so a little background and you can tell me to bugger off afterwards if you want. there's only 3 armor plates. the various armors are just a combination of those three. jpc2 front plate has the first. vestb front plate has the second. 6b43 front plate is the only one with the third. penetration depth matters. think about putting a nail into a board or a tank round through sloped armor. you want to shoot dead on. at a 45 degree angle you're adding square root of 2 or ~41 % more protection. penetration is primarily from caliber. it's a range so you will see tests with some pens and some blocks. you can use the cans in the safe house to test if there is any pen. they coded the material on the cans weird. the armor doesn't collide but bullets do so it's a handy test if you can't tell right off if you're seeing pens. will need a person or simulation to find out about damage reduction. tracer rounds seem to be universally a little worse than standard. i would make them low priority. helmets are a mess. it seems they are using many rectangular pieces to simulate the round helmet and the armor values are low so good luck trying to test those. last thing, if you are testing without a target player, realize the bullet may go through the front plate and not the back plate so be on the look out for that. good luck

TL;DR:

  1. Three armor plates available (Think plates inside chest rigs)
  2. Penetration depth matters; shooting dead-on is optimal, while a 45-degree angle provides around 41% more protection.
  3. Caliber determines penetration; testing involves both penetration tests and shooting blocks.
  4. Use the cans in the safe house to check for penetration, although the material coding may be inconsistent.
  5. Damage reduction requires analysis by a person or simulation.
  6. Tracer rounds are slightly less effective than standard rounds, so prioritize testing other rounds first.
  7. Helmets are complex, simulated using multiple rectangular pieces, and have low armor values, making them challenging to test accurately.
  8. Without a target player, be aware that bullets may penetrate the front plate but not the back plate, so watch out for this possibility.

I still need to clean up a few things IRL, but after I'll warm up my headset... What's the testing methodology SeaBanana?

ripe wedge
#

As visible health changed from set numbers to a bar, it's possible to get a closer estimate but realistically I just want to see effectiveness of calibers against certain armors.

#

I do have a stand I can easily set my controllers on to make sure angle is closely similar (although variability based on target's position).

humble linden
#

If you are not going to finish it today Ill check something that left in the morning

ripe wedge
#

Because there is caliber and ammo damages set on the wiki (although may be outdated, unsure) - but there is no mention of effectiveness of different materials (armors).

there's a video doing exactly what you are talking about doing linked in that section. timelessvr made it

ripe wedge
#

Oh shit so there was some testing on it

#

I'm blind doggossh

fleet cape
#

soooooo, we don't test it ? haha

ripe wedge
#

Uh

#

We can still test helmets

#

That's namely what made me want to do this, because from my solo testing (which is not very great as there are a lot of variables as Aboleth said) it can stop 5.45x3

ivory rose
#

Ok, i'm still up for whichever

ripe wedge

I'll be ready in 10 minutes or so

Sorry I'm unbelievably sleepy now doggossh

https://ghosts-of-tabor.fandom.com/wiki/Armor_Penetration Created a new page with my data and some previous writeups. Maybe have @ivory rose help with the coloring for the big chart. Couldn't get the pictures laid out as well as I would've liked.

Ghosts of Tabor Wiki

Armor penetration is a complicated mechanic. It is more similar to the penetration mechanic in World of Tanks than that in Call of Duty. It is implemented using the Unreal Engine plugin...

Might take a while because I’m busy with stuff away from my computer but I do have a start on it, should I include the different types of ammo like ap and tracer?

Criticism is gladly accepted - but I know that document is pretty shit and I'm not really looking at improving it for the time being as I'm leaving it as is condition

These ones are still WIP and may be iffy though

I just assumed it was caliber based since that is how it is displayed for penetration on the wiki, give me an updated list of the firearms and I can re-fit it to firearms.

hardy jacinth

Cool, you want to keep using that one or should I work on mine more?

ivory rose

you're welcome to copy it and start up another initiative
