Soft salary cap in overwatch league means any team that makes 1.6 million or above gets their winnings equally distributed to the rest of the teams. The players aren't unionized, so it may violate an antitrust act.
People in support of a soft salary cap argue that sports team owners dont pay players out of their own bank accounts, and that the income brought in is distributed to players. They believe salary caps make sure the sport can't be dominated by a small number of teams that have nationwide fanbases and lots of star players. Without the cap, it allows a small number of teams to monopolize the sport.
People against a soft salary cap argue that they are never about equity, and it's a lie by owners to trick fans to pocket more money and control the amount they pay players. They believe salary caps are always a way to keep salaries low and enforce a check on owner spending in order for owners to maximize profits for themselves. Without a salary cap, players will be traded at fair market value, and a team wouldnt actually be able to sign top talent because too many top players would eat into profits. Due to contracts and revenue sharing, which is independent of salary caps, there would be more money to go around

im not sure what european leagues are like but in america there are soft salary caps for all sports. Some sports allow to have a few players that are separate from the salary cap

No matter how big the sport is, at least in america, the sports have salary caps because it keeps teams more competitive, specifically about the players they decide to draft. salary caps may be more difficult to manage in a smaller sports organization like OWL

Hot take - Mayhem and Shock are not massively underperforming. The quality of gameplay and competition in NA has just gone up a ton.

A hurricane watch was issued along Florida’s western coastline on Tuesday after Tropical Storm Elsa dumped heavy rains on the Florida Keys. The storm is expected to make landfall in the state on Wednesday morning, according to reports. Elsa, the first hurricane of the 2021 Atlantic season, was downgraded to a tropical storm on Saturday and had maximum sustained winds of 70 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center.
