#Holes in support columns with Polyterra PLA on Bambu X1C

This print is currently still going. What would cause the holes in the tree supports? I am printing with Polymaker Polyterra PLA and using that profile in Bambu studio. Using 0.2 standard profile with only change being supports turned on and set to Hybrid. In my Preview I had the warning: "Empty layers around bottom are replaced by nearest normal layers". Could that be the cause of the holes in my supports? I did not totally understand the error.

So far the model appears to still be printing fine, I do not see any holes in the model itself just in the supports. I will know more once it finishes printing 4.5 hours from now and can examine the actual model.

The rest of the model seems fine (will know more when it completes). Would an over aggressive flow impact the supports first before the model?

#

Where is Flow in the settings? Is it under speed and you slow it down?

So the supports only having 1 or 2 walls causes this bit it isn’t bad. They normally print just fine and they are so each to break off lol

Remember, pushing any filament to it's limits might cause issues. So I like to dial back the max flow to prevent any problems

OK, thanks. I will give that a try. Is that the only change I need to make? Will everything else compensate for the new volumetric speed limitation?

And just so I understand, basically what is happening is the device is underextruding at certain points where it is moving fast. It might only be showing on the supports because those are meant to be thin/breakable so underextrusion on the walls might show as a hole whereas on the actual model there are thicker walls? Am I understanding that correctly?

Interesting, in the past my supports have looked really clean. Even using the Polyterra PLA I had not had support holes. I did have some other model failures but I think it was due to the model having issues.

Just jumping in to add that I use the generic pla settings for polyterra with no issues. I'd have to look at the profile to see the numbers but I'm about 24 hours in to a 50 hour print using marble polyterra pla, christmas gold (pla pro?) and PLA pro silver and colums and print look amazing.

I also am using the new tree light supports from bambu slicer 1.4.1

Here is the final model. Came out pretty good despite the supports having holes. I could not detect any problems on the model except where the supports attached to the model which usually happens no matter what. 6.5 hours to print. Star Trek DeepSpace9 spaceship.

solid! As long as the print looks good, that's all that matters!

This is my print mentioned on the generic pla setting.
