#what do you guys think?

so, there's a few things i want to touch up on here
in terms of what i like, i think the vibe that you have here is nice, it feels pretty atmospheric, and very chill. nothing feels out of place harmony wise and, just works. sound selection is not a huge problem at all
i think a problem here that you're suffering from is just simply not having a lot of experience writing music yet. i'm going to be up front here, and say that, this is just simply boring. rhythmically, there's no sort of syncopation or interesting rhythms. everything is hitting on grid, every 1/8 note, or 1/4 note. very on grid, snapped on, blocky. i suppose the word i'm looking for is humanized? the lack of variation makes it feel very robotic and stiff
i tie this into song writing experience because, from my observation, this is just a very common feeling that new producers have with their music. you have all the pieces you need, you just can't quite articulate them in a way that feels musically interesting to listen to. this is also why people might not want to give you feedback, because it's hard to sift through the song when it's uninteresting, and it's also hard to tell someone "hey this sounds boring", without sounding mean. i'm not trying to be mean, i promise
the big takeway you should have from this is is:
-
create some interesting rhythmic variation, with your percussion and melodic instruments
-
add more interesting elements, ie: hi hat rolls, percussive fills or ghost hits, interesting counter / background arps, melodies, or modulation to bring some life into the elements you already have
-
create some variation in your melodic lines. it's the same thing every time. try cutting some notes short to give that staccato like sound, changing some of the notes being used, or adding some interesting timbres / ear candy
add variations
as you get better with music, at least in my experience, you start to get better at utilizing less for more with things like sound design or just song / music writing in general. i'm not 100% sure at what point this happens, but just keep at it for a while and eventually it should happen
your creativity starts to move from just throwing notes down and picking a cool sound to, the micro adjustments you make in them to add "hidden" subtle layers of movement. these subtle layers eventually add up
select better sounds
Wow thank you for these tips and feedback
