Hi
hallo
!!loreonly
This channel is for serious discussion strictly related to the lore of Overwatch. Shitposting will result in a loss of access.
? I literally answered ur question
Bro
!!wiki Genji/Quotes
For more information about the game, please refer to the wiki: https://overwatch.gamepedia.com/Genji/Quotes
Lúcio: Hey Genji, how bout I hook up your lights to my music?
Genji: That is not what they are for.
Okay so the lights have a purpose?
no
Nah it’s just genji being edgy
It's a joke interaction
Yes, the lights are for looking cool @worthy rose
But for practicality he can turn them off
If they have a purpose, its unknown, but not a big deal
Yeah i was kinda confused there too
lemme search it up rq
oh
Some speculate its related to the dragons, which are commonly speculated to be made from Hard Light. Some speculate that it helps him see in the dark. ... Some speculate that it helps him see in the dark. Genji needs to eat more carrots```
so nobody knows
yet
Whatever bro let’s stop stressing over something this small
what's junkrat's treasure?
we don't know
its probably not something tangible, since his bio calls it "a valuable secret"
okay
probably the answer to why/how the omniums woke back up after being shut down
Junk and Hogs treasure are pachimaris.
Wouldn’t put it past them, would make sense
Though Hanzo does say “You couldn’t have it on your person”
Would be funny, but not likely
Hanzo assumes it's treasure, just like everyone else
guys do u got something new about overwatch2
what is a nano

what if the only reason Roadhog has the secret friend pachimari is because he smuggles/hides drugs in it...?
ehh
That doesn't make sense
He isn't a smuggler
He works in chaos and theft, not drugs
What's the story between Angela and Genji? From what I know, Genji was the second youngest son of Sojiro Shimada. The Shimada clan was a criminal empire. While Hanzo was prepared to take on the responsibilities of running a criminal organization, Genji was not and sought to pursue another path. Compelled by duty, Hanzo slayed his brother. Theories suggest that Hanzo was initially a swordsman and the weapon he is bowing before in the cinematic is the very blade he used against Genji, but I digress.
Hanzo leaves his brother for dead and abandons the empire, ashamed and sad. What's happening from then on? Genji somehow survives, perhaps stumbling out of the complex with sheer determination before what, coming into the care of Doctor Ziegler? Does anyone have more info on this?
Genji didn't take his studies seriously and was instead a playboy
Hanzo went to straighten him out
Overwatch already had surveillance on the Shimada clan - they had agents on the ground who could get Genji out quickly enough to save his life
How do we know this?
they brought him to Dr. Zeigler so she could save his life
Hanzo then did end up "killing"him because of pressure from the elders. And it was with the sword, according to sources and implication
Thought so.
from Genji's bio: "The global security force saw Genji as a potential asset in its ongoing operations to combat the Shimada clan. "
ongoing operations is the important part here
I see, I see. So Overwatch had people surveilling or even on the grounds as miles and extracted Genji from the Shimada residence. He is brought to Doctor Ziegler who saves him from his grievous wounds. Was there anything mentioned why he decided to go full robot?
He was dismembered
dialogue during Retribution reveals that he was left unable to walk after his encounter with Hanzo
and he agreed to Overwatch's terms because he wanted to walk again
As Genji's injuries left him clinging to life, Overwatch offered to rebuild his body in exchange for his help.
He's missing an arm, and the ability to walk
He works with Overwatch for a couple years in the Blackwatch sub division until it's shut down, where he wanders until somehow coming into contact with Zenyatta. I'd like to imagine he was still quite impulsive and struggling with his emotions during this time and prior as evident by his behavior during retribution. Zenyatta assists Genj in finding inner peace. They eventually go there own ways. What happens next?
He was on the OW strike team between Retribution and him leaving
Presuming he helped break apart the Shimada empire as intended before being given other assignments and a change of scenery.
Strike team? Thought he was Blackwatch throughout his time.
He was on the strike team in Storm Rising and Doomfist Origins
He was also evidently on it for other missions too
yes - there's evidence that Blackwatch took down the Shimada family around the time of Uprising
Isn't that after Retribution?
Gotcha, think I got his story. Any details on what happened to him after he left Zenyatta, if he even did?
he was with Zenyatta until he left to answer Winston's recall, as far as we know
- "Killed" by Hanzo
- Cyberized into Blackwatch
- Retribution
- Shimada take down (implied around here)
- Storm Rising
- Doomfist
- Quits OW
- Meets Zen
- At peace
- Dragons
- Reflections
- Zero Hour
Another question. Reaper. Need more clarification on his story. From what I gathered...
Gabriel Reyes from Los Angeles. Enlisted in the military during or before the Omnic Crisis around the same time Jack Morrison did. Became a decorated officer within the military of the exact rank I'm hazy on. Selected for the experimental Super Soldier Program with an unspoken amount of candidates, injected with chemicals that, from what we know: Greatly increase strength, durability and stamina. Granted SS's the ability to immediately begin healing from wounds (not sure if the speed varies on age, likely true) and improve reaction time. After spending time in the American military, he's offered to join the newly forming Overwatch, of which he was initially appointed strike commander of. The rank was eventually given to Morrison, he having a more positive effect on the organization. Gabriel is put in charge of Blackwatch,
he enlisted before Morrison - we don't know his rank, but he was a "senior officer"
Senior Officer is a rank
Overwatch's short list of prospective agents included two members of the soldier enhancement program: Morrison and Gabriel Reyes, a senior officer.
not capitalized
A field officer, field-grade officer, or senior officer is an Army, Marine, or Air Force commissioned officer senior in rank to a company officer but junior to a general officer. In most armies this corresponds to the ranks of major, lieutenant colonel and colonel, or their equivalents. Some countries also include brigadier in the definition.
Hi...
Nevermind, not American
Just Canadian
With takes part in multiple operations, including taking down the Shimada clan and combatting the Deadlock Gang, from which he recruits both Genji and McCree. He recruits Moira after she is expelled from a facility for her lack of morals. He is subjected to a series of experiments by Moira, of which promise abilities none other have. These include the ability to dematerialize, partially dematerialize and materialize at any given moment. Not sure about the Siphoning ability. I'm unsure whether its Reyes himself who's actually Siphoning life from enemies as a product from the experiments or the unique ammo he utilizes. Why does he go to odds with Morrison?
something of note about the Soldier Enhancement Program's enhancements - they are done through genetic therapy
Ik the change of leadership, but what else contributed?
this will come into play later when Reyes has "genetic issues" that he asks Moira to help with
Aah, I see, I see. Not confirmed what specifically these issues are but we know we had them. The whole wraith thing. Was it a either a fix or an addition?
it seems like their friendship breaks down because of a lack of trust - Reyes did go behind Morrison's back to hire Moira, and it cost Overwatch a huge hit to their reputation
as of Uprising, we can see signs that the trust between them is eroding
Like what?
one second
why exactly reaper blame overwatch for what happened to him?
Gabe sent McCree in to investigate an active hostage situation without telling either Morrison or Amari, and when Jack asks, he evades
things seem tense here, but Ana is able to diffuse the situation
she goes MIA the following year (seen in "Legacy")
and then Reyes and Morrison don't have anyone to mediate between them
in "Old Soldiers", Reaper accuses Ana of "always taking his side"
Alright. He went behind the Strike Commanders back and brought onboard an renowned unethical doctor. With no mediator between the two of them, things get more intense. They inevitably clash at the Swedish facility, which explodes. From what?
Moira was before the tension
we don't know the details of the explosion
in-universe, it's believed to be caused by Morrison and Reyes fighting
The picture there is from 7 years ago. Moira was known to Jack before that
Morrison believes it was sabotage by Talon moles
Also, fun fact, apparently Reaper was going to die from the genetic problems the Super Soldier Program brought on, likely because he was an earlier candidate for the program. By the time of 76 they likely have ironed out some of the flaws.
Nah
You're gonna need a source on that fun fact, because I think you might be confused.
I.e, voice lines from Moira. "No need to thank me I only saved your life."
Wym?
that line could refer to her experiments on him, which allowed him to survive the explosion
Where Moira's prior experimentation is the only thing keeping him alive
As far as we know Moira wasn't in Swiss HQ.
So
I can rock with that.
Who said she was
I can Rock with that.
I still find it likely that the genetic problems he was talking about were life threatening. Ultimately a theory.
After the explosion, Gabe and Jack are presumed dead.
it's possible, but there isn't conclusive evidence for it
Gabe reappears as Reaper some time after, not sure how long after. Its said he is a mercenary so I presume he worked with other organizations before Talon. He blames Overwatch for what happened to him, or at the very least, has something out for everyone who was in Overwatch instead of Jack. Why?
we don't know his motivation, aside from what he says in Old Soldiers
he blames Overwatch for his condition somehow
but we don't have any more detail than that
Interesting. Perhaps its because no one was looking for him after the bombing and it was more focused on Jack. Theory.
I feel like this is something that will be developed more when they continue the Old Soldiers storyline
Its confirmed he's already killed Overwatch members, picking them off one by one. He's using Talon to get revenge against Overwatch, as their influence and resources are vast. Reaper is possibly immortal?
Immortal as in, he was zapped to nothing during his fight with Winston unless my memory is playing a goof, but we know he's alive.
this seems likely, considering the line "They left you to die. They left me to suffer."
Immortal Reaper, likely a byproduct of Moira. Fights Jack in old soldiers, what happens after that to present day? I'm also unsure where Doomfist comes in during this time and when the attempt to reclaim his gauntlet was.
Man I wanna RP rn so bad talking about this lmfao.
after Old Soldiers, Jack and Ana stay in Cairo and take down a local crimelord (see Bastet), then go visit Mercy in her aid camp in Cairo (see Valkyrie) before following Reaper to "somewhere in Europe" (based on the timeline, Reaper is probably heading to spring Doomfist out of prison)
I dont think I've read Valkyrie
Missing out on a chunk of knowledge there. Knew about Cairo.
btw that boy on first cinematic said the members of overwatch became mercenaries but all of they
became or just some
like soldier?
the ones who became mercenaries are probably ones we haven't heard of
I cant recall any who became mercs that we know, I can name two that are vigilantes.
mercynary
since the public doesn't know that Soldier: 76 and Shrike are Jack Morrison and Ana Amari
well, the public suspects that Soldier: 76 is Jack Morrison, but they don't know for sure
What's her name now? Her alter ego?
Bastet
she used Bastet while taking down Hakim, but she left that alias behind too
Dont think torb went Merc.
Torb retired and went back to his family
torb wasnt a merc
Probably still working in Ironclad.
now with a bastion
Torb was an engineer that was apart of a well known engineering company named Ironclad. Bastion went off and did his own thing after their encounter.
Yes, the best.
Bastion didn't go off and do its own thing - Torbjorn took it in
we see Bastion living with Torbjorn in OW2
The best doctor, pioneered medical research of which Ana utilized.
we talking after the fall of ow
Rein is... not sure. Touring Europe with Brig, not sure why.
she left ow because was the best choice
searching for purpose, probably
For Mercy? She was a great doc before Overwatch p sure.
Reinhardt felt lost when he was forced to retire
yo guys i have a quick question
Mercy was head of surgery at a Swiss hospital
mercy was just sitting at home in egypt doing god knows what
ig
is the recipe book canon? like there are some little stories in some recipes and idk they are funny
she was working in a medical aid camp
Lol
I don't see why not
Dude if its canon ima laugh lmfao
reaper making churros is canon fuck yeah
I hope when they reveal the type of latino Reaper is, its puerto rican or dominican
the cookbook is the only source we have for Ingrid Lindholm being a chemical engineer
Its probably Mexican.
Likely, but I still got my hopes up.
based on his Mariachi skins, I'd say Mexican
Skin, name and where he grew up.
btw sombra have a objective, because she not really follow 100% the orders
North has more Puerto Ricans, southern NA has more Mexicans.
of reaper
Sombra is using Talon just as much as they're using her
Sombra is merely using Talon for its resources and influence to further her own personal goal, which is finding out a conspiracy she stumbled upon when she was younger. Talon is aware of this, as Reaper conducted surveillance and reported his findings to Doomfist, of which he is fine with.
He says something along the lines of he has no problem with motivation in his people.
Odds are that Reaper, Sombra and Widowmaker aren't apart of a squad and deploy separately to handle missions themselves, only coming together for high priority missions.
guys in the pinned messages though are missing some maps, am i wrong?
The Volskaya thing was a rare partnering.
Not sure.
female
also looks like doomfist could escape from prison when he wanted
correct
tyty
Doomfist was biding his time, waiting for the right time to excape
no
Zarya is a female, just muscular because she lifted weights.
I'm not sure if Doom was taken down purposely. Here's why
you can see newspaper clippings in his cell about recent Overwatch activities and about the exhibit in Numbani that will feature his gauntlet
An interview with Jeff regarding the mystery omnic at the end of storm rising hints that it was something he necessarily wanted.
he wasn't captured on purpose, but he stayed in prison until he wanted to escape
oh yes i miss when maps used to change after a cinematic released
Ye
he had Talon moles in Helix giving him information
Have to reread Reinhardts comic, I think it references what he's really doing wandering.
he's very powerful
and very charismatic
if you haven't read The Hero of Numbani, you really should
he's written very well in that novel
Widowmaker. What alterations did they make to her in full?
Didn't know that was a novel, gotta read that too.
she was physiologically altered (via genetic therapy) to have a slower heart rate, which turned her skin blue
she was psychologically conditioned to not feel/express emotion and to only take pleasure from killing
(ignore the fact that slowing someone's heart wouldn't actually turn their skin blue or make them a better sniper)
The heart makes tremors throughout the body that aren't that noticeable until you're trying to hold yourself very still.
however, she does remember her life before Talon and remember her husband Gerard
and Talon does give her enough autonomy to take her own missions, visit her husband's grave and move into her own house and remodel it
so they must be confident in her conditioning
Château Guillard is located near Annecy in southeastern France. For hundreds of years, it was the estate of the influential Guillard family, until it gradually fell into disrepair after the family’s power waned in the decades after the French Revolution. Recently, the château has found a new owner: the Talon agent Widowmaker, who has returned to her family’s ancestral home.
Where'd you find that? Character profile?
the patch notes when Chateau Guillard was added to the game
Ah ok. Never knew that. Interesting...
fun fact: when she traveled to Monaco in the comic "Masquerade", she travelled under the pseudonym Danielle Guillard
Bwahaha nice.
Saved.
Nothing like buffing up knowledge. Now Doc, got a question for you.
tru
they even got the airport codes right - Charles De Gaulle Airport in Paris to Nice Côte d'Azure Airport in Nice
What're your theories on the mystery omnic at the end of storm rising? I saw people were theorizing that he's the leader of Null Sector, which I find to be likely.
almost certainly the leader/a leader of Null Sector
I want to believe there's a God program involved.
also likely to be a playable hero at some point
But GPs are monitored by Helix, so I find it unlikely.
I don't think "god programs" will be relevant again
Hope they are. Lots of fun OW can have with it.
the community has made them into more than they are
How so?
A: "God program" is more of a colloquial term describing Anubis than a designation for a class of AIs.
this answer was given by former writer Michael Chu (the link is no longer available, since this was on the old forums)
God programs are not nearly as important as people think they are
Dude, that suuuuucks. If it was a class of AI the amount of fun writers could have...
I've seen people think Athena was a god program, even after we learned about her creation
It wouldnt be
Matter of opinion.
Okay, why do you think it would be cool
Athena is an AI made by Dr. Mina Liao
Its name is Athena like the Greek god and it's really smart.
It's not uh,
Very complex.
Would be fitting if they had made Athena a god program, fits into the god program thing they did. Anubis, Athena.
they're just names
Yeah.
an orisha is a Yoruban protector spirit, doesn't mean Orisa is a god
Alright, off to read and play Overwatch.
Fair enough.
@peak escarp Oi,
any other books I should read? I'm gonna try to listen to Hero of Numbani, catch up on that Mercy one. Is there anything else?
there's 4 short stories:
Bastet
What You Left Behind
Valkyrie

I read Bastet and Stone by Stone. What's What You Left Behind?
Gotcha, tyyy.
My man with the hook ups!
here's my database of all the lore articles, tweets, comics, shorts, short stories, etc.
The best way to do it.
Bound to forget/lose something if you don't organize your findings.
Oh, one more question before I'm actually off this time.
!!wiki
For more information about the game, please refer to the wiki: https://overwatch.gamepedia.com/
Use this wiki
The sharpshooters. Hanzo, Widow, McCree, Ashe, anyone else I'm forgetting. Rank them from who you think is the #1 most accurate sharpshooter to least.
Just want opinions.
Gracias
Ana
best to worst: Ana (at her peak), Widowmaker, Ana (currently), McCree, Ashe, Hanzo
Agreeable.
I'm gonna say widow at best personally because we see her really strategic shot lineup (Collat) on tracer's accelerator and mondatta, while Ana in one of the comics just makes a shot between two walls and is like "Maybe the hardest shot I've ever made"
Tbf it looked very hard but for her long career for that to be the hardest shot she makes while widow has an equally difficult shot we can see being made, I just have to go with widow
I think it'd be cool in Deadlock Rebels to have a training session between McCree and Ashe and he's hitting more targets than her because he, "Always was the better shot."
Reinhardt, Widow, Ana, mcree, Ashe, hanzo
she doesn't just make a shot between two walls, she ricochets it off the wall
because Ana hesitates
So
But that means She’s worse than widow because widow didn’t hesitate
True
Ana still had better aim, she just chose not to use it
I guess we just have to agree to disagree
I've watched all the shorts and a lot of the cool stuff I see discussed in this channel wasn't in them. I'm aware of the tracer comics. What else am I missing?
!!lore comics
hm
you can find the comics here
there's also 4 short stories and 1 novel
if you want to find everything, here's my database
whoa, awesome! thank you!
Doc is our Lore Link Dealer.
I like to keep lists and be a know it all
Hahaha.
Lol
Ha, nice. How do you no so much anyway, Doc?
That's what I wanna know. I spend all my spare time researching lore, and have for, like a month, yet you still know more lore! How?
I've been studying the lore since 2017
Dang.
I find it all very interesting and want to know all there is
Yea, me too
and I want to help others learn about it
but there's a lot of ignorance in the community, people who think the lore is a meme or full of retcons
Also, I just watched dragons and noticed genjis sword has a part that looks like a switch or button.
Yeah, true.
it's probably there to keep the sword locked in the sheath when he flips
It makes sense.
It appears to have some sort of tech in it.
I don't think it's a meme. I just think people made memes from it
Or, yeah, this might be the answer too.
Yeah, possibly.
you'd be amazed at how many shitposters we get in here
Oh, I've seen it
if any of the regulars seem hostile, that's why
wait ppl meme abt lore?
YES
like the daddy 76 thing?
Yes
oh damn
"lol overwatch has lore?"
and stuff like that
bruhHhHhH
i mean 76 has it as a voice line, father 76 is kind of lore at this point ngl
Eh, maybe.
found it while reading bout him
I mean, I'm not Doc, so I don't know for sure...
the Dad 76 thing is encouraged by the devs
Ah
I say I'm playing Daddy: 76 when I play Soldier and run around healing teammates.
Wait, what does he say???
but that's not really the sort of thing I mean
people dont actually think Soldier is a dad
Eh, y'all were talking about Dad: 76
Imma let doc handle that one
im not your father
Ah
I don't know enough
Do you have any questions in particular?
I mean when some new lore comes out and the first few comments are usually
"ow has lore?"
"lol wait until this gets retconned"
Hm
just ignore them lmao
Yeah
does mercy valk have lore?
Ye, sorry abt that
valkyrie or sigrun
What do you mean?
that's weird, there's so much lore in voice lines n stuff and I'm surprised people are shocked by it
The skins?
The skin
Probably just a play on ult name
ah
her Valkyrie Suit is a combat she designed to allow her to actively heal on the battlefield
It's just a skin thing; same with Riverboat McCree or Daredevil: 76.
the valkyrie skin
They mean the skin, not the armor.
Or Grill master 76
Yeah
Same thing. Just fun
wouldve been so cool ngl
the skins are a reference to the Norse valkyries, who select the fallen from the battlefield and take them to Valhalla
Yup.
does mercy have to do anything w that
But they also prob exist as a reference to ult name.
not all skins are canon, some (like those) are just for fun
Valkyrie suit
oh
she has a lot of angelic imagery, and valkyries are often depicted as angel-like
I have work now, so I wont be able to answer any more questions until later - the other regulars are pretty helpful though
So, if junkrat made his stuff, how come it doesn't explode in his face
have fun
Aight, doc
Junkrat is a moron, but he's a savant when it comes to explosives.
Well, it did. He lost his leg, but now it doesn't. Hm
sorry if it's a dumb question but how did he lose his arm and leg? is it known?
Leg: homemade explosive. Arm: unknown
thanks mate
It’s probably to activate his dragon power
Why?
I mean ig hanzo doesnt need a switch to summon his dragons
But real swords dont need a switch to keep them in their sheaths
I noticed the button a long time ago and it reminded me of those plastic sword toys that light up when you press a button on them LMAO
real swords aren't being worn by ninjas who do backflips
they're normally held in by gravity
Actually further supporting my point his wakizashi doesnt have a button on it
I cant post pics tho
So i think genji doesnt need a button to keep his sword in place
It Probably just clicks right in or some future stuff
I have a replica of his sword where there is a button to open it.
Just his sword
Any other weapons don't have that button, be they replicas or actual sheaths.
I dont think they do tho...
Wait how do you light his sword up?
You don't.
Oh...
There is a second button on it that is non-functional.
It always looked glowing to me, huh
the replica doesn't light up
It looked like it to me
See thumbnail of the advertisement
On youtube
Nvm ig i can do this
Cmon tell me that looks like it glows
I've always liked the idea that the Shimada dragons are made from hard-light or nano tech of some sort, and that they are activated through that switch on Genji's sword, or maybe a voice command in Hanzo's case.
Yes, it’s most likely hard light. Recall how it’s stated that some ppl can use hard light differently than others, sym being an example so maybe the shimadas are the same
Ok
Jewvia you may wanna find somewhere on your sword that you can put batteries in
That button is definitely for something
Maybe it is hard light. Idk tho
hard light makes the most sense
It’s magic
it's not magic
so does hard light
The dragons behave near identically to Symmetra's hard light orbs
dragons aren't real
but-

Now that I think about it, they kind of do.
But I can also think of some differences.
The dragons are fluid, constantly moving.
And they also pass through walls and barriers; Sym's burst upon impact.
before the rework, they passed through enemies
so is reins barrier question mark?
shields are hard light too
which military range has sojourn in overwatch?
Barriers clip through walls, barriers are made of hard light
Lies
Lies
@sharp pebble Do not ping me to shitpost
!!shitposting
Shitposting will result in a loss of access.
Consider this your final warning.
Sry but What does this mean
Pls elaborate
rank idk
Here's the thing though.
If it's hard light, Symmetra would be able to use them, right? But it says in the short "only a Shimada can control the dragons."
It can't be just hard light.
Some ppl can use hard light in ways that others cant
The dragons must be a special way of utilizing hard light as well
Hmm. Do you think it has something to do with the tattoos? Like. Connected to the tattoo somehow?
Injected nano tech?
Maybe the ink was infused with it?
Idk about Genji then though
nothing says Symmetra can manipulate all hard light
the dragons are probably just a family secret, closely guarded
or Hanzo was just being extra
echo can control them yk
he prolly being extra
Maybe he was extra. Altho both Shimadas seem to be very to the point.
Ha
Hanzo is so dramatic that he got an undercut and piercings for his midlife crisis at age 38
I just realized that roadhog doesn't have a Australian accent
he has a very slight one
barely noticable because he doesn't talk much
but you can hear it on some of his slang lines, like "sweet as"
wot is a nano
nano boost, Ana's ult, not part of lore
that's a very good guess
the hard light being connected to his tattoos, after all we see the dragons coming out of them
Someone once said me that the dragons cant be hardlight coz they're solid, and not something that can pass through walls easily
They literally pass through Hanzo in Dragons
They're not solid
And even then, that argument makes no sense
We have seen hard light in the form of:
- Fluid beams
- Semi-solid barriers and orbs
- Solid Constructs and Buildings
True. The dragons may be hard light. Maybe not tho
Lol. Hanzo the Drama King
It is magic
Overwatch has no magic
Clarke's third law states that, "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic."
It may seem like magic to us, but it's actually just some really advanced tech.
No magic. All tech. A lot of ults look like magic, but definitely are not
Hey, doc, I've got a question for you. Where does reaper get new shotguns from?
reaper has a little rat on his back that hands him shotguns (joke)
that is a good question though,, never really thought about it too hard
The short real answer is we don't know
The longer one is that he might be regenerating them the same way he does his body
and the ones he throws out disappear and get reabsorbed
i assume he just has extras in his coat
i doubt he goes through as many as he does in game
Still magic
If you're not here to actually discuss lore I suggest going to a different channel
I have a theory for Reaper's shotguns.
I suggest that, as he's able to turn into a wraith(if I remember correctly, this isn't just in-game, but is also how he escapes Soldier and Ana).
He has a pocket dimension-type thing.
But not the same thing.
I've heard the theory that he regenerates them as well, but wtf is he shooting then? Is anyone sure how that would work?
He also has a spray called, "Psst" where he's holding his cloak open and a few shotguns are visible, so that's another possible explanation.
very true, but that's more of comedy than lore i think, can you see his guns hidden in his cloak at all?
Yeah, I figured that.
Think it's more of a joke.
still a possibility though
The guns probably generate from his smoke stuff, and turn back into smoke after he throws them on the ground
It's suggested he can dematerialize/rematerialize himself. On the wiki, I'm pretty sure it says his body is in a constant state of decay and regen. I'll go take a look real quick
That’s magic
It does.
Ye
It's due to Moira's experimentation on him.
He dematerializes a portion of his body which converts into black mist, that's how he got away. I feel like a pocket dimension is a little out there.
where's the meme roo
m
But if his guns generate from the smoke, and the smoke is a side effect of his body decaying and regenerating, would that mean his guns are part of his body?
Ooo
His clothes also turn into smoke.
Yes, it's implied. The exact science of it is weird.
Perhaps they are modified?
His guns don't actually become smoke though, in game they just despawn.
In-game isn’t canon though
True enough, but we get plenty of lore friendly content,
But doesn't he turn to smoke in the comic where he fights Ana and Soldier?
I need to go look.
like the archives events which are, to my opinion, canon.
About the thing where his clothes can turn into smoke; if the smoke is a part of him, and his clothes are made of it, would that make him naked?
If they wanted to include a despawn-in-smoke feature, I'm sure they would have. Maybe we can see that feature be implemented in OW2. Also, in the cinematics, I don't think his guns turn to smoke either.
Would it still count as naked if the body underneath dematerialized into smoke as well?
If his body disappears and the clothes disappear with it, the clothes must be a part of his body like the smoke and the guns, and if what we think of as his clothes are just a part of him, then he would be naked.
Am I able to post an image address?
True enough.
Do we ever see the guns after he drops them in the cinematics, or does he just have new ones later
Not 100% sure. I know we see him drop them and remove completely new ones just like he does in game, but as for seeing the guns on the floor, not sure. Would have to rewatch, though I wouldn't count on seeing them.
Common theme in high class animations is discarding objects. Example, character in pixar movie drops his bag on the floor. Engages in conversation. Camera change in the next scene, the bag is no longer there or has been moved.
Shitty example but it's enough to get the point across.
We can really only guess about what happens to them, but I feel like it would fit with his abilities if they turned back into smoke when he was done with them
Also the guns are very large, and that coat doesn’t look like it would be big enough to hold any, let alone numerous copies
would reapers new emote where he has different types of guns affect this at all?
Agreed
Agreed
They're not different, they're just resized shotguns of his.
ah my bad
The emote isn’t necessarily canon, but it seems to imply that he makes the guns on the spot, since it looks like he makes a mistake with the size the first few times
You're good
The emote almost looks likes he's looking for the correct sized gun
More of a goofy funny emote than anything canonical, just like when the cartoon villain is pulling out different items/weapons from behind him to find the right one.
He gets disappointed with each size until he finds those big (default sized) shotguns.
To me it looked more like he was trying to get the big ones, but he made them the wrong size. It kind of fits with the making them from smoke idea because he wouldn’t just carry multiple sizes of guns, but he might get small ones if he made a mistake while creating them.
ah yeah, y'all are probably right. Just didn't know how it would fit into theories and if it even is canon
I hope we get a peek at how he gets/makes/stores them in a future comic, short story, or even a cutscene in Overwatch 2.
I still think it would have been funnier if he pulled out another hero's gun
Or maybe that grenade launcher we see in the announcement trailer and then never hear about again.
grenade launcher??
He shoots Winston with a grenade launcher in the trailer where it's him and Widowmaker trying to steal the Doomfist Gauntlet.
oh, I've never noticed that
well I guess that's just another excuse to watch it again
lol imagine the look in everybody's face
It’s like dvas or something
that would have been great
That'd be really funny.
He just pulls out one of her mech's arms and shakes his head and rolls his eyes.
Yes
No it's not! There is no magic
They're trolling, just leave it be.
We're saying it'd be more funny if he did that for the emote.
Doc started it.
Touche
It was related to the reaper lore we were talking about
At least the emote part
That's a very childish argument.
Like junkrats pachimari emote. Just funny
I k.
That reminds me.
Is Pachimari supposed to be an onion with octopus tentacles?
'Cause that's what it looks like to me.
Yes
Or is it a creature from some mythology?
Ah, okay.
It's an in-game fictional creature
Alrighty then, thanks!
Np
Also did anyone else notice that the junk rat pachimari emote is a commen?
yes
Did blizzard say why
we should have more symmetra lore
I agree

we need more lore for all heroes
Mercy has plenty of lore
Symmetra has a fair amount
Mercy has Valkyrie and was in Uprising and Storm Rising
Symmetra has A Better World and Stone By Stone
the hero with the least lore is Sigma
Zenyatta was in Stone By Stone
I see I see
and will be featured in the OW2 story
Sigma hasn't appeared in anything outside of his origin trailer, which didn't tell us much
trutru
will we get sigma lore in ow2?
maybe
Hopefully
what if they nerf bob and make him a character
or we got more bob backstory
either or
Bob's backstory is he's Ashe's butler/caretaker.
we'll get more Bob backstory in Deadlock Rebels
Also, we'll probably learn more about him in Deadlock Rebels.
Aaaaand Doc beat me to it.
okay so
ive been off the server and Overwatch for a while
mind explainin what that is?
pog
When Ashe is arrested yet again on the morning of her high school graduation, her aloof, old-money parents decide to disinherit her from the family fortune. To steal back what''s rightfully hers, Ashe teams up with her omnic butler, B.O.B., and local ruffian Jesse McCree for a series of heists, catapulting the trio into a game of fast money and dangerous alliances. Along the way, Ashe discovers that family isn''t just about blood. It''s about the people who''ve got your back when your back''s against the wall.
Full of high-octane chases and action-packed stand-offs, the second novel for Overwatch explores the founding of the Deadlock Gang and the origins of fan-favorite heroes Ashe and McCree. Don''t miss this incredible, original story straight from the Overwatch game team and critically acclaimed author Lyndsay Ely.```
so what was the objective of mei and her team by freezing
themselves
what they exactly wanted doing it?
there was a storm and they had low supplies, so they were going to hibernate to wait out the storm and wait for new supplies to be delivered
but the storm didn't let up and the supplies never came, so they never got woken up
So what happened to her colleagues then? Like, how did mei get woken up but not them? I've totally forgotten at this point lol
the cryochambers failed and they died
Mei's would have failed eventually, but Winston's recall woke her up before it did
they didn't all fail at the same time, they broke one by one
is there a summary of the novels?
The Hero of Numbani, by Nicky Drayden
oh ok
here's the first chapter as a preview
thank you
So mei just got lucky?
pretty much
Waw
it could have been any one of them to survive, or none at all if every chamber failed before Winston sent his message
Hm
Winston saved a life with the are u with us msg. I don't think he saw that coming!
Where's McCree during Zero Hour?
I've wondered for a while
in the behind the scenes panel we saw that he heads to Toronto to find Sojourn
So will he be in the Toronto mission in ow2?
I also thought Mercy didn't approve of overwatch and the recall. Therefore why did she come to paris?
she got some words of encouragement from Ana in "Valkyrie"

Theory: Winston is tracers son?
no her brodah
No her boyfriend
Nah all the lore goes to show

Naw you thinking of reaper and soldier
no
oK
i saw on quickplay when i bastion monke save little man with turret lifee on car payload
You may have heard that Reinhardt is responsible for saving my life. I've heard the story at least four different times myself, already, each time more unbelievable than the last. Exaggerations, as you know how he can be. All the same, they've decided to award him a commendation for "conspicuous bravery." Could two words better describe the big oaf?
monke save little man with turret life!!!!!
🤠
this is not the place to discuss gameplay
this channel is for serious lore discussion

Yeah guys
ye but me get a kill as batiom

I don't care

YES YOU DO!

they funnee
Gengi x Mercy was pretty much confirmed at Blizzcon Online. So that means other ships like Rein x Ana or Mei x Roadhog could be possible. But then again if they allowed them to ship Mercy x Pharah it would be pedophilia because Mercy changes her looks despite her real age. Same with Gengi he looks younger than he truly is. If you need more proof Mercy gave Gengi that thicc butt
...what
🤔

She doesn’t?
no
Genji x Mercy wasn't confirmed, and even if it ends up true it was hinted at for years
Well frick
she's 37, he's 35
Rein x Ana wasn't, and Mei never met Roadhog
Check your facts before posting smh
WELL FRICK
and Pharah is 32
I have several questions
its just some people wanting it to happen
oK boomer
Theories are backed up by facts

Zeus in the sky and that?
is hanzos father alive? do we know anything about him? his parents?
He's dead
I am not sure ask in #lore-discussion
we know his name was Sojiro, and he narrated Dragons
oh damn
🧢
Oooo
His death is what ultimately caused the clan's downfall
wb his mother
Since after that the other elders told Hanzo to kill Genji
we don't know much about the mother
So Hanzo's father is dead and his mother is unknown for now?
Oh
His father's death was what led to the conflict between the brothers
So is there a why as to the slipstream malfunction?
we don't know
Oh
it was an experimental prototype, they probably hadn't figured out all the bugs yet
Just gameplay, actually idk probably has to charge bc tracer isnt abusing it as much as possible
it does require charging
Ok
And it keeps her in the right time as long as it's near rite?
Do you mean charge like a phone or charge as in cooldowns between usage
Both
Ok thanks
Do you know if it has to cooldown though
based on the guage with 3 sections, I would think that it needs 1 section full to blink, 2 sections full to recall, but that's just a guess
How's that supposed to work
she has a dock for it in places she stays regularly, like Emily's apartment and Watchpoint Gibraltar
Ah, ok.
I would guess that the dock boosts the range to cover the whole living space
Wait im actually kinda curious, does tracer have to wait for cooldowns between blinking?
Yes, according to doc's theory
she doesn't seem to
At least for a charge
in Alive she blinks several times without waiting between them
Okay
True
But it does do a closeup on the accelerator doing something when she gets mad at widow. What's that about
If tracer doesnt need to move herself but is automatically teleported by her accelerator why doesnt she just equip super heavy weaponry :/
So she gets tired herself?
I would assume
She's not a machine
but she's probably in really good shape from running around a lot
That...kinda sucks
She is human
she's a sprinter
Well then what’s the point of blinking in the streets of london then
Nvm probably to get home quicker
She is a SPRINTER. Short distance runner
in Reflections, she was trying to get to the shops before they closed
and trying to stop a thief
But that begs the question: why use a hoverbike in storm rising
That...didn’t answer my question
Good point why did she
Sprinters are not made for stamina or running long distances.
Actually, somewhere it says she got a bike and wanted to go faster, right doc
I was asking why she was blinking in her casual life, when she still gets exhausted normally
blinking would have taken too much energy
she's fast but not that fast
Ah, ok
What?
with blinks, she'd get exhausted at the same speed but is able to cover far more distance than running normally
That's what I mean^
