there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the file naming scheme, and when i paste the folder into the minecraft/entity folder I see a retexture as expected but it doesn't do anything in the minecraft/optifine/random/entity folder. a similarly named miencraft/optifine/random/entity/allay folder has the same naming scheme and works fine. This leads me to believe that the ETF mod has some sort of issue with random end crystals
#end crystals can't be given a random texture

does the resource pack work with optifine?
unless optifine doesnt support end crystals im not 100% sure
if this doesnt get looked at by anyone feel free to ping traben, it can be hard for him to notice all the new issues threads
herooo
no it does not
just checked
sorry for the late reply.
is ETF not a separate mod from optifine?
yeah but its always good to test if it works in optifine cos if it does then its an etf bug
this is def not my area of expertise
@stone raft sorry to bother but do you know whats going on?
idk who to ask. im sure someone will pop in here at some point but im heading to bed. its a stupid hour the morning
👀
Interesting. I double checked and the directory is correct so that's odd
The plot thickens, OptiFine doesn't support random end crystal textures
Perhaps there has to be a custom handling of it? I'm not entirely sure
This is according to an old post by Ewan, searching "end crystal" in the OptiFine Discord, that was the only mention of it I could find at all
the simply crystals resource pack was presumably working at some point which makes this behavior even more strange
I'll take a look at that pack
Does Simply Crystals work on OptiFine currently? You guys speak about it like it does in their server
Or is Simply Crystals what that pack you're showing is
no
correct
this screenshot is simply crystals
I would provide a more minimal example but the resource pack is itself the most minimal example possible. the only thing you could do to make it more minimal is reduce the quantity of textures.
Yeah, it looks like it is entirely archived, so I imagine it stopped working a bit ago
If I had to guess, there were internal changes to end crystals that broke OptiFine and ETF and OptiFine hasn't cared to fix it so fixing it would not be a parity fix on ETF, it would be an enhancement fix
The etf page says that it implements random entity textures with the optifine format and the optifine format clearly states that entities, not all entities except end crystals. So this is definitely a bug.
This bug report isn't about that specific resource pack, but instead the fact that you cannot set random entity textures at all for end crystals.
the etf page doesn't say it's going for parity. it says it's going for the optifine format. the fact that optifine also has that bug is irrelevant, no?
That's what parity is
Feature parity is the priority, extra features are secondary
It sounds like it has been broken in OptiFine for over 8 months
@olive dirge what are your thoughts here?
Can confirm randomization worked on OptiFine 1.12.2 and maybe a bit later, though I haven't tested the latter to see when it broke. Worth noting that using EMF to randomize end crystals with models that only differ in their texture partially functions as a workaround, though one of the two glass cubes oddly refuses to change texture.
One other thing: end crystal beam textures do randomize on OptiFine, but not in ETF. Oddly though, in OptiFine it randomizes based on the properties of the associated dragon, and not the associated crystal. If possible, it would be nice to have a toggleable parity option for this in ETF when a fix is introduced.
huh
interesting
makes sense as the beam is part of the dragon i think not the crystal
Would that mean we're stuck with randomizing based on the dragon's properties or would there be a workaround?
Ah alright, just having it at all in ETF would be nice either way
looks like it may be possible
but will have to be an optional thing
as we will want optifine compat
Oh yeah for sure, that's what I would've expected if it were implemented
While I gotcha here: there are a few other textures I've noticed that haven't been randomizing properly. Should I make one master issue for them or make individual bug reports? Also, do you prefer it be here or on GitHub?
