preferred screen resolution in setting menu ,then
in this tutorial you will learn how to add custom screen resolution in linux OS. by using only some commands in terminal.
you can add custom supported screen resolution.
Commands used in the video (watch the video )
1➡️ xrandr
2➡️ cvt 1920 1080 60
3➡️ xrandr --newmode "1920x10...
guess we have to brute force it
this is a better tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pkzrQqT_lFI
In this video I will show you How to set a Custom Screen Resolution in Ubuntu Linux.
Commands used in the video (watch the video as some commands could be different in your case):
xrandr
cvt 1920 1080
sudo xrandr --newmode "1920x1080_60.00" 173.00 1920 2048 2248 2576 1080 1088 1120 -hsync +vsync
sudo xrandr --addmode Virtual1 "1920x1080_60....
Let me see
I had the same problem T-T
So did you mannage to fix the res?
yup
thx to him
and the vid
now I have another Issue
blank space on the right side
I tried by playing around with the TV settings and it seems to be locked 😭
my TV runs on 16:9 aspect ratio, I have a google chromecast HD plugged in because this is not a smart TV
but I think my TV supports 16:10
and that is probably why it has that blank space
Time to Brute force 16:10 ig?
@crude sluice Thx for the help
thx
damn I already know 4 people in this Forum
now what I need is a GPU, a GT 730 would be perfect for my usage and this PC
the CPU is old so it can't handle more powerful GPU than that
still has like 8% bottleneck
Mine is also very old
what is it?
integrated GPU?
yeah
Oow
That's your reaction?
what should it be?
oof, what happened?
Tried to boot from the Live again
what errors you faced 💀
my zorin installations and uses were smooth
except that resolution prob
I installed Mint
Oh
Zorin was acting up
Im currently running mint
It's running good?
💀
I'll install again
yup
My ubuntu installation journey was a disaster
I probably messed up at the profile file
this is my 5th attempt
It said something like the installation failed and we don't know why
💀
guess you accidentally deleted something cruicial
yeah it was scanning the file system
on the boot
it was stuck there
then I tried to boot from the Live USB
then that also failed
X_X
what did you use to make boot usb
yea GPT
All of my linux installation attempts in all of the devices I used went fine, I guess I got extremely lucky
woo
that luck
🤌
If you have had enough of mint and zorin, try mx linux. It was the first distro I stuck with
I used endeavour for a while
But couldn't fix the resolution prob T-T
So Switched to mint
Mint is awesome but he also got some resolution issues
what about Arch?
too complicated for a beginner imho
fedora is good but I don't think it'll do good with low end hardware
alright, this time try mx linux
and boom everything gone
I did that for a while with fedora and everything was fine
alr
wdym?
Did you mean like erasing windows and just installing linux?
I have a SSD with windows 10, and a blank HDD
I was trying to dual boot Windows 10 with Linux and it worked
but I had the boot problem
I suspect it's because of Windows
if youre gonna be using the entire hdd, you wont have to manually do root, /home anymore
MX Linux doesn't look visually appealing 😔
also use balena etcher this time
mx should be lighter than mint, also it should be easy to customize to something you like
I remember using it once and created over 100 Paritions on my USB Drive 🗿
wow...
🗿
I use rufus and never have any problems
But used ventoy once
ventoy is really easy
I'll install Ventoy because flashing USB over and over again is a waste of time
@crude sluice the Bootloader is installed in /boot right?
show me the screen, if youre gonna be installing it into your hdd you dont have to manually set up everything
can you stream again?
I can't show rn tho
not rn
ah
yeah
you need /boot, /root, /home and swap for it to install successfully
EDIT: Added swap
I did
I did Boot first
SDB1
then SD2 is root
then sdb3 is my home
and 8096 for my swap area
it should be good
I made the Root Exactly 40GB this time
how big is your hdd again>
40960
since you'll just be trying linux, 40 for root should be fine
I see
I don't plan on using the hard drive for anything else
what's the typical /Root size for a 500gb drive?
tbh I am not sure
I am using around 100 for root, haven't run into any issues so it should be fine
when you let the installer figure this out for you, unless you have very specific requirements, it should give you a good size for everything
I see
On my desktop, I've set a 500gb for root, boot, and what not, and a 1tb drive just for /home
Even the calculator on Windows is bloated 😭
I remember trying to use the clock app and I couldn't because it couldnt update
WHY DOES A CLOCK APP NEED TO UPDATE?
I JUST NEED TO USE THE TIMER
WORD
It makes creating backups much easier, and if you distro hop alot, you can bring your personal files without any issues
Damn
I see
in a couple of years or so, I'll probably turn this PC into a NAS
or a game server
a small NAS
for personal use
alot of minecraft servers that perform decently still run with ddr3 stuff so your pc would probably be goated
maybe not with mods but it could be a great survival server
or maybe a PC for monitoring CCTV's
it has 2 cores, that's the thing I am concerned about
oh
then it should make for a decently powerful nas or a syncthing server
or a pc for monitoring cctv like you mentioned
yea
lol I found a comment
"A PC is like an Air Conditioner, it becomes useless when you open Windows"
I am installing Zorin again
Make sure to redownload zorin cuz the old one was probably corrupted due to an internet issue
okay Zorin is being Zorin
Bootloader failed to install
I can manually install it tho right?
in SDB1?
yea I did
yeah
I don't need to launch a live enviroment?
if you want to
send me a pic cuz im a lil confusde
SDb1 is my /boot
wait, did the install succeed?
Nope
This is inside the /boot
grub failed again?
the zorin live environment doesnt let you use the terminal cuz they locked the password or something so we can't fix it from here
So what can we do?
alright we'll reinstall but this time we'll dedicate an efi file
- format everything
- create a 550mb efi partition
- create a 1.5gb boot partition
- create a 8gb swap file
- create a root partition of your choice
- create a home partition of your choice
all should be in sdb, leave sda untouched
Yeah
Sda is my Windows
I like Zorin because it's smoother, I don't really care about the ram usage I don't do anything Heavy anyways
and it reminds me of MacOS
I really like the UI of zorin
and the featurev 'jelly mode'
speaking of zorin, I had a thought the other day
Could a netcafe running zorin systems work? Less maintenance cuz not windows and it should be able to do everything most people need
I guess yeah and the filesystem is similar to Android
The files app
@crude sluice this?
oui
I'm done
did it work?
sdb is the name of the drive, the numbers mean the partition
create a partition for the stuff above
So which partion should I install the bootloader
I already did
oh, /boot
yeah
same issue
Since I have Ventoy
can't I load into Mint and install grub from there?
I have a Mint ISO on the USB
it could work
damn, I thought efi partition was the missing piece but I guess zorin was indeed being zorin
alright log into the mint live environment
also look up the root password in the meantime
there was no password lol
I just did
sudo su
and I got root
root@mint:/home/mint#
actually you dont have to do sudo cuz youre already root
alr
show me the output you get
welp plan b
do sudo apt update
Let's see
also specify the grub location to the correct one
Yea
I think I could do the same thing with Zorin but whatever
If it works it works
zorin from what ive read is read only, it wont let you download and use boot-repair
