alright first impressions after playing this mod

Honestly if I had to give it a rating, it's honestly a amazing take on what I feel like mvl should be. It's charming really. The only problem ive really had with it is just the lag and the fact I cant combo.

I feel really heavy playing the game, like im im not really jumping, and when I am jumping its super delayed. Alot of the hits are like this as well. And usually from what ive played so far first person to get first star usually wins 90% of the time.

this mod kinda, sucks? maybe too harsh.. but I know it's just not that fun to play. honestly the fact it's on 1.7 is most of the reason.
on the new mmim original maps, the ones I played ranged from just bad to fine. the powerups are eh in execution.. I liked the tanooki suit the most.
honestly what makes it more disappointing for me is the fact almost everything about this mod was hyped up, the maps and powerups apparently being really good, and the quality being really good, only for it to fall short completely.
it was announced in the mvlo server in the announcements channel which I feel wasn't the best move like at all..
(bonus one: the UI looks kinda eh)
it's a shame.. I wanted to like this mod but it just kinda fell incredibly short.
I like the effort put into it but just not the execution. I mean none of this as offense to bumm, a large amount of the reason I don't like it comes from the fact it's on 1.7 which is missing like a lot of what makes mvlo fun unfortunately and just stuff around it.

(also no comment on the music since I was listening to other music while playing, it's probably good from what I heard in the trailer)

i feel kinda bad for saying this, but the mod just felt kinda underwhelming. for 3 years of development, it feels like its kinda late to the whole new items thing? other mods managed to add stuff like the bubble flower, magma flower, lightning flower, plus some others im forgetting

point is, the mod itself isn't bad, but the main gimmick being the extra powerups just feels kinda eh, mainly due to other mods having those before this mod dropped

one positive thing i will say is that the music is nice, i like the miitopia music choice and i do think the mod slightly stands out by using tunes from other sources of nintendo that isn't JUST mario

i just feel bad for saying this is an ok mod because i know a lot of time was sunk into this, and while the effort does show, i feel like it was just really late to the party, especially since it utilizes 1.7 code which is not the best considering 2.0 is (imo) far better to play on

i think that given how i went into this know absolutely nothing about unity or coding, and that this is mainly a passion thing not some sort of rival to vanilla or other mods, my output of things like powerups are less than what say kkt (more experienced) would do. plus its not necessarily "new items" its more of "look at all these ones that people want but cant have, itll be cool if you could play with them".
im glad you like the music though and i can respect your view point

Anyways yeah a part of me wonders if the problem regarding powerups is that you have to get used to them somewhat. usually if that's something you need to do then it shows a bit of a failure in your powerup's design but given it's 1.7 I can excuse that aspect myself cuz you're mostly tryna get used to 1.7 jank more than anything. That being said I do think the powerups are fun to use except for penguin, but even then the only real problem with it is how jank the run button is. Idk how many people are experiencing this but I often find myself dying or being fucked over with shell and penguin because the run button keeps itself held when I release it and to my understanding I need to spam it to get out of running. It also bugs me to a smaller degree when it comes to things like holding shells cuz then I end up standing for longer than I want without throwing or dropping it.
The maps I don't think are all that bad except for some mod ones like stageplay and pipes 2 but a majority of them are enjoyable to play and aren't that bad.
Overall I think the mod is a very fun casual game but it's very not competitive at all, which is why I ended up preferring our 10 player playtests and not like 2 or so. This mod gets a thumbs up for me!
