Reason: I want to use drone notes but control their length as not to overlap and create a muddy mess of multiple notes

You can turn the "Rel" Aka release part of the envelope all the way down, this will make it so when the note ends, the sound will stop.

I certainly notice the note building when holding a key down but when I release, the sound echoes on for ages. As if it has mass amounts of reverb... oh wait, maybe that's it?

Did you add any effects to it?

Because if you have no effects on it, It should stop right as the key is released
