Vendetta's writing is tell don't show, she revealed her location and got back up from yet another disabling gut punch to bare skin as a non augmented human. I don't mind her winning at all, but she didn't /earn/ that win, because Doomfist was written as incompetent at fighting. Doomfist has beaten Genji and Tracer before. Tied with Mauga.

Jetpack cat: if she's not a genetically modified test subject it would be like making Ganymede pilot a mech, ooc for lore. The Jetpack shape use isn't very compelling imo.

Anran: I like her weapon design and animations, but her design is too skimpy to take seriously and it veers on orientalist. Her face sculpt doesn't look related to Wuyang either. Fire use is fine but a focus on wind fanning the flames is Wood element not Fire element, more scuffed Wuxing lore. I expected her to be more masculine from prior shorts bc of her design, her fire element being the greater Yang, and the fact fans are traditionally a masculine weapon in China/Wuxia.

Mizuki: we didn't need ANOTHER human Japanese hero with 'magical' tp powers. I love the idea of getting Hashimoto lore, but Mizuki could have been an omnic bc the Kappa theme was already shown as an omnic in the Yōkai gang.

Domina looks interesting, but I wish her face was more unique or atleast had more South Indian features. I am interested in her lore.

Emre is neutral to me, nothing really pops out as "iconic" about his design beyond the cyber-fying effects. I am interested in his lore.

Like Vendetta stop yapping, SHOW US you actually know how to use tactics to win a fight live time, just like Doomfist had against Tracer and Genji prior. They pulled a star wars with the monologs but that only works bc Starwars is wuxia and lightsaber fighting styles represent philosophies. Doomfist pulled the sith "you are weak, strike me down" but but Vendetta wasn't actually shown being competent in battle, she had plot armor that prevented her from getting taken down by the BARE SKIN GUT PUNCH AS A NON AUGMENTED HUMAN.

Even then, having vendetta STRATEGIZE to get a cheap shot to disarm doomfist would have had Vendetta "earn" her win via strategic skill. But no, freaking monologs revealing her location and then "hiding in the shadows"-- SHE IS NON AUGMENTED AND HE CAN HEAR HER FOOTSTEPS. Tracer can TELEPORT and Genji has augments to have quiet steps, Doomfist was able to beat them on the fly. It literally makes zero sense.

All the shorts and cinematic and stories we had portraying Talon pre Vendetta overthrowing Doom, it felt like they just decided to finally move forward with their story and took all the potential and background with Doom, and made nothing out of it.

regardless of this underestimation or caught by surprised explanation, there was really no way that this was going to feel well executed because there was no build up, from his inception doom has always been cunning, 10 steps ahead, and one of the strongest in the verse. having a character's lore just undo all of that with no signs of doom slipping up or anything is just not good writing

Feeling like Villain of the Month with the new cinematic and Vendettas goal, versus Overwatch vs Talon vs Null Sector/Ramattra prior. Doomfist had things happening like the mission in Mauga's short, Widowmaker killing the important omnic guy, and Sombra Reaper and Widow on that Russian leader mission. But it all ended up with Vendetta getting a big spotlight on her, all that leading to nothing with the calculating strategic Doomfist who worked his way up his position.

I hate writers creating crappy sexist "tell don't show #girlbossing" characters, like boohoo nepo baby didn't get to inherit a TERRORIST organization from her MAFIA father. I do not gaf if she suffers for trying to be a war criminal, it's good to narratively punish war criminals for being war criminals lmafo. Like tell me oh wise "she's an empowering villainess" writers, how is it feminist writing if Vendetta's story is DEFINED by the men in her life (Antonio, Reaper, Doomfist)???? Vendetta facing men underestimating her doesn't make her special, all women face sexism buddy. She's a WAR CRIMINAL who wins important plot point fights because of plot armor (surviving lethal hits to bare skin as a non augmented human in impossible ways, competent enemies are suddenly writen as incompetent around her bc apparently two competent characters cannot exist on screen at once). If plot armor can be used to explain any fight outcome, stakes do not matter, character skills do not matter, nothing matters. The writers will just use plot armor to make the good guys win in the end regardless of things being illogical for the worldbuilding. Things "just happen" with no purpose and it's not interesting to watch.

Also Vendetta is a negative racial stereotype of "Italian = angry mafia" like bro im tireddd we get it She's "The godfather" but also "sith lightsaber" and "roman empire" -- JunkerQueen handles a modern day gladiator wrestler heel mob boss with a family vendetta fighting humans in mechs in a gladiatorial arena much more compellingly bc its madmax camp and humor, instead of watching a fascist Italian stereotype aura farm with plot armor all over pre-established overwatch lore.

I just hope Vendetta gets to be complex, one day.
