#Console porting!

I thought maybe M Vs. L Online would be playable on 3DS, Wii U and Switch, since they all are able to connect to Internet, they have a pretty cool image quality, and the best experience to play any Mario game is on Nintendo consoles. So, I was wondering if the game could be ported to 3DS, Wii U and Switch.

#

I forgot to mention, the 3DS, Wii U and Switch all support Unity, so I'd be easy

This has been suggested and denied many times

crystal carbon

Yea unfortunately it's not easy because of the age of the consoles

meh it's alright you can play through PC

Who's talking Wii and DS?

plain crescent
#

and no, you cannot just make it happen, its a very difficult process that i'd assume ipod wouldn't want to spend time on just for it to not work

plain crescent
#

even though you said 3DS and Wii U, i doubt its ever gonna happen

stuck portal
#

3DS and Wii U are 8th gen, they support the Unity engine

plain crescent
#

i believe there was a wii u update that stopped rom hacking i think?

#

and the 3DS doesn't have those capabilities to support something like this either

stuck portal
plain crescent
#

either way, none of this porting shenanigans is gonna happen

#

and like it was stated earlier, suggested and denied several times

#

so suggesting it again won't do anything

stuck portal
#

Let's just wait ipod's opinion. I mean, 3DS and Wii U both support Online play, there's nothing missing to enjoy a Mario game right? PC is not that neat.

plain crescent
#

ipod stated himself it's impossible to get this running on an actual ds

#

so what makes you think it's gonna happen on literally any other console or handheld????

stuck portal
#

Bro

#

DSi and 3DS is not the same

plain crescent
#

i know that

#

but my point still stands

#

this is impossible to do, and playing on a pc/android is the next best thing presumably

stuck portal
#

I wouldn't agree with that

plain crescent
#

do it yourself

#

prove me wrong

stuck portal
#

As I said, let's wait for ipod's opinion

yea

stuck portal
#

There are still chances yk

plain crescent
#

there is a WIP Wiimote mod that allows you to play the main game with Wiimote functionality

#

i'd suggest you wait for that

peak geode
plain crescent
#

or find something else like a different controller to play

plain crescent
#

but you're NOT gonna ever get this on anything else other than pc and android ports

plain crescent
#

but if you REALLY think it's possible, do it yourself

#

prove everyone wrong and take the time to do it

#

you're not gonna get shit by asking for something that was already answered

peak geode
#

after all this is a suggestions channel and not ideas channel

??

#

whats nintendo's involvement here

plain crescent
torn mortar
#

I thought he meant game you can download without modding the console

peak geode
#

thats a wide skull if i had one

torn mortar
#

besides you can already play it on steam deck so who cares about switch or wii u

plain crescent
#

the OP apparently

crystal carbon
#

Unity has evolved over the years, and the 3ds and Wii U have been left behind

plain crescent
#

MvLO is assumed to be made with a modernized engine, but the other consoles aren't up to date with this kind of engine and wouldn't work at all with them

#

so basically, asking for this kind of shit would never happen

crystal carbon
#

Yea, it's basically on the latest Unity version whereas those consoles support only half-a-decade old Unities

plain crescent
#

||(also off-topic but the only person who gave this a star reaction was the OP so uh dryskull)||

crystal carbon
#

I can only wish software development was as easy as it seemed

crystal carbon
#

Oh btw if we're talking about a Switch port instead, since it's a newer console there are high chances of getting the web version of the game to run, but only after using homebrew to replace the browser for an "unlocked" one

Some features of mvlo are made with the modern unity's features

If you want to make a game portable for multiple generations of consoles, you'd probably be better off coding it in a language that can compile to machine code like C++ (which MvL isn't), so i assume that figuring out how to port MvL for decade old low power proprietary hardware would be a very challenging and tedious task that would take a lot of effort and resources, or alternatively be just downright impossible without drastic measures.

in short, it's better to just not do it to save time resources and effort that would most likely go wasted anyway
