I have been trying to get my 50K+ library indexed for the past few days and it seems like it doesn’t index in the background.

Two suggestions:

1: Add an option like with photo backup to keep the phone alive and awake until indexing is complete.
2: index in the background

I have also noticed a general slowness of the app since the update, but I am not sure if that is due to this new feature or something else.

On a IPhone 13 Pro
IOS 17.2.1
Version 0.8.44 of the ente app

Exact same experience on Android with a OnePlus 10 Pro. The app freezes every 15 seconds or so while trying to index MS. When I turn the indexing off, the app works normally again.

@unique steeple indexing in background is a challenge on iOS since Apple does not allow apps to run in the background for more than 30s in one go. While 30s is sufficient to backup and index newer items, 50k items will be handled better on Desktop / using the same "Disable auto lock" toggle within Backup Settings and letting Ente run overnight (the setting will work for ML indexing as well)

So the index is shared with desktop? Ok I’ll go in and see if I can get it going there. Sorry I thought it had to be done device by device
