Here's a song I'm working on I need to mix it better I think but I've listened to it way too many times that I'm not sure I'm a good judge anymore. How does it sound and is it worth it's salt.

this is my kinda jam. is this you rapping? prodigy fan here, so i really dig it! 😎👌 also great vocal processing. nicely crisp and punchy. instrument wise the guitars sound too digital to me tho. but i love the overall arrangement, especially the breakdown at 02:40. the drone gits are killer! 💣 honestly, vibing pretty hard to this right now. will you add a beat to it?

Yeah I did everything here. I need to listen to some prodigy I've heard he's a goat level lyricist. Can you suggest an album?
Trying to get it to this stage was a nightmare if I'm going to be honest lol. I was trying to get the guitar to sound better but I'm basically a beginner when it comes to a lot of this. I was just using presents in archetype Misha Mansoor X plugin with my guitars to try and get a decent sound but I've got little to no real experience using guitar effects so I probably processed them way too much.
This is the beat. I don't want to add any more like drums to it because it's already sonically dense but this is where my problem lies. For some reason I can't get the track to come through without the vocals getting buried or like here if the vocals are good the beat disappears.

i think the synth stab you used in the start shares similar frequencies with the rhythm guitar, you should try seeing in what frequencies the guitar and synth has the biggest peaks,and then, you need to reduce 2 db in the frequency that has the biggest peaks in the guitar.
I also think its kinda reptitive

There are no synth stabs in the song. At the start there's only two rhythm guitars, a lead guitar and an 808 clean bass. Do you mean right start?

Right when its 3:15 to end the song, that might be your 808 clean bass, but to me that sounds like a distorted synth stab

just the vocals can be a bit more clear, i know its rock type but still. u can try slowing the whole song down and hear if it sounds bad.

100% spot on. The beat is straight up my attempt at a metal version of the Chains and Whips beat. I'm trying to improve my production/composition skills so I'm copying~ish as many professional level beats as I can in my own style. It's always been the fastest way to improve at anything as far as I've found. Not to mention it's nearly impossible to get hit with the month/s long beat block because I'm not making it from ground zero.

I think everything could be a bit clearer to be honest. I don't know how Pharrell is able to get a mix so insanely clean I wish I could pick his brain

i dont think there is a good reason to not add drums.
if you mix them well, then they shouldnt cause any trouble... or am i wrong?

That's not entirely true. By bringing more instruments/sounds in I would have to sacrifice some of the space in the mix for them to be heard properly which would also start to crowd the mix and take away from having the vocals stand out as well as I want them too. I'm using Chains and Whips as a reference track to model my approach on this song. If you listen to it the vocals stand out much more then a song with a full metal band ensemble. I may release a version that has drums but that's not the sound I'm going after right now. If it helps then you can think of this as more of a mixing exercise in getting a mix as close to the reference track as possible with my chosen sounds.

It doesn't really have drums as I didn't want a drum kit to take up any space within the frequencies. The only drums it does have is a kick.

i think it would be cool if the guitar could be in stereo, i mean the rhythm guitar (or is it the bass?(well, it might be the bass, i guess)), anyway, it sounds cool, I like the vocal too, keep cooking bro

btw, the clean background guitar does a great job of adding atmosphere

the harmonics sound really good
