#lore-discussion
1 messages · Page 633 of 1
It's possible but I wouldn't take it as a fact just from the devs using it in their talks
He's also voiced by Chris Metzen, so that counts for something.
because, again, they used 'he' back in ow1 times too
even though officially it's an 'it'
Not saying you can't call it that or anything, I occasionally slip myself
Just that it's not official
So far, the video I linked is the only official material we have about Bastion in Overwatch 2, so it's canon until something newer supersedes it.
There's no difference in "canon" between OW1 and 2
The canon pronoun for bastion is it
until something newer supersedes it
You can't stop anyone from calling Bastion "he" any time they like in gameplay discussion if they want to.
I have literally said I'm not trying to
And this isn't gameplay discussion
I'm contending with this
They've not "switched" because in dev talks they've referred to Bastion as "he" before ow2 as well, but that didn't change the official pronoun in lore
Does Torb use any specific pronouns in the comic "Binary"?
Torb uses 'it'
the devs have always said "he" when referring to Bastion, despite Bastion officially being "it"
it just doesn't feel natural to refer to a sapient being as "it"
I slip up too sometimes
bastion he/it supremacy
i think what you said about sentience is really interesting there (not in a bad way just in a hmm humans have interesting thought patterns way)
humans also have a long history of using gendered pronouns for inanimate things
calling ships "she" for example
definitely
One of my teachers told me the usage of ships being "she" was because the sailors would yell at the ships, much like they would yell at their wives. Also so they could call the ships some.... colorful words that were only used for women.
Maybe it's true, maybe it's just a rumor or an Old Wive's Tale
i feel like that goes both ways, people would call their ships she like a beautiful woman while being very proud of their ship
isnt bastion cannonically just a normal omnic soldier? like the ones rein destroys several off with 1 swing?
yep
did they explain what made him different from the other soldiers tho, because he almost reverted to factory settings in his animated short
dont think standing outside for so long can re-write your program
something happened to make Bastion's programming different
Torbjorn doesn't know what it is, but it made him curious
watch the bird actually be a genius scientist that did the re-wiring
is the kings row uprising presented in the tracer london calling comic series?
no
is it the orisa book?
oh i see the comic in pins now thanks
it happened 7 years ago from present day
wait wasnt kings row tracers first mission? that means that tracer didnt spend long in overwatch until it disbanded
wonder when are we getting another omnic character
probably this guy
yea, just saw that vid and thats where i got my question from lol
he seems to be a Null Sector leader
judging by the conversation he has with Doomfist
and his purple jaw
Can’t lie, that guy looks intimidating, but I’m curious to know if he’s going to be an NPC or hero
yea with OW2 he might be a story character not a playable character
hope hes playable cuz the game needs another omnic playable character
Well, I mean, if you think of it like that, half the heroes in game will be NPCs in the story
Doomfist, Reaper, Widowmaker, Sombra, Moira, Sigma etc
I’m not sure what roles they’ll play exactly, but I wanna say they play as bosses
Probably. We’re still not sure what roles Moira and Sigma really fill for Talon
I hope not. Playable heroes would make for lame bosses.
Well, unless you play them in the story missions, it wouldn’t make anymore sense for them not to be bosses
That said, Doomfist is the only one I understand as a boss since we saw how he fought Overwatch in his short
idk i kinda hope they are playable and also win some fights
kinda gets boring if the bad guys loose every time
Well, they have great chances at victory. It’s just that either Overwatch’s involvement or Sombra’s actions or unforeseen circumstances causes them to fail
Not all the time. Such as the case in Alive whereas Widow succeeded in assassinating her target
Why does torb have a deadlock skin
I see
i'd rather have new bosses that we havent seen
rather then verse heroes we already have
also keeps it way more open to have playable stories through both sides of it
the problem with having heroes (Doomfist, Reaper, etc.) as bosses is that we'll never get to kill them
we'll win the fight, then they'll get away somehow
not a very satisfying conclusion
i also dont want another situation where its like "the boss when you verse them verses when you play them"
idk i like the archives events where you verse like mini bosses all the time
so it'd be cool if they made like actual full on bosses fights like you get in dark souls and stuff
Well, who knows how this will turn out
I just don’t know about seeing gameplay on the Talon side of things since they seem to keep to teams of 2-3
From what we’ve seen, the story mode is basically played by teams of 4 against bots
Probably at least 1 tank, 2 dps, 1 support
Though, it’s possible it won’t stick to that
Retribution did fine without a tank
It depends. The only tanks we know to be on the team are Winston, Reinhardt, D.Va, and Zarya
So probably not a tank every mission
Still, unless the missions are gonna be 4 Talon characters, I don’t see that happening
No clues what the full plan is for Talon heroes, but I’m sure the devs have something in mind
Tanks are not mandatory
We could see a mission with two supports
For example, the India mission could be Mercy/Zen/Genji/Tracer
Could also replace Mercy with Zarya
I find it funny how junker queen says "oh mako you silly billy, you aren't allowed in here" then opens the gate anyway
Gameplay!= Lore
exact quote too
No it isn't
You know better than to show your face around here, Mako
I know gameplay doesn't equate to lore, just the fact that she says that but lets him in anyway is hilarious to me
Is the same as any other defense map
One side is breaking in, but they're not visibly breaking in
Except Eichenwalde
though its weird when you look at gibraltar since you could argue the defenders are the attackers
That fits a lot of them
The spawns don't make sense of you think about them either
It's best not to
I think gibraltar is the most coherent tho
Kings Row is
Imagine a story mission where you play as Widowmaker reenacting the events of "Alive".
This series is getting hype we're probably close to potential ow2 news even the banner changed
That would be dreadful.
For starters, there's only 1 hero on Widowmaker's side, so its literally single player
For the other, there is no opposition worth fighting
A single-player campaign would be interesting.
Or reenact the Cinematic Trailer (a.k.a. "The Exhibit").
But that would mean actually landing shots and dying.
Thats just 2v2 pvp
No one hits anything or seems to do any damage that isn't to non-living objects.
It's just flashy and visually interesting with really awesome sound design and mixing. https://www.asoundeffect.com/overwatch-trailer-sound/
These stories of duels or 2v2s are not interesting to show in game. They are best saved for shorts.
Another thing I see people suggest is a Jack vs Gabriel thing
You're probably right.
Its the same problems there
The interesting stories for the game to show through gameplay are:
- Team based
- Against a large volume of enemies
But still, a single-player infiltration sort of mission, where you're by yourself and able to handle yourself against faceless enemies would be neat.
This is the wrong game for that.
Well, I think that's an opinion I disagree with. It could work. Or make a separate game with some of the Overwatch characters that lets you do a single-player mission of some sort.
Do you think there's potential for Honor & Glory to be a playable level?
No
Fair enough
That would be just 4 Reinhardts with no healer
Against Bastions
I was just talking about stories, but I suppose I should add a third point
- Needs a healer
And for it to have a healer, it would need to take place in the last 10-15 years.
Oh wait
When did the omnics gain conscience, like how many years before overwatch's 'current time'
The earliest known is Bob
Well, temporally
Aurora was objectively the first
Bob is just the first we saw
And that was when Ashe was a teenager
I was just thinking this might have been discussed but when did Zen gain his?
Likely the same time
Zenyatta's date of birth is 20 years ago, but BOB was BOB for... Minimum 22 years
I forgot the timelining in Deadlock Rebels
So either Zen's age is to be retconned
Or Zen was created post-awakening
Huh... that's pretty interesting
if widow killed her husband,
and her name is widow maker,
her name is widowmaker
because she made hersed a widow hence why she is a widowmaker😟😟😟
Herself among other people yes
they should make a torbjorn cinematic
we'll get Torb cutscenes at least
If Torbjörn’s not gonna join the new Overwatch, Bastion might step in for him
That would at least reference the next generation Overwatch stepping up after the original
Pretty sure that's already confirmed
Bastion was seen with the Overwatch team in the storyboards shown at Blizzconline
with Zarya, which must have been an interesting encounter
we know Reinhardt's reaction to seeing Bastion, but I'm more curious about Zarya's
I’m sure some of them have some less than trusting feelings towards Bastion
Reinhardt, Zarya, D.Va, Tracer, Mercy, possibly Cassidy
True. But they’ve had their share of Bastion encounters from Uprising
And the recent New Blood comic
but they're not of the "shoot first" mindset like Reinhardt or Zarya
True. Those two know more about war with Bastions then anyone though
They spent a better part of their lives facing such enemies
Even though the recent New Blood comic kinda nerfed the threat Bastions pose
I mean seriously. People were in a panic when they heard one Bastion was roaming the forest and yet in New Blood #4, they don’t seem like a threat at all
their threat is relative to how often people see them
in Russia on the warfront, they're old news
in peaceful Sweden where a Bastion hasn't been seen in decades, people panic
True. Realistically, people may have blown their encounters outta proportion or something
Because Bastion never attacked anyone
They just saw something scary and dangerous, told others, and others let their assumptions run wild
think about it
if you were told all your life that bears killed people and would eat you if you encountered one, you'd panic too if you saw one walking down the street
even if the bear was seemingly friendly (not that you'd stick around to find out)
Where is Rein's reaction to Bastion shown?
In one of the behind the scenes
What's the full video called? Is it on YouTube?
there's more context to the scene that we don't see, but that's the basics of it
Does a full video exist?
Group up and go behind the scenes with the Overwatch team at BlizzConline as they dive into the development process and give players a sneak peek at Overwatch 2.
00:00 - Welcome to BlizzConline
02:06 - PVP: New Maps & Role Updates
12:25 - Hero Missions
17:08 - Progression & Talents
19:21 - Enemy Units
24:47 - New Hero Looks
28:46 - Story Devel...
Ngl. Bastion seemed a lot more scared then Rein
it was terrified
I wonder how much Torb has integrated Bastion into society
Given the ptsd issue, it probably dangerous to let Bastion around people
They know of what Bastions are capable of and Bastion could snap at the drop of a hat
No pun intended
Torbjörn probably keeps Bastion in his shop for most of the day for everyone’s safety
yeah
If that’s the case, Bastion probably has limited human interaction aside from Torb
So I wonder how that will play out when going on missions with Overwatch
Do you guys feel like too many heroes are joining OW in-story?
Or rather too easily?
they need a large amount of different heroes to join for the ow2 story to really work at all
zarya joining did seem to go quite easily but i think it made sense in the context
I guess but OW is still a banned organization
Feels like everything is going too smoothly regardless
well they haven't come to blows with the law yet
Do you think ana will join OW
If so how do you think she will react to phara being in OW
No,
and we know how she reacted. She's fine with it and regrets preventing her before
She's the one who sent Cassidy to recruit her (among others)
!!newblood
okay this isn't a thing
Cassidy - New Blood:
#1: https://bit.ly/3wJqcnL
#2: https://bit.ly/3ejXkd0
#3: https://bit.ly/3fbBwB3
#4: https://bit.ly/3B9zLOE
#5: March
oh no it is just slow
Issue #1 for both of those, page 9 for Ana's answer to recall, page 18 for her showing the recruit montage
I really like Morrison's response to OW being revived
Even the guy meant to be the "generic" shooter guy has amazing character
Makes how is being treated all the worse
But at least we're on the cusp of a new era for it
AnyWAY I'm rambling
What was his response again? no care for it?
Was in Valkyrie
up with Winston? You think the same people who brought down Overwatch won’t
take him down, too?”
...
“Let Winston play hero,” Jack said dismissively. “I’ll do what needs to be done.
Reyes, Ogundimu, Maximilien, Vialli, Sombra, O’Deorain, and the rest of them.
They’ll be dealt with.”
is he saying he plans to take them out? the names he listed
Yes
I’m looking forward to more stuff on Overwatch 2 and I at least hope for more hero new look reveals
Given we saw Zarya’s new hairstyle, she’s clearly next to be shown a full new look
Also, everyone needs to have their new looks revealed by May 5th
Or at least most characters do
The need isnt until the skins go on sale
Well, there’s a long ways away from May and there’s a beta more or less, but sadly the beta might not have all heroes available to play yet
Only those that are finished being worked on in things like new look and new abilities
Without a BlizzConline though, there’s no telling if new looks or more will be shown
do you guys think in OW2 that anyone will die canonically say like members of talon or soldier 76?
there's that possibility for it because genji was on the verge of death so the devs could go dark with a part of the story
I don't think any playable characters will die
It's highly doubtful
I could imagine it happening in a really specific circumstance when it is required for the story, like if they make the null sector guy playable and he's the final boss of the campaign or whatever
But that seems unlikely
Only NPCs.
There is a chance Max will die
There is no chance Soldier 76 will
If they do kill a playable character, it will be in a way that makes them still come back to life. Like Snowball in Rise and Shine.
So most likely an omnic that can be repaired and functionally "resurrected"
that is a reasonable thought, it also make sense, i also just thought that soldier could die due to age bc he's yknow.. old but an omnic seems right
He's in his 50s
Sigma, Reinhardt, Ana, Torbjorn, and Reaper are all older than him.
I knew Ana and Gabe were older, not the rest, but yeah, makes sense
Soldier was injected with the superman juice he aint gonna die anytime soon
oh yeah i forgot about that
i guess hes gonna die at like 130
sat in his rocking chair
The Soldier Enhancement Program didn't inject him with anything that strong
He is more comparable to Captain America, not Superman
I just have the feeling that one person out of soldier and reyes are gonna end up killing the other
then having the startling discover that they didn't because they're playable characters and plot armor
exactly same
one of them dies or both of them will
I know at least they'll get very close
the most i can see is characters being imprisoned or something
Probably Winston
They're not going to kill off Reaper or Soldier.
I dont even think we will see them fight in the campaign
Soldier is on the shortlist of heroes I don't expect to show up at all
no chance Soldier of all heroes doesnt show up
nobody is the main character
but just because someone isnt the main focus of the story doesnt mean they wont show up
could very much see legacy missions for flashbacks or smth
soldier, ana, reaper
the trouble with legacy missions is that there needs to be 4 playable heroes
and Ana and Reaper had different abilities in the past
well there are at least 4 playable heroes for the OG overwatch team
at the minimum there are soldier , rein, torb, mercy
even if that is just uprising without the tracer
Mercy wasn't part of the original team
she was still apart of it whilst soldier was still morrison
so was Tracer, Winston and Genji
well yeah, i was just giving examples
unless they have a specific story to tell, it's better to stick with present day stories
so they're not gonna give a present day conflict of soldier going after reaper?
I wanna see their interactions
yea comics would be nice
or a cinematic where these two duke it out
but as the story progresses I'd prefer some actual plot
Maybe not but you can't deny Soldier, Tracer, Winston... have a spotlight of sorts
At least I think so
Tracer and Winston do
Soldier only has a spotlight in relation to his rivalry with Reaper
But as former head of OW and he's investigating the fall of the very organization I think he'll have one in OW2
or a consistent one is what i mean
Oh yeah I was wondering
Soldier and Ana were leader and co-leader of OW initially right?
Are Winston and Tracer like their replacements?
And where would they leave Sojourn? Isn't she a leader too?
oooooh interesting
She looks to have a major role in OW2 too
Soldier has no spotlight in the OW2 campaign
so reaper-soldier-ana, tracer-winston-sojourn, ig?
idk it's not as black and white as im trying to make it
how do we know that though
like in how story missions play out anyhow
and there are hero missions
im moreso confused than anything
Sojourn might have a leadership role once again
He has no reason to appear in the campaign, he has been shown in none of the promotional footage or storyboards, and in all of his current lore appearances he is basically saying that he is against Winston's Overwatch
omg what is that from btw
Hero Missions are like the QP of PvE
making me excited for ow2 again aaaaa
thats an interesting way to look at it
it's from the Behind the Scenes panel shown last year at Blizzconline
he's not against though, is he? He's moreso just ignoring it and doing his own thing
I wouldn't say he's indifferent though
Just has different priorities
Soldier doesn't see the point in bringing back Overwatch while their enemies are still active
maybe
up with Winston? You think the same people who brought down Overwatch won’t
take him down, too?”
...
“Let Winston play hero,” Jack said dismissively. “I’ll do what needs to be done.
Reyes, Ogundimu, Maximilien, Vialli, Sombra, O’Deorain, and the rest of them.
They’ll be dealt with.”```
i will never not love this snippet
i n e e e d OW comics n shit irl so bad
i cant wait to buy em all
they're free on the website
more special owning em tho
Orisa and Cass-Ashe are the only novels yeah?
so far
interesting
Im more inclined to read the Orisa one, I love her character
It's gonna be weird looking at all this canon content without hearing their voices
they're so ingrained in my head
it gives her entire backstory - from when Efi gets nominated for the genius grant, to Efi witnessing Doomfist's attack on the airport, buying the broken OR15, and eventually meeting Lucio during his concert and getting a rematch against Doomfist
my only complaint about The Hero of Numbani is that a lot of the dialogue (particularly for Lucio) is just voice lines from the game
I would have liked a little more originality
If you could have a new full-blown 3-5 minute cinematic about any hero right now (even ones that already have one) who would it be?
Oh...that's disappointing but ah well
Sigma
Ah I shouldve gussed
we know the least about Sigma right now
so much untapped potential
sorry for another question but last one
fav VA performance?
this channel is chill af i love it
performance-wise, Moira is my favourite
I just love her voice
she makes me feel like an idiot and I don't even mind
oh no
ayy same sista
😳
reaper is a solid third place
dumbass voice modulator and I love it
i want a doomfist cinematic
Oh yeah I've really taken a liking to Doom's VA
his "that's better" line after he gets a health pack
omg you know whoever fight shim next is going to die
i love him
he's got real charisma and power
im glad terry didnt va him
despite how much people wanted it
he wouldnt have suited him as well as Sahr Ngaujah
yeah
it wouldnt have been doomfirst
wouldve been terry but...punchy
Doom is so imposing it's amazing
like he really is a leader it's awesome
so Soldier thinks Winston won't make it work?
he thinks they'll just be targets again
winston did rush through the decision
Honestly, fav VA is Sombra
I just enjoy how she either talks down to others
Or acts playful
While being an all around deadly killer and genius hacker
she is amazing
Also love that classic interaction
D.Va: Ooh, I can't stand you hackers. You give those of us with skill a bad name.
Sombra: You know that isn't the kind of hacking I do, right?
Does Omnics actually have souls
do humans?
it depends what you believe a soul is
Echo, Orisa, Bastion, Zenyatta
These guys
They don't have souls
They don't feel real emotion
No real memories
don't they?
what are memories but a record of data
what are emotions but chemical signals
Then again they were programmed to feel emotions
evolution programmed us to feel emotions
how do you know you aren't programmed to feel emotions?
so?
With metal and computers
why can't something built have a soul?
your heart doesn't feel, it pumps blood
I mean creatures such as wolves cats humans they all have brains and heart
a computer thinks just as well as a brain
Yes but us humans we programmed the computer
so humans gave them a soul
How so?
what defines as having a soul?
compassion? empathy?
cause otherwise reaper and so wouldn't technically have a soul

"So I rebuilt you - upgraded your programming, and gave you a heart."
whether omnics have a soul or not is a philosophical question
just like whether humans have a soul or not
there is no tangible evidence of a "soul"
Bro, if you’re going to dig into Omnics and humans having souls you might as well ask if the world is a simulation
Basically, people believe in whatever they want regardless of what others think
Hmmmm
Do robots have souls? Do humans have souls? Is the world real or just a hologram?
They are made of just 0's and 1's
Yea and science says we were made from microscopic organisms while religion says various other things
If Omnics believe they have souls like humans, well congratulations
That way of thinking means they aren’t that different from us
Man if Omnics were real rn I would love them to talk here so we can have a conversation with it
Umm. Technically, there was an AI like an Omnic that existed, but there’s a tragic ending to it
There was an experimental AI plane years ago that became self-aware and it’s first thought was to destroy itself, which it did
This is unrelated to Overwatch though. So…
not exactly
That wasn’t the AI I heard about. I don’t remember where I heard it, but I think it was an episode of The Unexplained with William Shatner
Also, kinda think what humans and Omnics believe in is more or less similar to Animism
Animism (from Latin: anima, 'breath, spirit, life') is the belief that objects, places, and creatures all possess a distinct spiritual essence.
It's partly related to overwatch because Omnics and robots
why does genji only have one dragon whereas hanzo has two
Don't think theres a reason. Afaik Its never explained
Hanzo is the first born?
Yes
I just read the article. At the bottom, they said it was an April Fool's joke. https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2013/01/28/170272582/do-we-treat-our-gadgets-like-they-re-human/
well anyway
So, I guess the point is that the robot didn't actually achieve self-awareness.
toddlers aren't even self aware until they're 2-3 years old
Not seeing where it says prank, but whatever. Really wouldn’t shock me
does that mean they don't have souls before that?
does genji have one nipple
"(Happy April Fool’s Day! In fact, the video was from an experiment to see how long humans would hesitate in this situation.)"
so instead of proving that the computer had a soul, they proved that the participant lacked one
Metaphorically. But all participants eventually did shut off the robot, it was just a matter of how long it took them.
Actually, I think it proved that people will hesitate to harm a life
It would be hard to harm another or even end another life
Even if that life is in the form a machine
life != a soul
everything that has a soul is alive
(assuming souls exist)
but depending on the definition of a soul, everything alive may not have a soul
Robots are not alive in the scientific sense.
well, nutrition/excretion/respiration are kind of questionable when you run on electricity but yes
but it doesn't really matter what's "alive" from a biological standpoint
Omnics are sapient
nutrition and excretion can be explained with cars though
The reckoning draws near. ☠️
Reaper's Code of Violence begins Feb 22. https://t.co/KQoahGbf3w
Reaper Short Story drops this week
w/e about fucking time for some content
if you consider this content, then we just finished getting content
you can't say "about fucking time"
i just want more stuff man
I can tell this short story is gonna be ~spicy~
If your argument for content is skin events, we just had Year of the Tiger
what have they promised?
If your argument for content is lore drops, we just got New Blood #4
This is one of the smaller gaps between new releases
...im getting schooled I apologize
i was aggressive for no reason
New short story -esp reaper- is super cool
That's pretty cool
Sooo
How do you guys feel about Reaper lore-wise?
or ig his role in the story so far
We don't have enough Reaper lore in my opinion and I'm really curious about what the short story will reveal
I hope we learn his reasoning for betraying Overwatch and joining Talon
It should be that
Code of Violence is a great title
It has been a big mystery for years now
At launch we had an explanation, being what people believed in universe
That it was jealousy
I thought he was in an explosion and thought to be dead
Moira saved him (albeit as a wraith) and now he just fights for them
Then we learned that wasn't the case
And we had Retribution, which goes further to show that its against the motivation
So now its an enigma
that answers how he became Reaper
All we know is that he wants revenge
but not why
And we dont know why
My guess based on the title is that it could tie into his morals
Well, yeah
I wonder if OW2 is gonna add any credibvility to Reaper
Like Doomfist is imposing and you know he has power
Widow has killed
Has Reaper killed anyone highs attus yet/
He also killed many Overwatch agents off screen
I need to actually look at the lore before talking out of my butt
Implied the Russian guards
And he won a duel with a mech in Sombra's short
niiice
I always thought Reyes felt Overwatch was the cause of everything that went wrong in his life. So he became a serial killer who targets former Overwatch agents.
But that's post Swiss HQ explosion, I'd like to know what motivated him to betray Overwatch before that. It seems to me he grew increasingly spiteful towards Morrison and his leadership over time, the "death" of Ana only worsening things. But I'd like to know what the final nail in the coffin was.
there had to have been a tipping point
I used to think it could've been Ana's death. But that probably isn't it.
you can see the tension building between them over the three missions we got for Archives
I bet it's something simple like overwatch straight up fires Reyes and he throws a temper tantrum
Uprising:
Storm Rising:
Morrison was struggling to hold Overwatch together amidst controversy (partially caused by Reyes himself) and the UN investigation
that kind of stress definitely strained their friendship
I'm kinda curious, where do you keep all your lore references? Like comic panels and voice lines that you pull up sometimes. Do you have a database or a vault
I use this database for quick links, but a lot of it I have memorized just from how often I talk about it
Aahhh ok
I'm shit at most things, but Overwatch lore is my jam
I mean that first part is also true with Mercy
managed not to go killing people tho
Huh, I guess that's sort of true.
How old are they in Uprising?
If Soldier is early to mid 50s now
Thats something Ielse I love about OW
D.va is the youngest human character and she's 19
everyone else is badass middle age to older
you dont see that often
imo
oh retribution is earlier than uprising?
rough timeline of the last 15 years:
-15: Mercy joins Overwatch
-12: Hanzo almost kills Genji, Genji is saved by Overwatch
-9: Ecopoint Antarctica is hit by a polar storm, Mei's team goes into cryostasis
-8: Retribution/Slipstream incident
-7: Uprising
-6: Storm Rising/Ana goes MIA/Jack and Gabe fight and blow up the HQ
-5: Overwatch disbanded
0: Recall
+1: Zero Hour
for someone who has appeared in a lot of lore, we don't actually know much about Reaper
Is New Blood taking place around the same time as Recall then?
It takes place closer to Zero Hour
Which is a year after
ah
It starts off shortly after Christmas that year
And as of issue #4, is at Zero Hour
ah alr
Why isn't Reunion 1 year earlier
Setting the time for Recall/Alive to March
You already have the times for those set to that month
Reunion happens right before New Blood, New Blood happens during Zero Hour
I dont think Cassidy spent a year tracking them all down
and Echo probably went directly from Arizona to Paris
But that also raises a different problem with Ana
which is?
“Gabriel was here. We have to follow him,” Jack said.
...
“Idealism is for the young, Angela,” she said. “Try not to judge us too harshly.
Once people call you a hero, it’s hard to put the mantle down.” She smiled sadly.
There was nothing left to say. Eventually, she patted my shoulder gently, and then
she was gone, too, swallowed by the darkness.
I had never been good at goodbyes, despite my life being filled with them,
both said and unsaid. The unsaid ones were the most common, and the ones that
haunted me the most. Now that I had a second chance to say goodbye to them, I
couldn’t find the words. I’d said farewell at their graves, and that felt more final than
seeing them leave now. I didn’t think that I would see them again. ```

maybe Jack went ahead, or they didn't leave right away
Is there anything in New Blood that says Jack is there
Yeah there is
It is after Old Soldiers minimum
After Valkyrie, there's a picture of Pharah saving the kid
Yeah already got that. And this sets it to after Valkyrie
The timeline is a mess overall
yeah
things happen slower than they should, or faster
I do my best to make sense of it
if it was up to me I'd clean it up
Yes I know but... 2023
Who said anything about 2023
the Archives missions were chosen to tell a specific story
they're not making any more
So wait, will the new reaper event have a comic/short story?
Yes
short story, specifically
Very cool
Nope. It’s an event and comic coming in 2 days
And if it really is the final to OW1, then I think that means great news for OW2
what’s reaper event
Reaper’s Code of Violence Challenge limited time event this Feb. 22
Can't wait!
Soliders getting old he could join winston at the end and sacrifice himself
That doesn't make sense
Soldier is against Winston's Overwatch
He wouldn't sacrifice himself for it
Yeah, while I do think Soldier and Reaper have a chance at dying
I don't think either would sacrifice themself
its very unlikely that a playable hero will die
they said they can though
i believe someone will at some point in ow2
maybe a bot who can be repaired
doubtful
or heavily injured and presumed dead, like soldier, reaper, genji, ana have all done in the past
Of course they are gonna say that
Its the only way to make viewers think stakes exist
They arent going to kill off any heroes in any permanent capacity
League is another world where they say they can kill heroes off, and did a fake out where they "killed off" Gangplank. They didn't.
The game is an optimistic game about heroes
Where every character is the hero of their own story
The heroes are why the game exists
They're not going to kill one of them off.
People who ask for character death don't understand how permanent the rammifications of that is.
Kill genji. Tired of genji mains throwing in my games
Again
Not gonna happen
If they did kill the character, that wouldnt remove them from the game
It would remove them, permanently from all future lore developments
I fully expect that the only way Blizzard is killing off a hero is if their VA dies.
Which also is a door left open by them saying "we are open to killing off a hero"
If Aysha Selim or Fred Tatasciore die, they will at the very least consider killing off Ana or Soldier, as an example.
He is literally the main villain
Fr. He just feels useless rn
No lore about him atm
We have a lot of lore about him
Yeh doom mains ruin my games. Kill him off
Why did they choose doomfist as the villain
What
Wouldve made more sense if it was widow
No it wouldn't.
Widowmaker isn't one of the leaders of Talon, the main antagonistic organization.
Doomfist is.
So much so that his ambition has allowed to him to take control of the organization overall and direct it over the rest of the leadership
i prefer a turn of events like idk hanzo being the leader of talon or something
Like widows husband dies because of talon. So she should be against them
How can it possibly feel forced or out of place.
Hanzo would be forced and out of place
Because having a role in Talon goes against everything his character stands for
yeah but character twists are like that most of the time
it's usually the person you least expect
That's terrible writing
doom's character just yells "yeah this is the bad guy obviously pft"
Doomfist just seems so random
He literally isnt random.
Brig could join talon
!!shitposting
Shitposting will result in a loss of access.
Ehh
im being fr rn
Idk bout brig
im stating my opinions on doom
That doesn't sound like something she would ever do
exactly
Villain arc
Eh wouldn't matter much to me. I don't really care much about her
tracer being talon seems pretty cool, edgy tracer
Can we please not just spew out random crack ideas that have no base in the lore. Please.
This is a serious discussion channel, not a meme channel to talk about Talon Tracer.
That is a dead link to an article that I'm pretty sure is about some non-canon fan art
Not even a real Blizzard concept
No, she wouldn't be the perfect villain
Just because people don't like playing against a hero doesn't make them a villain,. Gameplay != Lore.
This is all concept
I’m not speaking in facts
This channel is for serious discussion strictly related to the lore of Overwatch. Shitposting will result in a loss of access.
I’m message mod mail and ask for an appropriate channel to discuss fan concepts
me neither, im just discussing the "what ifs" since i dont think itd be best if i talked abt stuff like this in #overwatch
I only trust moderators
You can discuss fan concepts in #overwatch
Thanks. I’ll also ask mod mail
For direction
I wonder if Moira has anything in the lore for the future
She will.
Like what
She is a leader of Talon for starters, so she always has an immediate reason to have a presence.
She will also likely be in the Reaper short story.
Which comes out Tuesday
A leader
There is a council of leaders
Among them are Doomfist, Reaper, Moira, Maximilien, and Sanjay Korpal
Plus others we havent met yet
Doomfist is the one who acts as the leader over them all
Mostly out of his ambition and charisma.
And strength.
We saw in Masquerade that he just straight up killed one of the other members of the council who went against his wishes
So doom is the leader cause he is big and strong
Not just because of his strength
But also because he has ambition and goals.
And he also has the charisma to back it up
His goal is to start a global crisis, because humanity grows stronger in times of crisis. In this case, he is starting a new omnic crisis with Null Sector so that humanity can grow stronger from the war.
Lore wise? Or what do you mean
This is lore discussion 😇
I don’t hate either. But I like Sombra more (when thinking about lore)
I don't hate either but I prefer Mercy
How much do we know about the other MEKA piltos currently?
Their names and their faces, and their mech
Here are the concept art for them https://www.artstation.com/artwork/G81a0Q
thx
that short story is really good
||finally the first real lore appearance of sigma ||
Great to see this scene expanded on
this art is so fuckin top tier
True. Most art in Overwatch is
What event is next? It’s the Archives Event, right?
Yes
Kind of already a skin.
Moira’s Talon uniform
That's her Blackwatch uniform.
No. You’re thinking of her Blackwatch skin
Which might actually be where she redesigned the uniform upon joining Talon
You can clearly see the Blackwatch logo on her shoulder.
Someone showed what Moira’s Talon uniform would look like next to her Blackwatch skin
Why would she use the same uniform for Talon?
Not sure. Why would her uniform look different in Blackwatch?
Honestly, I’m grasping at straws. I don’t have any idea what, if anything, they’ve got planned for Archives
Last years skins were more based on historical cultures rather than the actual era in Overwatch
I'm actually surprised they did that, there's so many outfits shown off in the comics and cinematics that can totally be their own skin, perhaps the concept artists just went ham with a bunch of designs for 'ye olden time' skins.
Anyways; yeah that Reaper story was really good, the thing that comics can't do as well as novels is that you can do so much more internal dialogue, giving us a greater in-depth view of Reaper's character.
True. Also like that we got more character lore on Reaper. And a few others…
It's awesome to see ||Sigma|| get their first introduction outside of their reveal trailer, even though they were more of a background character/plot device.
Also, looking back now, that uniform of Moira’s might be her Talon uniform, but redesigned after Blackwatch
That would explain the BW logo, but the Talon colors
I really hope we get more Moira content. (in game and lore). She's such an interesting character that I'd argue is perhaps a bigger villain than Doomfist. While Doomfist hopes that his goals benefit everyone in the end, Moira just exploits people of their resources and money just so she can fuel her (immoral) research. Like, she's probably the 'truest' evil character out of the Overwatch Universe.
That's not how uniforms work.

Code of Violence is the latest Overwatch short story, diving into the origins of the Reaper!
Read it here:
https://playoverwatch.com/en-us/media/stories/code-of-violence/
It looks like Reaper's motivations for joining Talon are... Mostly the same as Jack's motivations for his own crusade.
They are both trying to fight for revenge in the name of their own form of justice because of corruption in the organizations that were meant to be helping people.
The timelining of this seems odd. Doomfist gave the mission, but he should still be in jail at this point
Yeah, it's really cool dynamic. One becomes a vigilante, and another becomes; as Ana put it: "A homicidal murderer".
But yeah, the timeline of all the events are a little jank..
Looking forward to that event tomorrow. The story hyped me up, but Reaper’s skin looks sick
I knew there was a reason behind the image when the event was first announced
Artists don’t make specific character images for nothing
Yeah, but the mask looked like Reaper’s regular mask
Or what little we saw of it
I was referring to the red emblem under Code of Violence
I had wondered why the image looked like that and then thought it’s a skin for coming event
It doesn't.
Reaper's regular mask doesn't have the round parts
Which we now know are ventilators
That certainly looks cool for Reaper
Not gone lie, it almost makes me wish that was his OW2 new look
That looks so cool! Can't wait for this event
Its tomorrow.
||I certainly like the realism they used in Sombra’s EMP. Sending an arc instead of an all around burst ||
Didnt they say he was still behind bars in the story?
No.
But he should be.
This story reads as though its one of Reaper's first missions for Talon
Yet come Masquerade, he is already sitting on the council of leaders and has done multiple missions alongside Widowmaker.
Likewise, this reads as though he is meeting Sombra for the first time
Yet he breaks Doomfist out of jail after the events of Infiltration
Likewise, Doomfist is arrest before the Swiss HQ incident
This story takes place after it
Yet in this story, Doomfist is giving Reaper a mission brief
It doesn't make sense in the timeline
New accommodations... where is doom even supposed to be there
Man
unrelayted but
I think lore content webcomic short story wise
I am LOVING Junkrat and Hog the most
Maybe Doomfist can give orders from the prison
can u guys do me a huge favor
if I bought this what lore would I be missing out on
Aside from the cinematics obv
where jewvia
i have lore to discuss
so reaper is now a justice man lol??
shoots jack in the back, talks about being fucked over
??
I think Doomfist is in prison, but as he himself pointed out, justice is corrupted
He could easily have people on the inside who help to get his orders out to Talon
Otherwise, Talon probably would’ve fallen apart without his leadership
And yes’m if that were the case, why didn’t they break him out sooner?
Word now im interested
Eh. I just thought maybe it was Doomfist’s plan after being imprisoned to give the world a false sense of security while secretly giving orders from prison
He’d already planted the seed of doubt in Reyes’ head and Overwatch was slowly falling apart and his imprisonment would’ve given the world a false sense of security until he escaped
Basically, all Doomfist really had to do was wait and watch until the time was right
That’s my impression anyway
Doom is so fucking good
I mean not really
He believes it, doesn't mean it's true
What’s the lore about reapers challenge skin? Is it supposed to be like a talon kind of skin?
we dont know the name of the skin yet do we?
cause if we did it would just be called Talon

Could be
Guessing reaper won’t get a skin for archives cause this skin is already for the lore
I think it might actually be Reaper’s Talon skin. Makes sense. He’s the only Talon Hero who’s not gotten a “Talon skin”
what about Moira
That said, it could very be something else like Stealth, but it’s hard to say
And yes, Moira doesn’t have one either, but that’s something I pointed out earlier
I just think that’s her Talon skin, because of the color scheme and the fact she looks like she’s got horns
that scene takes place while she's in Blackwatch
that's just her Blackwatch skin with horns
It’s hard to say that considering Reyes seemed to be surprised being able to turn into smoke at will, but then again, Idk
how is it hard to say that
arent they gonna run out at some point
it's the beginning of him having wraith powers
In the story, it seemed like the first time he turned into smoke. In Moira’s origin, it shows him doing it for the first time
this mission wasnt the first time
Moira had already been treating him long before the Swiss HQ explosion (this story is set a year after that)
the image from Moira's origin is the first time he experienced the smoke
Ok
I’ll say this though, glad to finally get some explanation on part of this
Honestly sadder than I had thought, but can dig it
Its really sad imo
Especially the parts when Gabe was thinking of her
Saying that she wouldn't even recognize him anymore
Really opens your eyes to what kind of person Reaper is
He’s more complex then people thought
Tbh I've always enjoyed Reaper alot
I've always felt like he was complex
Also damn Doom is so good with words
Yup. I always said Doom had to have planted the seed of doubt in Reyes mind to make him turn on his comrades and everything they worked so hard for
Though, I honestly didn’t know Reyes had a deeper backstory then we ever knew
Being a ||cop|| then a soldier and an agent of Overwatch who believed in justice above all else
Only for Doom to open his eyes to the reality of what happens to justice
too bad every system has failed to bring justice to those who deserve it
America justice system
Also i liked seeing reaper and sombra relationship
Really liked how they were about to kill eachother
Same. Also love that Sombra’s Talon skin officially canon now and not just for the Archives
Also i did not expect to see fucking sigma
True. That explains a lot about Reaper’s first mission for Talon. Or at the least biggest mission
Also i REALLY think there should be a story about Widow and Reaper since well gerard
I wonder what phase of their plan requires Sigma? It can’t be anything good, that’s for sure
We don't know sigma true extent of his power but jesus fuck sigma is insanely strong
i love OW
True. Also, this whole story is just giving me “Reaper will turn on Doomfist” vibes
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
In Overwatch 2
Oh yeah 100% this is so easy to tell
He litteraly imagined his wife telling him "This isn't who you are you can leave this life"
I doubt he’ll be allowed to roam free once everything is said and done, but at least he’ll probably be allowed to see his family again
Probably behind bars or something, but at least he’ll no doubt do what’s right
He does seem more moody
he's beyond saving by this point
Maybe, but you never know. Sometimes, there’s always that very slim chance of redemption
bah i dont want redemption
Reaper is most likely supposed to be the tragic character
Though, I just hope it’s not a play on Darth Vader destroying Palpatine
He fucking decks doom
I don't think Reyes wants redemption either
also sidenote
he wants vengeance
^^ this story made reaper less like
Comic book villain like
I’m not saying he wants redemption. He wanted to bring true justice to those who deserve it, but Doomfist opened his eyes to reality and he slowly drifted down a dark road to obtain it
Right now, his mind is clouded by darkness, but somewhere in that darkness, there’s that spark that could redeem him
After all, he clearly hasn’t let go of his family in Reflections despite what he thinks of himself in Code of Violence
I'm satisfied with the explanation for Reyes's turn
The worst thing about Reyes before was like
idk
how to word it
I'm glad he's not brainwashed or a double agent or something dumb like that
Like I said. Doom had to have manipulated him in some way
I love Doom
He and Moira are quickly growing into my fav characters
Talon in general is so fucking GOOD
if Sigma ever got his shit together and realized what they were doing
Funny thing is. It’s people exactly like Akande who corrupt the system. Bending and twisting it to their own means through manipulation, money, and power
True. That’s why Reaper is the one keeping tabs on her at all times
what's doom's surname?
And as he’s shown, he’s more than capable of eliminating her if need be
does he have one?
i remember rading something about him being like
a reincarnation?
icr its vague af
Doomfist — Akande Ogundimu
i mean my memory of it >_>
Its a generational name for the holder of the gauntlet
