Are you using Focusrite USB ASIO or Focusrite Thunderbolt

light galleon
#

i chose the thunderbolt option but usb asio doesnt work either

#

sorry im kinda new to all of this

You are (most likely) not using thunderbolt. I would stick with USB.
Have you done a restart or unplug/replug since installing the drivers?

#

Is the Focusrite control center app/thing in your system tray?

light galleon
#

i did restart my pc after installing the focusrite app thing

#

oh does it need to be open lol hold on

#

i dont think its picking up my microphone then

Are you still getting the "need 2 inputs" error?

light galleon
#

not with the usb asio option

#

Huzzah, we have the ASIO driver working, now you just have to figure out the interface side.

Starting from zero, bare with me.
Is the mic plugged in? (you'd be suprised..)
If it's a condensor mic, is phantom power/48v enabled?

#

Is the input gain knob set to a reasonable level?

light galleon
#

ive been moving the gain knob so its all the way up curently, and the mic im using came with this MOANO audio thing i bought a while back, i dont know if its 48v but i tried enabling it and it still doesnt pick it up

#

in my focusrite app if i disable 48v, in my analogue 1 it constantly shows 60db but if i tap on the mic it doesnt go up at all

#

To confirm, it's an XLR mic? not a USB mic?

light galleon
#

yeah its xlr, i have it plugged into the back into one of the inputs

lost vector
#

Does the 4i4 have XLR inputs on the back? I thought it was only on the front

left one is what the front looks like, i think the other pic is the front of another model lemme show u the back

#

sorry about the poor image quality i can take another if u need

So this looks like you're using some cursed XLR to 1/4 inch adapter. This isn't ideal here. Input 3/4 don't have power/pre amps.

light galleon
#

nah haha thats just the way the cable looks

lost vector
#

No, that's clearly a 1/4" plug. The other end is XLR by your mouse.

light galleon
#

oh wait what

lost vector
#

You want one of these guys going from your mic to the front of the interface

light galleon
#

crap i dont have one of those

#

i just have one end of those and the other end is a guitar jack and another with an aux

lost vector
#

FWIW, 1/4" to XLR isn't that strange, but it's not the cable you want in this scenario.
(also thats a mono/unbalanced cable you have.)

light galleon
#

do i need to run to guitar center and get one of these?

lost vector
#

Yeah, they should be pretty cheap. You won't be able to record until you have the mic connected/powered properly

light galleon
#

dang alright

lost vector
#

That cable you have is more for a guitar with XLR output

light galleon
#

ahh i see

#

its snowing pretty bad so i might just wait till the morning and get one off amazon

#

thanks a ton for the help lol

Once you have hte cable, it should be pretty plug and play.
If you get stuck, we'll still be here.
