#Mixing Advice.

I was never very good at mixing. I never quite understood it, and after tutoring I still don't quite get it. Here's a clip from a piece I made 2 years ago.

Not sure what genre to put this as, but here's a clip from one of my pieces I made around 2 years ago. Sounds fine to me - maybe the bass is too much at the beginning, and the snare might be a bit too exposed, but generally I'm happy with it.

idk ur mix sounds good. it's all about personal preference at the end of the day and how you want to express your music

Thanks. I've definitely encountered the sentiment about things being objectively a certain way, it somewhat put me off mixing for a bit - but then I realised that really, the purpose of mixing is to make sure your music is listenable, not necessarily sonically perfect. That being said, I definitely want to improve my ability as sometimes I get stuck as to why certain things don't sound right.

yeah true. in my opinion, the best way to learn is to do it over and over again, then your ears and mind will start to pick up on patterns of what works and what doesnt work

obviously learning actually how to do it helps a lot but in the end it all comes down to technique and everyone has a different technique

Even then, if 100hz in the upper frequencies or 1 or 2 db is the difference between it sounding perfect or not, it's probably not something worth bogging down on.

from the destination you can shape your track in the way as you want

My approach to mastering is generally the same.
I cut off the super high ends I cut out everything below 40hz.
I make sure there aren't any pops in the intro and the tail fades to 0.
I apply very small compression (Fab c-2)
Then I put on Maximus and merge low's, and separate high's
Then I slightly increase the band for the highs lows and mids, slightly increase pre-gain on highs.
Put a limiter on and make sure it's the correct volume.

Generally, I do this for mastering and it differs very little per piece of music.

There's problems with it, one of the synths didn't come through properly, but this is where it's at.
