Dear Theorycrafters, before you toss eggs at me for such as silly question hear me out....
A friend of mine named Shiomi recently asked this question while trying Arknights Endfield for the first time. Naturally the most basic answer is that its the gatcha rarity. 6 star are the hardest to get your first copy of. However, many of you have written wondeful guides that show that even 4-stars like Akekuri or Flourite can be better than picking a six star for the sake of the team composition. Certain five stars like Xaihi, Perlica, Chen, Showshine are required if you want the six star you have to do any damage--without the right 5-star character certain six stars can be useless.
*So then what really is a six star from a theory crafting standpoint? * This is kind of wanted a expert opinion on this basic question, to see if there is a deeper meaning to the rarity system. Or if its just a silly wonky system
