Basically I just used a compressor to sidechain the melody and drums to the 808, idk if I like it or not and would love some feedback.

You used just enough to give emphasis to the bass while preserving the rest of the beat. Using too much makes the rest of the beat sound weird (I know from experience), and using too little wouldn't make a difference. It's a job well done, in my opinion.
