I opened a piano roll and used it, then exited out of it to check out the overall song. I opened the channel rack and tried to go back to the same piano roll but it is just gone. None of the notes I placed are there anymore. Again I am a beginner so I may be missing something.

didnt change anything, but i just remembered that i was using fruitydx10 not harmless. i opened the last autosave i have and there is no fruitydx10 in the channel rack, previous autosave 10 minutes before has it though

i don't know what you're doing on your end so i couldn't tell you exactly where your notes went. notes are stored in patterns in fl studio, the only things i could think of is you may have either accidentally deleted dx10, deleted the notes you had, or deleted the pattern the notes were in
which, if you're new it's understandable if you may have hit a hotkey by accident
