I have attempted to install the latest version of ballerina on my ubuntu laptop and I am getting this error (as shown in the screenshot), I even removed the conflicting file in question but this error still persists. (This error also happens when trying to install older versions of ballerina as well)

As a workaround, can you try to use bal dist update command to update the version?
If you have installed Ballerina once, you don't necessarily need to download the installer. (Although your issue is valid). You can use bal dist command to pull a new (or older) version, and to set the version to use locally from a set of available Ballerina distributions.

@dusk sapphire This is a known issue as https://github.com/ballerina-platform/ballerina-distribution/issues/2736. Still working on it. There is a work around for this issue. Use this command in the terminal to install ballerina deb installer sudo dpkg -i --force-overwrite /path/to/deb/file
