Double posted on accident btw. I flipped a jazz sample into a 90s NYC boombap beat. First time working with accents like this. What do yall think? Are there any flaws?

This is good! The piano is really great melodically, I think the piano is getting slightly drowned out maybe by the kick. The bass is really nice melodically too, too high though, I'd lower it by at least an octave maybe even 2. I think the samples fit in really great, the snare and hi hat sound good too, I'd say maybe try to develop the drums a bit more, play around with some different hihat/snare rhythms in some parts just to add that extra bit of depth/variety to the beat but overall I think considering it was your first time working with those types of accents you did a very good job!

I dont know what you exactly mean by drowned. Ill give it a few more listens and try to hear what you mean!

I think the idea with the slight hihat changes are really great! This is supposed to mimic classic boombap from nyc so snare and kick stay the same most of the time. Maybe small changes to make it sound more human. But i thank you very much for the helpful feedback. Ill implement the hihat feedback into my beat and lool out for what makes the sample drown!

It's quiet compared to the other sounds

Maybe with the piano you could vary the octave it's playing in, or even layer the melody with a higher octave at points

This point sounds good and I wouldve probably put some variation in there already if it wasnt a sample

#

I only came to the idea of layering samples later so this doesnt contain any layered sounds yet

But thank you very much for the feedback!

I will use the idea of the hihats changing up to make the beat more interesting for sure!
