It's already a very tweaked version of LXQt to resemble Plasma with its Qt Theme and other stuff
Yeah
not bad
it is indeed
KDE's Breeze QT + GTK Theme are perhaps one of the best in terms of compatiblity
while also looking decent
and modern
not bad not bad
I think you can get away with installing the LXQt metapackage and then Installing Plasma Workspace(Installs KWIN... Essentially the foundation of the Plasma Desktop) and Install breeze and systemsettings
You may also need to install the Plasma5 compatiblity packages too to make stuff not look shi in LXQt
then afterwards
Force QT apps to use KDE's theming by this env QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME=kde
and then you download a KDE breeze dark theme for LXQt... will gibe sauce later
and apply it using LXQt settings
Still W as to there isnt that much KDE Leftovers here + 500mb ram usage on idle
if this gets enouh shis then I may make a AUR metapackage with the config files preapplied(dont ask me how)
But this is by far the best LXQt experience I had so far
Well kde takes around a gb of ram, responsiveness is the same whatever I use
Still its great to use on my 11 y/o laptop
Use dwm there πΏ
@buoyant garden hook ma man up with a good dwm config π
Does it have a good dwm configm
?
@trim acorn you can try it
It is the most efficient window manager to ever be written, or atleast that's what most of the dwm users think
I tried DWM. Too much config
At one time
So gave up
- i wanted to make a lightweight normie setup
And I'm generally fan of Floating windows
Tried tiling but eh not to my taste
AwesomeWM was a bit better tho
When i used it
Don't wanna fiddle with my already dying laptop too much
Qtile? π
Supports wayland too
I wanted to move to hyprlans/dwm but sadly my shitbox doesn't support wayland
How does it?
Load hoi na kisu
Didn't try it
No idea
Use korsi onk din
Bro dwm doesn't need wayland
Dwm doesn't support Wayland it's xorg only wm
Yeah afaik
Sway is an Wayland alternative to DWM
IIRC
Bro its the best LXQt experience
I can understand why It might be
Oh
π
Will it bring back my will to live that rust borrow checker borrowed
rial, should I go dwm instead of qtile?
X11?
Are u sure?
Sway run hoi nai
Ah well if swayfx runs gd for me, bored woth qtile tbh
I wanna try wayland :(

No
@blazing vault This is the setup of where is our OpenNullanoid server running at
Nice
w/ 300mbps network
I think I should send some cash to bro so that he can grab a 2700X to run the server on lmao.
Cos its easier to shell out 6000 taka one time than a recurring 6000tk 100mbps fibre line lmao
but idk
its just expensiv here in bd
i mean net
otherwise i'd like to host stuff in my home too
You can get 3x 60mbps
For like 3 k and use openvpn bonding via a server
Stonks
Yea
You need a openwrt router and shit tho
Seems like a hax
Would try to do If I can convince my dad to use the rooftop room as a office
In our 7 storied building
Riyal
180mbps on paper
But like if all the "users" start pulling 60mbps at once, will we get like the full on paper speed
Gimme one 60mbps connection price
Or are we wasting money π€‘
Like 1k
I feel like its a waste
Ooh thats nice
which ISP
Paying 800tk for Dynamic 15mpbs
in our house
Nah thru openvpn bonding
I mean which ISP are we getting this from
Nvm
40mbps is 1k from dot internet
Still good tbh
STATIC NAKI
AITA JANAR DORKAR
NAILE MARA
But I need to know if its static or dynamic
If not static then Its impossible to port forward
For the same money as 100mbpd
I still need to know if its dynamic or static
Its an important variable
I mean you will inherit servers ip
Like listen
Im gonna dox myself to prove a point here
IP doxing dosnt matter
My ip shows I like in ugandah
Lol

That is internal ip
I also have internal ip
Everyone has internal ip
No
My isp is geh
THATS THE THING I WAS SUGGESTING HERE
I use my server to do ssh port forwarding
No I don't think so
Like there wont be inconsistencies
You can mate
This isn't inconveniency
Just search up what is dynamic and static Ip
Ok so...
You need a internal cuz how will the router know it's you
You get a internal ip
Static IP is them reserving a IP JUST FOR YOU and your router
Bro π
No
You need a internal ip
Determine the differences between static and dynamic IP addresses to find out which can benefit you.About IP addresses An Internet Protocol (IP) address is a unique number assigned to every device on
And a different external ip
Its ez to have reserve a IP for your PC and such
In ur router settings
and free
then you port forward
with a diff. ext port
ig
Whatever isp you use, you will still see this
You don't get 1 ip per device
You get 1 ip per router right
That's why router makes up internal ips
What is the difference between a dynamic and static IP address? When a device is assigned a static IP address, the address does not change. Most devices use dynamic IP addresses, which are assigned by the network when they connect and change over time.
Source: Google THEMSELVES
Yesh
I guess we both had a misunderstanding
Yesh
So what I'm asking is that
Do they provide that service with static IP?
Yes, dot does
Like 100mbps?!
In all packages
THAT MAKES MY ISP LOOK LIKE A SCAM LMAO But its still true they are a underdog
But my isp dumb, I can pump out 20mbp/s
I just have to download from diff ip/servers for the same file
Thus I get 20mb/s on torrents(multiple streams)
And basic speed on normal downloads/streams
Too bad
Gotta live in uttara or dhanmondi for that
π
Like that dot net
Dot everywhere tbh
Check coverage
The payment page(amare kuttai kamrainai ahon je ami kinbar jamu just check dei) doesnt mention savar...but it has a lot of cities tho
Nah man
Not yet
Abbu bolse
complications ase
jar karone no
not for now
I used triangle for a while
Use data if it is more speedy
1k for unlimited on gp
(If you go over 200gbs they cap your speed at 256kbps)
Lmao imagine port forwardin in mobile data
Good for downloads and uploads but thats about it
I get 100mbps on gp
Checked my router net usage, it is at 1.5tb per month
Wiat GP Makes routers?
Cant use this , becuz I exceed 200gb by a long shot
i mean you prolly download ||linux isos|| and store them in ur server r8?

Idk man
I don't do much
Maybe Netfliks
Takes up the usage
Don't watch Netfliks either
But other people do
I sometimes download games like 200gb, but like once a year or smth
I should use iperf2 on my pc to waste bandwith
I dislike my isp

π
Should make a python script that parses iperf2 public servers from iperf2 website
And keeps stress testing via iperf2 until forever
β οΈ
Can I make this into a openwrt plugin?

Have it in lowest priority or smth
just ditch them
Never used openwrt tbh
My router supports it tho
Are you renting it out?
Contributed generously by my friend

Please update your xz version on the system to 5.6.1-3 on CachyOS.
There was a backdoor found, which is resolved with this version.
This was added directly from the maintainer of xz and it is not sure, if the maintainer got compromised or if it was intended to.
It does only affect if the package got built from tarballs, with the -3 version we changed to building from git and removed the probably affected check binaries also.
This doesnt seem to be used by arch based distros/building and mainly affects rpm/debian distros. Archlinux does not link sshd against liblzma
Here you can read more:

My audio mixer when launched freezes the system which I then have to power cycle. What gives? It's getting annoying at this point.
Have had this issue before (fixed by launching pavucontrol) but come... do I have to launch terminal every time I have to adjust audio levels?
pavucontrol has a ... launcher
Hang on, let me clarify; launching and running pavucontrol freezes the system actually.

The issue here is the Linux while great really is not user-friendly (but it's getting there) and any newbie who gets into it almost always starts over-complicating things.
Exhibit A: yours truly. I was finagling with some drive mounting issue for the entirety of a year then realized a simple disk utility tweak fixed it. All that wasted time and energy looking for the solution.
Linux still has some ways to go despite the leaps it's made recently.

@blazing vault and @cerulean vine I need help with installing Signal Messenger on my system: https://signal.org/download/#
Instructions are for Debian only.
Linux (Debian-based) Install Instructions
NOTE: These instructions only work for 64-bit Debian-based
Linux distributions such as Ubuntu, Mint etc.
1. Install our official public software signing key:
wget -O- https://updates.signal.org/desktop/apt/keys.asc | gpg --dearmor > signal-desktop-keyring.gpg
cat signal-desktop-keyring.gpg | sudo tee /usr/share/keyrings/signal-desktop-keyring.gpg > /dev/null
2. Add our repository to your list of repositories:
echo 'deb [arch=amd64 signed-by=/usr/share/keyrings/signal-desktop-keyring.gpg] https://updates.signal.org/desktop/apt xenial main' |
sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/signal-xenial.list
3. Update your package database and install Signal:
sudo apt update && sudo apt install signal-desktop
sudo pacman -S signal-desktop
lol, it is arch, it is not that hard here
it is in the official mirror
It's not but I didn't want to fuss about looking for it in the package repository.

I believe it's the most practical for casual use
disagree
Okay, now solve it for printing with printers.

Samsung, but ELI5 for a general guide.
sudo pacman -Syu cups splix
sudo systemctl --enable cups

check if printer was detected
Well everyone has their opinions and tastes and preferences
theres stuff like ubuntu and fedora
pop os
Kay I'll keep using windows me
The worst windows that ever lived.
8.1 or vista
Nah windows ME is the worst
In fact I enjoyed windows 8.1
Not vista tho
7 > Vista
duh
xp and 7 were the only OSs that didn't make me pull my hair out
Granted I was a kid back then, and didnt use em for the stuff I do now
Now ive switched over to debian testing, and its has been great so far
I believe arch would be more practical for daily usage
Oh hell naw
arch updates are disaster
Its all a trap
With debian testing, I get up to date stuff, just not bleeding edge stuff
its also hella stable (so far) and I am lazy so debian is perfect for me
you paste a billion lines into terminal to install a simple package
so is arch, people make stuff up about it not being stable to my exp
π
? what?
synaptic is a thing if you hate the terminal
sometimes packages do break, fixed shortly
like sometimes blender doesnt launch due to some version mismatch, ig on me, cuz i use a custom built one from unofficial repo
flatpak versions are pretty great as well
use fedora smh
i do not, but those lines dont make much sense, atleast when i used debian
like 4 years ago
thats 4 years ago
breaks just the same as arch, blender dont launch
why use it at that point
it isnt any more stable
i only ever broke ubuntu based ones
nothing broke for me, I guess its because im using debian 12 which Ive heard fixed a whole lotta stuff
well i suppose we will have to agree to disagree, until you try arch that is
i saw people change opinions rial fast
π
i tried it all, except gentoo and opensuse
gentoo is fun, I installed it into my pi for fun
have you used amogOS
it wont break as often if what you pasted actually made sense, like i think those commands adds unofficial sources or smth
always broke from updates or dependency issues
just stick to the official stuff from my experience
i came up with a perfect balance
nix os for the servers (immutable, what you write is exactly what you get, no variations, makes it hard to customize, specially when you try to write it all out)
arch for daily driving (large asf official mirrors, has nearly everything, what you dont get here, you get in aur, which is unofficial scripts to prepare a arch instllation package)
ive also been using debian but stable this time for a home server
have it for syncthing, control my 3d printer with kilipper and stuff
steep learning curve tho
debian is just plug and play
so is arch
π
if you count the asswipe that is manjaro
I like the themes and all, but their stuff feels "half-baked"
there has been many instances of niglegence from the manjaro team
Sad
leading to broken systems, they dont properly maintain the mirrors
you can have same theme same looks everywhere
it isnt distro specific
I meant their stock themes and stuff
yea offical themes always lowkey geh
manjaro was actually pretty dope
as someone who hasn't touch arch, what is the aur actually?
And to make it worse, their packages are often broken due to version mismatch
It used to happen a lot, idk now
Arch user script to prepare a arch installation package like .deb
its like the holy server
that sounds neat, are they checked and all?
Yes aur has mods
probably not even a server idk how it worked
But it can't stop people from writing malicious scripts
Anyone can submit a script, mods will go thru it in due time
does using yay always pull from AUR instead of manjaro official repo?
Just like npm packages can be malicious
isnt yay from redhat?
Dnf
nvm i was thinking of yum
Not always
If official has it, it will pull from official
i see i always thought yay would always use aur
Nah if the officials have it, it will pull it from there
Any stable release of any distro + docker for servers
i believe using nix is just easier, you write in config, in 1 place, soo feels more convinient
yk firewall rules, nginx config, etc
For servers most of the time itβll be accessed by multiple devs. Imagine telling every devs to learn nix
π
well they can assign one guy for the job of doing shit about server;s config
docker easy af with traefik proxy
most of the times, you arent touching much of it
ye thats why using a stable debian release is the norm
nix is just
weird for servers
sure, until you learn it, it is wierd
im not saying its bad
it is great for those want to use it
but in production servers
no way anyone is using nix
some companies rially pushed nix a lot, 300k$ salary for nix dev ops
π
i have grown comfortable with nix's familiar config-ing lang
imagine having to configure everytool a different way
nginx, firewall, gitea, mail, custom systemd services
i still dunno how configure nginx without it
lol
yeah nix is really good if you want everything in place
Thats the prob
In real life ull be asked in linux servers to configure nginx by its config π
well i can copy paste the generated nginx config
imaging some told you to recover mysql database
do i have backup
π
do u? π
is there any linux that takes backup like snapshots, like i can go back in time
vps providers offer full fs snapshots
π
you can take snaps with btrfs and zfs too
most of them use proxmox or vmware
i want it in my pc
no virtualization
i mean, its their business what they use, i get my data, me happy
yes btrfs/zfs snapshots
you will have to split data capacity tho... cant have it all
prolly have make another big partition only for backups
if only windows was open-source
bru just use git, damn it
bkup your dotfiles, and have a git server or use github
why lower your storage capacity for wierd aah snapshots
already syncing eveything with git
need to have 100% availability for my cp collection
wtf
the final destination
Indeed
Trash
for the first time in my life
i will say "I use arch btw"
ik this looks ugly ill config it later ;-;
also i have a problem these emojis dont appear for me in linux for sm reason ;-;
neofetch is bloat, get fastfetch
install noto-fonts-emoji
lol
what constitutes as a bloat?
is larger size or slower execution time called bloat
π
yep can't deny. i tried just now.
both biggest bloat. i aggressively use cat /etc/os-release
both, but it depends on the usecase. Sometimes you just can't "avoid" it
also neofetch is no longer being maintained, its time to switch to alternatives
or make your own ver, i've read somewhere its a relatively easy project
im still learning python so when I get decent-ish, maybe ill make my own ver, with blackjack and hookers
hookers?
Fastfetch
Literally fast
nice, but too zoomed in
