drowsy lake
#

what

#

do you realize how loud this is

cinder ferry
#

i dont actually, maybe the problem is my headset

drowsy lake
#

there's audible clipping

#

might wanna look into that

cinder ferry
#

i thought the limiter already did the job

drowsy lake
#

it sounds like you increased the gain if anything

cinder ferry
#

i actually decreased it

#

😭

drowsy lake
#

you can leave the input gain the same if it will change your mix that much

#

the output gain tho

cinder ferry
#

oh

drowsy lake
#

you sure?

#

its loud

cinder ferry
#

let me check again

drowsy lake
#

im on 20 volume

#

on windows

#

and half discord volume

cinder ferry
#

the gain is defaulted middle i tuned it to the left

#

you mean the "noise gate" gain?

drowsy lake
#

the gain si crazy

#

like its not just loudness

#

its definitely a gain thing

cinder ferry
#

maybe i should tune the gain down more

drowsy lake
#

yeah or EQ

#

turn down the mid

#

in your master

#

overall the composition sounds muddy

#

you'd produce a cleaner sound especially with your piano if you cut the mids

cinder ferry
drowsy lake
#

see that shape?

#

ALL of the sound is in the mid

#

you should distribute your instruments along all the frequency ranges if possible

#

everything is fighting

#

try some panning too

#

the center is too strong right now

cinder ferry
#

i did the pan, i left the piano on the left and choir on the right

#

maybe its too loud

drowsy lake
#

its unnoticeable

#

the choir is slightly on the right

cinder ferry
#

yeah you're right

#

its too slightly

drowsy lake
#

but the piano is dead middle

#

and it moves occasionally

#

which causes a strange effect tbh

cinder ferry
#

the piano pan

#

the guitar is dead middle

drowsy lake
#

your piano seems to have a built in panning system that moves with the scale

#

higher octaves move to right and lower to left

#

so your panning is mostly overwritten

cinder ferry
#

😭

drowsy lake
#

mixing is hard

#

i'd say to focus on the EQ and give each instrument its own position

#

right now everything is all in the middle

#

even if you pan them i cant hear them distinctly

#

which means you either have them sharing the same frequencies or did not pan them enough

#

in this case its both

cinder ferry
drowsy lake
cinder ferry
#

|| i'm broke ahhh cant afford good headset yet ||

#

😔

drowsy lake
#

mine is falling apart

#

its held together with tape

cinder ferry
#

damn

drowsy lake
#

the only reason i havent gotten a new one is because im extremely particular about the sound. i have a new one but it sounds slightly different. (not enough bass)

cinder ferry
#

and the volume of this one kinda problematic, i am now 100 volume on window and also 100 on discord but still not loud enough

drowsy lake
#

oh hell nah

cinder ferry
#

but your feedbacks kinda help me cue the sounds in theory so i might do the next mixing in my imagination better

drowsy lake
#

np

nimble ridge
#

not bad, it's musical but it sounds kinda lifeless, also the phrases are a bit weird like it feels like the music never really resolves

#

1 sec lemme try and point out specific parts

#

0-45(goes into the piano but never really resolves the guitar to anything) 45-1:15(the melody doesn't feel like a continuation of the melody before) 1:15-1:20(what is the reason behind this,I see 0 reason to go up here) speeds up at 1:20 for no reason??
at 1:49 you have some sort of resolving a bit, that's a start, most of the rest is real similar though

#

listen to some music and notice how it resolves or starts at certain points, then try to use it in your own music

cinder ferry
# nimble ridge 0-45(goes into the piano but never really resolves the guitar to anything) 45-1:...

the whole non-resolve thing is the aiming for the "lost" theme in the title, 45-1:15 i agree on this, its actually just entire different chords progression, the point of 1:15 to 1:23 is just ear candy in disguise( thats the whole idea of it ) originally i put this piano at the end of this but kinda reconsider and chose the guitar instead to leave the sense of the character actually no longer have a body and disappear...

nimble ridge
#

i'll give an example in my own music where u can hear resolving
first idea:
from 0-16 and resolves and starts back up at 20sec
20-33 pause then start back up 34-48 sec
second idea 48-->1:04
1:06 = end
so here you have a clear one section, second section and end

nimble ridge
#

music resolving is a part of what makes it have an emotion and gives that feeling of tension and release

#

if there is no release for tension it can start sounding just like noise, with no identity

cinder ferry
#

i may need to look more at this "resolve" tech

#

thanks for very specific feedbacks gonna try harder in future track

nimble ridge
#

if yk bout roman numerals and chords n stuff it becomes much easier

#

cadences are basically just a set of chords that end off certain sections(since each chord has a role each one plays its part)

cinder ferry
#

i just actually learn music for around a month here, i've heard about cadences but literally not understand anything

#

😭

#

roman numerals

nimble ridge
#

id send some examples but this forum thing doesn't allow audio sometimes

cinder ferry
#

yeah imma check on this too cuz i dont know what that is

#

you can dm me

nimble ridge
#

kk

cinder ferry
#

ohh the roman numerals like 251 in jazz?

#

ohhh that's the roman numerals thing?

I wonder how u mixed this one. is it an eq in piano and reverb? lacks low and mid freqs

shrewd python

it would work pretty good in genshin

drowsy lake

when you muffled everything else

it sounded really bad

shrewd python

lolol

first notes are fifths. its like playing C and G

they sound pretty good.

#

the other ones are thirds. minor or major, it doesnt matter

#

they are thirds.

piano noire, cinematic studio piano, analog strings, rickenbacker bass

I use Cinematic studio strings, cinematic studio brass, cinematic studio woodwinds, Damage 2,noire,yaegar,nucleus
and blanket uses the cinematic studio series also

split shuttle
#

someone who master cinematic studio series would be able to teach me how can I use it to its full potential in FL Studio, please? For example, how do I adjust the intensity of the sound (I don't know the exact term), the one that makes a violin sound ultra-realistic with constant variation
I'm currently only managing to use FL Studio's volume automation feature, but it doesn't seem like the best option. I'd also like some more instructions on how to use it

drowsy lake
#

there are more parameters such as expression and dynamic

#

midi CC1 will control the dynamic

#

as for expression, i don’t know which CC it is

#

you can find these if you open Browse Parameter assuming you’re using kontakt

split shuttle
#

but when to use dynamic or expression ?

#

for me it's not very different

#

as volume

nimble ridge
# split shuttle but when to use dynamic or expression ?

as someone who is experienced with sample libraries and composing
(specifically I use css)
dynamic adjustments via cc1
control the dynamic layer, each dynamic layer is recorded at a different dynamic(which gives each layer a different timbre ofc)
cc11 is for expression and basically just controls volume

#

for a violin it most likely also have a vibrato knob

#

dynamics give realism,as people who bow their string
will not always be bowing at the same dynamic(soft, loud,p,mf,f)
and you can do crescendo / decrescendos(where volume AND timbre changes either up or down)
dynamic also can refer to how dense the music is at a point
like maybe 2 instruments only would be like a very low dynamic
while 12-15 is a loud dynamic
in orchestral music you might start at a low dynamic instrument wise
then build up the amount of instruments for a crescendo

split shuttle
#

what/where is cc1 pls ?

nimble ridge
split shuttle
#

sorry but where is it

#

i've never used cc things

#

oh i found it

split shuttle
#

thank you

split shuttle
nimble ridge
#

depends on the library but it should be cc2for css

#

csss also

split shuttle
#

yes im using css

split shuttle
nimble ridge
#

well css allows you to assign the midi CC

#

click the settings icon

#

gives you all the cc

#

click and you can edit the midi cc

interesting idea

#

intro was the strongest section (good movement and instrumentation)

#

latter half became repetitive due to string staccato

#

choir is very nice touch

#

perfectly subtle and definitely contributes to a great texture

frigid turtle
#

Is this gonna be used for a movie or something? The sounds are very good and I like how you mixed them. Also I like how it goes from a more scary part to more happy part in a moment. Sounds pretty good. Hopefully you will use it in a actual movie👍
