I thought only his arm down to the elbow was severed
So it’s not connecting to that is it?
For the armor on his torso
Why would he need electricity for his armor?
Probably just for show and no actual use
To make him seem more futuristic
But I’m clinging for an explanation
Yeah
It’s like fantasy characters and belts
Think of how on the show Face Off, they design their models costumes for whatever theme the challenge is
Just put 7 different useless belts all around them lol
Or how Star Wars original trilogy designed multiple different aliens just for the cantina scene
There's no real purpose to a prop other than to show off the kinda universe a character(s) is in
I have made a map of the world where all the territories of Overwatch are
Oh wait, can't send pics
upload it somewhere and send a link
I kinda wanna see how accurate it is too
By territories, you mean the Watchpoints and Ecopoints, right?
dude they should use arcane art style or the doomfist cinematic animation for a overwatch show series
fun fact - the lead artist on Arcane who was responsible for the art style has already done work for Overwatch
Nesskain did the art for many of the origin trailers
he also designed Brigitte, since she first appeared in one of the comics he drew (Dragon Slayer)
Well, already see what players will complain about from the Cassidy skin
That the nerf gun is too quiet compared to his other guns
It's fine cuz you can hear his spurs before everything else
Reaper is the strongerst character in lore no cap 🙏
@civic lynx
Oui
just seems like a better spot to talk about this
I think here is more for like actual canon lore but idk
well this counts I yuess
idk ramattra in general just has such good lore
his reveal at the end of
storm rising
was so peak
They definitely had larger plans for him based on storm rising
they neeedd to bring storm rising back
He was originally planned as the season 8 hero in December 2023, but he could’ve been given lore sooner
They technically can’t. Uprising, retribution and storm rising were broken and I think partially lost in the transition to OW2
And considering the damage invasion did not only to lore with ending on a cliffhanger that still hasn’t been resolved 2 years later but also to the reputation of ow in general, I doubt they’ll ever do something PvE themed again
💔
The underworld event in season 6 as far as I’m aware with my very limited knowledge of ow2’s lore has never been mentioned since it happened
the general concept of that was like
the underworld was being targeted by ramattra’s brain suckers, right?
I have no clue
I just found the gameplay boring, I don’t know that much on the lore end of OW
It felt like a less important both to lore and ow in the grander scale version of uprising
yeah I think it solely existed as a
taste of the pve so people would know if they wanted to buy it
That’s pretty much what it was
If anything it just showed how lacklustre PvE’s story execution was
sigh
I just hope that what they bring back is
as good as I hope it’ll be
ramattra has so much potential
he’s such a good character, and doomfist literally never got to actually be a fucking villain
I think whatever form of the revival we get, it’ll be at worst decent
he just showed up and was like “I am cool..”
They know a lot of OW’s core fanbase were very excited for PvE and ow lore in general
They’ve been beating us over the head for years with the stuff about doom wanting to create a new global conflict to usher in humanity’s next evolution, we could have him take a much more active role in the story if they wanted
and they keep adding characters
understandably, it’s how the game stays fresh
but how will that be compensated for in the story
will characters like Juno/illari even exist in the actual story
More characters isn’t the issue, it’s how disjointed they feel when they don’t need to
Venture and Illari for example don’t need to exist in the grander scale of PvE for the most part
Their stories are mostly separate unless they make Illari join OW/talon and venture has conflict with talon but they’re not really popular so nobody gaf if they’re included or not
venture did have one minor conflict with talon
in their comic
fought mauga
and won I believe
Juno was revealed to have joined OW along with orisa last Christmas, so she would be in the lore
LW seems mostly isolated but if vishkar and sym had any role in PvE he would as well
I feel like only a few of the ow2 heroes have actual impact
like obviously ram
obviously mauga
but like, who else?
IMO soj
She was basically the face of PvE during 2021-2022
hashtag most forgettable character in the whole game
Illari has devastating lore but she’s still seemingly just a Lone Ranger
Venture has talon but no connection outside of that, hazard has the phreaks who we’ve barely seen or heard from other than hazard’s animation, Freja’s just a bounty hunter currently
she is ex overwatch though
Yeah and seems more like soldier
Unlikely to join and dislikes ow being back
Only interesting part of lore she has is being the first mention of emre since 2016
If he returns and joins the reformed OW that may give her new lore
emre?
This guy, he was in ana’s origin story and remains the only OW member that isn’t playable
oh yeah
He wasn’t mentioned after ana’s origin story until freja’s animated short
And there’s been clown theories about him being made playable in the near future
his stupid Mohawk makes me not want to play him already
I mean
That image of him is probably like 30~40 years old
He’d probably be closer to soldier’s age in present day ow
too many grandpas
Ana was somewhere between 38 and early 40’s during the omnic crisis which is probably around the time that he had that appearance and she’s now 62
I’d assume emre today is probably somewhere between mid 50’s and early 60’s
Ashe:
that’s not so bad
my copium tells me for now they're trying to keep OW2 profitable to allow opportunities to bring more lore in, in some form
Shes also
Hunting another ex ow member who we havent seen yet
And also has ties to maximillion as its fairly clear they've worked together before multiple times
And also has ties to maximillion as its fairly clear they've worked together before multiple times
Emre's been mentioned several times since 2016 - in the Brig teaser, Sojourn mentioned him on Havana, and Declassified brought him up too
lore is a big part of what attracts players
it's the whole reason I'm here
if I didn't enjoy the game I'd still like the lore
I'm not going to lie Ramattra trailer and his lore was what attract me to the game
Then I started to delve into the general lore of Overwatch and it is genuinely one of the best worldbuilding that Blizzard has done
Is she not specifically hunting Emre?
I'm sure he mean emre
Ohh my bad my bad
But he must be new to the lore
Yea emre
Im bad with remembering the name for him
when Emre does come into the picture, it'll probably be a pivitol point in the lore
they're revving up for something - the conspiracy, the deadlock gang AND the junkers LITERALLY up in the air - whatever is going on with Lucheng
Hey how does genji eat dino nuggies?
Don’t worry about it
I think his mouth is still intact underneath the mask
Assuming he hasn’t sustained too many more serious injuries since leaving blackwatch his jaw is still in place
Can't believe they fired the lore team
This so so cute wtf
Does he even have a digestive track
There is a lore team there’s just like 3 of them left
Microsoft
I thought his waist down was fine lol
I heard that from someone here and apparently not?
He's fine waist down. Hanzo Anakin'd him and attacked to kill him so focused on his vital organs (in his chest)
Torso... w/e you get the deal
There's no reason for there to be damage below his belt
Idk why people would think there was
@crisp ivy
wuyang lore when
soon
Here I look into Overwatch 2's lore to figure out how each hero got their abilities, and how they work.
MISTAKES
-A major oversight I had in this video is where I confuse the term nanobiotics for nanorobotics when they are different things. As mercy stated once in her short story the science is "not quite" little robots. Nanobiotics is more alo...
How we feel bout the vid
Quite a few innacuracies id ssy
hm some of his speculations are a bit off
like wrecking ball's kit might be hard light like... no
it also doesn't take into account that gameplay isn't canon like - Dva doesn't have infinite mekas
junkrat not carrying around dozens of riptires similarly
widow not being able to just constantly have her wallhacks up
not to mention the ones that are just unknown - like Zenyatta
and I'm still not convinced Kiriko's (and the Shimada's) abilities are magic either. My guess is some kind of hard light manipulation
Genji and hanzo are hardlight
not confirmed
Kiriko has a sentient fox and teleports snd doesnt use the same texture that hardlight structures use (which the dragons do)
And she hss no tech on her like both hanzo and genji
Yes but she lacks any tech on her at all to do these things
Hanzo and genji have it
Im not convinced on kiri yet at all
Cause she poofs into petals
For her tp
and we don't know about tech for it - all three of them use their arms it could be some kind of implant or something, maybe their tattoos or something
Hanzos is most likely the arrows
I'm not convinced either but the precedent for it being hard light has been there since day one with Sym so, it's possible
Since all his arrows are high tech and genjis a cyborg
They both have tech that could do these things (its exactly how his non ult shots function)
I just wish kiri had SOMETHING to keep that consistency between the shimadas going
she might, we just don't know about it yet
one plausible theory imo is tech implanted in tattoos
you can have all the theories you want, but the lore tells us that the brothers' weapons use energy to generate the dragons and Kiriko's powers come from her fox
Is everybody thinking that the Japanese heros have to have some sort of undiscovered tech because there isn’t like a precedent for magic?
I mean what do you call the Iris exactly
it wouldn't be undiscovered if they're using it? we just don't know what it would be
and the Iris is a mystery like it came from when Aurora ascended so unless an omnic turned into magic? I think it's most likely some kind of technology that again we don't know the details of
I'm just saying it's a bit strawman to point to something you don't understand when it's been said twice at this point by game dev/designers (MChu and Dion) that it's specifically not magic, declare that it IS magic and that it's therefor inconsistent
until someone says that there is magic in the overwatch universe, it can be assumed that it's technology that hasn't been explained (to us) yet
which really kind of fits one of Overwatch's core themes that has been carried since day one: even with all the scientific advances and humans (and omnics) being able to accomplish so many wondrous things, not only are there still mysteries out there, but even more mysteries are opened the more technology advances
shimadas are confirmed tech in where honor lives
the fact kiriko didnt get confirmed makes me believe hers IS just spirit cuz well, why not confirm hers being tech too in the same thing
I said that it wasn't confirmed that it was hard light don't take my words out of context
a type of virus that got uploaded, we arent certain if it has any more powers than transferring data through stuff
yeah no worries i added to it with just saying "its confirmed tech"
the only real magic magic we have is kiriko, cuz its stated and kept as spirit magic and spirits since release and nothing so far has contradicted it
Well there wasn’t really any need or opportunity to deconfirm it as magic, she showed up to save hanzo and that was the end.
well she couldve said her fox is similar to the dragons etc, but no they in the story actually double down on it being a spirit
but a spirit doesn't necessarily mean magic
similarly to the shimada dragons being called "dragons" when they're not, you know, actual dragons
please don't
ehh i disagree
the story didnt say anything abt genjis and hansos dragons or weapons themselves
it just said "imitation weapons didnt work" idr the actual thing
i think its more likely that theyre using tech to harness tge power of the dragons rather than the tech generating the power itself
which imo makes more sense with "only a shimada can control the dragons" line and also helps explain why very few people have spirits
the Shimada family blades were the only ones to use the energy tech because Kiriko's father only made them for the Shimada family (until the Hashimoto forced him to work for them)
"only a Shimada can control the dragons" is just Hanzo being dramatic
i feel like if you gotta handwaive smth as "chsracter being dramatic" thats linda weaksauce
I don't know what the original writer's intention was with that line - maybe the dragons were magic/"spirits" at one point
but the most recent lore we have about them indicates that they are a proprietary tech used only by the Shimada family that uses some kind of energy to produce the dragons
that's the facts
I prefer it that way tbh
idk it only like kinda implies it it doesnt outright state it or anything
up to interpretation
neither interpretstion is 100%
sure
I mean, "only the shimada can control the dragons" could also simply mean that no one else has that tech
Hanzo even has an interaction with Bap where he says he'll destroy it with his dying breath (rather than let someone else have it)
which is what I'm saying
Right it doesn't necessarily need to be literal
it's a sort of peeve of mine when people take everything a character says as literal
like the interaction between Mercy and Mei about aging, or Cassidy's joke about not eating pork in DR
some things are just hyperbole, or jokes, or sarcasm, or whatever
Context is key
Is it canon that mauga lets it crust?
No that’s just propaganda
!!shitposting
Shitposting will result in a loss of access.
I didn’t know they said that I don’t follow everything they say
Was there by chance a scrapped numbani pve mission? There are voice lines between Orisa and Rein, and Orisa and Ram where a null sector fight in Numbani was mentioned but I cant find anything on it, only the attack from doomfist.
null sector did invade Numbani
but Orisa and Efi's junies faught them off
fought
the short story is on the OW media page, iirc it's called Unity or something similar
Ah thanks
Sym fought of one of the invasions he did
Solo
Without leaving a single casualty or bit lf damage on the city she protected
If im recalling correct
Sym and Lifeweaver fought off the invasion on the Atlantic Arcology, idr anything being said about casualties but there was def damage
To this day I still wonder why Ram attack Numbani from all the places he could have attacked
I think he wwnt for major cities with dense omnic populations
Well he's going after omnics to subjugate and Numbani is a safe haven for omnics so
I think he has a voice line where he mentions he truely had no quarrel with Orisa, which does make it wierder as to why he would attack there, but I guess the same logic behind the Toronto and parisio attacks could be applied
it’s not weird that he attacked numbani tbh. he wasn’t there for orisa, he was there to subjugate the omnic population in numbani n orisa just happened to get in his way
I’m pretty sure some voicelines suggest that ram thinks coexistence with omnics and humans is a useless half measure
that’s not surprising considering his hatred towards humans due to the senseless culling of omnics. omnics are finite, and he’s taking extreme measures to try and ensure their survival. there were attempts for humans and omnics to coexist, then humans proved once again that coexistence came with omnics dying
can’t blame the guy for being pissed but the actions hes taking following that are…. scratches my head.
You should hear some of his savage voicelines when he eliminates certain heroes when they ult
Definitely show how he feels towards humans
Ramattra cause is understandable, however his actions are totally unjustifiable, His actions are the clearest example that good intentions can turn into extremism
That's why I like to compare him to Magneto or in some cases Megatron, Ram and Magneto have experienced how cruel humanity can become, Both seek to protect their own kind regardless of the consequences for others, While Megatron in many interpretations starts out with noble and valid goals but eventually takes a darker and more extremist approach similar to how Ramattra starts out believing in the Shambali until eventually becoming disillusioned with them and turning into a extremist
Crumb by crumb
Looks cool
So I'm not sure on this, maybe someone could enlighten me: Ye is his family name/surname, Wuyang is his given name?
I know i know that in Asia the family name comes first but I'm not sure what method the poster is using, is what I'm saying
Anyone want to team up I need loot box…
I believe Ye is his family name
Is he a tank or dps?
Support
Weve known for a while hed be support
Like
Before or during hazards launch we knew
if you want to have a serious discussion you're welcome to start one
Can we say overwatch is science fiction ?
Even tho dragons and the fox spirit are not explained yet
It is
Fox spiritz the only one without any reason period
maybe the dragons arent real
demon slayer breathing type shit
water breathing ahh and theres a tsunami but its just a sword
the dragons are implied to be energy constructs
Wuyang comic today, hopes?
Today comic so maybe we learn today
I hope its just a hardlight or gravitational force and not magic tbh
wait ur right
comic tomorrow for me
yippee
voiced one i assume
unless that comes later
Its not gonna be magic they dont want that
Still not sure what kiri is doing
Kiriko is just there
his glove thing looks similar to lifeweaver
1000/10 pfp
Energy like sym and weaver light type stuff? Or is it a different energy that’s passed through the Shimada clan?
the energy is generated by their weapons, which were made for the Shimada clan by Toshiro Yamagami (Kiriko's father)
Ohhh
At China’s most prestigious university, new heroes are rising.
Join Howard Wang, the voice actor behind Wuyang, for a reading of our newest comic, ‘Against the Tide.’
Wuyang Ye’s family has a storied legacy at Wuxing University, but when Wuyang is accepted into a different path of study than what his family has traditionally pursued, h...
tl;dr - water powers are tech based, Wuyang is the family disappointment until he saves his older sister's life
Can’t believe they seriously got a guy named Wang to voice WuYang
Wang is a common Chinese surname
Separate thing but Wuyang’s designer and VA share a birthday with Lifeweaver
Story is legit WHY YOU NO STUDY
Can i add, why is there an hierarchy betwren completely different subjects
because elitism?
Bc China is like that
Yknow whst fair
Was this during the most recent null sector invasion?
yes
So he's new new at this
he appears to be the youngest male human hero
How old?
Right probably not older than 25
I'd say 22
Junkrat is 27 and Lucio 28
We def needed more young dudes
hazard
I keep forgetting Hazard
it’s an Asian trope omg
His age got confirmed in some China stream on twitter I think
Nvm I can’t find it so forget it
I think they just said he was a new college student
Story is low-key so boring I fear
This comic is so funny
First day at fire college I hope they don't find out I'm a water student ...
The comic is ok
"Your grades are too low to be a soldier so you get to be a doctor instead"
i’m just glad it’s not magic based
it’s strange we didn’t see his gauntlet in the comic
i guess most the techs in the staff
Hazard is
I keep forgetting about Hazard
I forgot too though
Yea
Hes kinda forgettable
The youngest after him are Lucio and ram shared at 28
"its so dissapointing he didnt study enough to be a martial artist and had to become doctor instead, what a dumbass"
And Junkrat at 27 everyone forgets him being young bc of the balding lol
And he just got his second old man-coded skin 🤣
was this characters lore written in an afternoon what is thiiiiis
most of the new hero's backstory comics dont relate to the main plotline we usually get the main plotline in a cinematic trailer
not to mention it does explain China's defenses against the Omnic Crisis
I really wanted something more cinematic than a comic for his announcement 🫠
yeah I wasn't really expecting him to be a very important character to the plot
i hoped for something like the animation freja haz and juno got but i personally enjoy the comics
I think that's coming later this week
ouuu ok
I wonder if he's going to get recruited into Overwatch (either right away or after graduating?)
Hes kinda tropey but eh
yeah I mean, he checks boxes in the least offensive way possible: young male, healer, doesn't muddy up the already-established lore, introduces yet another faction, more China-appeasement/apology
Lmao I said the same thing on the YouTube video
Hazards in his twenties?
he is 24 - date of birth 11/11
Honestly
Wuyangs story might be the most boring one ive read so far
I really hope the cinematic adds more cause this is more of a lazy manga/anime plot type character
it's a very "whelming" story like it's there, it's nice yeah
Its just
Bland
Like
I dont think anyone else in the story feels as bland by far
Metal college seems cool tho
I meaaannnn if you want my controversial opinion, they are trying very nicely to court the chinese market so they wanted a/another squeaky clean hero that would resonate with the middle class there that doesn't have any dirt or baggage
so we get a good boy who studies hard and saves the day
🔥
@DiegoSolano180 I can't elaborate further, but the fire is not magically being summoned from her fists. There is 0 magic involved
I know blah blah twitter but someone pin this/screencap and pin it
I would like them to explain what is causing it all then tbh
I feel like they tried incorporating Avatar elements into his story
I think the premise is pretty basic but I think the comic is the best since they started using them as character intros.
Its like what if you mixed stereotypical asian problems with avatar
The writing is good, the concept is bad
It feels like a kid show
Another Null Sector Lose to the list
Null in the gutter
just because it's a group divided into elements doesn't mean it's copying Avatar
Not really
Only similarity it has to avatar is elements which
Is a very common thing
I am aware
In short tho, yeah ge feels generic but if you really think about it most heroes kinda do
At least others had more
Depth to them even if there generic
He doesnt seem to have anything
Interesting story wise
Hazards a vet who got fucked by the system
Venture eats rocks
Freyas a bounty hunter whos working with maximillion
I just dislike how quickly the conflict is resolved
They go from you dissapontment to "oh you saved your sister we kinda like you now" and he also instantly forgives them
Ngl just stopwith the venture rocks meme it got old
No its cannon and i love it
Where is it canon
Theyve stated the reason ventures tooth is chipped is from biting a rock
Cant remember where it was said now
But it was hilarious during the season venture came out
No its from a rock hitting their teeth, cuz they smile while digging
And that they accidently bit on it
They dont eat rocks, theyre just reckless
So theyve accidentally eaten rocks then
You can spit things out yknoe
Naw
I stand by this until the day ow or i dies
the eating rocks thing comes from actual archaeology
you can tell a fossil from a rock by licking it
Geology to
Thats not exactly eating it though
Both have the licking thing and thats where the whole joke comes from
I read the comic instead i only watched the hazard one cause of the accent
Where we specifically have Wuyang ask to modify the staff to shoot water jnstead of fire
And people still comment
"MAGIC REAL IN OW?? HOW WATER SHOOTING???"
😭
Like sure the staff helping him ride on a wave isn't very uh
Technology go brrr
Give people like a season and everyone will catch the schtick of him using tech
But like, it's explained in the comic
And people comment on the video
of the comic
Going
"Magic real!?!?!"
I’ve learned over the years that the average Overwatch player lacks media literacy skills
reading/listening comprehension is at an all time low
it's either that or "they ripped off Avatar!"
because Avatar is the only thing to ever use a group divided into elements
😭😭😭
tbf to these ppl,, kiriko p much confirmed that magic/spirit control... thing is real
bc that fox of hers isnt tech
shhhhh dont let them find out about the chinese drama genre: xianxa!
Finally got around to looking at the backstory comic about the new hero. Feels like for a series a while back that claimed it didn't want to be "to scifi fantasy" they've long ago given up that claim.
they've always considered Overwatch as soft sci-fi
things are (mostly) tech based but not explained in detail
When it comes to people saying “who has the strong ults” why do people tend to overlook echos?
Omg they added magic to ow ?
it's probably hard light or more likely something similar to it
like the same stuff that rein/brig's shields are made of
what could be hard light?
new character
and his abilities
but it could also be science bc of the manga showing it coming from a tech college and a mechanical staff
he was shown building it
yeah it's 100% science
the lead narrative writer just said it's not magic
they showed how it was tech in the comic yet people are still doing cognitive gymnastics to claim it's magic, it's like an obsession with pulling a "gotcha" on blizzard it's so weird
weird or trolling or both idk
Wuyang doesn't use hard light
his staff is a modified version of the fire staff made by one of his friends
I guess because it isn't THAT far in the future either
Guys Overwatch’s tech has always just done whatever the writers want it to no matter how infeasible in real life why are we drawing the line at moving water around
most of the technologies in Overwatch (AI/robotics, cybernetics, nanobiotics, even sonic weapons and genetic modification) are bleeding edge stuff right now, so the writers are just extrapolating from that
but also that - tech does what the plot needs it to
My theory is that Wuyang and the people at the water college utilize gravitational energy to life and manipulate water.
karma police
anybody like radio head
got some radio head from your thotty but she wasn't in tune to the frequencies 😔
✌️
This whole controversy about magic being in the game is so silly. They literally explained how he made his weapon with tech yet people still wanna witch hunt
And fire college ?
They use technological staffs just like Wuyang
Nah it's clearly magic
@worthy rose inv me
People complaining about her doing nothing but shooting fire
As if flamethrowers don't already exist
Or her suit being the source of her power, as if that won’t sound too unbelievable in the ow lore. These people have no suspension of disbelief🤦♂️
I mean deadass they could say "there's a flamethrower under the sleeve"
And people will go "ohhhh"
Nah they will still witchunt cause they’re biased
We literally had a monk from the very beginning with mystical powers so huge they literally had to de-canonize it in the lore. But tech that controls the gravitational flow of water is where they draw the line
nothing's been de-canonized
gameplay has never been exactly canon
gameplay powers are the way they are for gameplay balancing
otherwise most heroes wouldn't have to charge their ultimates (Widow, Shimadas) while other heroes would only have 1 ultimate per battle (DVa, Junkrat)
Ye my point was Zen’s powers weren’t canon that’s all
yeah we don't know if he heals in the lore at all
well, he heals like spiritually but
your point still stands
Dont the voice lines add whats canon at times?
so like, it's been said that voicelines/interactions aren't canon
I interpret that as "just because the heroes have an interaction doesn't mean that they've met" but the voicelines are canon in that they are in-character and if they are talking about things that happened in canon
It has
That
Just makes voicelines kinda complicated
So, I think we can guess this will be a great theme when Wuyang gets added
More skins to venture
I can get behind that👍👍
Fire Illari, Ice Mei, Wood Lifeweaver, Earth Venture
i heard that water college sucks
Water Wuyang
Let’s see people say that when the doctors from that college are needed
They realize Earth means dirt, right?
Guess that college is for the lowest of the low
I mean, Venture has been getting more skins as of late
The only one really getting the shortest end of that straw has been Ramattra
He gets a skin once in a blue moon
Is ashe and mccree platonic
no they hate each other…
Yall I have a lore question. Is Junkertown the way it is now because of like a nuke explosion or something 😭 also like how long before present day Overwatch did the explosion happen
Like why does everything have like radiation and shit
thats just regular Australia mate, they did change the name in the game tho. Junkertown/New Junk City is actually based off a place called Alice Springs
Was because of the omnic crisis i think
A real question i have is for all the maps and why they are so high up
Is it just for gameplay and not lore related
idk
Yes. Junkertown is built on the ruins of an omnium (omnic building factory) that was supposed to be a new place for the omnics to build a city. But the Australian Liberation Front blew it up. And the core was radioactive yes, so the entire Outback was radiated. It happened after the end of the Crisis, so I’d say ~20 years before present day Overwatch
(There’s probably someone who have a better timeframe than that, I think Mercy was already Overwatch back then, and combined with how long JQ ruled Junkertown and how long her family was threw out of Junkertown)
Wuyang gameplay trailer today
IM SO EXCITED
Wuyang is finally here for some hydration domination!
As a prodigy from Wuxing University’s Water College, Wuyang redefines what it means to heal with a hybrid playstyle built on flow, precision, and constant disruption.
With his Xuanwu Staff and mobility-focused kit, you’ll be able to support or deal pressure depending on the situation, a...
he looks so fun
yeahh
the sound design is so good especially the part where he slams his staff and sends that wave
in case anyone needs it repeated
the staff is not magic, there is no magic in Overwatch
the air condensing is how i imagined it to work so makes sense
and before you come at me with "but Kiriko-!" the devs consider spirit and magic separate things
"ive seen a little bit of whispering" aka hes read the youtube comments
he can hold it to track, yeah.
he looks so funny in game
compared to his concept art
his face feels uncanny
sorry if that dosent count as lore idk where to discuss character
Something funny to note, every new hero in their gameplay trailer is shown eliminating the previous new hero
Kinda fun to see that
yeah its. ?????????
weirdly designed for the 3d model... his face isnt that square in the comic & concept art
yea
honestly they probably still have some polishing up of the model to do yet
probably wait until after his trial just to make sure they don't have to undo some part of the rendering that takes forever just because idk something just explodes in game during the trial or whatever
kinda like how you don't hang drywall until after the plumbing, electric, etc is set in a house
I heard somewhere that it’s a marketing tactic. Like if someone who didnt play for a while watches the trailer he’ll see all the new characters he doesn’t recognize and may thus encourage him to learn more about them
makes sense
is it just me or does the college wuyang attends make no sense. students all apply to the same college and sorted like harry potter into either robotics, life sciences, or medical school, and somehow martial arts is the most prestigious and difficult college to get into? let alone the fact that students interchangably apply for different majors that have nothing to do with each other lol
idk maybe there's an aptitude component to it
Nah that's magic dood
I find that being a warrior in an age where humanity was nearly wiped out during the Omnic crisis would be more prestigious than say a doctor for ex.
Then what is spirits ? Why spirits wasn't introduced before and just popped off from nowhere
This plothole is worse than her age
What's wrong with her age ?
Shes trained with Hanzo and Genji since they were all kids but they are 15+ years older than her
So unless a 21 year old Genji was training with a 6 year old kiriko? Dont make sense
Ah okay , I don't know anyone's lore or age lol
Don't ragebait in here heim , they really hate the magic word
more like tired of the trolling when we're willing to answer questions regardless of trolling but ok
Sorry Winton
Is Winston or sigma smarter? I know sigma is cray cray butttt he’s goddam smart while winton is yk smart monkey
winston would be if your meaning current sigma cause
again
hes crazy
they didn't train together when they were all kids, she trained with them when she was a child
it's right there in her bio
her bio does list her age wrong though - she should be 26, not 21
Really love the Polar Skins so far…
But besides Mercy, I wonder if the other OW members will get their own Polar Skins
And I know some will say, Echo, Bastion, and Orisa don’t need Polar Skins for Antarctica
But considering Ramattra had to coat his robots with ice resistant lubricant, suffice to say that Overwatch’s robotic members would need some kind of ice protection too
Im
Pretty sure her base skin or her cinematic skin would be meis arctic o es
Ones
she was a kid, genji and hanzo were older
the ages are still weird, but the lore has never said they were children as the same time, kiri was a child, genji and hazno were older
interestingly these skins were based on a possible future mission well never get, these six were probably the playable heroes we would have gotten + any of the omnic heroes
very fun explanation actually
it was likely for antartica, as its implied ramattra might reside there
the polar skins were also shown off in a trailer
depends,, i'd say theyre equally smart.
Sigma invented the tech that makes everything hover, Winston created the anchor that keeps tracer in the correct reality. It’s a difficult comparison lol
Sigma near,y created a proper harness to gravity itself before he became the harness
Yea
Its kinda just implied there both insanely smart
Same with mercy i believe she invented the healing stuff to
correct
the issue is hpw do you quantify "smartness"
a lot of the heroes are highly intelligent
Indeed, but also what makes one smarter than another?
Yea
Like
Street smarts its a whole different selection of characters to
Sombra or jq (imo)
intelligence on the scale of the science-type OW heroes is not something that can easily be quantified or qualified
it's why the IQ system is flawed
Sigma probably couldn't operate on a person, but he made a friggin black hole
it's like comparing Charles Dickens to Aristotle
or for athletes: comparing an olympic diver to an olympic wrestler. Yes they're both "fit" but in vastly different ways. Even comparing an olympic sprinter to an olympic long-distance runner - they're going to be different types of athletic
Thats why for strength you usually go by whos the physically strongest
Which i think is
Zar
Mauga winston tied
Doom
Theb orisa
In reverse order
physically strongest...
Orisa (strongest omnic)
Winston (strongest organic)
Doomfist/Mauga (strongest augmented human)
Zarya (strongest human)
Mauga can keep up and draw with doomfist on purr physical body strength i think hes pn par with zar
they should rename cassidy to mccree
No.
nah.
yeah they should and anyone who disagrees should stay off overwatch
!!shitposting
Shitposting will result in a loss of access.
LMAO reddit mod
winston beat doom i think hes stronger
at least whuile prinal
theres one "odd ball"in develpoment
Isn't zenyatta the strongest omnic
Just a normal omnic with godlike spiritual abilities
Pretty sure he's even one of of not strongest characters in canon not just omnic
in game abilities don't represent canon
Better be mama hong
he doesn't have godlike powers
???
I want a tanky woman like an ACTUAL tanky woman
he's just an omnic monk who is well respected among the Shambali
he's basically Genji's therapist
People in Reddit are f**king stupid. I think they’re so used to the same tropes from DC, Marvel, Invincible etc. that they just can’t accept when the creators of THEIR game tell them straight out a fact of the game
I'm 99% sure it's meming on hardcore lore fans and blizzard at this point tbh
They're saying it bc it'll 100% get a reaction
So explain kiriko? Zen? Hanzo and gengis ults? The new water guy?
tech, all of it
it's literally the definition of the genre "Soft Sci-Fi," the how is not important-
And this why OWC is losing people 🤦♂️
Idiots gonna think this fan made thing is gonna be the next hero
jetpack cat is already i ngame
At least Potnoodle adds their name to show its a joke
Hanzo and genji uses hardlight not a hard explanation
Snd the water staff is judt a modified version of one that does the same with fire
I can understand the confusion about the dragon/fox spirits though I can think of a few universe-conforming ways they could explain it
but the water guy, THAT's what they think is magic? We have multiple in-universe precedents already for controlling elements as well as gravity control
Some people may think it's controversial
But I don't mind magic in OW2 and I think Wuyang is a fine addition
Exactly
"Magic is sometimes science we do not yet understand" -Zenyatta the balanced between Discord and Harmony
*taps sign
So you're saying Overwatch is like Hard Sci-fi?
soft sci-fi
Oh alright
Thanks for explaining
Finally we got the cat
I really doubt the next oddity will be hero 45, Probably 46?
ugh not this arteficial sudden outrage over oddities
wait so the college Wuyang goes to has different acceptance standards for each type? that seems kinda wierd
The devs today said they love oddities and Dylan said the same thing on his twitter. Cavalry just misquoted the devs and now everything is in the gutters
Not really. Chinese colleges have high academic standards
nah I know that gamesandwich interview the designers said that they were not planning on developing as many oddities and everyone took it as "we HATE ODDITIES AND WE AREN'T EVER MAKING ANY AGAIN"
Ye exactly people blew it out of proportion
I truly don't understand this trend of taking something totally out of context and/or inserting their own words or meaning into something in order to get outraged over it
and then all of a sudden everyone's like "we LOVE oddities!!! OMGL" like bish when was the last Torb skin you bought? Shut up.
Outrage generates engagement which generates revenue in the media. Social media is designed to keep engagement going
yeah true
Exactly like these are the same people who constantly shit on venture😭😭
it's so annoying
right these whole "we LOVE bastion Junkrat hog WDYM?" like nah fam I can scroll through your profile and not see ONE of those heroes and I bet y'all got less than an hour on them combined FR
not to mention they probably instaban Wrecking Ball like come ON
and then they further twisted the words to mean "we are only making conventionally attractive heroes from now on" sighhh
(Okay but ball is annoying to play against)
oh I know I HATE wrecking ball full stop
playing against him, having him on my team, even his lore got me mad when he was released (admittedly his short story in the anthology was really good and was a total sleeper hit for me, but still)
NGL when the anthology was coming out, I was praying that his story would be like "ok I've done everything I wanted to on earth, it kinda sucks here so I'm going back to the moon/going into space to explore" and he peaced out from the narrative
i think they made it clear he uses tech while your in game
which is nice
cus you see water come from his staff
and you see the gauntlet
i was worried it would look like magic in game even tho it’s not
they did good
Wuyang has no problems, he is perfect
based wu yang glaze
Other then his backstory being really bland
Hes an awesome character otherwise
i love his backstory, its just not built up because hes new </3
Wuyang was working hard in college , until the fire nation attacked .
Oh wrong series
Wrong series buddy
Venture?
I said that
Like Venture is just a goofy explorer who fights Talon
Venture seems like a really annoying person to be around
I highly doubt it
oh yeah, Venture has a trauma-free backstory too
zen is an omnic so idt he can even access anything magical even if he wanted to, kiriko's spiritual since shes a shrine maiden & thats what theyre all about, & imo the shimadas' ults arent actually real, theyre just vfx a la demon slayer's breathing techniques.
tbf i got into physics w a bad gpa bc the arts department wouldnt accept it so... things like that exist irl.
Jetpack Cat will never be a playable hero
i hope it becomes a playable hero. i'd love to play as a cat.
Jetpack cat became Hammond
the cat steals the ball from the hamster
I approve of this agenda
Spirituality doesn’t work in a sci fi universe. It’s all supposed to be explainable in some way but just saying “oh she can do that bc she’s connected with an unnatural deity” makes the lore crumble apart
Sure the point about ults not being real makes sense but still you can’t really explain a lot of what’s happening with the new characters
A lot of the old characters also have some bs that isnt actually explainable other then "they have tech thats stated to do this"
did you ask chatgpt for that definition?
no, it's a google summary of the subgenre
as with many subgenres there's overlap and all

ok but that is what the definition of soft sci fi is, regardless of how it was retrieved it is correct
ugh stupid wifi
Star Wars is also soft scifi
the magic has a sciencey explanation
just because Overwatch doesn't have any magic doesn't mean it can't have things that seem like magic
like Sigma's gravity powers, or Reaper turning into smoke
those just get a sciencey explanation
Starwars doesn’t claim to be fully explainable.
It has many physically impossible plot holes
venture
venture is less traumatic than both id say
But the ow team keep pushing that the story is fully committed to scientific somewhat possible tech
its more fun in their opinion and i agree
psuedo science is usually more fun than pure magic
and it is, it's people like you that are doing mental gymnastics to prove that it isn't
Overwatch doesn't claim to be fully explainable either
Plus the new characters they’re dropping are adding 0 contributors to the lore plus they ruin the flow of the narrative
how does he ruin the flow?
It’s the opposite, you’re doing metal gymnastics to try and prove that it is Infact scientific which it isn’t
the flow was already ruined by the cancellation of the story missions
he doesnt really disrupt anything
from the beginning we've had characters that can "create" solid objects out of nowhere - Rein's shield, the Shimada dragons, Symmetra's entire kit. It's all in-universe tech-based
the current story is all about just constant side stories, atleast he was connected to the "current" story
why is it suddenly "not science" now?
Wuynang's powers are tech based
and he doesnt create it from nothing, they explained it as taking water from the air
By having absolutely no contribution to the lore and almost a completely new story in an already rich universe
sigma had the same
right it's RIGHT THERE in the comic this time
that part wasnt, jsut that it compresses in his staff
but the air part was from an intervierw
probs will be in his bio
his introduction expanded the lore
ok but it was explained up front this time
yup
Plus the ow universe is too complex already we don’t need new elemental collage that they shamelessly stole from other media.
it added things we didn't know about
from which media?
Nope he’s very involved in the narrative
and again it atleast is connected to null sector
says who? by what rule or metric does one classify a universe as "too complex"?
tell me ONE thing sigma has done
in lore
since release
Avatar mainly and also the already overused character base model of element benders
its not based on avatar
like
avatar is based on asian cultures among other things. the cultural inspirations for wuyang prelude avatar
Wuxing (Chinese: 五行; pinyin: wǔxíng), usually translated as Five Phases or Five Agents, is a fivefold conceptual scheme used in many traditional Chinese fields of study to explain a wide array of phenomena, including terrestrial and celestial relationships, influences, and cycles, that characterise the interactions and relationships within...
We already have a lot of organizations and the chess board if full. Adding more pieces overcrowds the narrative and makes it unnecessary complex
listen, i dont like his story either, its hella bland. but none of your points make sense
Avatar doesn't even use the same elements
THEY LITERALLY DO DID U WATCH THE SHOE
this is like saying if we get an alchemist hero "THEY STOLE FROM FULL METAL ALCHEMIST"
wood?
basically agreed. His story is very "sanitized" but it tracks
Look up his pregame conversations with other characters
it feels like a typical shonen thing ngl
like his comic was like watching a shonen show condensed
He adds more depth to talon and makes for emotional relationships with other members and ow members
so you cant
Except that
what depth does he add
be concrete
the elements in Avatar are based on the 4 western elements - earth, fire, wind, water - not the wuxing elements - water, fire, earth, metal and wood
I’m not about to give you a lecture in narrative construction look it up yourself
Avatar has almost all the ones you said except probably wood
and they said in development they "worked closely with NetEase" to develop the character, so I'm taking that as "we wanted a 'safe,' CCP-and middle class Chinese-approved representation of China"
just because Avatar had them doesn't mean they're the same
They just made them into sub elements so the main ones don’t get too crowded
also, Avatar didn't invent them
And yeah they’re pretty damn similar
the concept of elements goes back centuries
well ill give you a hint, he has not concretely done anything in the lore. the only mention of what he has done is be in a lab, nothing else. you can say you have ALOT of ideas because of voicelines, but wuyang doesnt even have interactions yet which again makes that quite void. interactions also arent always good indicators especially with a crazy old person shown to be wrong MANY times
So don’t you think it’s time to let it go?
you don't need to ping me every time
again, ill assume your an avatar fan, but avatar based itself on asian myths and culture, not the other way around
avatar didnt make asia go "damn thats cool ill copy that!"
I don’t blame you blizzard is barely doing anything to move the lore forward
avatar doesnt hide its inspiration either
this has been since release
he has not gotten anything
that's like saying Wuxing university copied Pokemon because they also have water and fire types
I'll give you a clue as an "old" person, by the time that AtLA came around, the "elemental power" trope in cartoons was already old and worn out, AtLA just brought it back into fashion
I’m not but I know one thing or another about it
sigma is not important to the story, yet nobody complains because the lore ocncept is cool
wuyangs concept is as i said "shonen character 192923494"
And when’s the last time we got an actually good cinematic?
lol they all copied Captain Planet ig
i dont see how this is connected to my statements
and Hazard's
yeah Freja's short actually planted a seed for another story
my point is though: a hero doesnt need to be important to have a good story and vice versa
Their marketing focuses on the more appealing charaters that attract a broad market which is why they pretty much only make good skins for mercy, kiri and Juno
and genji
and rein
stop pinging me
its more popularity over it
Sure
But still it does leave out a lot of characters
Sigma isn’t really “marketable”
No one really started playing overwatch because they thought sigma was cool
lots did, his origin trailer is one of the most watched ones
Because people who already play the game watched it idk where you’re getting at
He also got released at the golden age of ow
depends on who you ask
lots already were falling off from ow
I meant the highest play count
I'd consider the golden age to be 2017-2018
according to?
Steam stats and generally the media focus on the game
how many skins do you think hes gotten
steam stats?
dude
you know nothing
Wait mb
yeah this guy is just regurgitating the same shpeel that's basically a meme at this point on Twitter/Reddit
you can point out how his points are objectively wrong and they'll continue to double down
sigma gets more skins than winston (main character of the game) ball, hog and zarya in tank
in ow2 alone
popular heroes get more skins, companies like making money, water is wet, move on
So what point are you making now
ill tell you why sigma has no further development, he wasnt planned, he was a hero based on a kit they liked so they just built something around it, went for something cool but dont know what to do
popularity doesnt really matter for lore, because lore is marketing. most popular heroes do not need further marketing so if anything less popular ones would get more
thats my point
iirc Sigma was made entirely in about 6-8 weeks when their attempts at making Mauga led to a fun kit that didn't work for Mauga's personality
yup
so they whipped up a character for that kit and shelved Mauga
I mean at this point the lore is just used to revive whatever is left of the people who care about the game
the lore serves to make people care about the game
what a bold statement
almost like that's the entire point of lore
nah, again lore is marketing. if i like i character im more likely to buy stuff, if you relate you are more likely to go parasocial and get more skins or play the game for that character
its another way of marketing
lore is what made me like the game, and what keeps me here despite not really playing much anymore
this is why lore still matters to a degree for the devs, because if any hero dropped without any character, people would care LESS
NU uh most skins the game releases are not related to the lore and some even literally discard of it completely
its also why gacha games often put in alot of lore for new character just to bench it after, it makes you go parasocial and think less badly of spending
they want you to care, so you want to spend money
so you jsut cant read
imma play wuyang
Like that skin of genji having a perfectly good face or widow skins with normal skin
gl spooky and six
It doesn’t make sense and it just proves that the lore is used mainly as a tool to influence a specific part of the player base
so you didnt read
its again, to make people carew
if you care, you are more likely to spend on skins
I'm on a train across Germany, I've got time to kill
skisn are not lore, but lore is marketing, marketing can help with it
ah nice, germany is beautifull
This is getting too serious for a discussion about video game skins
im just explaining basic marketing, nothing deep
agreed
I think
this is also why MOST games which dont need lore, now have lore
boosts retention, makes people care and can help make people more likely to spend money
I hate business 💔😦
unfortunately, capitalism ruins everything
Let’s just start a revolution
good luck with that
For better ow lore and equal rations
if I was a billionaire I'd buy Overwatch and give them all the money to make the game they want
and bring back the story missions
You already play overwatch your chance of making more than minimum wage is blown
minimum wage where I live is $17.85
Where art thee from
Vancouver, Canada
possibly
Cassidy
based
Right haha wish I could retcon my brain 🤪
Interactions! A lot of long ones
Because Kiriko is the spawn of the devil and hates anything that's not herself
Do we know what mount emei is
Oh it’s a mountain with like a monastery on top maybe?
Mount Emei ([ɤ̌.měɪ]; Chinese: 峨眉山; pinyin: Éméi shān), alternatively Mount Omei, is a 3,099-metre-tall (10,167 ft) mountain in Sichuan Province, China, and is the highest of the Four Sacred Buddhist Mountains of China. Mount Emei sits at the western rim of the Sichuan Basin. The mountains west of it are known as Daxiangling.
A larg...
who is Dae-hyun Park
dva's friend & mechanic
shimada brothers: (borderline trauma dumping)
wuyang: 🧍🏻♂️
i didnt hear that as hateful tbh,, shes just mischievous & he clocked it.
Agreed I think they're just being playful in that interaction
and he is really good at gaming like dva?
idk tbh,, i think dva meant he & wuyang can be gold ranks together
thats what that interaction sounded like for me
when he was mcree he was named after a blizzard employee who did bad shit just give it up
no one gaf if it’s more “nostalgic”
his name is cassidy
My name is Cassidy
could be
my name is juno
And I'm WINSTON
Juno Teo Minh mentioned
shouldve been morgan imo...
cassidy
Is was never Mcree anyway bro
It was McCree.
But yeah its Cassidy now for a wholly legitimate reason.
My fave support 🥰
His original name was Jesse Mcree it had to be changed due to a lawsuit
Wrong again.
It was Jesse McCree.
lol
I was thinking of something of late. What is North Korea in overwatch universe? Like How did the Omnicrisis affect north korea (Or at all considering their isolated nature).
As we know North Korea Exists as South Korea is still called South Korea. So a North Korea should exsit
they probably will never tell us
I know. But its intresting to talk about none the less.
ye
What do you think its like? Like More of the same like in real life? Or something different
probably js the same
not the kind of country to change much
Good Point. I think during the Omnic Crisis they were fine. As they Probly did not invest into omniums
If they had any it would probably have been fully independent ones
Made by them to only function under ther3 rules
Its under the rule of Kim Jomnic Un
lol
It is a rather controversial topic so I doubt it will be mentioned
It'd be different
Korea would change over time
The north would be heavily affected by the omnic crisis cause of its Soviet infrastructure and its foreign policy
The south on the other hand would also face significant damage to its infrastructure but cause of its high tech firms controlling the country's r&d then south Korea would recover in matter of heats
Iow the north and souths gonna be heavily affected but north Korea ends up suffering the most
And yes north Korea still exists
Well, trying not to bring politics and economics into it, but if we’re being realistic, they probably got wiped out in the Omnic Crisis. A small country that refuses to ask for outside help, plus a number of factors both real today and in the Overwatch universe
Yeah, no. N. Korea would be wiped out in the Crisis
Or heavily hit. As north korea logically with south korea existing would exist. But likely just even worse off
It could also be that they had no omnics for anubis to control thus were barely hit
yeah theyd never tell us,, same way theyd never tell us how the rest of the middle eastern & north african countries dealt w the omnic crisis etc...
all we got is egypt & the oasis uni in iraq.
its pretty certain those had trouble
cuz they were right next to the main hub
And Petra in Jordan. Which is loosely Connected to Venture
Maybe Anubis spared them because they would have a relatively low environmental impact?
Unlikely all parts of the globe would've been affected by the entire crisis in some way or the other
And even if Anubis tried sparing them it would still have to carry out its plans
Seems like this was true at the end
So chat what are we thinking W change or nah?
Ngl I really think they're going to wrap-up the hashimoto sub plot real quick real soon, then kiriko's gonna join overwatch
Unbelievably excited for Eleni to join our narrative team next week! Can't wait to see what her talent brings to the world of Overwatch 🙌🏻
A new narrative team member 👀
Hype
Is it like that controversial outside of just North Koreans who can’t access the game anyway?
Ig it’s just safer to ignore it
I’d like to take into account that A) rising levels and natural disasters/extreme weather phenomena will have had an environmental impact on N. Korea well before the Omnic Crisis breaks out
And B) they’d no doubt be attacked by the giant Gwishin, which attacked surrounding areas around the China Sea and with next to no self defense against such a thing and potentially still a closed off nation at the time, N. Korea could very well suffer destruction on an extremely high level
Global warming is a different subject
Even if rising sea levels are gonna be a thing alongside the Pacific typhoon season it'd make little difference affecting North Korea
And the omnic crisis is gonna be different no either
i wouldn’t doubt if north korea is basically over in the ow world
i mean its kinda touchy in general
south and north korea both say that they own the entirety of the korean peninsula
they dont officially recognize eachother
I think the only weird change they made to political geography was that Hawaii might not be part of the U.S. anymore
or at least, it's part of the something federation of pacific or whatever
idk I'd think during the war they'd want to be under U.S. protection
I guess they re-recorded (or have been) her voicelines
please say she isn’t a brat anymore
Her recent voice lines have been softer and more akin to her cinematic personality
