(gyre can crit depending on the amount of shock status on enemies, on her abilities
yeah
i like the kit designs in it, they do pretty cool stuff
some of the ideas for hero concepts i also take from non shooters cuz sometimes they do have cool concepts
but this should probs go to ow serious cuz its hero concept stuff
ive always thought the way hollow knights soul and spell system works could be cool for a game
like
for a shooter
like generating energy that you can use abilities with would be a really cool mechanic for a char to have
alright i gave your idea a little look, its fun but alot of this feels like jq but burn and better. this also does not seem fun to fight against as for most dots are not fun
I’m sorry, but why is this conversation in lore discussion?
Honestly you may be right
i mentioned that just now yea
New character idea: guy who runs fast with a shotgun and can double jump
And he's from Boston
Again, not lore discussion
if you want you can take this to ow serious, i love talking bout hero design but this aint the place
probs reaper mauga yeah, doom has done a few but we dont really know
we know mauga and some other talon agents massacred a town and mauga is often sent for those missions
so id say probs mauga though reaper is very close. then widow i only dont consider as her usual job is just taking a few or one person down, not multiple or just mowing through like mauga and reaper do
also depends on what you call people
cuz if you count omnics aswell then most of the cast has huge kill count, if you also count controlled stuff then ram is infront again
what is this floating circle in the sky in survasa? ive never noticed this
Apparently according to Declassified it’s used to launch spacecraft
A giant worldbuilding book that’s stylized like an in-universe textbook. It has a lot of lore tidbits
I don’t have my book with me right now but I think it was spaceships?
I didn't read that section - I skimmed the page - and yeah I remember it being related to their space program
i love declassified cuz its legit done as an in-universe history book
all of the stuff in there are commonly known, and has some intentional wrong info like soldier 76 being dead n stuff
I know it’s really cute! I really hope they make more things like it
omg i just got declassified recently as an early birthday present :3 i absolutely love it. the artwork is GORGEOUS
true, and i love stuff like that cuz it sets in stone what is known and what isnt
100%
it shows what exactly the world believes that happened, way better than an actual matter of fact book imho as it makes it double as world building
it’s actually so crazy how much detail went into it
the world building it adds is just great
100%
showing how talon is basically seen as this shady but not "evil" org, but more as jsut something that has some... problems? but has had bad things happen and speculated to be linked to it
showing why talon wasnt attacked harder, cuz well. it wasnt globally seen as an "evil org" it was more seen as questionable with a bad past (like lots of irl orgs are)
are there other books that exist that expand upon the lore or is declassified it? ik there were a few art books but idk
the art books do, but its kinda outdated. if you like novels the new one is already out but it also is online now
from what ive read its really good, even made me interested in kiriko which for the lore people who know me is quite impressive
oooh, there’s a novel series ?? i had no idea
there have been a few, i own orisas book for example
cuz i actually love her lore
that’s so cool
i’ll deff have to look into it bc like ik only bits and pieces of the lore from like what i’ve read on the wiki n what not. i deff wanna get more well versed in it
the newest talks about a lot of different ones like ball, soldier, lw, sym
one sec ill give you a nice place to look
thank u 🙏
here, if you enjoy reading there are short stories (mini novels) comics and more
ascendant is the one with multiple heroes
train hoppers title is so sick that its on the train, sadly its not done in more
always happy to help mroe people getting into it, if you have any questions ask away
idk if i should ask her but has zarya and junkerqueen ever met face to face? and if so is there any lore of it?
I think junkrat n roadhog would make such a cute couple
i like this theory
no they've never met
Yo does Juno and venture fit into the lore? Like I’ve noticed they haven’t been as lore heavy as like rammattra
wdym do they fit into the lore
every character fits into the lore
they're just not part of the main overwatch vs null sector plot
If you're talking about the main plot, Juno is somewhat implied to be in the future, Venture is also implied to be part of the Conspiracy plot line later
Ya know something about the polar skins?
I’m curious to know if this one is related Polar Hog
Don’t remember if this is a Winter skin or if this was something hinting that Junkrat n Roadhog go to Antarctica
design-wise it doesn't seem related
the Ana one might not even be related, since it's mostly orange instead of mostly white
Could be an indication of same mission, different goals in Antarctica 🤷♂️
The junkers would be looking for a fun time just to scarp the head bot
Ana she’s following her own leads as much as Jack. One way or another, they could lead her to Null Sector’s HQ
did ana and rein brake up?
do they not love each other anymore?
they never seem to share lines together like they did before
No ships are actually confirmed as far as I know
they flirt, that's about it
they dont anymore
I mean that they were never together - they just flirted
If they're not going to do Invasion anymore, then can they at least write a book series?
One year has passed since the release of Invasion and we've got nothing
one year isn't much
and with the Microsoft buyout and mass layoffs, I don't think even they know what the plan is
The lore will never progress
Because blizzard is fucking stupid
And greedy
it like
the
it progrressed in the
pve
ramattra is doin stuff
and
juno like has cool lore with herrr
but being born on mars is like kinda silly like
her bones should be like weird i think
like the gravity is so much more on earth
wouldn't that make her stronger in Earth's gravity?
also, it's likely that the Mars base has artificial gravity that's set to Earth's gravity, like they have on HLC
no ?
that would
do the opposite
shes used to little baby mars gravity which is wayyyy less
oh I thought it was the other way around
ohhh that would make sense though
Dr. Chao had reduced bone density from going out into the lunar gravity frequently, but she's also much older than Juno
and wasn't born in artificial gravity
hmmm yeah
isntl ike even 6 months really bad for you like on the iss
moon gravity is like alot worse than mars i thought
yeah moon is like less than half of mars gravity
Mars is 38% of Earth gravity, Moon is 16.6%
it wasnt winter either it was iirc like early spring when it dropped
the polar skins are so lazy, most of the "legendaries" have such small changes
How are they lazy? They’re literally designed to be outfits worn for when Overwatch locates Ram and travel to Antarctica
alot of the legendaries are very VERY small changes in the look of the character and weapon, it fits more epic skins for most
i like the lore behind it though
I need healing!
i saw a fun question earlier somewhere else. which of the ow chars would you most want as a friend irl
for me it would be like Orisa Venture Lucio
orisa so you have a loyal protector anywhere when you are together, venture cuz fun nerding out about history n stuff + 0 baggage and lucio cuz just fun all around
I mean I want donuts so Kiriko… And Lucio as well cause he chill
Definitely Genji. He'd be awesome to hang out with. And you bet yo ass i'd ask him if i could try his dragonblade
Mercy would be really fun friend but super flaky for meet-ups. You'd have to go to her cause she's get distracted by a new project or saving someone.
I get confused at why legendary are legendary. They usually come with unique voice lines, skin abilities right? To be classified as legendary..or did they move that more to the mythic side of things? The kiri oni akin changes how her weapons look which is awesome! Do you think that's the lore behind the polar stuff?
:0?
Then I wonder if the heist stuff is them all going to look for Max
brig brig vrig brig
i woild be ber surprised if heist is canon
I like to imagine it is.
It's yhe only way I can justify the battle pass stuff existing.
It's all connected as sojourn says.
Like different points in the timeline we get to see.
umm
idk
it like doesnt really have any connection to anything idk
people get too obsessed with bp skins not being on theme and like they like to imagine its getting worse but theres like
a doc somehwere where its stayed like
pretty consistent
as a friend?
sombra
she’s chill asf
and arguably the most powerful character in lore
Why juno? Idk anything about her lore soo all my knowledge of her is she can shoot and go fast 😓
Yea she scales multiversal
DVA because we'd spend our time rotting at home gaming
Ramattra:
Juno solos
how so
hmm, how about DVA?
DVA aint from space
Plus juno can manipulate time by making people go faster
How about Tracer
She can come back to time right?
Nah they do that for visual effects
She just runs to where she was before
yeah that
ummm no
sombra cant like
hack people like she can in game
I guess those is kinda lore based, its more character focused but what are some things you think they should do to make kiriko less boring personality wise
And kinda for other characters ive heard be called boring like Zarya?
im not saying that
i mean like
if she wants to start a war
that can happen
topple a government?
that can happen
expose a politician as corrupt?
that can happen
infinite money?
that can happen
the list goes on
umm
idk
not really i dont think
she has informationb ut like
its not like everyone would just believe her and like
knowing information doesn equate to like
what?
well
if she wanted to topple a government what can she do like
its not like everyone would believe everything she says
blackmail the officials
withdraw funds
wipe vital servers
and more
idk
also like
mayube this wasnt intended but
when people say
most powerful character
they like
usually mean in a fightr
and sombra like
isnt strong than like winston or orisa in a fight
ik ik
in that sense i’ll say sigma ngl
ummm
idk
sigma like hasnt done anythingggg
he just lhas like
vague "gravity control" but like he hasnt done anythinggg
i think being able to literally fly and throw boulders at people with ease is a little more than vague
plus he was under VERY heavy containment after the accident
"most powerful" vague and done to death
"most influential" interesting and thought provoking
Most influential Probably doomfist
Overwatch as a whole was pretty influential, so Jack Morrison would be up there
You know, they tried to make a movie about the founding of Overwatch. Total flop! The guy who played Jack Morrison? What an amateur.
I think Ana has a different one because she’s not part of overwatch anymore
what
when has
he done that
In game
Well he’s doing it at the end of his origin story if you need something else
origin story is like
very stylizied and like
and
no he isnt wtf
his rock isnt even in the video at all
and it doesnt show him flyikng
we have "seen" sigma levitate a couple of pens, and himself
thats about it
this happened in the uhhhhhh reaper story btw
There’s a bunch of rock floating around him
yeye code of violence
but he doesnt fly around or throw rocks at people in his origin
yea i am too

If yall were a hero in game, what would be your role and have interactions with?
I would be a grave digger and i would clean up after the matches.
as roles i meant, dps, tank n supp
i assume ur dps
Propably a skinny looking rammatra Like Tank with a big leather duster
Big ol Carrier hauling them Bodys Back to HQ ✌️
I Always wondered what Happens to overwatch Heroes when the Fall.
I Like to think of it Like Theres literally a Person collecting all the remains and bringing them to Mercy for a pokemon Pit stop
None of this is lore discussion. Please take it to Overwatch-Serious or something
ok so what makes you think none of this is canon
i didnt say his origin wasnt canon
i said that its highly stylized and has to be taken with a grain of salt
also he just
doesnt fly around in it or throw rocks at people
alot of rocks is very different from the feats some people claim
origin stories are from the pov of the heroes
that is why ram is framed heroic at the end for example, and soldiers is black and white at the end, showing to him the world lost its colour
The campaign was so cool
I would happily pay 7€ for 3 more mission
its not cancelled so maybe in a few years
its baffling how little they got done in all those years
why is sigma tweaking?
does sigma have dementia
no, he doesn't
awh
he has dementia pro max™️
he bought the premium subscription
price: nearly get yourself killed by a miniature black hole collapsing right infront of you
realistically it’ll just create an explosion of several megatons but yk
this game is meant to be cool not realistic
discussion in eu3 vc
Bruh. Quit with the gachas while you’re ahead or just farm
dps and my role would be stabbing orisa to death with a pen
tbf like we havent been able to test if that works like that
so cant even call it unrealistic
What is the substance inside Ana’s nano boost that makes the characters go super sayain?
Pervitin
What’s that, and who made it, and how did Ana get ahold of it
Dam everyone stealin my girl’s tech like that😭
Yall probably talked about this before but, who would be the blackwatch squad in the reverse universe?
Last I remember, the squad had Gabriel (reaper), Cassidy, genji and Moira
Soldier 76, Ashe, Hanzo and Mercy if we were going for (almost) 1:1 opposites (or at least characters associated with the og characters), but the opposite universe overwatch isn’t as 1:1 iirc
That is a tough question bc Blackwatch, despite the name, is a def gray area and it's difficult to determine an opposite for a gray area 🤔
All of our baddie-leaning gray area heroes are in factions outside of Overwatch/Talon, except I guess Sombra
yeah
for some reason echo is in blackwatch in mirror au
they said this in one of the posts about the gamemode we got with it
i couldnt tell you why, but she's there
yes
Yeah in the Mirrorwatch patch notes she was called 'Blackwatch Echo'

some interesting Widowmaker interactions
the one with Illari shows that Widowmaker views her emotions as a weakness that she discarded
I found it interesting how Widow despises her original name
and the one with Sojourn tells us that Amelie had been with Gerard for quite a while (more than 10 years I think)
also, the Wayfinders use weapons/tools made by the Ironclad Guild
These discussions.......
Actually these won't help when u play the game just normally 😕
Does moira's "knot" player icon have any significance in lore?
it has a triquerta in it
The Triquetra was often used in Celtic art and jewellery to represent the three elements of nature: land, sea, and sky. It was also used to represent the three stages of life: birth, life, and death.
seems symbolically on-brand for Moira but nothing specifically has been mentioned in lore
apparently it also represents "the maiden, the mother, and the crone" which is also on brand for her
ahh ok
Very odd - seeing as Sojourn's "induction" (I'm assuming it's to OVERWATCH?) would've been a long while ago. And Amelie is only 35. Sojourn is 51 and I - admittedly haven't read her book but did familiarise myself with its contents - recall her joining the Canadian Armed Forces at a somewhat young age, and then joining up with Overwatch to take out the Detroit Omnium? And I do not remember how long ago that was but it was early enough in the Crisis, no?
iirc the Crisis was 28(?) years ago - which would've made Amelie like 7 if we go with Sojourn signing on 28 years ago. Am confused by this lol...
probably a different induction in that case
Sojourn didn't join Overwatch right away after the Crisis: she stayed on with the Canadian forces
she just worked with them and then wound up joining Overwatch years later
yeah
if we give 20 as the youngest Amelie could be with Gerard, and knowing Sojourn was a member of Overwatch before Storm Rising (8 years ago), that puts her joining Overwatch between 15-8 years ago
we know Mercy was recruited around 15 years ago, so Sojourn probably joined around the same time
Right I see thanks for clearing that up!
plat tank lfg or duo
support 0/ probably try to get moira and mercy to come togther for real science i'm sure there's a middleground. we can save people's lives!
yes me too. i want lore!
sojurn is 51!? goodness she's spry. You know i always thougt before I realized it was a scope that Ana when she zooms in to shoot was using a cyberntic eye when she shoots. only unvailing it when it's needed.
She used to have a cybernetic eye, it’s the one that was shot out
Both
The lore of Overwatch is shot dead y'all wrap it up.
!!shitposting
Shitposting will result in a loss of access.
will ow lore ever come back or is it cooked

it was like that during OW1, so we'll survive
She still does doesnt she?
it just feels super stale rn
like what even is the next big thing in lore?
wasnt the whole lore building up to pve for ow2
but now that got cancelled, what now
I need some venture lore stat
lfg two supports (must be girls)
i wish they tied her lore with anubis somehow
right now her lore is just shes an archeologist
Yeah
Did you know venture is non gender
they did show her discoverign anubis, but it couldve led to some story
oh yea i forgot
i am the silliest
Nope that’s why she has the eyepatch
wait what?
i thought her real eye got shot out?
her cyberntic eye got shot out?
why doesnt she get another cybernetic eye?
As a reminder of what she lost or something like that, there was a voice line about it in ow1
Ana: You're very kind, but I'm comfortable with who I am now. It's a good reminder.```
what exactly is kiriko's fox spirit power? is it magic?
also, does lifeweaver has some sort of glove on his right hand or is that a replacement for an arm?
Yeah. In Japan, they straight up use magic, can climb walls and have some sort of physics defying jump
sounds accurate
Seems similar to Symmetra’s hard light manipulating glove which would make sense for his to be a similar tool
wait so are the shimadas the only ones who straight up use magic with no scientific explanation
only Kiriko - Genji and Hanzo's weapons are tech
oh fr
i thought the dragons were spiritual magic thingys
but even though its tech they most likely had it far before the everyone else did
bc if its hard light or wtvr the shimadas have had it far longer
the dragons arent spirits?
The Hanzo story suggests as much, not 100% stated outright though
it seems to be more advanced than the rest of the tech everyone else has bc of the whole only shimada can control the dragon stuff
thats pretty lame ngl i would prefer if they were spirits
and it makes dragons like worse in retrospect because it would make more sense for hanzo to assume someone just like stole the tech rather than his brother being alive again
Well maybe the thing the sword needs to work right is the dragon spirit
hanzos story thing implies that they just built the tech wrong not that its impossible for them to have weapons like that
idk
it makes dragons less impactful and meaningful if its just a tech thing
I know I read the story but you can imagine that the secret ingredient they need is actually the dragon spirit if it makes you happy
the story itself doesnt imply that the secret ingredient are the dragons themselves
the story implies that the dragons arent special to the shimada family and its just theyre the only ones with the tech
making the dragons tech is lame and makes the hanzo genji short less impactful
I mean look “as if it was trying to manifest some secret power” what power? The dragons! :cope:
idk
it doesnt really make me happy to imagine that the dragons are like the secret ingredient because i guess i like feel like im coping and that its not really realistic(as in its not likely thats the actual explanation)
like
if someone stole genjis sword could they use the dragons? thats kinda what the story implies but like hanzo believed in the dragons short that wasnt the case
like if it was JUST tech wouldnt hanzo think "you stole my dead brothers sword" over "its impossible only a shimada can wield the dragons"
also only a shimada can wield the dragons doesnt even make sense like at all if its just tech
idk
i guess its a retcon
which
is
lame !
The lead of the narrative will probably be replaced and retcon it back at some point
🙏
"only a Shimada can control the dragons" is because those weapons were only made for the Shimada family
at least, until the Hashimoto kidnapped Kiriko's father and forced him to make weapons for them
That happened before the dragons cinematic though
Hanzo didn't know that the Hashimoto were using Toshiro's tech
and the Hashimoto don't have weapons that can summon dragons - theirs just have wimpy energy flashes
if they could manifest something, it would be a tiger
A sword is only as good as the man who wields it
That’s the take away between the Shimada and Hashimoto when you think about it
Question, actually two
- Whos the strongest talon member?
- Do Talon and Ramattra/Null Sector work together?
- mauga/doom
- yeah iirc
So does rematra have other abilities besides the gravity thing
And what's moiras fade form, is it a slight adjustment to reapers or is it technology based and is hers or reapers better in a non gameplay standpoint
1: there’s no solid answer to that, but impo, sigma
2: it’s weird because we saw doom talking to ramattara in storm rising but also in that one cinematic they were attacking a null sector carrier
so long story short:
idk and i doubt anyone else does
which cinematic?
The first part - end of Storm Rising. The second part - Mauga's cinematic - A GREAT DAY.
I think the whole point of A GREAT DAY was to show that Doomfist is using Ramattra/Null Sector, and that he wanted the power source Ramattra's using for his own purposes. Hence the whole goal of secrecy.
hey i wad reading that @polar garnet
i deleted it bcs it was just a repeat of what the guy said above lol
I think thread would be cool, are we allowed to make them as well without having to ask
Cuz keeping stuff like all supernatural abilities in one place would be cool
hmmm yeah
talon power levels are weird
like
mauga and doom have fought to a tie
sigma is like unclear he hasnt really done anything
iirc this was ages ago though so stuff couldve changed
but so damn strong
technically if they do well with teamwork etc, talon would win
Does ramatra have other abilities with his orb thingy, and is his extra limbs from the orb as well
ngl sombra alone could bring down overwatch if she wanted
just from a computer
And thinking about it sigma is a lot more overpowered in irl than in game, like imagine his ultimate being used on a real person, not even a body builder would survive
How does reaper stay conscious when smoke since he doesn't really have a brain,
And outside of gameplay can moira use her fade for extended periods of time, and is it tech based or her actual body doing it like reaper
and reaper canonically cant die right? even if the whole team dies, he'd be the ladt survivor
he can die
his smoke form isn't automatic, so if someone was able to get him before he could activate it...
like winston djd once
Tbh the way it's shown in that cinematic kinda indicates that the timing doesnt matter so i understand where the misconception comes fron
His body does it almost involuntarily but at the same time as winston's tesla cannon beginning to vaporise him so it's hard to tell
What is the thing moiras done to her arm exactly, I recon its probably just to do with her life draining but i do wonder if its actually her doing something other than that
I also wonder if she has any other gadgets we haven't seen,
A book about her research and her tech would be so cool
we don’t know much
iirc all that’s mentioned is lw saying how she’s “withering away”
my take is that the prolonged use of her sucky suck is slowly sucky sucking her own arm
I do also wonder if she's unlocked some new abilities with her enhancements, like maybe better eyesight, her right arm being stronger, and maybe age based stuff
actually that’s wrong
Tho yeah the withering away indicates she's got a shorter lifespan
I'd love a story all about moira ngl
we know her sucky suck works by basically killing cells one by one
additionally destroying dna
so i assume that’s what’s happening to her
How does the fade work
Like is it as temporary as in game
Or is it like reaper and she has full control
i think she has control but it’s not mentioned in lore
all we know is that it works same as reaper:
Oh ok
her molecular structure separates, and she can move freely during that state
and then can reassemble her molecules at a different place
same thing
yeah she’s one of my fave characters when it comes to lore
this game was never meant to be realistic
so that comes down to “they just can”
Ah I see
as a gerard enthusiast this specific interaction interests me
what is she referring to by "induction" here
she spent time with the Canadian Special Forces first
OH I SEE
i was reading a paragraph from declassified wrong
so this was maybe ~15 years prior topresent day
did juno land in that space ship thingy on dorado
I think her ship actually landed in Gibraltar
The ship on Dorado is just a teaser I think
Idk if I’m correct
how does zarya's weapon work? is it just "energy stuff"?
besides being cosmetics are mythic skins like different universes or what ? (sorry if this isnt a lore question)
It depends on how much the devs want to do each season. Starwatch and Mirrorwatch are separate universes but other seasons don’t have a respective universe, just a general theme
winston orisa
mauga doom
reaper
past that it gets more like shaky
like lw sym sigma are somewhere but their power level isnt clear
is there any explainations to these themes? like reaper being Anubis or junkerqueen being Zeus
Here to discuss Cinematic Genji solos overwatch verse
soldier but red
genji has been beaten in doomfist origin and stuff
Nerfed from dragons in that one
not canonically explained but the nerdier ow fans (including me) reckon it’s plasma
it’s called a particle cannon and it’s called that because it shoots a plasma beam of charged particles
as for her ult though?
i have no idea how that could work at all
her ult is a cluster of graviton particles
gravitons are hypothetical gravity particles
isnt plasma like
very hot
and like
how would that even kind of work like
i dont see the vision
^
wdym
there still should be a line of logic
lol
its SCIfi there should be some logic
the logic is that it's an energy weapon she ripped off a tank in the midst of battle
what's the difference
well that’s the separation between hard and soft scifi
and overwatch is soft scifi
soft scifi should still have some logic
it's the same reason Juno can exist on earth after being on mars/space her whole life i reckon. (because the story needs them to be able to so the character can exist)
I got to watch the liveweaver origin video finally \0/ 😄 i assume him being wanted in so many countries is related to viskar wanting his hands or however he gets his biolight power?
genji in dragons was later tbf
Explain Tracer then
Ah so after doomfist he knew he had to get stronger I see
Yes. Because he created his biolight based on Vishkar tech, Vishkar say that it belongs to them.
after getting shit on like that, yes
allthough doomfist isn't like most foes. the dude is strong and smart. not a great combo
anyway dragons Genji solos now
idk. he might not lose as easily as he did but i think doom will still win. doom won because he outsmarted genji
theres just lots of problems comapringn him
cuz like 1 hit and hes down
v any strong ones
but also 1 slash from him and theyre down
doomfist won last time by forcing him to have to use his blade on a car. doomfist will find a way to do that again. i love my boi genji but he ain't beating doomfist
true. we haven't really seen them fight. they both speak with such confidence but idk who's actually right
doomfist destroyed all the old units but who knows how orisa is compared to them
where? when?
orisa v genji is weird
hero of numbani was twice and iirc there was one other time
and doom was with backup
is it said when in the lore this happened?
ow1 or 2
once in protoype phase so 2 years ago, then later a few months, ow1
and since then orisa has gotten basically an army of doom punch blocking shield bots, upgrades, ehr spear etc
doom stands 0 chance in a 1v1 with orisa
yet he speaks with such confidence against her. i feel like he has a trick of his own up his sleeve now
sombra
but in 1v1, no shot
yes, was thinking the same
doomfist is someone who typically learns very quickly. either he'll learn not to fight her or a way to get around the things that counters him
thing is, he only got around it last time by using hostages
and by using his minions
that is one way he can win. get orisa's guard down. make her vulnerable
that is indeed how he got away, but in a pure 1v1 legit doom stands no chance
she now has hundreds of robots she can order, that have the same shield that could stop dooms punches
would be terrible to do. but i feel like if he did something to Efi. orisa would either lose her shit and doom could take advantage or she would be vulnerable and not defend herself
hmm. no way Efi built all these, right?
yes, WHENEVER doom can use hostages he can atleast get away, but it doesnt leave her vulnerable
i can see that. what the hell
alot of households in numbani have them
they probably don't mean too much to her. Efi does
basically they can work as personal protection bots, and orisa was named the commander of them eventually so its save to assume orisa CAN do as such
tf is this lore. only touched upon in comics or something?
in her newest mini novel
its now said that orisa can leap, run faster than normal humans + javelin + those lil things
she can shred through dozens of those omnics like its nothing too and be unscathed
shes honestly from what we know maybe even stronger than winston
now i wonder what a lore accurate meteor strike would be like. he kinda did it in his origin story but not really
but even that, even that is unlikely to beat orisa, cuz if it did he wouldve done that the first time they fought
why? cuz he would make an example out of efi and orisa to show that building your protector isnt good enough, and that its not strong enough
he would be able to "show" that using omnics for protection is unreliable and that you should be able to fight for yourself
that fits his ideals. theres 0 chance he would go easy on that
he hasn't done it once. my guess is it takes alot of power so he normally has it as a last resort but he has always lost quickly without the power to use it
thing is thats not true
the fights werent fast
cuz thats the entire way orisa wins
she widdles people down, its why orisa > doom
vs winston he lost fast. he was confident he could beat him. he underestimated him
yeah, but v orisa it wasnt
cuz the entire idea is that orisa can just take his punches
but my point is, this doesnt mean genji is losing v orisa though
cuz we know pure force and kinetic energy doesnt harm her, but we've never seen cuts
so there IS a chance orisa gets beat by genji
with how fast genji is too. could orisa even hit him?
that is quite possible, she could just sweep around or use her graviton min
we dont know for sure if her graviton is gone
if we haven't seen it since it got removed i'd say it's gone
but if genji can just one shot her with a slice, its more that she might not react fast enough as orisa is fast but isnt built on doing first attack, cuz she was made to fight doom where she can just tank it
if genji's dragonblade can pierce orisa's fortified body yeah orisa getting shit on
i am happy we finally got confirmed that the shimada stuff IS tech
so we know for sure kiriko is just a weird lil fucker
i'm not. what a lame explaination
its barely explained which i find sad, i love looking at the sci fi esque stuff and explaining the concepts behind it
but from what i can surmise, its probs an alternative to hardlight
that needs some kind of, technique, to be properly used
would be cooler if it was what it actually says it is. spirit dragons
ngl i disagree
i dont like copouts like that, cuz then comes the question "why the fuck do all japanese characters have spirit powers and no other char does"
they're the only one investing time in it. you see germans or indians studying the art of the spirit animals?
japanese warriors have always sought their salvation in spirits. been like that for years
its more that its a really odd choice, many cultures follow that idea too.
reinhardt also doesnt gain favours from a god
while being knight based'
though knights in germania often wore stuff of cathlic origin to gain blessings in battle
he's a crusader. he does what he needs to in order to redeem himself and make up for the sacrifice of someone dear to him
yes. and i'd love to see it for them too. but i suppose Japan fit it more
thing is i think its quite clear if it was the case why japan got it
confirming it's all just tech seems kinda cheap if you ask me
cuz japan myth is populair
egyptian mythology is also popular. so is norse, and greek
the problem with saying its all spirits would be that then you need to start looking at the greater world, why does no other country use spirirts. why isnt a well established thing that japan can somehow use spirirts, is it common, or is it that for some reason these all did it
the problem is that theyre not still followed as real believes by general audiences
japanese myth is still actually followed to this day
making it well, also in alot of culture that is populair in the target audience, like anime
kiriko is already a problem cuz of the spirit cuz it raises questions about spirits in overwatch
take Wakanda as an example. Wakanda has insane technology compared to the rest of the world and kept it a secret. the Tybor family in attack on titan too held the warhammer titan as a power they would use if nescessary but typically they kept it hidden. the same would be the scenario here. only the Shimada brothers having the dragon spirits in secret and only using them if needed
thing is, if it came from the believe of it liek we are meant to kinda think with kiriko, then there should atleast in japan be multiple spirits etc
ngl, i just dont think adding supernatural to a game that tries its best to make alot of the stuff make psuedo-sense, is smart
which would work. Japanese mythology and storytelling is known for its spirits
but then again the question arises
there are tribes that believe in their own myths do they have spirit powers?
I thought that's where the yokai gang came from? Different spirits
or is it just here. does anyone who believes in a mythical creatore get it, cuz for example ana ofcourse has eye of horus, so is that also with a spirit?
seems reasonable
nope
just kiriko has one
it was shown in her manga
the others are spiritless from what we've seen
and if its later confirmed that they do all have yokai spirits, thats even worse for worldbuilding
i wouldn't say anyone gets it. clearly it would be given to certain clans/families
still doesn't explain Kiriko tho. if her spirit fox is real, why isn't the others too?
well yeah, cuz they backed themselves into a corner ig
the others could be explained with tech
cuz they use projectors, had weapons and they come from there and are just dmg. kiriko had her spirit before she got weapons from her dad, it does stuff other than damage, has NO projector and just stays there + she can teleport
thats why, they cant explain kiriko at all with tech, so they just went whatever
kiriko has powers beyond comprehension, i get that, but Genji and Hanzo also have powers that doesn't seem like anything tech could really do. if it can do it then it's some insane tech
both of theirs can be relatively well explained, can you give some examples?
Genji is extremely fast. and it doesn't seem like it's any cyber implants' doing. judging by the green trails, it seems like the dragon is making him quicker. or is there some tech that just gives him a speed boost?
the green trails are aslo seemingly from his suit tho, it can be explained with his cybernetics
and his cybernetics legit leaked out green gas afer going fast
didn't it do that after he put back his blade in his sheath?
yeah, but now that we know its tech that also fits
that can just as easily be used as the reason, he uses the same tech as fuel, hence why he doesnt use his balde all the time, its also his fuel source
idk. it backs up my claim too. it would make sense that after using so much power with the dragonblade his body would have to cooldown a little. see how he attacks Hanzo the second the cybernetics go back in place
thats the thing tho, it can be explaiend by tech
as it could also just be used as a potential source for kinetic energy
especially as when he got hurt in doom origin story we see green sparks out of his suit
- green glow is all over his suit
and yes you could also say hes always using the spirit as a fuel basically, but thats besides the point as i was showing that it can be explained by tech jsut as easily
there is green energy in his body. but that could be the dragon's doing too. doesn't negate that
thats not the point though
you said it was unexplainable by tech
i explained it with tech
i never said that
doesnt seem like anything tech could really do
and keep in mind we are in an universe where hardlight is made and super accurate magnets are made from scrap
i asked why kiriko can do it and the shimadas can't. seems just like a plothole
it is
cuz kiriko got it from her grandma
thats the explanation
how did the grandmother get spirit magic? good question
the shimadas got it from their father. well as it seems anyway
theyll never answer it, cuz it would open a whole load of more questions then
nah
they got it from kirikos dad
the tech
and kirikos mom didnt even know about the fox spirit somehow
kiriko's family giving tech to a criminal clan. fitting. and kiriko over here wanting to right the wrongs
i mean yeah, the shimada were better to the people than hashimoto
a bad guy being better than another bad guy doesn't exactly make him a good guy
but kiriko has quite a few weird coincidences, she just feels like an anime protag
now that is true
well kiriko is bad then too
for example, how does Asa not know about the fox spirit, her mom just never told her but did tell her grandchild?
never said kiriko was bad (allthough she isn't the best) but her father dealing with a family of criminals is just funny
well, kiriko broke out hanzo (a former crimanal and presumed killer)
and beat up random people
she beats up Hashimoto and thugs. unless there's another comic i've missed
she does yes, however she did this to get a person out who also is a criminal
and has also attacked others who "did wrong" n stuff with her fox powers
as i said. isn't the best but isn't bad either. she does bad stuff for a good cause. same as some overwatch members do
Her mom also trained shimada
So both her parents helped the shimada with their weapons
her family helps a criminal clan. already said that. allthough i'd say training Genji and Hanzo when they were little is more innocent than giving the clan tech
I mean he seemingly mafe it before too and did it cuz shimada protected it from ruthless gangs too
the shimada clan are alot like fisk from spider-man you could say. bad people taking care of other bad people
But yeah i hope they just drop this spirit stufg
Cuz theyd need to give a good explanation to make it make sense in the world
agree to disagree. i think the spirit stuff is cool and they should've commited to it
i think they CAN commit to it, but theyd need to explain it more, maybe add a hero from somewhere else with spirit powers to also help explain it
cuz if its JUST japan then it starts getting more and more "japan is just special" feeling, even if they could say there are other places with it
cuz for example, alot of other myth mentions are the god programs who all follow different gods from myth
aka xibalba chernobog macaria and anubis
in the overwatch world america has super soldiers, britain has a pilot that can blink all around the place, india has that hardlight stuff, australia has insane junkers, Brasil has that sonic tech and so on. japan having spirit animals wouldn't be that crazy
if they actually commit to it and explain spirits in the lore im ngl fine with that, idm having magical properties i in fact love looking behind "magical science" stuff, like how magic could be used in certain ways to be better. its how i love looking at fantasy ideas myself
I wanna see Germany and Russia spirit animals eventually if it's like "every country get a mascot animal" type thing.
Could be a cool fanfic.
thing is all of these are rooted in the science of the game
and hardlight isnt exclusive to india, nor is super soldiers to america, or hell sonic tech etc
super soldiers were in different ones, like ofcourse mauga
i don't see them going that deep into it. they gave the japanese heroes spirit animals for a reason
thing is, reins is so damn easy
a lion
hes already a lion in look and all
multiple lion icons on his armor
idm spirits, but IF they commit to it they need to get into the how and why
what makes you able to use one etc
it wouldn't be too hard to explain. the spirit animals could be passed down to certain clans. the shimadas possessing the dragons and kiriko's family possessing the kitsune. could be others too
you need to explain the logic behind stuff, cuz otherwsie it just isnt interesting atleast thats how i see it. more rules make a cooler feel in general cuz that then makes you go oh so then thats how its used
then for example genji is a cool showcase if it were spirits as spirits with tech
how you can mix it
however if this is made to work, they need to explain it and imo have it in another hero outside of japan, to make it that it isnt just japan being anime, but that its an actual concept within the world
Aww there goes my idea of piggie for Australia cause roadhog.
Oooh the whole Leonhart thing in the shop too.
That would be cool if they did. Like if it's tied to a bloodline or something else and does the iris count as a spirit nowadays and if it does..then did all the spirits once exist then ascended like the iris did?
Maybe they gotta be worthy
ehhhhhhhh i mean the iris IS different
the iris is really odd, cuz it was just an omnic that somehow either was so perfectly coded that it gained sentience, or it just did. and it couldnt be replicated unless she litterally uploaded it to everywhere else
that would make it way more complicated than it needs to be
the iris is the closest other thing to magic
thing is, adding rules is good to a system, cuz it makes it feel grounded
for example: all hardlight comes from an projector source, this is a rule that we've just seen in action
but spreading the spirits to more than just japanese families only adds more questions and adds more to be explained
not really
cuz otherwise this is the question
"why only japan"
why would legit in all the countires with tribes, old believes, historical systems etc only japan have spirit powers
thats just a copout
because Japan is probably the country that is most about spirits. old japanese tales are almost all about spirits. either spirits or warriors
and alot of african tribes also have that
they also believe in spirits and do body paint, or alot of south american tribes too
yet Illari has no spirit
and if we got an african hero who uses a spirit animal then it would stretch that part of lore even further. you really think blizzard would want that?
they wanna keep the lore at a minimum. explaining shit when they have to. other than that they focus on the shop
and thats the reason why spirits is bad as an idea
if they arent willing to explain it, then they just shouldnt
just dont add spirits in that case
they added it when they actually cared for it. now they don't. if anything, explaining it as tech is the biggest copout
thing is, when hanzo and genji were added they also said it was tech
they only officially added spirits with kiriko, with no effort to explain it
care to share with the class?
one of the very VERY early blog posts said "theres no magic in overwatch" about the question of if the dragons were magic
before you say "spirits arent magic" kirikos origin called it the "magical art of healing"
do you not have a picture of it?
here you go
and that was from taiga, another person who was in here for long
this was also in twitter once
however heres the problem with that, theres tons of posts id need to skim through
but the devs have in fact said that before kiriko was out
then with kiriko they contradicted it
micheal chu has confirmed it isnt, but michael chu left, afterwards magic was added
heres from the interview
so in other words, it's possible the story's been changed
the person who said it wasn't magic left and the second he did they add magic to the game? seems like some shit happened
again though, that shows that when they added it it wasnt meant to be magic
kiriko was
hell it seemed in old kiriko teasers that she wasnt even supposed to know the brothers
sure, it wasn't meant then. have they said anything about it now tho?
only about genji and hanzo
and the shimada weapons
but kiriko cant be explained with that
doesn't make sense that kiriko's family would have a real spirit animal but the shimadas don't
and keep in mind, even hanzo got retconned cuz in HOTS it was said it came from his tattoo, and now its from his bow
its not even her family though
just her grandmother
not her mother
her mother even says it isnt real
her grandmother is family, is she not?
my guess is her mother is rejecting the kitsune and refuses to learn it. coping with herself that it isn't real
which is also a huge copout
again though, it doesnt make sense in universe in general
its contrary to alot of stuff, and cuz theres no rule behind it that its not even inherited either and also kiriko trained with her grandmother seemingly after she already got it
like, its so odd
and theyre unwilling to commit to it either, so the best choice now is to just act like it doesnt really happen and have kiriko be unexplained
gonna have to go with what makes the most sense. if you ask me, it makes sense that the kitsune is passed down and learned from generation to generation
thing is, that in this case its not even implied if thats the case
it just kinda happened
kiriko's grandmother learned it from somewhere, probably from her parents or grandparents. she probably saw her daughter not wanting to learn it and sticking with the path of the blade so she took it up to herself to teach Kiriko herself
thing is
it's an assumption
kiriko just saw it
from what we've seen before even spending significant time for it she just saw it at a young age
no training no nothing
which supports my claim even more that it's passed down
so if it is inherited, then asa wouldve atleast seen it and have seen some truth in it, or be able to see it on pictures they have with the kitsune in it
or the grandmother summoned it for kiriko
and why wouldnt she have for an like 5 year old asa
as i said. possible she rejects it and copes with herself saying it's not real. wanting to focus on the path of the blade
keep in mind they have a family photo with the kitsune in it
how would she be able to go "oh no thats not real" for something that others might not even see on it
its ngl just a plot hole one of the many
there was no real reason for asa going on and on about how it doesnt exist, they just wanted asa kiriko conflict
she's rejecting it for herself. kiriko knows it exists yet her mother says it doesn't
heres the thing though, you are taking leaps in logic then especially if she trained the shimada and then in ur idea would know of those spirits
she trained them to learn a katana. to use weapons. not spirits
the only way it could make sense is that its inherited that theyre sensitive to spirits, but not all spirits
its heavily implied she also helped with the tech or then in ur version, spirits
where
as hanzo comments on their imperfect use and how its unstable
in the same novel where its said that its tech
hanzo comments on the stuff being unstable cuz of the technique and later also cuz the smith is purposfully making them with "worse materials"
even so. the "tech" isn't the actual spirit. the kitsune is different. she didn't teach kiriko or the shimadas about it
i know, but again i was saying in ur version, i disagree with it in general though. if they want to make it work they gotta explain alot of stuff
rn it just feels to me like they went lets add a yokai and then didnt know what to do
i wasn't talking about "my version". that's just wishful thinking. i'm talking about the real thing right now
there its still dumb that asa wouldnt know, but again i think the reason is very simple. they wanted kiriko to have a kitsune and didnt think much further
they wanted asa to have drama with kiriko and couldnt make it about her being in a gang, or fighting to protect etc cuz it would be hypocritical, so she had to deny the kitsune from existing
there is logic to her stuff?? they explain it in her origin??
and its not like the plasma thing is like
a confirmed thing that doesnt make sense
its a fan theory that doesnt make sense
defending a fan theory of how somethingworks with "it doesnt have to make sense its scifi" is insane
So when are we doing the 6v6 test?
They had news about them being willing to test it to see if the community likes it
we dont know when.
wasn't it like season 14
its never been outright said.
Should've been an arcade mode since ow2 released 😐
Does anyone know where can I find overwatch cookbook?
Some online bookstore I guess?
try Amazon
i really wish they would make a show, or comic series, or anything
ik comics do exist but like, something for the main story
since they've scrapped pve entirely.
biggest mismanagement of any ip ever methinks
an arcane-style show for overwatch would be amazing but i doubt itll ever be done 😔
it would be awesome
what is the lore of venture
they're an archaeologist from Canada (with Mexican heritage) who works with the Wayfinders
I'm really new to overwatch, (started in feb, didnt realize there was lore til july) where am i able to find watch to read/ watch or is it in the game somewhere?
Watch on YouTube, read either online/buy the books/kindle
thank you!
it IS blizz. but keep in mind the pve hasnt officially been scrapped. its for now while well founded, still gossip. They could always get a new PVE team etc. until that door is shut officially they wont do anything most likely with a show or whatever
Overwatch Lore is More cool than playing in Game
i mean tbf
it happens more often than id liek to admit
I wish that We could See More About Illari
She is My second fav char in game if we talking about personality wise
yeah ngl shes kinda wasted
but instead we need 100 stories bout kiriko
of which 0 actually explain why shes the only character with magic
its confirmed to be tech
and zenyatta outright has a line saying it isnt
kiriko is the only magic user
Kiriko -20000 Aura
and why does only she have magic? good question, its not answered in her two shorts toires, origin story, mini manga or cinematic
Btw why she have 21 years?
30+ is minimum to fit to Hanzo or genji
She was training with them when she was Infant???
No no
She was just in Belly
🫃
well she was eleven when they disbanded so ig older hanzo and genji somehow saw a five year old as a childhood friend
happens to the best of us
So guys i think i ship Genji and hanzo
They know each other for so long
it make sense
You are Freaky
like think about it Genji X Hanzo
Genji: Where the arrow goes… i go with you Hanzo..
Hanzo: Genji… i didnt know you felt that way…
just ignore him he was acting weird in ows too
hes just tryna be annoying
i still find it funny kiriko never mentioned her dad in game while knowing he was still alive kep captive by hashimot
weird isn’t a good word bud. not you getting but hurt over fictional characters
No no he is pretty Funny tho
I like him😭
Maybe she dont like Her Father tho 😆 or just Blizzard forget to add something in game...
I think this second
nope'
in her new story it showed that shes trying to get him back
I would read these stories if they wasnt about Kiriko...
i just read it cuz hashimoto stuff
cuz my theory is that next hero is junker, hashimoto or los muertos
cuz mohawk and style + "new" map for hashimoto now has the mural changed with a tiger for hashimoto with it too, the dragons represent the brothers so having another in there..
Hashimoto in Game? Sounds cool!!!
id love it
cuz then hopefully we ca nwrap up the thing
- you could maybe truely go into the tech aspect cuz theyre using the tech from shimadas
so imagine a guy who has multiple weapons from japan all infused with the tiger
Sooo Tiger as Ult?
yeah, but imagine multiple weapons, like a naginata and nodachi
basically they could go into that all
also runs contrary to the shimadas traditional style where he would be future
I wish that Hasimoto Hero would be Omnic Or something
In Game we have really Few omnics
Only zen and Ram
Maybe Bastion count too
BC orisa and Echo are more Robots/androids than omnic
i actually made aconcept based on that, cuz yknow hanzo is tradition, kiriko is modern mixed with tradition, genji is more leanign to future but still some tradition, so i wished for hashimoto leader to be completely against tradition
not to be noobie, but youtube is the best place to learn of more lore? been playing ow for years, just never delved into the lore, but now i’m interested lol
id say yes, watch origin stories and see what you find interesting
not everyone enjoys reading n stuff
When I was Very little i watched Overwatch Lore in youtube sooo Yes
This is best Way
i no longer watch alot of vids of it cuz some people are unreliable
the best one hammeh stopped covering overwatch
stylosa when he has done it very often mixes it with his own opinions etc instead of purely covering it n stuff
some guy made like an hour long vid
but to get into, yes just watch origin stories, also pro tip: keep in mind all origin stories are from the heroes POV
sometimes things can be different than depicted as the hero may be biased, case and point ramattra is framed as heroic while hes waging world war, same kinda with doom but the designs tell otherwise etc
thats why the comics are almost always better to know actual lore, or the bios. cuz they speak outside of the bias from the character usually
and origin stories do miss crucial details, but to just get into it i stil recommend those
This sounds like Great Mix!
Btw I dint notice that Hanzo Kiri and Genji
Have that amazing match
yeah cuz at the end of the game i love thmeed writing
same wit hramattra vs mondatta, they are the opposites not zenyatta fro mwhat we've heard
and ramattra got out of hand as soon as mondatta was dead, aka showing the ying and yang idea, as soon as one is gone the other goes out of hand
though with ram its implied that he orchestrated it
thank you, i’ve been reading what i can online, but it seems to vary a lot. i’ll look into the comics and stuff too.
been putting in WORK lately tho. played like 30 hours within the past few days lol
theres also a helping hand in pins for stuff, and if there are any questions feel free to ask
@keen summit what ur fav char? Btw
Well its fitting to you tho
can someone explain kirikos fox I'm just curious
idk if ANYONE know this but can someone explain The Infinite SHotguns, i was looking and some idiot said that Reaper is a Nanotech Cyborg
no, gameplay is not lore-accurate for the sake of game balance
just like how everyone gets infinite ammo - DVa gets infinite mechs, Junkrat gets infinite tires, BOB comes out of literally nowhere
Reaper can dissolve his body into smoke - no nanotechnology or cybernetics involved
Well i know that lol
I understand now, there is nothing in lore that says That Reaper has infinite shotguns…. Thank You
What if someone breathed him in?
any girlies or guys wanna join a group to make new friends? DM me😊
oh trust me the infinite shotguns are canon
it’s showed in an interaction w/ junk
he’s the only one who notices it

Interactions are not entirely canon
any girlies or guys wanna join a group to make new friends? DM me😊
Yeah, basically magic. I believe in Shintoism, there are local gods called kami. A kitsune is literally a magical fox and yōkai; the kitsune Kiriko is attuned to is a young one specifically.
She is a shrine maiden of a shrine in Kanezaka, pretty much a priestess, that’s why she has the ability to support and use the Kitsune’s power.
any girlies or guys wanna join a group to make new friends? DM me😊
Try lfg
u wanna joinnnn?
any girlies or guys wanna join a group to make new friends? DM me😊
i still dislike that only kiriko has magic
Hanzo and Genji use magic
Zen possibly uses magic
nope
deconfirmed
its not confirmed that its tech
in last novel
and zen specifically denies that its magic
you mean when talking to mercy?
"perhaps what seems like magic, is just technology we dont yet understand"
thats not denying it, Zen never outright answers anything
not to mention that it is explainable in lore too
from what we know kiriko is now the only one who has any magic
which is annoying in worldbuilding
what is the novel with genji and handsoap?
and for hanzo and genji, its now been confirmed in the newest novel thats been released they mention that the dragon weapons are tech made by the father of kiriko
I feel like thats something they made up along the way tbh
i doubt it, the original writer micheal chu outright said they werent magic
he left, then seemingly came kirikos story
cuz he left before ow2 and kanekaza teaser never mentioned say her relationship with a yokai nor an actual yknow hint at anything like that
my only gripe with it is that if they make it they gotta actually kinda explain it in the lore, cuz if it stems from great belief then maybe add another hero from say a tribe who believes in certain deities, then it shows its a greater rule.
Yeah, Kiriko is a weird outlier
