#Jazzy Shopping Music
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
haven't listened yet but immediately intrigued glancing at the post header "Jazzy Shopping Music", sounds like my exact kind of genre. I'll check it out shortly
This is one of the first things I've made in FL Studio while trying to learn how things work so I appreciate any feedback or suggestions
sure thing, listening now
nice utilization of FLEX
@desert slate see this track is a great example for you too
the instruments are just using FLEX and FPC I think. and I as mentioned above she also said she started learning recently
I can't help but bop my head to it so I consider it a win
that's always a good sign in music production
lowkey reminds me of Yiik, i like it
I don't know anything about mixing yet
alright here are my thoughts after listening. it's not bad after listening right away for a first project at all. I sensed the groove right away. you definitely picked the right instrumentation and put together a decent vibe. you utilized the blues and and swing rhythm pretty well I feel, and it feels appropriately used.
one thing I noticed is your keyboard instrument has some stuff something I might change. two things about it. firstly, it sounds a bit too loud, could turn it down in the mix, and maybe EQ some of its lows/low mids especially away.
additionally, it sound like you're using minor triad chords. in jazz it's much more common to use 7th chords at the very least, (or at least while you're learning), although once you get more advanced, usually jazz uses even denser 9th chords, or rootless voicings. chords can get quite deep though so don't worry about it, take it one step at a time, and just try out 7th chords for now. also you're playing the same chord over and over, and in a real jazz setting a keyboardist might play the same chord but with a bunch of slightly different voicings, and at slightly different rhythms (the chord players improvise too, not just the soloists).
*tip, in jazz, the instruments that play the chords/harmony is referred to as "the rhythm section"
only things I'd adjust other than the chords is the mixing I guess, but honestly everything else here is pretty decent actually, especially for a first project
pretty decent for a first project honestly, exceeded what I was expecting. liked the idea you came up with here
yeah I wanted to change the chords I just did the one chord as a starting point
I love jazz
have you listened to weather report
awesome! don't be afraid to ask about more tips or questions then I'll be happy to share. I honestly don't see people asking about or interested in learning genres like this that I like too often so I'm always excited to see someone interesting in learning them
looking forward to see how your learning journey goes
I went to university for two years studying opera vocal performance and then re-auditioned for the jazz department but then had to move states because my dad got laid off from his job
oh wow!!! that's super cool, honestly more than I've done. I've just studied music through the web and YouTube on my own for the most part. awesome that you have all that past expirience though
it's been awhile since I really played around with music because I ended up going back to school for nonprofit administartion and now I'm in my master's for public administartion but FL is really helping me re-discover my love for making songs
that's awesome to hear! yeah the learning I find is best when it's self motivated and a "fun hobby"/thing you do as a passion sorta stuff
making silly stuff like this is so much fun
yess
why's it only in one ear
I just recorded so many vocal layers ahhh
pick the "IN 1" option instead
RIP
nono you're fine! don't worry you don't have to rerecord anything
you literally can fix it by doing this
add Fruity Stereo Shape to your vocal track
and adjust it with these settings, the two yellow up like this
the left yellow will already be up
I gotta get ready for dinner rn but I'll look at it later
the middle yellow and red will start out both turned up. turn the red one down to what I have here, and turn the rightmost yellow one all the way up to match the left
or you can just right click an copy the left yellow one, and then right click and paste it on the right yellow one, then just turn the red all the way down to match what I have here
Ty for helping me I'll hyu later if I get confused
you're welcome no problem. and sure thing
The other random vocal layers lol I just had it on loop to brainstorm ideas
you vocals are pretty great I think. well I'm not a vocalist so I at least find it impressive. since I don't sing myself I couldn't accurately rate it but as a musician still, it sounds quite decently in tune
still one ear though, yeah
Before FL I was coming up with these ideas in my Easy Voice Recorder app so I'm having a field day
awesome. you're gonna enjoy FL a lot I think
once you're able to get your keyboard hooked up and working as well you'll be able to access loads of instruments and control them right in FL, that'll be something fun to look forward to as well
okay how do I add fruity stereo shaper to my vocals?
do you know how to add effects to the mixer track? it's an effect
I dont
so see the green line here?
see how there's two? a dividing gap between them. that's the left and right side. your microphone audio when it comes through or is played back should look like what I'm showing here
yeah its just showing on the left
however, in your recording, yours probably looks like this
only one side is green
yup
next click anywhere inside here to get a list of FX
all the effects you can add to your sound
you can either left click, to get the default (boring) sorta list, or you can right click to get the (super cool awesome) list
if you right click you'll also get the ability to type into the search bar too
I dont see that
once you're there, either type in "Stereo Shaper" or find it in the Gain section
hopefully it looks something like this
oh I see it now
the searchbar down here also would work fine too
once you see fruity stereo shaper, you can left click and drag to add it to whatever mixer slot you want
I'm lost
or you can right click, to instantly auto-add
sorry if I'm explaining poorly. okay let me know where you got stuck at
oh okay you have Edison on there. did you add that yourself?
Edison is also an "effect" in some ways, so if you knew how to add that, the process should be similar
yeah that's fine
perfect
although I just realized something
I see you have multiple vocal mixer tracks. it would be recommended to route those to a subgroup, basically a new mixer channel
then you can just add this effect once, and it'll effect everything. this tip is also helpful for other effects too
ohh alright that's good then, perfect
so do do you still need help here?
click on "Presets" (or in my case its bugged and the word doesn't appear idek whyy), then click "LR to LL"
which basically means, the LEFT channel stays the same as what it is now, and the RIGHT channel becomes a copy of what's on the left
okay
its still just showing the left green bar when I play it
even after clicking LR to LL?
make sure you clicked this, or nothing will change
the one my mouse is above here
yeah
can you show the fruity stereo shaper plugin again?
oh wow, that's weird, that should be what you need
I think what happened is you added this to the wrong channel maybe?
can you show your mixer again?
ohh, you have to have the mixer track you're trying to add it too already clicked
well you have a few options other than starting over. you can also route the mixer track (22, where you have the vocals) to (21, where you put stereo shaper)
how do I do that
or you could move the effect over
sorry about this being so confusing. I misjudged how simple this process would be to explain
It doesn't help that I don't know anything
it's alright, that's normal. I likely just didn't explain it effectively. we're not expecting people new in this server that just started using FL to already know their way around afterall
and that's most people here, totally new to the software with little to no expirience
that's a good question actually. that's definitely a useful thing for a begginer to understand
think of the channel rack as the "beggining". where the sounds start. it's the source. think of the mixer as more like "the end". where things from the channel rack eventually end up at
and the playlist just lets you decide when and how your sounds from the channel rack happen
whats the difference between the song and patterns?
I could help you a lot faster with some of these questions and the stereo shaper thing in voice chat if you'd like. it'd be easier if I can show you were my mouse is and exactly what I'm clicking because a lot of that is difficult to convey through screenshots
okay
if you're alright with that I'll join #1076735134843285597
oooooo
