That means don't post sarcastic comments, or you will be removed.
This is your final warning
I don't understand the story of the payload on route 66
Why are the attackers delivering it to deadlock gang
And if defenders are the deadlock gang then why are they trying to stop attackers
other way around - attackers are playing the role of Deadlock
Don't think too hard about it
Maps don’t really mean anything /srs
There might be a bit of story like on kings row but overall there’s barely any
I think his bf/husband/fiancee was called Viktor. I might be wrong though as Im not a lore Wizard like some people.
I think it was in the baset thing that it was fully confirmed??
Bastet was where we first learned of it in general.
Not just fully confirmed
And his ex-boyfirend's name was Vincent, not Viktor.
Just boyfriend, from 30+ years ago.
were they confirmed to have been married?
i don't mean to be nitpicky but i've always thought that it was a bit weird that they never really directly said or even implied marriage, other than the fact that he fathered pharah
idk maybe i'm looking too far into things but it always seemed like they were trying to avoid saying they were married
the only times we see or hear about ana and sam are in the pharah/ana ingame interaction and in the archives spray
i can't post images but i'm sure you know what i'm talking about
i'm probably looking too far into things but on another note
After Blackwatch was exposed (due to her meddling)
@peak escarp did they make a statement saying that moira had something to do with this?
because i never knew that she had a role in getting blackwatch exposed
ohhh in bastet it says that ana had a wedding ring, implying that she and sam were married
nevermind then
it's more of a pet theory of mine - the reason Reyes impulsively shot Antonio rather than following the plan and kidnapping him was because of Moira's experiments on him making him more impulsive as a side effect
it may have been unintentional though
especially since it seems like it would be easier to do underground experiments when protected by overwatch
aside from that incident, Reyes/Reaper is known for being a careful planner (there are voice lines referencing it both in Retribution and normal pregame interactions for Reaper)
so something had to have caused his out-of-character moment - Moira is the most likely culprit
Do we know if mauga is gonna come back
maybe he might
He likely will
I feel like I saw some OW2 thing with his silhouette in the background as a teaser/possibility
Can't find anything official like that tho
Lore-wise, I'd be surprised if he didn't return. Baptiste story spoilers: ||He was nowhere to be found after the explosion at the end of the Baptiste story||
the devs have said they still want to use Mauga as a hero
blowing him up at the end means they dont have to give him the same kit he had in the story
he could come back as a brawly cyborg
Do we ever know what happened to Lucio after the explosion thing?
The ow2 gameplay year ago thing
No, presumably we'll find out in 2
Streamers played it during blizzcon https://youtu.be/A6nkFfP5uxU
Its pve and the cutscene at the end shown an airship exploded
ah that’s where I was thinking you were going with that
the explosion was a placeholder scene for Blizzcon
it will end differently in the final version
Oh good. I just watched it and I don't want my boy Lucio to die
it's unlikely any hero will die in OW2
Even if the explosion itself is real he's going to be fine
Yeah good point. The worst thing that could happen is that Lucio gets hurt pretty bad, and gets fixed up.
it could even allow for a skin to be made
Oh yeah that's true
The skin would just be Lucio wrapped up in a cast around his whole body and every sound he makes it uncomfortable pain, with the occasional "ow"
He's not dying. We've seen him later.
He appears to join the Overwatch team.
There is a semantic argument to be made about whether he joined the team or just joined the party temporarily
I think he does, because he seems like the kinda character to do that
I think some (like Lucio, Pharah and Baptiste) will join permanently, while others (Zarya, D.Va) will just join for a mission that's relevant to them
theyll also most likely add in villians seperate from talon
not villains exactly, but there needs to be a faction that Talon can fight, so we can have playable Talon missions
possibly null sector
Overwatch is like 7 people, it wouldn't make sense for them to send waves of goons against them
Is Sojourn's railgun a directed energy weapon ?
I don't know why people thought that a railgun hero would break the game
Talon and Null Sector are allies
ah
the perfect faction for Talon to fight is Helix Security
Helix are the ones who guard Overwatch's old bases and are the ones likely to be enforcing the Petras Act, so Overwatch can fight them too
Only shown in stills, but those two were shown in concept art for the Toronto mission
hmm
Storyboards*
ooh this would be interesting
a zarya playable mission i mean
because she seems really against overwatch helping in russia
like when she eliminates an overwatch hero on volskaya she makes it very clear the russia does not want overwatch there
nope
she's a Russian soldier
and former weightlifting champion
theres quite a few heroes who have nothing to do with Overwatch or Talon
or are linked through someone else
Zarya isn't really against overwatch per-se, she just doesn't want anything to do with it
I also think, D.va would become a permament fixture to Overwatch, but will be stationed back in Korea because of the constant threat of Omnic attacks
Zarya I can definitely see her as a one and done type of deal with OW
Voice Lines aren't really canonical, they're just what ifs
i thought our understanding is that the information in the voice line is canonical, but the voice line never canonically takes place
Zarya thinks Russia doesn't need Overwatch
But she probably wouldn't be against helping them to prove it
That's pretty much the same thing
Voice lines are how characters would react if they were in the hypothetical in-game situation
I feel like Eventually when enough conflict rises, like with what Doomfist is probably planning, Zarya and Russia would have no choice but to team with Overwatch
I was looking back through some messages in this channel and saw this
does Ana’s eye no longer count? after it got shot by widow
Ana doesn't have it anymore
She didn't put it back or get a new one after getting shot
theres a voiceline where she declines mercy's offer to fix her eye
tracer kinda sus ngl 0_0
!!shitposting
Shitposting will result in a loss of access.
what Party said - I was only counting current prosthetics, Ana lost hers and never replaced it
she's joining the new overwatch
that hasnt been confirmed has it?
she's teaming up with them
it's not confirmed whether this is a permanent join or a temporary alliance
Is lucio and mei in overwatch?
Mei is, Lucio isn't yet but he's likely joining in 2
I really want to see hanzo teaming up with Genji for ow2
I wonder what sigma would do if he found out of talon is using him
I'm not sure. As much as I would like it if he obliterated them and went off elsewhere I can imagine he already knows. He just dosen't care. They fund his projects and let him do whatever, then occasionaly let him out to destroy some enemies.
Well if he tried to leave talon he would probably have to throw some hands first
Yeah, that's why I imagine he either dosen't care and stays with them, or destroys his way out. Unless Talon knows his strength and lets him run free
Sigma is a pretty nice person so l don’t think he would do bad stuff and kill good people just because his projects are getting funded
That's true, he seems like a good person, so who knows. I hope we find out what happens in OW2 though
We don’t know fully about his insanity anyways
Yeah, all we knows is that he's a little erratic and he hears music that nobody else hears
I’m pretty sure he has multiple personality’s though
Some assumptions can be made based of his in game voice lines and some parts of his model
I’m pretty sure he’s only insane when he uses his gravity powers
That makes sence
he doesn't have multiple personalities
He screams when gets kills with his ability or ult
so do most heroes
But I think without whatever stuff talon put on him he would just be permanently insane
he's not insane
he has brain damage
he also doesn't know that Talon is using his research
Well still what ever talon used makes him able to act normal again
Then he was just suddenly acting normal again?
what do you mean
we don't know how he was acting - the origin trailer is very stylized/exaggerated
It was stated in his lore that when he was imprisoned all he did was whimper to himselve random equations and keep telling himself to hold it together and when he was broken out he wouldn’t just randomly act normal again
where does it say that?
Let me get it
Upon returning to Earth, De Kuiper was quarantined in a secret government facility. Between his ravings about the patterns of the universe, the psychic damage he sustained, and the gravitic anomalies happening around him, he was deemed unsafe and detained for years under the name "Subject Sigma." Isolated and unable to control his powers, De Kuiper retreated into his own mind. He thought he would never see the outside world again.
That's surprisingly dark
naturally, if he was removed from that environment, he would recover and seem "normal"
ok my fault i swore i could of remembered it saying something else
well still he has that secret selection animation easter egg that can point to talon controlling him with that armor
what
if you select sigma and wait like a minute theres a secret animation where he just looks like he snaps out of something and looks around worried before he goes back to normal
Junkrat does that too
it's just an idle animation
it doesn't mean Talon is controlling him
have you seen it? im pretty sure it does mean something though
im pretty sure it does
we've already been told that Talon is lying to him, but there's no indication that they're controlling him
Talon doesn't even control Widowmaker
she has her own free will
im just assuming that the armor sigma has is controlling him in some way to make sure his mental issues dont take over based on some gameplay and lines
Honestly, I doubt Talon even need to control him that way
Also, if you want to look towards the game for this info
i wonder if sigma made his own armor
Look at Sigma's hero gallery description
or at least designed it
yea i meant manipulate i said it wrong
But manipulating doesn't imply control
not in the sense of them having actual control
They just convince him to work for them
Not control him through anything like armour etc
manipulation comes in many forms - bribery, blackmail, emotional manipulation, etc.
But not literal control
According to Blizzard, Sigma is “unaware” he’s “being used as a living weapon.” Instead, he’s largely working off-site, in a lab Talon has granted to him.
I mean, it's Blizzard's words that he's being manipulated
The main material itself proves that
i just hope sigma gets some more lore in ow2 to clear some stuff up
Zenyatta is trans
Zenyatta is a robot
Zenyatta has a 10 inch monster dong and the best tiddies in monk-land
i want to see sigma full power potential since its storymode
!!shitposting @desert edge
@desert edge Shitposting will result in a loss of access.
sure you weren't
Oh that
sigma is one of the main reasons i want talon missions
theres gonna be a story campaign and just pve hero missions
Sigma is kept in a lab, it's unlikely we'll see him in Story Missions
but there's always Hero Missions
what does the living weapon part mean then
not every hero will appear in the Story Missions
Sigma, the Junkers, Hanzo, Ashe - these heroes are least likely to appear
talon is using sigma for his research as well
is sigma really less likely than hammond to appear in story missions
I was including Hammond among the Junkers
oh
I'd think Symmetra is also unlikely to appear? Can't think of any other right now apart from what was mentioned.
i feel like sigma will at least make some sort of cameo when it comes to talon in the story missions
Symmetra might since there are missions in India
what about ana and 76
2 player missions would be fun but i doubt they'd make them
Ohh, I see, makes sense.
if we get more heroes joining their crusade, we could get DLC missons for them
they are using sigmas research to further their plans but i wonder how exactly
but afaik they're sticking with 4-player missions
story mode is probabaly why ow2 is taking a while to come out
undoubtedly
someone speculated that the Puller makes use of Sigma's gravitational research to have that tractor beam
all the animation and voice acting work they'd have to do
since Talon and Null Sector are working together
not to mention all the gameplay stuff
maps is also gonna be twice the size of overwatch maps
i wonder if they finish pvp before pve is finished, would they release pvp then release pve later
probably not
i'd hope not
they're promoting it as a package
it'd be such a big rip off to release just the pvp update as $60
the PvP update will come to the game whether you buy OW2 or not
it's only the PvE side that will cost extra
yeah so it doesn't make any sense to release it first
but we'll still get more lore before then
comics and short stories
maybe another novel
comics
Blizzard has confirmed more comics are in production
I wonder if you can buy pvp and pve separately
I mean if you don’t already own ow1
Rumor
Not sure about making OW1 free to play (was a rumour afaik), but I'd guess if you don't own OW1, you'll get PvP when you buy OW2.
No use on selling it separately if OW1 owners will get that part for free. Though personally, I wish it'd stay separated. In any case, this isn't lore anymore so.
it's likely that "OW1" will cease to exist when OW2 comes out
So if you couldn’t buy pve and pvp separately shouldn’t you get a discount on pve if you already have pvp
Yeah, it's more like a replacement than a sequel.
we don't know what the monetization will look like
also AterLupus is right, we're getting off topic
O yea
Think of PvE as a separate game, it's the selling point. You'll get the new PvP you want it or not.
if you haven't checked out the latest novel, Deadlock Rebels, I highly recommend it
Yea I’m fine with that I’m just wondering if you will get a discount on ow2 if you already do have ow1
i want to get it but i'm stingy with money
really made me appreciate Ashe's character more
Actually, I just ordered the novel a couple days ago, waiting on it's arrival
if you have Audible, the audiobook is fantastic
Does it have the voice actors?
Which novel did you like more from the two of them?
I highly doubt there will be any kind of discount, but I'll drop it here, @crisp hearth.
did they get matt and jennifer to voice it
it's read by Jennifer Hale, the voice of Ashe
That’s kinda unfair
she does a fantastic McCree impression
Oh this alone may make me get the audio book lmao.
Really this is my last reply for this alksdjla but they're not obligated to give a discount, in fact, afaik most companies won't give a discount when they release a sequel for the owners of the original. So not really unfair.
I'm guessing the audio book and the ebook version are sold separately, right?
yes
I mean makes sense
but they're not too expensive, only about $10
even better
I got all 3 versions (physical, ebook and audiobook) because the better the novels sell, the more likely we are to get more
true
Hmm, I might get them. I'm saving for something really expensive but hey, OW has been my special interest and I'm pretty much an Ashe main at this point lmao. Does the first novel also has an audiobook? (Though I rather read, if it has a voice actor too it'd be super nice).
and like I said, they're not that expensive
The Hero of Numbani also has an audiobook, read by Cherelle Skeete (voice of Orisa)
she reads a bit slowly though, and isn't as good at doing voices for the other characters
Without the robotic voice?
no robotic effect, not even for Orisa's dialogue
Now I'm interested in the McCree impression
The fact they get VAs to read the novels is really nice, at least for me, so I might end up getting the ebooks and the audiobooks. While I'd like the physical books too, I'm not in the USA so I'm guessing shipping would up the price some.
does it sound like ashe just mocking him lmao
Nah, I'm in the UK and shipping was non-existent
^ same, though i ordered on the 5th and its expected on the 29th of june through to 29th july
That's a long delivery window
Mine's coming by next Wednesday
It was ordered earlier this week
Ohhh alright, I'll check it out then! Thank you.
This channel is for serious discussion strictly related to the lore of Overwatch. Shitposting will result in a loss of access.
Final warning.
Im pretty sure this has been asked before but when orisa says right at the end of The Hero of Numbani "a quick sojourn abroad" does that mean anything in relation to Soujourn, is she the mystery woman?
it likely means that Orisa (and Efi) will go help out Overwatch for a while
it's an odd word to use unless you're specifically trying to hint at a meeting with Sojourn
yeah i was thinking that
Which hero’s are fighting for good but isn’t in overwatch or isn’t teaming up with overwatch
Soldier and Ana
and Torbjorn
every other good-aligned hero is either with Overwatch or will join them in the future
Torbjorn isn’t in overwatch anymore?
he retired and went back to his workshop in Sweden
Oh
there's a few neutral-aligned heroes who aren't with Overwatch or are going to join them
like Hanzo and Hammond
Is sym a good person? I don’t really know her lore that much
I'd say she's more neutral
Would zen be neutral as well
Vishkar does good but uses oppressive/exploitative means
Zen would be good
but he's likely to team up with Overwatch when Genji goes to see him
it wont show here but if someone with perms pastes it, you can see Talon members (sombra, widow, some soldiers) are attacking(?) zen & genji
note that storyboard things are always subject to change, so this may not be final
is that by Blizzard?!
It's a piece from a storyboard they showed in Blizzconline i believe
Could sigma kill reaper?
it's pretty even if you can shield dance well
in-game, sigma has better chance of survival imo
lore-wise, fairly matched if sigma's in-game abilities are in lore, too
I don’t understand ults in lore, do they always have access to them?
Why would sig have to wait use one of his abilities? Or why does rein have to wait to use an earthshatter ?
the "wait" is most likely for game balance, im unsure why they'd wait in lore
there's a spreadsheet somewhere here with heroes abilities and if they're known to be in the overwatch universe or just ingame, its a good thing to look at
Is it pinned?
yeah, search for the list from "superduper", listed is abilities and weapons which are featured in lore
Any one from usa I need help please dm me
yes - ultimate abilities can be used at will, although some that are tied to items (like Tracer's Pulse Bomb or D.Va's self-destruct) can only be used once before the item needs to be replaced
innate abilities or abilities tied to multi use items (Primal Rage, Deadeye, Tactical Visor, Infrasight, BOB, etc.) appear to be usable at will
Wait, do winston knew Reaper is Reyes?
When in recall video
(my memory is a bit blur about that video tho, but if he didnt know, what will winston react when fellow ex overwatch attack him)
no, Winston doesn't know that Reaper is Reyes
winston doesn't know that soldier and ana are still alive i think
nope
Do we know how roadhogs take a breather works canonically?
The stuff inside is his anti-rad medicine
Hi ppl who wanna talk
did you have questions about the lore?
Yeah
such as?
Which characters so far are confirmed to be in story mode
Baptiste, Bastion, Brigitte, D.Va, Doomfist, Echo, Genji, Lucio, McCree, Mei, Mercy, Pharah, Reinhardt, Sombra, Torbjorn, Tracer, Widowmaker, Winston, Zarya and Zenyatta have all been seen in the storyboards and cutscenes seen for OW2
And all hero’s are getting hero missions related to them right?
all heroes will be playable in hero missions
the hero missions are generic, randomized missions, not really related to any heroes
Oh
Additionally, Orisa was teased to appear in the story. It is also incredibly unlikely that Reaper doesn't appear, considering he was the main villain for a few years, and is still very relevant.
Isn't Soujorn also confirmed?
yes, but she's not an OW1 hero
Oh right, wasn't sure if they meant that
other OW2 heroes will probably be part of the story too
Do we have any ideas who the ow2 heroes could be besides sojourn and like mauga
Junker Queen is likely
there was a hint towards someone associated with the Shimada family
but they've been very quiet about new heroes, or even about Sojourn for that matter
Mauga is also kinda heavily teased/unofficially confirmed
so is uprising during the omnic crisis or after the omnic crisis?
long after the omnic crisis
the omnic crisis was about 30 years ago, Uprising was 7 years ago
there was a letter from their Swordmaster that came out with Kanezaka
God I really need to read up on all the lore
and in the Dev Update for Kanezaka, Jeff said that the new map featured lore for a new character connected to the Shimada family
the significant part of the map was the Yamagami sword shop (owned by Asa and Toshiro Yamagami, who were the swordmaster and swordmaker for the Shimada family)
and some graffiti that spells out "yokai", or demon
What about the possibility we get the people attacking the Hashimoto?
Or a hashimoto member
there's a theory that the vigilante attacking the Hashimoto is Yamagami's daughter
Yeah, just found that whilst researching it
(although I think it's just Hanzo and it's a red herring)
I mean, Hanzo did attack multiple times to pay respect to Genji
Asa
And it would be cool to have a Hashimoto as a villain, perhaps they're sided with Talon
there's also graffiti on the Hanamura map that says "Hanzo lurks in the shadows"
Hanzo ga kage kara miteru . . . Hanzo watches from the shadows
I think the daughter is a red herring, and the hero teased will be Asa Yamagami, the former Shimada swordmaster and current enforcer for the Hashimoto
yeah
I hope they tell us about new heroes soon
they've already covered new modes and new maps
surprises are nice too
My copy of Deadlock Rebels arrived
Along with my final grades for this academic year
So if he knew the truth, he would turn on Talon, or?
I heard Genji was a ninja
uhuh
Or uh...check pin?
!!loreguide
This is a guide for people who don't know where to begin with the lore of Overwatch. The first thing is probably to go watch the shorts. They're popular, easy to consume, and pack a lot of story and character.
Shorts Playlist: https://bit.ly/2UQyTeL
There are many comics, short stories, and blog posts as well. The most important ones are:
Binary: https://bit.ly/2IzNvJy
Masquerade: https://bit.ly/2IzNTI0
What You Left Behind: https://bit.ly/2Fh7MRz
There is also an important chain of events following Ana and Soldier 76 (and Mercy at the end):
Legacy: https://bit.ly/2DgM1jQ
Old Soldiers: https://bit.ly/2KLILTV
Bastet: https://bit.ly/2QuXHmM
Valkyrie: https://bit.ly/2CF5JVE
The rest of the stories are mostly optional. Special mention goes out to the Junkers, who have an entertaining string of stories:
Wasted Land: https://bit.ly/2DeKB9G
A Moment in Crime: http://bit.ly/2fMsVYB
Going Legit: https://bit.ly/2InZUkm
The Plan: http://bit.ly/2uZiitC
There's not really a specific order for the rest of it
I hope the story campaign has like side missions related to the junkers and other people
I dont think it will
They said not all heroes will appear in the campaign
But there will almost certainly be post-launch story
we know of 1 confirmed, 2-6 speculated
apparently there was a dev interview with Chu and one of the lead artists saying they wanted OW2 to launch with 40 heroes (so the 32 from OW1 plus 8 more), but I've never been able to find it
They’re really hiding the new heroes
they're a big part of OW2
I think we won't get info on them until much closer to launch
aside from hints and clues
they may have already been hinted and we won't know it until they get revealed as an upcoming hero
many post-launch heroes appeared first in the lore before being playable
the only ones who didn't were Orisa, Ashe, Baptiste and Sigma
The whispers that play when sigma uses his ability’s is actually kinda creepy
Oh yeah for sure
And they're just quiet enough so that you can only hear them if you're paying attention
Oh yeah he's terrifying
good thing he's not violent
All ults would be pretty terrifying irl
When was echo hinted?
she appeared in Reunion in 2018 and wasn't added to the game until 2020
not so much a hint as "here's Echo, she'll be playable in the future"
Actually, Mercy's ult is probably the scariest
Think about it, it would be pretty scary to see a random person flying around with wings looking like an angel
Once you consider in how angel's are supposed to look
Won't let me put it here though
Point is, if you think someone is about to turn into that
I don't wanna see it
wouldn't be that scary
She's also not literally an angel
I don’t think a blue shimmering wall would be all that terrifying
I think it’d be scary to us, but in the overwatch world it’d probably just be a little surprising at first to see a hardlight wall that expansive
The vast majority would not be terrifying
Giant red gorilla
I said vast majority.
would sound barrier murder people
I still don’t understand how that works
the sonic technology makes the least amount of sense to me out of most of the things in the OW universe honestly
Lucio doesn’t have any healing abilities in lore. That’s only for gameplay.
the soundbarrier is canon though
“I’ve got you covered,” Lúcio said as he jumped over the railing, skates leaving trails of green light as he rode down the wall like he’d forgotten how gravity was supposed to work. He pushed his way toward the most vulnerable part of the crowd, those nearest to Doomfist. “Oh, let’s break it down!” he shouted as he activated his sound barrier, providing the audience with protection as they fled to safety.
Hope I'm not being too stupid but I'm a bit curious and confused about the Junkertown lore
Did the ALF members become Junkers?
Is the ALF still around or did they disband after destroying the omnium?
I think they disbanded, we haven't heard anything about them post-explosion
Alright thanks!
Speaking of that, when did the explosion happen?
Was Australia a more or less normal country before that?
like, developing alongside all the other countries
Australia is still a normal country
it's just the outback that's gone Mad Max
we see Sydney in "Going Legit" and it looks pretty normal and modern
Better late than never I suppose.
My house, my rules.
Ashe’s Deadlock Challenge begins June 22. https://t.co/fEo272mzUF
1902
13958
I hope its just the cover art, and not "Calamity"
Her doesn't seem as "fluffy" as in the book cover
It does look straighter
assuming the skin is gonna just be the book cover one
could technically be something else
I think the silhouette matches pretty well
the what
isnt there radiation in the outback?
is hanzo related to anyone
yes
he's Genji's older brother
coooool
Who would win tho 🤔
Woo hoo
Well they fought again and genji basically won
okay
so hanzo and genii are the dragon brothers
Hanzo doesn't really have anyways to win.The arrows would be deflected and Hanzo would struggle putting Genji down since hes very durable
i just found out genji is a cyborg lol no one tells me these things
i also found out the doomfirst cant take off his big punching hand did u know that
no way that makes him even hotter
Genji says it himself. Its also in his character bio
Read the character bios
"My halloween costume? Cyborg Ninja" is my favourite line of his mentioning his state of being
what's Genjis sword called again?
Well the ult for it is called "The Dragons Blade", I think
also is that black black part a tattoo, shading, or did he get a dark tan or something?
he has a prosthetic arm
no it has a name, something in japanese i think
Ryu Ichimonji
thats it, thankyou
What was the time span between overwatchs collapse and recall
5 years
rough timeline of the last 15 years:
-15: Mercy joins Overwatch
-12: Hanzo almost kills Genji, Genji is saved by Overwatch
-9: Ecopoint Antarctica is hit by a polar storm, Mei's team goes into cryostasis
-8: Retribution
-7: Uprising
-6: Storm Rising/Ana goes MIA/Jack and Gabe fight and blow up the HQ
-5: Overwatch disbanded
longer version: https://docs.google.com/document/d/19K_zQ_UM0xQ0a7tahFwKLo5BmR41GEEezWezvIoJ__E/edit?usp=sharing
R-30: The Omnica Corporation begins to create omnics - robots designed to help humanity reach economic equality. Dr. Mina Liao is one of their leading designers. Omnica fails to meet promised quotas, and is investigated for fraud. The company is forced to dissolve and the omniums are shut down. ...
R - 6 really is a busy year
How did it take an entire year after that to shut them down though lmao
The wheels of bureaucracy turn slow
oooo is that EVERYTHING?
basically yes
thats awesome
honestly no game does lore the right way overwatch is the only one
and i feel like everyone tries to copy the style overwatch does it in and no one is able to do it but blizzard haha
eeh
for one there's games that are actually focused on worldbuilding primarily
There's also the fact that many games have amazing lore from before OW
I think it's really the FPS games that don't really get it quite right, I've never seen lore as good as OW
But I can list quite a few (Single player) games that have just as much lore
valorant is trying to do it too
Is it? I've never played it
From what I know it's got the "every character has unique abilities" thing
But I do love how much the Overwatch team does for the game. It's very impressive.
If they weren't passionate for the game and just wanted to do it for the money, they wouldn't make dozens of comics and 5 short novels just about lore
there's 4 short stories
I must have miscounted. My point still stands though
*4
yes, that
There is one game that’s kinda doing it good
Titanfall
They have 3 games
Comics
And there’s a possibility for a fourth game
Depends on how long ea wanna drag out apex legends
Overwatch has a lot of lore for a game that didn't prioritize the lore until the sequel
Yeah I think that's the only downside
Yeah me too
I loved the look on the cover art so I can't wait to see what it looks like in game
Well I can assume it is, since it says Deadlock Rebels
I'm totally getting that skin
Wait can someone link the comic
It's a book unfortunately
It's a novel, and you can purchase it online

I loved it
Can someone send me a link to the new ashe even skin
it hasn't been revealed yet
It looks to be a legendary
They dont often do legendaries for these skin challenges.
they've done a few - Dr. Ziegler, Maestro, Lego Bastion
anas bastet and sigmas maestro are the only other legendaries i can think of
Bastet was epic
oh yeah and the mercy and bastion ones
I wish I could get Ziegler
I am so mad I missed leto bastion
They've done a few, but its not often
Even ignoring the 3 we get every event (2 for Halloween 2019)
Pachimarchi, Kanezaka, Stone By Stone, London Calling were the last 4
All epic
How does baps immortality field work
We don't know exactly but it seems like it projects a barrier around the vital organs
The resulting explosion shattered the air. The middle of the pier was blown into the air, chunks of concrete raining into the bay. Some crashed into the decks of nearby boats, capsizing them. Seagulls scattered overhead, shrieking.
When the smoke cleared, Mauga was gone. Baptiste lay on one end of the pier, battered but breathing. The prototype device hummed in the air, emitting a protective field of energy around him. It was the only thing that had kept him alive.
“Good to know that works,” he wheezed, pressing a button on top```
to use sci-fi jargon, it's probably an inertia dampening field
reduces fatal velocity so it still hurts but won't kill you
It seems almost like a tougher second skin, like you can still be moved and interacted with but you can't be wounded outside of blunt smacks
Inform me about Doomfist lore
his family owns a high tech prosthetics company and in his youth he competed in martial arts tournaments until he lost his right arm and became ineligible to compete with a prosthetic arm
so he turned to crime, and fell under the mentorship of Akinjide Adeyemi, the Second Doomfist
eventually, Akande kills his mentor and takes up the title of Doomfist, rising through the ranks to become a leader of Talon . . . just in time for Overwatch to arrest him and lock him away for 6 years
The Doomfist animated short is a literal masterpiece
@worthy rose This is not a shipping channel
So... Stone by Stone is an interesting read, I really do like the interactions between Satya and Zenyatta, though I'm not done with the book yet
Aurora kinda reminds me of Orisa in that she's curious about the world and wanting to learn
So there's something more to Vishkar then meets the eye, I actually really enjoyed that
I also realize, the interaction between Zenyatta and Symmetra in-game literally make no sense when you actually read the short story about them, yes I know they aren't canon but, Symmetra was literally changed by Zenyatta
I believe those interactions were before, they got new voice lines when the book came out (look up overwatch interactions, it’s yt channel with ow interactions)
Oh thank god they changed them, I don't see how Symmetra could hate Zenyatta when her live was changed by him XD
That interaction made no sense even before the short story.
Sym comments on how it's ridiculous to be lectured about order by a machine, but machines are orderly by nature.
yeah, therefore Sym would have no problem with Omnics
And Zenyatta would be the definition of peaceful and orderly
Do you guys think anyone is going to die in ow2?
Like death as in canonical death
most likely not a playable character
It's highly unlikely
I doubt it
Maybe they could kill off a talon member
Actually, I think it would be a good idea to kill off a playable one
Bc i think Maximilian will be playable
Games kill off playable characters all the time, and it makes great plot points
Like if they killed off Doomfist for there to be another power vacuum in Talon
Or maybe Solider goes up against Reaper again
It would be cool but unlikely
Yeah
I don't think Maximilien will be a playable hero
he's too much of a coward
Maximillian only cares about cash
And his life
Dude wouldn't betray Talon with a way for them to find out
Like literally swapping sides
I disagree - I think he's going to turn on Talon
we've already seen that he's not happy about the war they're starting
in the 2019 trailer
Answer the call: http://www.playoverwatch.com
Overwatch 2 is the globe-spanning sequel to Blizzard Entertainment’s acclaimed team-based game, building upon the original’s battle-honed foundation and carrying forward everything players have earned into a new era of epic competition and team play. Square off against rivals in PvP modes, and expl...
Gonna watch it real quick
Maximilien: I can't do this.
Doomfist: You've made your choice. Nobody will stop us.
First time I've seen it, certainly interesting
i just wanted lore ab them ugh 🙄
like most, if not all of the legendary edition ones right
Not really, but a lot of them are cannon.
In other words, no @arctic loom
Many canon skins are not from Archives.
Likewise, many Archives skins are non-canon.
Or not yet canon for some
Especially this year's, none of those are canon.
A few examples of past skins we know or can assume are not cannon are King Jamison, Socialite, Gwishin, Equalizer, and the 3 Monaco epics.
new book out?
yes
I have to catch up on a lot of short stories and comics but I'm liking what i'm reading so far
Yes.
I am halfway through and the ashe x mccree moments are just so cute
I like the part when ||Ashe asks BOB if he thinks McCree is handsome and BOB gives the "meh" gesture||
||BOB throwing heat||
||bob neither agrees nor disagrees that Mccree is handsome||
Archives I feel sadly isn't about lore anymore
how is it not?
Last few events haven't been like canonical skins
Most Skins aren't canon
This year makes it seem like they're going the Overwatch characters throughout History route
The recent one is a canon skin however with the Ashe Skin
A decent chunk are
Yeah true
Imo, I don't think Skins should be canon with the actual story-line, but that's just me
They're literally just skins to make your character look better
so heroes can't have skins based on their history?
Never said that, but It shouldn't be like, 'true canon' , hard to explain
I like canonical skins
I don't know what you mean by "true canon"
Blackwatch skins are "true canon"
Anyways, I'ma go read Deadlock Rebels now
Uprising skins as well
^
It was a term we used for stuff like SCP Foundation, where we had to pick out what was actually canon and what wasn't, cause everything in it is techinically 'canon', true canon for us just meant that what we were reading was actually part of the story and not something made just for a short story, seems like it applied to OW but really doesn't know
Overwatch doesn't have non-canon- . . . well, it does have the Junkenstein AU
and the Yeti Hunter story
Archives is about the past of the Overwatch universe.
The historical past of the Overwatch universe (18th century) is the same as the historical past of our universe.
Man it’s amazing to see how much effort they are actually putting into story mode if you really look into it
I’m excited to have fun with hero talents
Baptiste is the most boring character lore-wise
How
If you want to make a post, you should elaborate.
This is a discussion channel
Well my dear friend he barely has Lore and barly has a personality
he has a short story, which is a fair bit more than some heroes
zen has lore
stone by stone
I'd say that Baptistes personality is positive, jokey and somewhat sarcastic
Bap does have personality?
But tracer also has that kind of personality
A lot of heroes have that type of personality
is roadhogs love of pachimari canon?
Yes
You do realize, Not a lot of heroes actually have that type of personality?
Only ones I can think of are Baptiste, Tracer, Genji, and Junkrat
even if you go by that simple description, there's not many heroes that fit it
Genji is positive but not really jokey
Tracer is rarely sarcastic
Junkrat also is hardly sarcastic and I'd say not actually positive
If anything Baptiste's personality is closest to Mercy
Because they're both deeply altruistic and driven in part by regret of their past
Reinhardt makes dad jokes, and is pretty positive
junkrat is a lunatic with a negative number valued impulse control
They even worked together
tracer=gay
Baptiste is snarky. Like, MCU snarky.
But because the MCU and similar movies dominated the last decade
Baptiste looks generic
personally I think Tracer has the worst personality - too cheerful and optimistic
B-but cheers love the cavalry's 'ere?
peppy people get annoying fast
I prefer characters who are laid-back, with a good sense of humor and solid morals
Hana is alright, when she's not being D.Va
but we don't get to see much of her real personality
In shooting star she gave off narcissistic vibes to me
she does have a bit of a hero complex
the whole "I'm the only one who can do it" bit
just wish that short was better written
I know the junkers are just side characters really but they are hilarious I want more of them
Why rein is the best written character:
Rein has big uncle energy
Please tell me I’m not the only one who thinks Baptiste is the most bland character in the game
idk, what you left behind fleshed out bap lorewise and personalitywise
it’s hard to call any of the characters bland, though I’d like to see Brigitte fleshed out a bit more
she just seems like an attachment to Reinhardt and Torbjorn’s stories right now, which is fine for a character like hanzo who isn’t a part of the main story, but she’s joining new overwatch
I get that she’s Reinhardt’s squire but I’d like to see her get some independent story stuff
how could Widowmaker possibly be redeemed?
That’s like saying reaper can be redeemed, because he wasn’t always evil
what does redeemed even mean in this context?
Widowmaker will never be one of the good guys
on this topic, how does whatever talon did to widowmaker work?
is she brainwashed?
btw queue times are NOT faster they lied smhhh
even if she no longer found pleasure in killing, the good guys wouldn't just accept her
yes, it's from the novel
does that mean everything from the novels are canon?
she's conditioned to not feel any emotion, and to find pleasure in killing
yes
why wouldnt they be?
i'm just wondering about her allegiance to talon, having been the wife of an overwatch official
ok
is it like a stockholm syndrome type of thing
yeah then i don't really see a redemption arc being possible, this doesn't seem too reversible without some type of disney magic
im seriously wondering how everyone just turned on each other and the overwatch game happened
it isn't canon, i'd think of it as a training simulation
the game isn't canon
oh lol
at least its fun ig?
and OW2'w Story Missions
the game is like playing with action figures
hypothetical fights
but not actual scenarios that really happened
yeah i just wanted to know when reinhardt vs tracer was coming to theatres
in regards to Widowmaker, she does have free will - she visits her husband's grave and moved in to her family's ancestral mansion
we don't really know her motivations, but since she gets pleasure from killing and Talon lets her kill, she's got no reason to leave even if they would let her
Do you guys think any playable characters will actually die in the story mode
Nah, it could happen
Reinhardt rushes off an edge, forgets it OW 2 and just doesn't stop
But seriously, no deaths being possible is something they may want us to think
Death can be a powerful tool in story writing
Just because the basis was pvp doesn't mean people can't die
The characters can still be used, regardless of their canon status
It would be very strange to have a character be playable and interact with the other characters whilst they are dead in the lore.
they've already said they're open to the possibility
but any hero that dies in the lore will remain playable
Yo let's go
Doctor backed me up
But yeah, I mean they can do whatever they want, the idea of fans getting annoyed over deaths shouldn't limit them
doesn't mean I think they will kill anyone
if they do, it'll be Bastion, who can be repaired/rebuilt the way Orisa was
they also shouldn't do it just for shock value
plenty of great stories don't have any main characters die in them
Yeah ik
not really a redemption arc, but I think Maximilien will flip on Talon
My list of possible deaths is:
Reaper
Orisa
Bastion
Soldier
Ana
Reinhardt
Echo
Mcree
Hanzo
Winston
why them?
Alright so
Solider, Ana, Reaper have been around for a while now
Sure they could kill off another talon member, but a playable one makes sense
So there's Reaper, Sigma, Widow etc
they're not even the oldest
I know that
But timeline wise and having the most impact, they've certainly been there a long time
also everyone already thinks they're dead
Yeah ik
so them actually dying would be pointless
But I mean, that doesn't change the fact they can die
Sure it may seem pointless
But even believed dead they are still dead
Bastion, Echo and Orisa could always die shortly and come back, possibly with improvements/changes to their characters
they all already have
Mcree dying may be the least likely on that list, however I feel like there's a possibility. Either that or maybe some sort of redemption with the Deadlock gang, or maybe even he fights them or something idk
he already fought them
I know that lmao
I mean sure it's unlikely, but that's where the fun of it comes from
good writing builds up to things
Well maybe a final showdown with them, where either him or Ashe dies
bad writing shoves in plot twists and subverts expectations just to say "Haha you were wrong"
why Hanzo or Winston?
I wouldn't exactly call that bad writing
Well currently Winston is sort of the leader of OW, as far as I can tell at least, so having him die as a way to inspire the rest of them wouldn't be the worst idea
He's already proven he's willing to die to save everyone else
And I mean, Hanzo isn't exactly quiet about his want for redemption, and dying is seen as honorable in Japan
dying isn't honorable, it's a way to protect your honor
because living would be a disgrace
"Seppuku is a form of taking one's own life that was considered honourable among the feudal Japanese samurai class. Traditionally, the act consisted of stabbing oneself in the abdomen with a short sword to ensure a slow and agonizing death."
but Hanzo wants to reclaim his honor, so I dont think he wants to kill himself
Sure it wouldn't be the same as killing himself
But dying to protect Genji could regain his honour
so could a lot of things that don't involve dying
True
But I'm just saying what I think the most likely deaths are
Not deaths I think will happen
character death has to be meaningful
I mean, compared to Sombra or Brigitte, those deaths would probably have more impact
the only one I could see happening is Reinhardt sacrificing himself to protect Bastion - someone who was once an enemy, but Reinhardt has learned to forgive
Really?
I don't think Reinhardt would die to protect that
It seems more likely that he'd die for Brigitte, Torb etc
it would be a meaningful sacrifice
we already know he'd protect Brig or Torb
but doing it for Bastion would show character growth
Idk, I suppose I just don't see any point in him dying for something that can be rebuilt
not all omnics can be rebuilt
it depends on the damage
the OR15 that became Orisa didn't die, it was decommissioned
I thought Orisa was built from the broken OR15 in Numbani?
Lmao, really need to read the book
It's arriving Sunday
I hope they do more with sigmas character cause he was kinda rushed out
same, i wish we knew more about some of the other talon people like moria symmetra and sigma
Sym isn’t talon
I thought she was apart of talon?
maybe i’m dumb
but still i think sigma had potential to be a super interesting character
her boss is
a lot of heroes have unexplored potential
I feel like yall always talk about characters that dont have enough lore, what about the ones that do? who do we know the most about?
we know the entirety of Orisa's life
in terms of lore appearances - Tracer, Winston, Reaper and Soldier have the most
seems like it
As in she's only being brainwashed dude so she could overcome it for innstance and have an act of valour or smthn
she's not being brainwashed though
she's conditioned - she still has free will
she would not have an act of valor
the only thing that makes her feel anything is killing
Not exactly, she was not originally a ruthless emotionless sociopath
Her mission complete, Amélie returned to Talon, and they completed the process of turning her into a living weapon. She was given extensive training in the covert arts, and then her physiology was altered, drastically slowing her heart, which turned her skin cold and blue and numbed her ability to experience human emotion. Amélie was gone.
In a way I could say she was being brainwashed
you said that nothing from the games was canon... right?
not exactly
well besides archives
but then how'd we know that Ana's favorite vacation spot is hawaii?
the gameplay isn't canon, and the interactions are hypothetical (they are what the heroes would say if they met, but don't represent actual conversations that have happened)
See where you're coming from though although the fact that she was altered to only feel something from gaining a large kill count was a big change in her mindset
it's still not brainwashing
#played #weiner
I guess so, she's not exactly being controlled in ever action she does
brainwashing is changing what someone believes - Widowmaker doesn't believe Talon is good and that she's doing the right thing
she kills because it makes her feel good
she probably doesn't care for Talon's goals
isn't widowmaker a widow
Well, do we really know that?
yes - her first kill was her husband
Yes she killed her own husband hence where the name came from
why though
Talon enforced her to do so
Talon ig
she seems to care at least a little for talon
because Talon kidnapped her and used her as a sleeper agent
ohhh ok
Two weeks later she killed Gérard in his sleep.```
her interactions with bap and hanzo would suggest it at least
EXactly.
She seems to defend their antics alot.
Is it just me or is comp going to hell bc of ppl who just mess around
not exactly defend
this is the lore channel
Lmaoo.
i have absultly no clue how to do anything on discord no more sorry Lmaoo
Well, as in she tries to grow their forces and capture those who are wanted
..?
What?
Widowmaker isn't who they send to capture people alive.
Widowmaker is who they send to execute people they don't want alive.
And she follows through eagerly because it is the only thing that brings her life.
does reinhardt have anyone in life
What do you mean by that
like does he have anything
he's close friends with Torbjorn and his family
he's got Brigitte as his goddaughter
what's that
Rein has his code that he follows, and his pursuit of tilting at windmills.
what
Reinhardt is Brigitte's godfather - someone who is assigned as a guardian/proxy for one's parents
that too
he’s like an honorary uncle
he has the jokes too
when he left on his wandering quest, Brigitte asked to go with him
Though Overwatch was eventually disbanded, Reinhardt was not content to sit idly by while the world fell to disorder. Once again donning his Crusader armor, he has vowed to fight for justice across Europe like a knight of old, defending the innocent and winning hearts and minds with the promise of better days to come.
you should really read the hero bios
Overwatch is a vibrant team-based shooter set on a near-future earth. Every match is an intense 6v6 battle between a cast of unique heroes, each with their own incredible powers and abilities. Clash in over 20 maps from across the globe, and switch heroes on the fly to adapt to the ever-changing situation on the field.
Blackwatch was the black ops division of Overwatch
they did the illegal stuff - kidnapping, assassination, espionage
No
wait what
why did he have to go to jail
McCree got his redemption arc
