idk how to mix so don't say "aH tHiS sUcKs aNd yOu sUcK aT mIxInG" i'm okay if you say "boring, beat drop is disappointing" even though that would hurt a lot. (it doesn't have a beat drop cuz it's orchestral music so...) i made this song because i'm going insane with everything that's happening irl. this is part one: introit. i hope you don't hate it.
#this better not suck (unfinished)

I think a big part of this that makes it sound worse is just that the instrument samples u got are poor
there is no beat drop here, orchestral music does can have beat drops too though
tips on which instrument samples to use?
paid ones would automatically sound better
there are some free options via kontakt though
lemme link the free ones I reccomend
alr i'll try
do you know of kontakt?
let me ask you something
are you looking to make orchestral music
or do you have other inspiration
orchestral usually
my first time
because if you really wanna learn orchestral music I suggest u learn how string sections work like
violins1,violin2,viola,cello,double bass
what do you know about chords
great
but don't overestimate me
I can give u a quick rundown on how to give one note to each instrument in the string sections
ok
lemme send screenshot rq 1 sec
sry i was downloading the plugin
np
so a basic c major chord
so the higher pitches go to the higher stringed instruments
lower to lower
so:
violin 1 to C5
violin 2 to G4
viola to E4
cello to C4
and contrabass/bass to C3
alr
same thing here
c3 is contrabass
G is celli
B is viola
G4 is violin 2
c5 is violins 1
doesn't change anything about harmony
but it explains where you put your stringed instruments at
sound-wise i mean
well soundwise using better orchestral samples it will sound more realistic ofc
and this technique is used in real string orchestration
bruh
im tryna send demonstration audio 😭
bot flagged 🥀
lol it's okay
Hard to give alot of criticism because this is still pretty short but honestly i think a more variety in sound would be better. It feels a little too soft for the genre and maybe some layering with slightly harsher would be cool
orchestral is a very wide way of producing music.
I gotta say this feedback is pretty vague and open to interpertation, maybe next time try giving some more detail??
"layering with something harsher"
I doubt the original poster is gonna know what that harsher thing is gonna be if they are new
Sorry i can restate what i said
Or give more detail
First of all i feel its very lacking in low end. just add maybe another instrument following bass notes in a lower octave nothing crazy but thats what i personally would do.
Second of all everything feels like it has been stuffed through a fruity convolver. I dont know if that was from sound choice or what but it just feels kinda weak and doesnt really bring any power. This espescially hurts the part from 0:16 to 0:20 imo, it all feels like its mixing together
Also it feels like most of the instruments are on the same octave in the first part which is fine but with the sounds being very soft it just kinda of mixes together and its hard to tell one melody/instrument from another
I will say the vox/chorus kind of sounds are actually pretty good and i think that should stay. also the notes themselves sound fine i think it is just the sound design.
I dont listen to much orchestral so if some of this is normal in orchestral music then please correct me
Fye
this is cool giving kingdom hearts a little lol
modern day mozart fr, but yeah i mean i cant hate on it, you say its orchestral music and i listen to it and its orchestral music🔥 possibly the pacing could be slower as it leads up to certain parts to make it more impactful
Too much harmonic dissonance would be the right words (in the contrary motion section), and a lack of percussion if it is orchestral. The build/tension is also missing its release. Also not much going on there rhythmically, feels like there's no distinct melody, more like everything's melody and harmony at the same time. Where's the bass?
I don't compose a lot of classical or orchestral so it's based off kinda being in one, don't make all the parts exciting or none them will be, there's a viola/violin 1 part for a reason, (which is generally harder than violin 2 or 3). Another thing to mention is you should probably not be using FL/a DAW to make orchestral/classical/jazz, unless it's a specific type of fusion that calls for it. The pro composition software costs a lot but musecore is free and is better than any DAW for what you're doing. (Pro ones are Dorico/Sibellius, Sibellius is better nowadays, but it is like $300 yearly)
yo i might sample this im ngl
thanks for taking the time to write all this lol
i'll take your advice
well in the orchestra you can use brass and woodwinds to add accents
which will make the part much more unique compared to the rest if the rest only uses like strings/winds
" viola/violin 1 part for a reason, (which is generally harder than violin 2 or 3)."
violin 3?
there is only violin1 and 2(you can get more by using divsi where you divide the orchestra into smaller sections but it might sound weak),violas, celli, contrabass
you can do orchestral perfectly fine in FL but looking into other daws is a good idea
if you want a final product / actual music audio
getting that audio requires exporting it from those sheet softwares back into a daw for mixing and other dynamic adjustments
this isn't that dissonant in my opinion in any of the parts
it's the mix that isn't very clear and the instruments aren't high quality
which panning can fix this probably pretty quick, other then that it just needs to be developed
honestly just change the samples and mix it better, id reccomend using more mix on the choir to not make it feel detached and instead making it feel like an actual choir is singing. this is a good song but these things would make it better
Sounds alright.
the feedback people are giving are so vague 🥶
like don't give feedback if it's gonna cause doubt in a bad way
This sounds incredibly. This pass me the vibe of a Nier game for some reason
Most orchestral composers use daws exclusively for scores (if they dont have access to real session players) because only those are gonna give you the control and accuracy you need to sound professional without real players
