You have to have a an interest and passion for music. For me, the act of learning about sound and audio was extremely interesting, so even the simplest of tasks while learning was interesting. Putting effects on a sound? Awesome. Midi files? Awesome. How music was made in the 90s? Very cool.
I raw dogged it and learned it on my own. It felt very natural and I wanted to learn something new everyday. I also wanted to make something everyday, even if it was terrible and like, a few seconds long. Eventually I got to the point where the skulls I was honing was contributing towards larger projects and better quality projects
