If you character gets 300 base attack an your weapon gives 500 base ATK that means you have a base ATK of 800. If your Leavtain has 500 INT that's roughly a 300% ATK increase. But this is effectively multiplying the base ATK 3x. However if you had 50% ATK on your weapon, it actually buffs the number of the base ATK back 50% so instead of 800 you'd have 1200. An would instead x that number by 3 giving you a much more impactful overall buff if that makes sense?
