Idk if he was imagining I viewed it as a certain way the authors wanted to portray the gang
we don't know if he actually saw them that way
I viewed it as the authors wanted to create a likeness between knights of old tales battling dragons and Reinhardt and the dragon gang was a modern representation of it
he was also forced to retire for reasons unknown
but the dialogue in Storm Rising hinted that it was tragic
Mercy: Only a little. He's taking it all very hard.
Tracer: I miss having him around...
Mercy: You should talk to him. I think he'd like the company.```
Yeah that’s interesting
Wasn’t Mercy one of the people trying to push him out though?
no? why would she?
Actually yeah that doesn’t make sense since they’re probably close friends outside of overwatch and with the Lindholms
Nvm
Is it ever mentioned who in Overwatch pushed him out?
not specifically
just "Overwatch"
probably meaning the executives/directors who ran it
the people Jack and Ana answered to
Ah ok
Director Petras is probably one of them
Doc
yes?
For Reinhardt I always thought of it as he didn’t approve of what overwatch had become, so he left under the guise of forced retirement because he didn’t want the dishonor of having people think he quit.
And the dragons just seem like a metaphor.
Same
he doesn't seem like the type to leave over that
also if he left on his own, the other heroes wouldn't treat it like something tragic and shameful
Didn't torbjorn apparently rant to Brigitte about Reinhardt's "retirement," implying it wasn't fair? That's what the wiki says
But they wouldn't know it was his decision. He could've spoken to someone higher up about wanting to leave, and gotten them to say it was a forced retirement.
then he wouldn't think of Overwatch so highly, and wouldn't be one of the first ones to go back
But he would’ve seen that they’re under different leadership, and therefore probably doing different things.
all he saw was Winston's message
there isn't any leadership
Reinhardt went back because he believed in Overwatch
there's no reason to think he retired voluntarily when we've been told that he was forced to retire from multiple sources
Reinhardt is definitely someone who would stay till the bitter end, the whole "live with honor, die with glory" thing, I find it hard to believe he would actively choose to quit overwatch, and if he did he would retire honorably. If I'm remembering correctly multiple members were already telling him to hang it up before he was discharged, which indicates to me he could have retired at any point if he so chose.
Furthermore it's more disgraceful to be forcefully discharged than it is to quit or retire, at least in my eyes
U got me confused here
Not sure where to place it but I'm gonna place it here since it's about the background of one character, technically lore
I love how lowkey Blizz was about Sym’s autism
It’s obviously an integral part of her character, but they don’t make it into a bad (or good) thing
Yes, that is what I said
They didn’t use the ‘functioning’ labels either, which was great because obviously she’s gonna be classified as higher-functioning to NT people but they just said autism
Which is a lot better imo because it really leaves her open to be a role model to all autistic people instead of just a specific group within the spectrum
they've handled it well
Yeah absolutely
Whether it be just because they wanted to leave it up for interpretation or because they felt like being specific would cause liability issues,,, it's great representation
zenyatta is the goat thank you that is all
he's not a goat he's an omnic
Omnics can be goats too 😤
But fr I know he's gonna be the figure tying all the lore together
You didn't have to do him like that
next thing I know you'll be telling me sig's toes aren't hot
Zenyatta is a peacekeeping figure and the issue in OW world rn isn't power strictly, it's the relationships between characters and groups
Don't ping me to shitpost.
Talon seems to be after Zenyatta for some reason
Oy that was just a joke and it was a reply to something you said 10 seconds ago chill
but he's not important in the Overwatch vs. Null Sector fight
I would argue that Zen has the potential to be very important in future lore
But to say that he isn't important at all seems eh
Yh ^
The whole aurora thing made it seem like he could be important in linking to omnics, and eventually resolution is gonna require peace to be made between humans and omnics
It would probly be more fitting for zen to play a role in that than for like soldier and the rest of overwatch to just violently beat them into submission
anyone has the potential to be important to future lore
Junkrats treasure is actually 50 nukes, new most important character
!!shitposting @nimble furnace
@nimble furnace Shitposting will result in a loss of access.
Final warning
Or like is roadhog gonna be important?
Sorry bud
Well yes of course but like 👁️👁️ he's someone that really does considering we know like
Nothing about his metal ass lul
we know he was a high-ranking shambali priest
Stone By Stone: https://bit.ly/36EsPul
We learn some about him here
we know he left because he disagreed with Mondatta's approach to reaching out to people
we know he has a good sense of humor
'Nothing' didn't mean literally nothing, y’know haha
This is strange to know though
Yeah sure but using hog again I think we know more about zen than hog
you can see it in his emotes and voice lines
Ah I know
And that doesn't really make you think Hog is about to be a defining figure
It's just weird to think about it that way lul
Hog is...
Hog.
I can't imagine Hog being important in any way really
He's just there
Hog is just an accessory to Junkrat's story - if Rat becomes important, Hog will follow
That's why he's gonna be the most important, writers bouta throws us a curveball
Ever since someone in this chat said that Hog didn't actually like Rat, I've never had any hope for his character 🥲
I think hog at least shows junkrat is being honest about the treasure because we know otherwise he would probably not stick around
Plus hog has said either he likes junk or that junk reminds him of someone? Idk which.
I really can't blame him
Junk seems like he would be annoying to be around
he thinks the world deserves people like him and Junk, for being such a rotten place
!!shitposting

ight bro
what a snitch
someone hurt this reddit users feelings about a video game lore
this is a serious discussion channel
imagine only being silver
i posted about unrelease winston and athena (kitten/them) manga
i been in the server for 5 minutes and a higher rank dont you !shitpost me
this channel is also for gold and up
5 year old game still silver 🤪
silver?
like I said, nobody cares about your rank
and if you continue to shitpost, you will be removed
by you?
no
Since mccree used to work for blackwatch and sombra is currently in Talon, do we think they met up and are working together?
Sombra is seen in a bar with mccree in reflections and they both seem like major players, vigilantes, and sombra isn't really shown to be good or evil, so it could definitely work but idk if there's enough evidence to really think it's true.
there's some suggestion that they might be working together (how else would McCree find out which train Echo would be shipped on and get the manifest?), but nothing confirmed
Sombras main goal is to find out who runs the world yes? If so, what use would she have with McCree - like why is she so interested in him and his potential real name
she doesn't seem that interested in him
She could have plenty of uses for him though, OW insider, muscle, just a friend? She does have friends or personal connections we saw in "Searching"
"My name isn't Joel" is a reference to the name they used for McCree during development
She asks Ashe about him, and ask him about his real name
He would definitely have a reason to work with sombra
There is a dialogue with Ashe and Sombra yes?
and like I said, they might be working together, in which case she would want dirt on him to use against him if the need arises
not to be mean to McCree but he isn't exactly a very remarkable character
that works to his advantage
people underestimate him
but he's smart, and trained by some of the best
gudday
second, this is a serious discussion channel
for shitposting
why does everyone keep calling me silver?
look at your roles
I don't even play ranked
This is top tier shitposting right here
Im silver for some reason too
Meanwhile I mention junk will only be relevant if his treasure turns out to be nukes and get warned for shitposting
Yh I'm bronze even though i very clearly put it as gold
Twice
no it isn't
I shouldn't have even bothered trying to get the rank role
they're meaningless anyway
his secret isn't likely to be a weapon or even treasure
Yeah ik
I think it's something to do with why the omniums woke back up, or how the omnics gained sentience
I was just saying he's irrevelant pretty much which doesn't warrant a warn?
Since that was literally the topic at the time
it's not what you said, just how you said it
Yeah poor delivery of an opinion on lore is apparently illegal
whatever tho
we take the [serious] tag seriously
was Baptiste's friend from talon ever unconfirmed as a character?
Which friend?
Mauga?
yes
Mauga wasn't his friend tho
oh sorry
he was supposed to be hero 31, but we got Sigma instead
the devs do want to still use Mauga though
Yeah I doubt he's released any time soon he seems more likely to be a playable boss or something in OW2
he seems like he would be fun at parties
When I say playable I mean fightable lol
idk man
I think Mauga will be a playable hero eventually
ok, good I owe someone some backstreet sloppy if he isn't
Dang tmi
it's the lore, therefor it's relevent
the details are unnecessary
Your wager isn't lore of OW bro
"this guy" you have no idea who ur talking to
it wasn't a wager, there was no money involved
nobody cares who you are
So anyways did anybody find what the box mccree through off of the train we see in route 66 was?
I assume ash got it but that looked way different from what echo ended up being in
it hasn't come up again
Talon probably got it
There was a voice that was like "Mccree, is that you? If you something I'll something"
a talon member or a reddit lucio probably got to it
idk what exactly
Coming from an omnic and it seems very in character for ashe plus it's somebody who knows him, and we know ashe has the wealth to do so and employs omnics in her gang
Oh not an omnic a guy in a silver mask okie dokie
wait, that's not ant-man?
Wrong superhero universe bud
The box hasn't and likely won't ever come up again
Also the reason everyone has silver and bronze as ranks is because of the new rank system in this server
It's either bugging or more likely this is an april fools gag
that makes sense
Probably changed the names of all the roles to silver or bronze if I had to wager
i think he used to be
also yes the role system is an april fool’s thing, if u put in bronze ya get wood rank lul
They used to be, it seems clear to me.
In, "What You Left Behind," it's said that when Mauga got angry, Baptiste was the only one who could calm him down. Also, Mauga let Baptiste get away from Talon. He treats Baptiste like an old friend, granted, also like an enemy. He's kind of passive aggressive(?) if you'd like.
I think Mauga is a lot like McCree in some ways.
They both seem to be fools/idiots but are both really smart and not to be underestimated.
But I really want more Mauga and Baptiste lore.
I want to see how they play into the main story, as well.
Perhaps Baptiste meets up with some Overwatch members and gets, like, recruited?
Or he becomes a vigilante and covertly fights against Talon, somewhat like Soldier or Ana?
I have a question, though, for y'all.
A friend and I were discussing the other night about Ana's husband.
If I remember correctly in one of the comics one of the panels is Ana having a dinner with her husband.
But my friend made a point about how Ana probably didn't reveal herself to her husband yet and that moment was before her injury.
(It's been a while since I read the comics, and I don't remember which one it was.)
Yep
The panel in Reflections is Pharah having a dinner with him, not Ana
and it's set in present day
It's Pharah?
Okay, thanks.
Like I said, it's been a while since I read it.
!!shitposting @modern anvil
@modern anvil Shitposting will result in a loss of access.
I mean mauga likes bap but would bap even hesitate to kill mauga? Nah he's not the biggest fan of the guy
but Baptiste did hesitate to kill Mauga
Yeah you have that backwards
Mauga likes Baptiste, but wouldn't hesitate to kill him.
Baptiste isn't the biggest fan of Mauga AND would hesitate to kill him.
Baptiste was friendly with Mauga because otherwise Mauga could kill him
ocean breeze blew through his hair and he grinned that wide, wide grin. “Finally come to your senses, buddy?”
“Not really,” said Baptiste, whipping his rifle out from behind the shipping container. He threw the disc into
the air and unloaded his clip into the fusion-energy charging station beside Mauga.
The resulting explosion shattered the air. The middle of the pier was blown into the air, chunks of concrete
raining into the bay. Some crashed into the decks of nearby boats, capsizing them. Seagulls scattered
overhead, shrieking.```
Baptiste could have aimed for Mauga directly, but instead he blew up the charging station
So theoretically Baptiste could've killed mauga with a single bullet to the face?
It's weird to think of the guns not doing like 20 dmg and just instantly ending lives
that's how guns work
Do you think mauga would've been able to do anything to prevent getting shot in the face?
Shot faster
He does have a shield of some kind right, is it like reins or more physical?
Most likely hardlight like the other tanks
Mmm
there was no way to fix mondatta? well he a robot
unless that bullet hit him memories
why do you assume all robots can be rebuilt?
that OR15 wasn't killed, just decommissioned
oh i see
Mondatta was shot through the head, presumeably destroying his core processor/memory
how do yall feel about mauga
he's alright
Seems pretty wild
That's close
Basically that but more terrifying looking
Also he may look different after being blown halfway to hell
On the "That's how guns work" thing an explosion would do more damage than the bullet, remember this is still the ow universe not the real world
(Bap threw a frickin disc in the air to escape death)
I think saying that the explosion was doing mauga a favor is a bit of a stretch
With cybernetic enhancements and the like, because mauga is very clearly shown based on size and strength to not be a normal human, a bullet would very possibly not have killed him and bap shows no hesitation in the passage, they even use words like, "whipping"
it was more likely for Mauga to survive an explosion than a shot to the head
I don't think the words used are any indicator of intent
also, a page later:
I mean there are no indicators of intent otherwise except using the explosion
Mauga, he was probably still alive. Maybe it was unwise, but Baptiste secretly hoped that he was.```
Ok that is more relevant but y'know baptiste doesn't like killing people? He kills a lot and his conscience was the whole reason he left talon. Yes ik he killed the rest of his squad but he was closer with mauga than them.
yes he was closer to Mauga
that's why he hesitated
they were friends at one point
so saying "he wouldn't hesitate to kill Mauga" is incorrect when we've already seen him hesitate to kill Mauga
But he didn't thoo that was litrally in the passage we just talked about
He literally had 0 hesitation to blow mauga up like wtf
The logic is so flimsy that "A bullet would have been more effective so an explosion clearly shows hesitation?" I just don't get that
he was backed into a corner, and chose an option that would likely leave Mauga hurt but alive
he spent a long time trying to talk to Mauga before taking this option - that shows a hesitance to kill someone who was once a friend
That's under the assumption that
a) A bullet is more effective than the explosion
b) Bap was thinking from a logical perspective
c) The writers didn't just I don't know, think an explosion and using the immortality field was more cool and fitting than just shooting Mauga between the eyes?
I might have to reread the leadup but in the end it won't matter because Mauga is very clearly incompatible with bap, the dude is ridiculously bloodthirsty and that's in direct conflict with bap's heart/conscience
the point remains that they were friends once, and Baptiste tried other alternatives before resorting to harming him
Baptiste isn't the type to just kill people without trying alternatives
This, exactly what I started with
I mean mauga likes bap but would bap even hesitate to kill mauga? Nah he's not the biggest fan of the guy
It's baps character not to kill people in cold blood, his consience prevents it and that would be the case whether mauga or anybody else was standing there
Ok not started with but said earlier
And he DIDN'T
Trying to end the discussion smh because I'm sure you can at least agree this is completely inconsequential
you make it sound like Baptiste would just shoot Mauga without talking, without trying to find a way to avoid it
In context I was just saying bap doesn't have any special liking for mauga
I said he doesn't because if he did he would hesitate to kill mauga, we discussed that and ended up saying that while there may have been some reluctance to kill, but not injure, it was because of bap's conscience and I concluded that that would be the same whether it was mauga or anybody else confronting him.
I feel like we've talked up so many points over and over and you're either ignoring or forgetting what I've said and we really don't need to be doing this for so long because this is the tiniest, most opinion based thing: There's clearly no evidence in the lore that really supports either of us. I'mma dip after this, I'll read what you have to say but I'm not saying anything more so we can be done with this.
I just don't understand what point you are trying to make
and almost everything we discuss here is inconsequential and/or opinion based - that's pretty much what this channel is for
and there is evidence to support that Mauga and Baptiste were once friends, and that friendship is what kept Baptiste from taking a more aggressive action against his former friend
smh people need to learn how to have proper discussions and not quit because things aren't going their way
hey so
was playing a few games today and i killed doom fist with D.va and like
she said "Thats for my dad!"
like wtf when was that added
I don't think that's what she said
i swear thats what she said
it's easy to mishear things
well anyways ty!
That's why you gotta turn on subtitles bro 😭
subtitles are great
THERES SUBTITLES??????
yep
there's different levels too
I go with Critical Gameplay + Conversations to hear all the juicy lore
it's great during Archives when there's more chatter to hear
fuckin love the lore for this game man
only makes it so much more :/ when bliz/activation sucks the life out of it with there dumb shit
but thats not the point rn
i just love the lore so much
i want Zen lore
so baddly
and bap
swear to god if we dont get a Zen boss fight where genji can only melee

oh my gosh waittttttt
imagen the interactions with orisa n bastion
PLZ
I need efi
she neeeeeeeds screen time
they're adding NPCs, maybe Efi will make an appearance
well we didnt got news last month
hope april we getting news
about lore and other stuff
You wont
That sounds silly.
Taking the Team and Shooter out of the Team-Based First Person Shooter does not sound fun.
Dragon blade
Like I said
we did see a scene were Genji and Zen face off against Widow and Sombra (and a bunch of Talon goons)

true
For the record that's not quitting we weren't even having an argument. That was a circular cat fight where we each ignored the other and kept restating opinions. Also it was 11:00 my time so I had to get sleep. Don't appreciate the need to add insult at the end.
You were restating like
Three different opinions by yourself
Yes.
I wasn't ignoring you, I was trying to figure out your point and why you were ignoring the facts
I agree, mostly because of my hearing difficulty but catching bits of pregame banter that pertains to the plot is also very nice
I have good hearing, but I still put subtitles on in every game I play
I wish they were actually available in more games
Some have them and some don't :/
yeah
they are more common now due to increased awareness of accessibility needs, but on older games it's a toss up
How many members of overwatch were there before it fell?
It was an international organisation, there are probably thousands of members we don't know about.
Some more important than others obviously.
Do you guys think that sigma is evil
no
no
Sigma is just being used, he's not evil
Yes
Sigma is a cute little child. He can’t wear socks or shoes, he doesn’t know Talon is using him and he doesn’t know how to install Shazam
he can wear socks and shoes, he just chooses not to
and Shazam won't work for a melody that doesn't exist
He's a rebel
I have been shut up
@limpid agate did you say Zen lore will be featured in ow2?
Yes
But ow2 is in 1 year
He will be in the India mission
:c
Until then, you can read Stone By Stone
Thank you
Avatar puppet :0 such a classic
ganymede=bird who nested on bastion
bob=butler of ash's fam and her friend
idk the exact story but bob was a big part of her life
Yeah, I believe bob essentially raised ashe...
I love how Bob is Ashe’s father figure
Yup. Kinda odd, but even stranger that a butler has automatic cannons
It’s his defense mechanism
His strength isn’t enough
Also he lives in America
Btw I don’t know which Ashe skin I should get. Little Red Ashe or Socialist Ashe
I know it’s off topic but I don’t see any Q&A chat
Idek on that
his cannons might be a Deadlock mod
Either that or he was a bodyguard as well as butler
Bodybutler
the novel should give us more detail on Bob
he got augments after ashe became a gangster
they're not gonna add killer weapons on a butler
mccree states in the cinematic, "guess bob got some new upgrades"
Remember the Pachimari event with Roadhog and there were those little onion plushies?
Were they in the game before the event?
Also the event was about 2 weeks agi, roughly
Ago*
I think what happened was he WAS a butler and was with her her entire life; including birth. But I think Ashe's parents died or went missing, and he kind of took initiative to take care of her. I could be wrong but that's my take
Ashe's parents ignored her
Ohh
they are busy business types who had no time to look after their daughter
they bought her stuff and probably loved her in their own way, but they were never there for her
Bob was
busy commiting homocide and grand theft auto
Born into a wealthy family, Ashe grew up surrounded by privilege. Her parents were highly sought-after business consultants and coaches for powerful CEOs around the world. Though her parents paid little attention to her (mostly leaving her in the care of the family’s omnic butler, Bob), they ensured that Ashe had every opportunity to succeed. But a chance meeting with a local ruffian, named Jesse McCree, and an impromptu string of crimes committed together opened her eyes to her true calling. The satisfaction of outwitting her targets and the thrill of getting away with it set her on the outlaw path.
like he looked after him and then they commit crimes together lmao
So in the reveal trailer McRee stole Echo sorta, and Ashe wasn't happy
And they're not enemies
Ah
he joined up with Overwatch (working with "the law" is against Ashe's rules)
McCree hasn't gone back yet after rescuing Echo
Only really Mercy Winston Tracer and stuff
it seems like he heads to Canada to meet with Sojourn
and that's where we see him in OW2
Yeah
she led the Storm Rising mission
who can forget her double thicc thighs
i wonder, we see her sliding on the ground, I guess it's for her abilities :/
look at those pillars she got for legs
she seems more like Soldier than either of them
I hope for more zen lore before ow2 tbh
She has nothing to do with either of those characters
OMG me too
Zen isnt important enough to get anything more before OW2
We have why he is in India
From Stone By Stone
There is nothing more they can tell us that's relevant to the present.
I mean, there are characters who are important to overwatch backstory (ex. Ana, Reaper, Soldier, etc). And there are those who aren't as important like Zen. It's sad, yeah, I want juicy lore fore everyone, but some just don't have the lore.
Its such a shame that comic book was cancelled!
which one?
I believe there was an entire story that was cancelled because they wanted to change the entire plot
It was with like a robot and a girl as the main focus
That was 5 years ago
Ye
First Strike
I just think that majorly impacted the scheduling for lore
And why things felt nonexistent for a while
If it did release, a significant majority of what we have now wouldn't be how it is
Most notably, Echo and Brigitte.
Yeah I guess but Idk maybe it couldve been better
Some other things could not exist in a First Strike world, like Honor and Glory.
Different could be better or worse.
But no doubt if they committed to the comic there would be more lore up to this point
As it is, it doesn't change anything I would consider bad.
So I don't consider it a shame.
The bigger thing that killed the lore would have been the Comic Anthology
Shortly after vol 1 released to abysmal sales
They stopped making comics
:v I think it's a shame they dedicated time and energy from a lot of people and canned it. Doesn't make the overwatch we have now bad but yeah I just still feel bad about it
we've gotten plenty of lore since they decided to change directions
Yeah it's been 5 years, they better have lol
The Anthology Vol 1 released in October 2017. It had comics 1-12.
I'm just saying I'm seeing a lot of people in this channel sad about a lot of characters not being significant in the gamez lore
After it released
They stopped making comics
So we never got a vol 2
And that's not because of First Strike.
Vol 1 did not sell well
Scratch that, they made 1 more comic. Retribution. then they stopped.
Two and a half years later, we got London Calling
Hopefully OW2 has heavy amounts of lore. and that there are in depth missions for every hero
Which ended up being very unpopular.
they're releasing an enhanced version of the anthology with the comics added afterwards
Yeah. Not a Vol 2.
I think it's the lack of consistency and long wait periods
not for every hero, but most of them
Just a rereleased Anthology
Also most comics added had little or no relation to one another
it's more about the story of Overwatch, not the individual heroes
Aw really? So there is a possibility a hero could just not be in the story mode at all?
Ahh that's sad
Which is a shame
Junkrat was the example that was explicitly used as people who likely wont appear
characters like Roadhog, Junkrat, Hanzo and Sigma don't really fit into the story
Sigma and Hanzo are more connected compared to the other two though
but he's not involved in the story
Didn't Hanzos attack on Genji lead up to Genjis inclusion to Overwatch?
Again I never said they were directly in the story but moreso than junk and road
but it's possible that some heroes won't appear in this story arc
That's ancient history
they might be involved in future arcs, once this one is resolved
You want to make historical ties
Sombra "hired" Junkrat and Roadhog to rob a bank in Dorado
Ashe is another one unlikely to be involved
Using hired out of the lack of a better word
Its more she just tipped them off and told them to rob the bank because it had money
And they did
So every hero in the game has a tie to Talon or OW in some capacity
Ye some more than others within the four though. Hanzo being related to a member, and Sigma being a member of Talon sounds more involved than one interaction
Sigma being a member is extremely unimportant at the moment
Ok but I was talking about out of the four which one relates to the story more
Not if they impact the story greatly
^
While I don't see every hero in the cast having a role in the main story mode, I can definitely see post-launch Campaign DLC where there are mini-missions that focus on two-four heroes as a group.
Such as Junkrat and Roadhog deciding to go on a bank heist to earn enough cash (either through legitimate means or otherwise) to get the World's Biggest Pachimari, and what-have-you.
Also, it's going to be weird to see heroes, such as Echo, getting a new look when they haven't been in the game all that long.
As for lore-related things, I don't know how much that will be a focus in the main Story Mode.
by the time OW2 comes out Echo will have been in the game for 2 years
Hmmm, fair enough.
Where does bastion fall on the spectrum exactly? Or nowhere at all?
Bastion is confirmed to be part of the story
I know torb took care of Bastion but that's about it
it's a pretty big part
For what heroes will be in OW2's story, who won't be, and who I personally speculate will be absent or featured:
Confirmed - Baptiste, Bastion, Brigitte, D.Va, Doomfist, Echo, Genji, Lucio, McCree, Mei, Mercy, Orisa, Pharah, Reinhardt, Sojourn, Sombra, Torbjorn, Tracer, Widowmaker, Winston, Zarya, Zenyatta
Likely - Hanzo, Moira, Reaper
Unlikely - Ana, Ashe, Roadhog, Sigma, Soldier 76, Symmetra, Hammond
Deconfirmed - Junkrat```
Soldier 76 and Ana won't likely be in it!? But aren't they the leaders of overwatch? Ig since they didn't appear in the recent cinematic and seem to be out hiding during that Valentine's day comic it makes sense
They're vigilantes
X _ X
I think
1 - Soldier 76 was the leader of old Overwatch. Ana was second in command. That is not the current Overwatch. Old Overwatch was a massive political and corrupt organization. New Overwatch is Winston's band of heroes.
2 - It has nothing to do with them not being in Zero Hour. It has to do with them being renegade vigilantes with their own mission. Jack is also very anti-Overwatch, and thinks Winston is making a mistake.
3 - Bastet released in January. Its not a Valentines day short story, or a comic. I dont understand what you meant by this. You know they're not dating right? Ana was married to Pharah's dad Sam, and Soldier 76 is gay.
Soldier and Ana are fighting their own war against Talon, and don't want to join up with Overwatch - plus the world thinks they're dead
For the third point lol ofc I know x _ x I just vaguely remember them having this mini story about meeting up and staying in hiding and that one panel in a comic where they were still hiding
that was Reflections, the Christmas comic
I'm just saying they've had a lot of lore about them I expect them to be included in the story
If they were, I don't think they would be included until far later
When characters have a significant amount of focus and material you expect them to be used in a story ._ ."""
they have their own subplot that will probably get explored outside the game with comics and short stories
True
Aw I was looking forward to them being in the story
I think the story would benefit having these complex characters
they're still in the story, just not in the gameplay
How would the story benefit by cramming in two characters on their own mission independent of Overwatch's, one of which is vehemently against Overwatch.
Ana is a big maybe
But I think soldier is stuck in his own ways
Also, I kinda didn't expect mercy to be apart of overwatch due to one of her interactions in Gibraltar
Overwatch coming back is pretty significant enough for past members to at the very least acknowledge it and they're inclusion could provide a lot of interesting dialogue and tension between characters
Ok they can also do that in OW2's story mode :v
Why
Winston saw that the problems in the world were growing, and he saw Overwatch as the solution for everything. I don’t think Winston ever questioned why things had fallen apart. He loved it and needed it too much to see how it had damaged and changed us all. Being in that room with Jack and Ana only reinforced to me that we were all still broken. Doing the same thing as we had done in the past would only lead to another disaster. The world didn’t need that. Winston’s heart was in the right place, but that didn’t mean he was right.
“Let Winston play hero,” Jack said dismissively. “I’ll do what needs to be done. Reyes, Ogundimu, Maximilien, Vialli, Sombra, O’Deorain, and the rest of them. They’ll be dealt with.”
To each their own ig I feel like you are very confident in your perspective on the topic lol
Oop you pasted something
Mercy didn't want to go back - she was in Egypt doing humanitarian work and ignored the recall
I hope that there will be individual hero missions, so we can see the characters you think won't be in it
Everything you are saying is covered in Valkyire.
Read Valkyrie: https://bit.ly/2CF5JVE
then Soldier and Ana showed up and Ana convinced her that Winston's Overwatch won't make the same mistakes theirs did
I'm not completely caught up with all of the stories so apologies if I say something wrong lol
Np it's not like the advertising for lore is as intensive as OWL lol
Where's Wrecking Ball gonna be
In his ball :>
True but
It would be cool to see Hammond in a cutscene
Wrecking Ball is another one that would he hard to work into the OW2 plot
since he doesn't care about Overwatch or Null Sector
The OW2 plot needs to accommodate to hammonds needs :p
Winston has some sort of connection with Ball but that's all I know
Yeah I believe that hammond escaped by grappling onto winston's escape pod
Winston and Hammond both came from the Horizon Lunar Colony and were both research specimens there
But he landed in australia or something
however Winston doesn't know Hammond escaped with him
Wanted to say that there was an in-game interaction for that
But then I just remembered
In game interactions aren't canon
Winston uses his caretaker's glasses right?
in-game interactions don't represent actual conversations, they're more "what if" sort of scenarios
Convenient they have the same prescription
Does the deadlock gang have ties to Talon at all?
No
Alright
since Ashe is a "my gang, my rules" kind of gal, I don't think she'd play nice with Talon
Sombras in game interaction with Ashe was the closest we will get :v
The only crime groups I would estimate have ties to Talon would be the Los Muertos and the Hashimoto.
Los Muertos because of Sombra.
Hashimoto because of their sharp contrast to the Shimada Clan
And Talon's interest in Japan
It would be so cool if there will be mini missions where you can fight the mini gangs like deadlock and the los muertos
I dont think they are big enough to be factions
Oh still would be cool though
I'd love to verse the crew shown in the mccree cinematic (sniper, bob, ashe)
Oh and versing a Volskya mech
hammond, roadhog, junkrat and junker queen mission pls blizzard
you have these three raving lunatics suffering the radioactive wasteland of the outback, one of which absolutely despises the other two, and hamper
Hammond has already left Junkertown, and Junkrat and Roadhog got exiled
unfortunate
From what I can tell Mccree dislikes Moira
Oh true
he's 37
Ashe is nearly 40 lol
Mercy's 37
Genji is 35, Hanzo is 38
Mei's biologically 31
Roadhog and Moira are both 48
he's 25
people who ship don't care about ages
one that's unexpected is Zenyatta - he's only 20
which means he was built after the Omnic Crisis
Orisa is a few months old
Orisa was built after Doomfist escaped from prison - she wasn't even an idea yet when Winston launched the recall
When did Zenyatta and his group "wake up" or whatever they called them gaining all that enlightenment. Was it after or before Uprising?
Right
I thought it was 9, I was close at least
Oh wait wasn't Mondatta there during Uprising
yes
he was one of the hostages
Retribution was 8 years ago
Uprising was 7 years ago
Storm Rising/Doomfist's defeat/Ana's "death" was 6 years ago
Overwatch was shut down 5 years ago
Wait so where are we at in the timeline when Winston called the recall are they fighting rn like is in game fighting supposed to be us “fighting” the omnics
the first game isnt set in a particular time, but OW2 is set around a year after Recall
Yeah great lore just doesn’t fit in game very well
Like why Winston and reaper same team what
the game itself isn't canon
overwatch has lore?
a lot
only like half of them matter
zen
zen has lore
he was in a short story
we know about his past and present
we know more about Zen than we do about Roadhog
#giveusjunkratandroadhoglore
They have a fair bit tbf
they're in a lot, but we dont know much about them
yea eggsacly
do they have families? what is Junkrat's secret? why does Roadhog love pachimari?
we need to learn more about junkertown
I want to learn about Bruce
we need to learn more about everything
bro I wanna know wtf the deal is with Sanjay
Bruce is the owner and operator of Bruce's Wreckyard in Junkertown.
Before the destruction of the Australian omnium, Bruce was an engineer. After its destruction and the irradiation of the Outback, he began operating his wreckyard in Junkertown. He had a good relationship with Mako Rutledge, and Bruce was one of the few Junkers that Rutledge res...
that's another one I'm curious about
will Symmetra find out her boss is a villain? how will she react?
archives pog!
it's still fun to play, especially with friends
eeh idk didnt play it
sad there arent any new coop anymore
cant wait for ow2
retribution remains the best one
close quarters is hard too
where we can see Lucio's SA in lore?
SA?
Sound Affects?
I mean there are some of his "Songs" in here but idk if that's what you're asking for https://playoverwatch.com/en-us/news/19828053/
did you mean his album, Synaesthesia Auditiva?
are we gonna have no more Archives backstories or cinematics because of OW2?
probably not
the point of Archives was to tell the story of how Overwatch fell, and to introduce Null Sector
and those three missions do that job, so there's no need for any more
plus, if they do plan anything it's pretty much too late now that they've introduced overwatch 2 as the pve major, so if there's any lore recount it's gonna be added as a hero mission or smth
shame
but is there gonna be a 'canon' version of each mission and a 'play any hero' version like in Archives?
the Story Missions will be the "canon version" (not sure if they'll have all hero versions)
but for Hero Missions you'll be able to play any hero
ok
that makes sense
wait isn't one of the new heroes in OW2 that fox girl
probably
we don't know much about her, but she matches one of the silhouettes described back in 2019
just the same three we've had before
Uprising, Retribution and Storm Rising
I don't expect a new mission
what are mission?
am pretty new to this game,
installed a week ago
but I've watched lore videos and cinematics stories atleast 200 times
they game is way harder than i thought
Theyre basically story missions that actually take place in the game’s storyline, so you usually use a set team of characters instead of the mix- and- match of a usual overwatch match. You play against computer controlled enemies and as long ad you don’t play on all heroes mode the characters have conversations that extend past the usual pre- game stuff
(I havent played archives yet either but that’s what i could gather)
Are there any comics involving sigma?
Nope
Dang his lore is very interesting
One of my favourites too
I'm still a bit confused on his lore tho
On what actually happened after his failed experiment
From what I heard, he got secretly kept in government facilities due to what happened to him in space, but then Talon broke into gov's facilities and took him in order to brainwash him
Idk if they legit brainwashed him, I thought they were just keeping their actual reason for recruiting him from him
Maybe it involves something with the melody he keeps talking about
Fanfiction isn't canon tho
Yup the melody was one of the methods Talon used, to control him
That's why we hear his melody when sigma is ulting (imo)
"imo" isn't canon
we don't know that
as far as we know no one but Sigma knows what the melody is and no one can replicate it
it's more likely that he's just perpetually angry and confused, and Talon lets him out to wreak havoc where they need him to
he's not "brainwashed" nor do they actively control him
I thought he heard music because he went crazy from the experiment.
That's what he thinks yes
It's probably true for him
That's what I thought. No idea where people thinking that stuff about him's coming from.
But there's not like an actual trigger melody that lets people make him do what they need to
There's no "Longing, Rusted, Seventeen, Daybreak" on a flute
The melody is in his head and he's the only one who hears it
I sat here like an idiot for an ungodly amount of time before realizing those were the words used on the Winter Soldier.
It felt like a long time.
so did i so dw
Overwatch doesn't have straight up mind control as far as we know
Widow is commonly called "brainwashed" but she doesn't mindlessly follow Talon's instructions either
Yeah
She kills because it's the only thing that gets her off makes her feel things
well, for now
and Talon gives her an opportunity to kill
Give him the old "Spiral staircase, Rhinoceros beetle, Desolation Row, Fig tart, Rhinoceros beetle, Via Dolorosa, Rhinoceror beetle, Singularity point, Giotto, Angel, Hydrangea, Rhinoceros beetle, Singularity point, Secret emperor."
Wat?
jojo
I haven't made it to that part, then.
But wasn't she a normal person before Talon?
yes
Okay
I'm not saying Talon didn't affect her, they clearly did
Yeah, yeah.
It's just not really "brainwashing"
at least not in the way it's usually meant in fiction
Yeah
she was physically altered to have a slower heart rate so she would be a better sniper (which also turned her blue)
and she was mentally conditioned to not show any emotion and only feel pleasure/positive emotions from killing
so she became someone who wants to kill . . . who needs to kill, to feel alive
Yeah. Widow's definitely not brainwashed. She obviously feels sorrow for some things and is in control of herself, she visited Gerard's grave at Christmas.
she also bought and is renovating her own house
C-Moon is my favorite stand
C-Moon is super high up on my list of favorites tbh
yeah, its has a hella badass design and gravity manipulation (which is always cool), plus the inside out stuff which was really interesting
Cannot wait to see C-Moon and MiH animated bruh
yep now that stone ocean confirmed
My favorite stand so far is Hol Horse.
But I'm only, like, halfway through part 3, soooooo....
She did?
Huh.
I wonder how tortured she is by the fact that she killed her own husband.
oh sry for spoilers
Maybe she even wants out of Talon but, like, can't leave because
A. She knows she'll die.
B. Talon lets her kill
Just some stand names.
And one ability, that I'll probably forget.
nah she's brainwashed, she doesnt feel anything for him
Well, if she visited his grave, maybe she does...
we just explained how she wasn't brainwashed
she clearly remembers him, and remembers loving him
I'm never calling someone named Gerard, "Jare-ard" again.
Bruh that was cool.
French people say stuff either really weird, or really cool.
I think the only map that would make sense is Chaetau Guillard(I butchered that name, I know), but that map doesn't have set-up lines.
And I can't think of any characters that it'd go with.
didn't read sorry
Maybe it's just something she says to herself?
Either way, she's a lot more interesting than I thought.
That's actually a good guess.
it's in the same folder as all her pre-game interactions
so it's just something that plays during set-up randomly
Now I'm gonna play Widow today 'til I get that line. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
yep, i was thinking that gerard is dead and she saw him in the afterlife
Yeah, I get ya.
Hey, so, this is a different topic and less lore related.
sure but you also need to recall that game isnt canon
wait
the comic
But, I found out yesterday when I got Hero of Numbani on Audible that it's read by Orisa's voice actor.
remember how she visited her husband's grave?
the interactions aren't canon but the information in them is
Will Deadlock Rebels be the same?
Yeah
wait really lol
hopefully
orisa's actor
Perhaps McCree would be voiced by Matt Mercer.
I'm in love with McCree's voice is why I ask.
I love trying to imitate it.
I hope they make a full series of books.
Like Halo has.
When Hero of Numbani came out, did they add any skins for it?
Nah
Eh, it would've been nice publicity
Just one of the Pachimarchi-type mini-events with the main menu saying how the book's out now, y'know
it would have been nice, but oh well
Like how they do when a short story is announced?
they did share the first chapter on the news page
It's a good book.
I enjoyed it
I don't know what they would have done
the only one who gets a new outfit in the story is Doomfist
Isn't that his "Painted" skin, though?
It said something about his body being painted, which is what he looks like in that skin.
no, I mean when he was wearing an agbada
something like this:
but that wouldn't work with his silhouette
not all outfits that appear in stories/comics need to become skins
4head
When was the Doomfist gauntlet created?
well there's been 3(?) people who have had it, and assuming they only used it in their prime which would be like 15-20 years, I'd say about 50 or 60 years ago?
That's way too old
The current gauntlet in its current form and size is not too old.
I would estimate no more than 20 years
The first Doomfist didn't really have a gauntlet, he just had knuckle dusters. His name was literally Doom Fist.
And he would have been active 30 years ago to fight in the crisis, and then alive for enough time afterwards to help with the foundation of Numbani.
Just curious as to where you found that because I don't remember every seeing past dooms in the lore
Oh that's in hollywood right ok
it used to be in the Numbani 2nd defender's spawn
but that got changed to an exhibit dedicated to Efi
Right, that's interesting
I’m sorry but is there a channel for bots
Ik this doesn’t fit here sorry but I was here so sry
Not that I know of but I'd try #general-discussion
I think most/some bots take the regular role to use
oh i so am
Sameee
Doomfists' successor will have a gauntlet that goes all the way to their chest :3
Doomfist wont have a successor.
Doomfist killed his predecessor to get the title
I don't think he'd risk that happening to himself
Ohh but like
From old age I guess
Unless cybernetic enhancements could make you live forever
Idk if that's a thing in overwatch
it's not
Oh ok
Hey lore nerds didn't Genji's sword have a name or smth
Or is it another fever dream I have
I think all weapons in overwatch has a name
Like rocket hammer, viper, and Widows kiss
Not all of them no
his sword is named Ryu Ichimonji
But the sword does
where did you find that
!!wiki Genji/Quotes
For more information about the game, please refer to the wiki: https://overwatch.gamepedia.com/Genji/Quotes
I honestly hate when that happened tbh
I remember when there was a lot of hype surrounding who could've stolen the gauntlet
it was pretty obvious who stole it
ik but the hype
thats a good question
one of the best questions ive ever been asked
isnt it just a gun that shoots healing pew pews instead of bullets
It shoots darts that are modified versions of mercys nanobiotics
There’s also a canister on the gun
do i have to know these things to get better at ana
Yes

no
it can be
It is
Ana
Plays air soft
thers no why to snip useing a air rifel
This is 20xx
Upgraded air rifles
also do you ever see her put air in
Advanced
No but there’s a canister
Plus it doesn’t sound like a rifle
And doesn’t have a suppressor
if there is no AIR than it can BE AN AIR rifel
*cant
U ever see pharah refuel her jet pack
OH I SEE NOW
The canister is pre filled with air
So when she reloads
She’s putting more air in it

no but at lest fule would work for a jetpake air cant work for a rifel
Yeah it can
no it cant
That’s how tranq guns work
And they have hunting rifles that run on air
they cant go that far
NO THEY DO NOT
._.
bro i hunt
unless you wanted to kill a ant than you cant
Bro
They shoot arrows or .50 slugs
It takes like
120 pumps from a bike pump
To shoot once
WHAT I HAVE NEVER HERD OF THAT
EVEN IF IT WAS A THING
Dude just google air rifle
IT TAKE ALOT OF TIME
Blizzard Entertainment announced its first new character to its critically acclaimed team shooter, Ana. This is the first addition to the roster since Overwatch launched in May for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. She’s a sniper that can also heal allies with her rifle
A rifel
not a air rifel
Yeah but it doesn’t make sense
How can she shoot it so quietly without a suppressor and at such velocity without injuring her team mates
Also the model shows an air canister
Literally like the back of a nail gun that’s been glued on to the bottom of the gun
😦 you right

i was wrong
Debunking fictional weapons
Now time to make one
YAH
happy archives!
can anybody help me out with the lore? i know a bit about widowmaker, tracer and the kings row incident, aside from that im a bit out of it
what would you like to know
