Agreed. No magic (no magic souls, no magic chi, no magic mana, no magic alchemy like philosophers stone etc) is a good rule. Characters are really fun when they are "fantasy class but with a scifi twist!" Like Ramattra being a necromancer, Lifeweaver as a druid, Brigitte as a holy paladin, etc. Especially for a global roster, leaving the area open for all religions/spiritual beliefs to tell hero stories without invalidating any other hero with a "one true religion is canon" is the best option imo. Powers being based on scifi/maths (like sigma gravity, Tracer time stuff, genji cyborg) lets every culture have a place in the roster, math is a universal and works well for scifi super powers
