i think that might slow the process down
also it might be waiting for an opportunity we wouldnt know the specifics
Well that could be what the Gwishin is
When was the “eye” watching venture? Was it in her comic?
Okay, but the thing is… Anubis would require another body like it’s original and the only thing that comes close are the other god programs, which have all been shut down and it’s very unlikely if it did manage to take one over that it would go completely unnoticed for so long
As to the omnics in the ECS and Russia, it’s more like they’re still following Anubis orders as they were preprogrammed to do. One factory was never shut down after all and the one in Russia was shut down, but suddenly and mysteriously reactivated
There are lesser, regional god programs so the “body” could be smaller if it’s a less complete clone modeled after the regional ones
I mean, I buy that for Russia but the Gwishin is shown to evolve after every battle implying there’s some ai involved learning and making decisions
Anubis didn't have a body
well, not a mobile body
it was housed in a supercomputer
I wasn’t implying it does, that’s why I put body in quotes
why would Anubis need to make a copy of itself anyway?
My point exactly
Anubis isn’t shut down. It’s only “imprisoned” and monitored 24/7
At one point, it nearly came close to escaping
exactly because of the fact that it was imprisoned
im just thinking like surely the god Ai would have a better contingency plan
maybe thats just me having wishful thinking
Maybe it increases processing power or something. I mean it regulated some on the ground command to the ravagers so there’s precedent for Anubis wanting to put some of its responsibility on to others
yes exactly but thats the hardware ... my thinking is that maybe it uploaded fragments of its intelligence onto the internet
The problem there is. You’re trying to compare Anubis to Skynet from Terminator. The difference between the two is that one had years to plan and adapt
a bit like ultron who also shares a lot of similarities w anubis
Anubis didn't think failure was a possibility, so I don't think it would have contingency plans
While Anubis jumped right into a war the moment it took control of one factory in Africa and learned from there
idk im still not fully convinced abt it being so certain that it would never consider anything else
anubis had a few years though
Well you’re kind of assuming it wasn’t planning the whole time before
Hey that’s from that video!
the omnic crisis itself was 2 years and then thats not including the time before that
Check pins
I know but it's sad this game isn't as story driven as it was originally

maybe the lore ecosystem will heal
It’s not assuming. Anubis was growing increasingly frustrated trying to do what it was built for because humanity was making it difficult. The moment the people in charge died from a system malfunction, nobody was around to monitor the god program and it continued its directive in a more extreme way. Anubis didn’t wait years to plan, it attacked first and foremost
but it had 2 years in the omnic crisis even if this reasoning is correct
it's suspected that Anubis killed its supervising team
The thing is… 2 years was enough. Anubis was winning the war. It always located where the world leaders would hold meetings and where Overwatch was based, forcing them to always move from one location to another. It had humanity on the run and no reason to worry about contingency plans
i feel like we're ascribing a sense of arrogance to anubis that only a human would have ... not a god AI
Hence why Aurora being used to break Anubis’ control was long shot that they had to do immediately before Anubis could figure out what they were planning
ik the official reason is that "oh it just didnt see it coming" but surely
you assume a god program wouldn't be arrogant
yes but computers think wholly logically unless sentience is a factor
presumably these god AIs are unlike the current chat gpt models we have rn where the mark of the maker is v apparent
like how else would u conclude that the best way to solve environmental issues is to wipe out humanity
Anubis was highly arrogant, but arrogant or not. It knew that it was winning the war against humanity. It learned from its failures and adapted from them far too quickly for humans to continue fighting against. So of course it would become arrogant in its victory
it's logical but theres 0 humanity behind that decision
but once again this isnt something that would happen unless anubis was partially sentient
it's maybe a reason some humans might make to logic their way as to why they won
but imo i still think it's too soon to rule out the contingency plan theory
there's no evidence for it
Anubis doesn’t have to be sentient to be arrogant. A machine can and will always underestimate humanity due to its own superiority
And that always becomes the machine’s downfall
failure doesnt necessarily need to come from humanity and thats exactly why planning in the case of failure isnt out of reach imo
true however i was moreso posing it as some kind of explanation for the conspiracy
assuming ofc it is some form of ghost AI which also hasnt been confirmed
im rly just floating ideas im not super fixed on it either ways
What you’re implying is that Anubis was smart enough to plan ahead for everything. But the fact is, it wasn’t
not necessarily plan everything ... that would require infinite computing power which doesnt exist
but planning in case of something happening to the main hardware (its "sarcophagus") isnt too out of the question idt
it wouldnt even need to necessarily be from humanity im sure as an AI it couldve seen thousands of possibilities that would lead to such an event
it's like if the gwishin can seem to constantly evolve
why couldnt anubis do this
Anubis had no reason to fear losing at all though. Even when the Awakening happened, Anubis still didn’t fear losing the war, regardless of the sudden tipping point. Especially since it wasn’t shut down after the war, only contained with no way to access anything outside its confinement
i think the moment of the awakening is exactly when something like said contingency plans mightve been formed
The only exception was one incident where it almost managed to escape while taking over worker robots outside its temple, but that was quickly handled thanks to Pharah and her team
surely at a moment like that the possibilities of a disruption would be raised significantly
Hey, if sentience removed Anubis’ control, how can it would take over omnics that are already sentient?
that's why they keep it locke up...in egypt i think? whre pharah guarded it?
if i remembe rright
yes
does Nintendo own Sonic?
no
If I remember… or is that Sony? Hmm
it’s Sega
Right right forgot there for a second
Eh. Still don’t see Sega making a deal for this tho
Which is too bad. I can definitely see Sonic Tracer
Along with giving her a pose or emote eating a chilli dog
Dam
I always wondered but what difference would the OW timeline be if Reinhardts master Balderich survived and joined overwatch like he's supposed to instead of Reinhardt answering the call
Baldrich wouldn't be a dogshit tank
double hammer action
Is mauga this op in the lore too?
hes like
top 5 lore wise iirc
~equal to doom
so probably worse than orisa and winston
thats not a lore question
I doubt that Balderich would answer Winston’s recall
Was mondattas relationship to zen just friends
He was his mentor…which is a type of friendship I suppose
i dont have the ss cause my page refreshed, but there was a reddit post with a bunch of " leaked" voicelines, alot of them were sorta cool but the one that stood out to me was this
"maybe i am the monster anubis created"
i think if it is real it could be a hint at a new ramatra skin, hopoefully a ramatra mythic in next season
idk what do yall think
Don’t people say the next season is a mega season
Who knows. It kinda becomes a pattern. Always one bad season then a good one followed by another bad one, depending on how people feel em
Last season was dope, but this was pretty weak. So maybe season 12 can make up for it
I heard someone say that the last mega season was season 6
Maybe that’s the pattern
We’re getting a new hero, map and if the Egyptian mythology season is next season, it’s kinda what Ventures adventures have been building towards I think
Interested, but it could also just be a ram line in general as he hates anubis but im hoping
I mean, maybe… but the name New Frontiers doesn’t exactly confirm anything
But considering there is a new map coming, potentially Temple of Anubis revamped, then it’s a possibility. Otherwise it’s wasted potential
It’s supposed to be a tank getting mythic next, so I’m betting my chips on Ramattra if it’s Egyptian mythology
Personally, Anubis Ram would be cool. Bc it would be a reference to the god program that built him
Yeah, but I don’t see a lot of customisation available for that
Theme of it doesnt matter for lore
Alternatives could be ra-mmattra too for alt heads and a pharaoh thing + origibal concept art all being egyptian and lastly that hes seemingly taking loose inspiration from moses, who was Egyptian
Ventures adventures has been building up to something about Talon doing something to do with digging up artifacts, I feel that would be more in line with next season
I hope so
I agree, Moses kinda fits ramattra more than Anubis, even with the lore connection
His general theming and story + design is a corrupted moses motif it seems
Corrupted? I think if Blizzard didn’t cancel PVE we might have gotten some 10 plagues esk missions
Guided by a "god" in this case iris, herders staff, a cloak, long hair, freeing his people from oppression, even his origin story has a parting at the end
No as in, a evil version
Oh Yh
Theyre not doing a moses skin, cuz his design is actually kinda inspired already it seems
Yeah, wandering monk seems to already be pretty much there
Also do you think they’re doing a mythic weapon this season
I highly doubt we’d see anything religious. This game has made a point to not use religion
And given certain… events… probably wise to not use any religion right now. Period
So I would not get any hopes in mind for a Moses themed skin for Ram
Im saying only that hes based on mosesit seend
As inspiration
Yes. But take my word for it, inspiration or not, it would not go over well with who knows how much of the player base
I’m just saying
I know
However, asian myth had actual japanese believes
Im just saying tho, ram seemingly is based on moses, a skin would suck tho cuz like, its like making a miko skin for kiriko
Regardless, I’m sure they’d do something like maybe either Pharaoh or Anubis customizations for Ram
And considering we have a hint for whatever is coming in October, they could make him a mummified pharaoh?
Or mummified priest. It be cool, bc I feel that would be a fun reference to The Mummy Imhotep
But whatever. We will find out in a few days
Wouldnt witches fit October better
That’s what I meant. October is witch themed
While these next season could be Egyptian themed
Although, that said, removing what I said bout good and bad seasons as a pattern
Bet dollars to donuts Mercy and Kiriko get recolored witch skins. Possibly Life Weaver too since he had that skin from the magical fantasy season
We got a teaser for the next season with a photo of its logo
It’s called new frontiers
And it has kinda like a Disneyland Tomorrowland sorta font
Definitely a reference to Juno
Still could possibly ancient Egypt because season 10 called venture forth also wasn’t completely venture based
Im starting to think if it is indeed on theme then maybe it's that 60s retro future vibe
It's close enough to juno's design and weve already seen a couple of sneak peaks w echo and orisa
But tbh i hope it's Egypt
Tbf i wouldn't rule it out ... the shambali are heavily inspired on Buddhist monks w zenyatta even using the same colour scheme as the dalai lama
I realise this is the kind of thing americans wouldnt care abt but religious imagery esp as a form of inspiration defo isnt off the cards
Sunyata is even a concept found in Buddhism
I foubt it is, cuz as said earlier venture forth was mirrorwatcg
For some reason abrahamic religions tend to be more controversial
But Moses has become such a famous icon even outside of religion I think they could maybe get away with it
I think if it's just inspiration like zenyatta and the rest of the shambali then it'd be absolutely ok
But I think Lifeweaver is 100% based on Siddharta Buddha, like I feel it totally mirrors his upbringing
And a lot of symbols like lotuses, fawn and the (Bodhi) tree
Because the player base is mostly familiar with them probably. Iirc the Indian players were offended by a sym skin that depicted a Hindu goddess
People in the west see Buddhism,Hinduism etc. as some exotic thing and don’t see whatever baggage a native practitioner may have. Also there’s a big difference between inspiration and a 1:1 reference
Lore wise, who’s smarter, Moira or Mercy?
I personally think it’s Mercy cause of the fact that she can consistently pump out healing from her staff using a formula that she herself created. Moira could also do that, but hers seems inferior to Mercy’s due to the fact she has to charge it constantly. You don’t see mercy having to “charge” every now and then which means her formula is consistent
I know gameplay doesn’t reflect lore and vice versa, but I think it’s fun to theorize things that happen in lore via what we see in game
They're equally intelligent and work entirely different fields
Mercy uses a formula that does the work for her. Moira's body itself can regenerate and damage other people because she altered her own genes to do this. Ziegler is a doctor in the medicine field, Moira is a doctor in the genetics field. They're both extremely skilled at their jobs, but work so different that also in their lore, they don't like each other
Also it is implied that moira uses the same stuff as mercy, i call mercy smarter cuz she created the healing stuff in her teens
need someone to make it 5 stack plat level eu pc
nah i dont think so
the different stuff i mean
mercy uses nanobiotics
and iirc moira directly repairs the cells through genetics
its really unrealistic so it doesnt go into detail
No she doesnt
She has outright said its not nanotech
My reasoning of theorising as such is that they work at similair styles, one discomposes at the base level, while the other recomposes
She doesn’t. Her staff produces energy that enhances the body’s recovery system by a ton
And we see her change it, also ana seems to use the same, which then would make sense if both were in overwarch
I remember that Ana actually stole Mercy’s formal and used it to make her bullets
She didnt
From what we know
The weapon she uses was a prototype, that mercy despised
There was an interaction between them in ow1 that said exactly that
Ah then forgot bout that, but i also believe it fits moira alot to basterdize existing tech cuz its how real progress hapoens too
And makes their mutual hatred feel even more interesting
True
She nodded and watched on with amazement as her wounds knit closed. “It’s
like magic,” she said.
“Science,” I said with a smile. “Much better than magic. Have you ever heard of nanobiotics?”
“Is it like... little machines?” She made a little motion like there was a cloud
of flies.
“Not quite,” I said, feeling the momentary pang of disappointment that a
technology that could have revolutionized healing around the world was basically
unknown to most. But there were more important things. “I’ll explain it to you. But
first we need to go to safety.”
from mercy's novella, which is canon
That’s why I would say Mercy is smarter. Moira just adopted what Angela already made and just made it fit into her body via genetics.
Ah yea, but what says moira isbt using the same
Cuz at the end of the day its healing and breaking down organic tissue
Moiras decay does the opposite
Moira is also very smart, its more that she did it all later
Mercy developed her tech in her teens
Moira even if she did it on her own seems to be around 25
Not super young thats for sure
Yeah I would say they’re both pretty gifted but mercy takes the cake for being smarter
Idk about that since I haven’t read his lore
But yeah even mercy seems to be impressed by it via one of their interactions together. Though I would only argue that he’s as smart as her, maybe more but idk
True
And id argue more so than mercys
Tho if we wanna compare his intelligence to mercy’s then we have to consider his age at that time like we did with Moira
Thats the tough part
We got 0 clue
Dam really
What’s his current age?
Maybe we can subtract it by like 5 years as a close approximation
31, so then also around 26
Maybe the lw experts can tell me bout what was said in the short story
All I remember from it was him holding out his hand to a deer and that’s it
I gotta rewatch the shorts they’re so good
No i dont mean that
I meant from uhhh
One sec
Rebuilding ruins
Im reading it through
O!
Eleven years
So he was 20 when he made it
Hm
Roughly 3 years difference from when mercy joined overwatch
Well he did base it off or perhaps was building off of hard light which was already in use
He like made a variation of it
Mercy made her thing from scratch
Still I would argue at most they’re roughly the same intelligence
Still though, organic material from light
(Tho that’s probably cause I’m a bit biased towards mercy lol)
Yeah
And the line mercy says implies there wasresearch before too
What line
As she says "ever heard of nanobiotics"
So that means that someone COULD know about ut
But ngl, practically all heroes are smart
VERY few are average or below average
Hmm, not entirely. Even she says that it’s an obscure thing so idk if that implies much
I mean its obscure, but it means there was some research, just not on her level
Yeah but we’re talking geniuses level. Like scientists
Chronal accelerator
Sigma is also there but yknow
How much he keeps we dont know
I also hate how much peoplr glaze rams intellect and power, when we have nothing to imply either
Ran is quite smart but not some genius
Nor is he ever shown super strong
He’s a good leader and commander which does take intelligence, just in a different field
Ik, but so are many others
And evsn then
Ram has shown being a faulty leader too
Aka when everyone left him
Let’s be honest. She should at least make him a bit smarter than other characters. Cause, y’know, he’s supposed to be the main threat
Ngl i disagree
And this is from a ram fan
His thing is his overwhelming numbers and offensive
- that hes hard to find
Hes a good strategist like all commanders, but the thing is he doesnt need to lead as all his underlings are drones
Hmm
Well yeah that’s what I said. They should make him smarter and an actual threat
Thing is he already is
Cuz he has endless numbers
Its like fighting an ant colony, its endless offense
Hes attacking everywhere and the threat is already there
And hes not the main threat either
Doom still is
I guess so
Cuz well, ram can be reasoned with if omnics get equaloty
Ram would sell doom out in a heartbeat to help omnics
Same for the other
Doom is more of a cartoonish villain and I like it
Hes really not
His motovation makes sense + fit the theme
The most cartoonish is honestly reaper
Cuz reaper is legit just angry revenge grrrr
Doom has a goal for a better future in his eyes
And a better future is overwatchs thene
Reaper is just the scorpion of this franchise
He’s just pissed and fights while he’s pissed and just overall pissed
Thing is, it also fits as a mirror to the theme
Reaper is stuck in the past so shown as bad
The evil characters generally are about being either stuck in the past, wanting a future through bad means or by not caring
Interesting, I guess, by that sense, the theme also correlates with Ana who’s shown to let go of her past mistakes and faults and learn to keep moving
Yeah, soldier is also stuck in the past and is shown as grey
Most others foght for a better future while accepting the past
And with solider who’s semi stuck in the past and wants revenge but also still kinda cares for people
Soldiers thing is that he believes his future is gone
Oh really?
Kinda
Its his theming
He wanted to be a hero to the people
But now his org got shunned, he is dead and he gave up everything else for that future that he cant achieve
Soldier is actually very depressing
Yeah
Imagine throwing away your life, your love, etc for a job for a better future, just to have others fuck it up for you and then have your org shunned
Dude just can’t move on and stuck between taking revenge and doing it for the sake of good
However ngl kinsa hot take, i love having someone like venture for once
Not every hero needs super tragic stories, why? They honestly get stale
Yeah it’s a fresh breath of air in the midst of all of this
Fir example
True, and Overwatch gets its charm from its variety of characters that all gave distant abilities, lores, personalities, etc
We had legit 6 tragic knes for ow2 back to back to back
That’s how I see it at least
Jq ram mauga illari lw kiriko and soj all had quite tragic pasts
Venture was finally one who just, enjoys what they do while fitting into the story by finding Anubis
I wouldn’t call Kiriko’s story entirely sad
Sometimes you just need, a person. Cuz it gets predictable afterca while
Or tragic
I would, though its easy to forget. Her dad got kidnapped, she believed she lost a childhood friend cuz his brother killed him
The thing is that they dont show the impact at all
Oh true XD.
She NEVER touched on it in any main media
She has a tragic past but its done so badly that you forget
Legit im hard pressed to call any not tragic in sone way except for venturr
Mercy ig
She just worked well and got into overwatch
And that’s a question I’m having. Should they? I mean she never shows remorse for her lost dad that I completely forgot about it. Maybe at least show her at a shrine paying respects to him as a little moment
Her parents died in an airtsike during the Omnic crisis and she was raised an orphan..
My point exactly, she never adresses welk her kidnapped maybe dead father
Ah forgit
Doom tbf isnt tragic either
He lost his arm which resulted in him abandoning the sport he used to love the most
His gauntlet isn’t just a weapon
That’s his other arm cause he lost it
I know
Its more that he instabtly got it replaced
Cuz hid parents, and only stoped cuz the competition wasnt good enough
Or well
There were no challenges
But yeah still tragic ig
Then honestky i got nothing
Juno seems to have a non tragic story
Like you try to think of the happy ones like mei, well no, lucio, also no, tracer, absolutely tragic
That is if her mom wasn’t one of those frozen in Mei’s crew
Maybe, so far it does seem she just wants to explore, but it could be she felt super SUPER sheltered
Doesnt make sense timeline wise
Shes likely born on mars
I’m talking hypothetically cause we don’t know yet
Well its verrrry likely she was born on mars
Cuz she knows practically nothing of earth
Except efi does, and efi is her backstory
Needing to choose between a hostage family member of efi or chasing the one shesmeant to defeat is also quite sad
I know they’re heavily connected but they’re still different characters
Oh I never heard of that
- her at first almost letting people die
Yeah novel hero of numbani
She before she had compassion modules almost let a group of people die for her mission
Later doom was cornered and used efis cousin as a hostage, who is part of talon
It’s a difficult decision. It’s not the same franchise but Optimus prime also let some of his men die sometimes
Well, can’t think of anyone else without a tragic backstory
Venture seems to be the only one
For now
Yea
Space ranger will likely be kinda tragic ngl
Just cuz
Imagine being born on mars and knowing nothing of well, earth basically
Only knowing from books
But its very unlikely her mom was one if those as its implied to be jiachi or ehat her name was
uhhh not really
the doomfist gauntlet isnt his arm
he has a cybernetic arm apart from the gauntlet
Orisa has a non tragic story??
that's her, pummeled into the wall of Numbani airport by Doomfist
(Efi bought that OR15 and turned it into Orisa)
Yeah but this was before it became orisa
it's still part of her origin story
she has a voice line saying she remembers being defeated by Doomfist at the airport
Yes. Not to mention Orisa has become so much smarter now too
No doubt she’s got her memories together almost like an Awakened omnic now
Both Orisa and Echo make me wonder if the story will eventually touch upon another Awakening type event
Or solving how it happened
I think echo might become the first AI to gain sentience somehow post awakening
It'd make sense considering she was liao's final work
She's already sentient , same as Orisa
They’re not sentient
Their personalities are programmed by Mina and Efi respectively, but they’re also meant to learn and grow
wasn’t the whole point of the awakening was all omnics becoming sentient?
only the omnics who were alive at the time
both Echo and Orisa were built after the Awakening
Yh echo is basically a mix of all the personalities she interacts w up until a certain point
Primarily this is liao but she also has a bit of cassidy in her
Does dva have anything tragic?
I mean she's in the military at an incredibly young age
It's not rly tragic per say but it's rough and shes indicated to he overworked
Although she seems to think she can cope w the pressure
She's also a celebrity
This asw
Well according to the cinematic short, we saw a brief instance of her getting like ptsd from one mission.
Idk if that’s actually tragic or not tho
True
It's defo not ideal for sure
There's tragic and trauma
Thing is tho you'd be hard stuck to find a single hero story that doesnt involve some level of hardship
But she is a young hero and is the best fighter Korea has so that must be putting so much pressure on her
I'd say they're different
Maybe but still the point stands
It's often through tragedy that we as humans grow to become to fullest potential of ourselves
So it's natural to see a lot of hero stories that involve tragic backstories
Or big bumps in the road
Some characters have pressure to achieve things like dva and ashe
You can kinda split up the characters into a few sections with some overlapping
In the case of ashe her tragic story is a massive lack of affection from her parents
Yh for sure
Theres also the q as to whether said tragedy can be boiled down to a "single event" or not
True
On one hand u have tracer's accident, illari's accident, sigma' accident, winston in the HLC accident
On the other u have ones like ashe, dva, cassidy which tend to be more drawn out over time
Then u also have characters like reaper and soldier 76 who make it even more complicated because theyre characters who have been around for so long theyve gone through multiple iteratjons
And you get the slower consequences of war for rein and torb that have seen many friends die over the years
19-21 isnt that young for the military
Sojourn and Soldier both enlisted at 18
Brigitte is the only hero without any hardship or personal tragedy
I'm just saying, enlistment at that age is normal
It is but it doesnt stop it being v young
whether it's a good thing or not
I understand where youre coming from in terms of the average
"very young" would be like 14-16
But from the pov of mental trauma
It's extremely young and without the mental maturity to rly process much
For evidence on this just reference your average 1st year uni student 😭
This just becomes child soldiers innit
Yet***
Shes practically just started and if sojourn is right in that she's gonna be primed for a future leadership role
I doubt she gets to that position unscathed
man i will never let dva lead something
ingame OR in lore
i mean tbf she doesnt even currently lead the meka squad
but i think it's moreso the character qualities
cassidy said shes a lot more like him when he was younger and i think that says quite a lot
Baptiste would never be removed from the lore right?
they would never remove any hero from the lore
Ok good thank you
unfortunately (to hell with hanzo)
why do you ask
Was just making sure they’d never make any rash decisions like removing the #1 support hero in the lore
lol although this might be outdated at this point (it was papa Jeff who said it years and years ago at this point):
If a character ever dies in the lore, they'll still be playable in-game
And I suspect that even IF a character dies in lore that it's not the last we'll see of them in the lore due to flashbacks and stories that take place in the past
Look at Mondatta or Gerard or Dr Liao (I know theyre not heroes but..)
I'm bored I might make a tier list of likelihood of heroes to die in lore
But I doubt Baptiste is a likely candidate for death, imo he's probably among the safest
tbf talon want him badly since he’s a defector
and although they would prefer capture widow did say she just wanted to kill him
You're not wrong, he is in a lot of danger absolutely. However I am more talking from a meta, story structure and character development standpoint
Rein finna die of old age soon 💀
Nah sigmas never die and ana will probably just fall down the stairs or smth
Mercy res?
?
Like I don’t think realistically anyone would die of old age before the age of 120, I mean most scientists estimate people born this year might have an average lifespan of around 120, and Reinhardt would be born in 2013 or so
Mada mada moment
Tbh if mercy rez was in lore we would defo know about it
mercy rez in lore is the thing she does to mei in zero hour
CURSES i forgot im not a regular anymore
erm actually she heals mei
you fool
thank you doc
that's what res is
it's fully healing someone when they're incapacitated
it uses the same visuals and voice line as in the game
not a literal rez
its more of a "revive" the way you do in pve
mei was downed, mercy healed her so she could get back up
so it's not a resurrect
Hate to break it to you, but Mercy can’t bring anyone back from the dead
You’re either able to be saved or you’re dead. Mercy can only do so much realistically
Her rez is really just her tech basically being able to close up wounds and injuries in seconds or minutes to a degree anyway
PvP gameplay isn’t canon to the lore.
well that’s no surprise
sojourn killing reinhardt in a a theme park 17 times over will make a fun story
is rez canon?
Yes. We already covered this in the conversation just above
you're all very stupid tbh
TRUE
That's kind
i have no idea why people insist on calling what she does to mei in zero hour res it just makes everything more confusing
like is it ever referred to as res in any piece of lore
why do people call it that
bc it gives someone who is incapacitated and unable fight a quick burst of healing energy to get them back into fighting condition
resurrecting someone form the dead is explicitly not canon
now this is in no way canonically rez but it isn't a bad theory
there is at least a solid basis
it has pretty much as many parallels as you can get with in game rez while remaining reasonable
Proof?
idk
it seems like
i sent you it
Well I've been proven wrong
ngl if shit like pulse rifles and energy weapons exist why do people like mccree and widow still use guns
they seem old fashioned atp
does soldiers gun not fire bullets?
no
Lucio is simultaneously my favorite and least favorite support
go on
it took really long for me to find this out
a lot of datamining and unused voicelines
Well thanks for the work
anything to further the lore discussion
uhh
thinking of questions to spike up tasty conversation
fair
mwt
?
o
you’re baked
im hitting it though lowkey
it isn't explicitly resurrect
it's just imo basically the lore equivalent
so for all intents and purposes it's 'rez'
yeah the people who i think shouldnt call it that are the people like in this channel, its confusing for new people imo
i don't think it's that big of a deal
literally like a few messages ago today someone was confused abt it
ive seen tons of people be confused about it
the only person i saw 'confused' was someone obviously trying to be difficult and arguing in poor faith
and half the point of this channel is to clarify things like this
it's discussion about the lore
Literally the only people who get confused are people who think the PvP of the game and every ability itself is absolutely canon
its very easy to make it a thing that doesnt need clarification if you just dont call it the name of a non canon in game ability
yeah but what else would we call it
when it's almost explicitly intended to be the equivalent of an existing ability
imo rez's are healing people up from disabling injury and the souls thing is censorship to prevent hurt bodies from being in the game
rez is the best name we have for it even if it isn't explicitly a resurrect
If people get confused because they can’t differentiate between game and lore, then that’s a personal problem that people have helped with here
gameplay and lore are intrinsically linked in the fact that lore inspires gameplay
it resurrects their ability to contribute to the fight
exactamunde
What else would you call it then? Mercy can’t bring back the dead and literally using her hand to get her team back in the fight
could be nano tech?
stemming from a hand gesture?
but i could be wrong
i don't know much about the lore
me when the, when the when the, when the when the when the when the
can anyone explain to me how and why echo exists. i think i saw before that shes like somebodies conscience or something. however i dont know much about the lore of it etc
cassidy also has a voice line saying to hanzo that he refuses to use pulse rifles etc
im pretty sure ramattra mythic skin is lore accurate
she was designed by dr mina liao, aka the lady that was part of omnica corp, and created aurora and the omnics. i'd recommend watching Echo's Origin Story trailer, as well as reading the Mina Liao Project Echo Transcripts on the overwatch website - gives you an insight. basically - liao wanted to do another aurora, but there were a lot more restrictions put in place
and her lore page on the site
finally
i am free
i just got a 1 hour timeout for posting a marked down message
i tried to send it again w/o markdown when the mute was lifted
then i got another 1 hour because of spamming
anyways
boom
i made this a while back
he may be too op may not be
idk
you guys are the experts so
rate
plz
lol
this wouldnt really go here since its not really related to lore
but the one thing i'll say is. why is he 16
every omnic was built either before or during the omnic crisis, which started 28 years prior to the current day
echo and orisa are exceptions only because they quite literally Aren't Omnics; they were neither built by omnica/anubis and are not sentient since they were built after the awakening
youd be better off making your character in their late 20s-early 30s unless you have a very good reason
alr
Reinheart is 12 right now
We got 6 more years to techno polka
The best band of the 2030s!
ummm its like
we dont relaly know the exact year ow takes place
Iirc they have it narrowed down to either one of two different years that are 4 years apart
Based on what was said at the announcement of OW1
And Junkrat's birthday
Idk, me personally I don't really care or think it matters exactly which years events happen
Rather it's more important the amount of time that lapses between events
It's obviously "some time in the future" given technology advances. If they put a date it will eventually get caught up to. Which is also fine. The only quibbling is when the history runs too long for characters to realistically be alive but..eh could always say future tech keeps people alive longer.
i heard something about 2077 for ow1
and apparently ow2 is set 2 years after
so 2079 maybe??
If you think about it, if sigma regained his memories he'll basically be a huge complete threat that even overwatch nor talon can stop him if he was too go Berserk
And the only person who has a small chance at stopping him is only sombra
Did sigma lose his memory? I thought he was just being manipulated by talon or something
he didn't lose his memory
he's just out of it half the time
and he doesn't have full control over his powers
Does anyone know here maybe, when did cass lose his arm? Was it during the deadloxk thing with ashe? Idrrr
he lost it some time after Overwatch was forced to disband
we don't know the story yet
Ahhh
we do tho bob ripped it off
nah altho ik the line you're talking abt
yeah
"I'm gonna rebuild BOB and I'm gonna have him rip off your other arm!"
thing is tho is that this is more likely just a snide comment made by ashe that acknowledges the fact that cassidy has 1 arm
rather than explicit confirmation that he (BOB) did it
that is pretty specific for a 'snide' comment
not rly because it still makes sense even if BOB didnt do it
it could be that ashe knows how cass lost his arm tho
true but a lot of stuff points to bob ripping it off
idk i think cassidy seems too friendly towards BOB for someone that supposedly mightve done that to him
he even says sorry to him when he has his head off
regardless of that i think it'd be natural human trauma response to have some sort of reaction
absolutely
same way the weather doesnt necessarily have any malicious intent but you'd still react badly to something if u were caught in a natural disaster in the past
yh it's part of survival instincts
comes down to the basic "ate berries felt sick, stay away from poison berries"
thats a heavily simplified version of what happens in the mind
yep
BOB did not rip off Cassidy's arm
We don't know how he lost it but that's not what happened
Wow is Orisa really not sapient?
Because Efi rebuilt and reprogrammed Orisa to be the hero Numbani needed
Instead of the cold unfeeling robot she was before
The OR-15s did more harm then good when Doomfist attacked. Uncaring towards civilian casualties as long as they did what they were built for
But the omniscient third person narrator tells us that orisa feels jealous of the junies in her short story so that would mean orisa genuinely felt those emotions. In what world is a thinking feeling being not sentient?
Efi programmed her to have a heart. Orisa wouldn't have much of a heart and be a hero if she didn't feel emotions
which we saw at first as she almost let civvies die
cuz well, she didnt have in the words of efi her "compassion module" installed
I'm aware. Not the guy to tell that too since I'm not asking bout her emotions
i was just further elaborating on ur point
sorry for the mention. but yknow i did say "which" which is to elaborate further
Sorry. But you right all the same
no worries mate
bob he couldnt have
the timeline doesnt match up
cassidy left the deadlock gang after being arrested and he joined blackwatch, he only lost his arm post blackwatch
and in reunion he doesnt have his arm, he wouldnt have seen bob during the time when he lost it
What does the lore say about sentience?
it says that Orisa and Echo aren't sentient
And other than that, there's no real definition given other than they (awakened omnics) seem different after getting sentience
It's vague
also they use "sentient" but mean "sapient"
all living things are sentient; only beings capable of rational independent thought and self awareness are sapient
I like to think of it as Orisa and Echo are aware of their programming and act according to their programming even though they're aware of said programming
which so far is only humans, but an argument can be made for cetaceans and great apes, and in the Overwatch context, Awakened Omnics
Whereas omnics can just freely choose what they do, have actual preferences and self-reflection, for lack of a better term
Declassified mentions that Winston had to undergo testing to prove his sapience and be declared a Person
Is Numbani a city or a country
hosting comp we have 2 support 1 dps dm me 3/5
hosting comp we have 2 support 1 dps dm me 3/5
i believe its a city in nigeria
City state i believe
It's outside of nigeria and seems to function as an autonomous region
I like to think of it a bit like singapore or monaco
There’s apparently some leaked images from the xbox website from the new season
It’s confirmed to be Egyptian
But the mythic skin isn’t ramattra, it’s reaper
that's speculation
Not really, it’s pretty much news
it hasn't been confirmed who gets the mythic
I have the images I just can’t send them
it's only speculated
The Xbox website leaked it
they leaked an image
Ok
Yeah
I mean, I would not be surprised if Reaper was getting the mythic as Anubis
But still stand by Ram getting it would be more ironic
bit wierd that they're doing a 5th damage hero before a 4th tank
I think they’re trying a new pattern
Instead of what they were doing before, now they’re doing two of the same role
Well, it could also be that tanks don’t get much love. Even despite the recent health rework
Idk. It could just be Anubis Reaper was always the plan, but if that was the case, then maybe the Egyptian event could’ve waited or something
Regardless, the images look pretty good, but I can’t say the same for anything else yet
However, I do hope Venture finally gets a themed skin for s12
Wow they really daf about Venture do they
Wait, what was the mythic weapon at the end of the trailer
It seems it’s going with the bound demon theme, but this time something to do with ice
It’s like a really big sword
i'ts the Lich King sword, Frostmourne
(from World of Warcraft)
Collab skin for Rein, don't think they'll give Rein a second Mythic weapon immediately after getting the first one
They can do some WoW x Overwatch, they did it for Diablo IV last year, and this year, it's a big WoW expansion
Damn
As a rein main I feel pretty satisfied with his skins recently, at least he’s getting some love
But I’m 100% sure we’re getting a mythic weapon skin this season because the announcement on the xbox website said mythic skins as in plural

This is the season description
Weapon skin is Ana
It could be a full skin
Yh it’s a collab with WoW ig
Isn’t that Set?
Before now it wasn’t confirmed
Yeah the bike was from 1976. Though I do suspect it was kind of an asspull internal retcon but I have no evidence of that lol
It works so
Yo! Anyone who seen the S12 trailer, gotta say, it look pretty good. Still better then S11
While I like the Egyptian themed skins, I think I’m more interested in what look like mobster themed skins too
It be kinda cool to see these guys get more like them
This is just a guess on the Egyptian gods but:
Reaper = Anubis
Illari = Khonsu or Ra
Doomfist = Sekhmet
Echo = Isis
Pharah = Horus
Same god, but they've called Echo's skin 'Aset'. Likely because of something-particularly-infamous that-isn't-a-god-also-being-named-Isis. Understandably, of course.
Good to see they’re still making Polar skins
Now to see Rein and Brig get their own. And eventually Baptiste and Mercy
Those skins are peak
Tell me about it, right now I’m having trouble deciding on if I should get the rein skin or the kiriko skin (so I could see what the kitsune looks like. Like even soldier has a freaking dog mask and mercy is wearing dress
Just a thought. But I guess Torb isn’t the only captain now that Sigma getting a sailor skin
And seems Zenyatta will finally get help in the kitchen with that chef Genji skin
Also, fun detail to note about the Dorthy Ashe skin, Blizzard got the slippers right
I’ll be honest, I did though of a Dorthy skin for Ashe but I thought bob would be that dog or maybe the cowardly lion
Illari is thoth
I don’t get why they split skins from one theme into different seasons
because they were probably supposed to be tied to the PvE
that means theres still a chance it can happen (im coping)
Wait so polar skins, so there would be a mission on Antarctica
Ram’s omnium possibly??
that's what I think
Any news on the next line of heroes after Juno?
all we know is this mysterious tank we saw in the doodle
Still don’t get what is Ana, kiri and soldier supposed to be
after this maybe emre and hivemind at some point?
Emre was mentioned by sojourn recently in a voice line
So plausible
yep
the recent addition of that havana voiceline has me convinced
they dont just add these things out of nowhere
But after mauga they just decided to come up with new characters entirely
tbf tho theres always been some gaps
if we track it out
lets see
echo was in previous
Moira was teased with a voice line also
sojourn was in previous
junker queen was in previous
kiriko unseen
ram was in previous
lifeweaver unseen
illari unseen
mauga was in previous
Echo is ow1 hero tho
yh im just starting from an arbitrary point lmao
and yh venture and juno were both unseen
venture is from a completely differnt faction
youre right to say that theres defo been more completely unseen ones than before i think
however i still think it's a matter of spacing tbh
also w this new model theyre now releasing heroes at a much higher volume than they were at the end of ow1
this along w the situation the lore is in means that it's more likely we just have characters dropped in on us
anyone?
Skins I mean
i rly cant say w any certainty sorryyyy
Emre is Turkish allegedly right?
I’m so
Wait
Ignore the ping if you see it 😭, I misread all three of those names somehow
I’d like to point out venture was teased sense Petra
not rly a proper teaser because venture themselves was not indicated
rather it was the wayfinders and even then im pretty sure there was no name confirmation
it's a bit like saying kiriko was teased as the "kanezaka fox girl" but the character herself was just not in lore whatsoever
When a voice line from ow1 gets removed does it take away it’s canonical value?
it's a good q tho because sometimes theres some "soft" contradictions
notable examples being some that sombra has in ow1 vs 2
but still yh hypothetical and also theres distinguishing between some of the more "silly" ones and ones that we take as more lore accurate
grey areas and all that fun stuff
It just seems like some characters had tons of voicelines together in ow1 but have nothing in ow2
I want someone to rate me cuz i want to be the next character
man im excited to see the reactions of venture and ram to anubis
cuz if venture DOES have the real anubis with them, they might yknow have an interesting line
Insert witty comment about venture not having any skins
DID ANYONE GET THE BLACK SCREEN WITH REAPER BREATHING
Whomst?
There's signs in Numbani and Midtown referencing an Atlantic arcology IIRC
What do we know about it?
quite a bit acc it's currently where lifeweaver is hanging out
Neat
it's a self sustaining city in the atlantic ocean (presumably underwater) and was founded by the martins couple
who u can see portraits of on esperanca
We get more info on it in the Sym-LW short story
it's a big collective of scientists and other such professions and they have legal independence
yep it's acc one of the top picks i think for a new one
Make it a clash map
also makes sense cos lifeweaver doesnt rly have any maps that tie to his lore
Yeah they're holding it in their back pocket I imagine
tbh i think it's a bit far off unfortunately
Neither does Juno
i get the feeling w the new clash game mode theyre gonna rinse those first
because they can re use the assets from 2cp easily
ashe at least has route 66
tracer has king's row
and torb and brig wouldve had gothenburg which was gonna be a 2cp map
😭
but they never released it when they canned 2cp for ow2
but i think it'll be coming soon
either as clash or a payload map
yea
Widow has Chateu Guillard
also yh mercy and zurich would be nice
zurich also being the location of the old overwatch hq means that it's been requested like FOREVER
baptiste doesnt rly have one
I also think they have the destroyed OW headquarters in their back pocket as a map
Ramattra - Nepal, Shambali Monastery
id love a port de paix or tortuga map
Reinhardt - Eichenwalde
Roadhog - Junkertown
Sigma - nothin
Winston - Horizon Lunar Colony, Watchpoint: Gibraltar
Hampter - Horizon Lunar Colony, Junkertown
Zarya - Volskaya Industries (barely)
Ashe - Route 66
Bastion - Black Forest
sombra - dorado, castillo
lucio - paraiso
tbh i think of route 66 more when i think of echo
Junkrat - Junkertown, New Junk City
just cos of the cinematic
also Antarctic peninsula now too
Reaper - not sure
Sojourn - New Queen's Street
Soldier: 76 - not sure
Sombra - Castillo
Symmetra - not sure
Torbjorn - Gotheburg (rip)
reaper's a bit of a funny one cos he's been to a lot of places but i dont think theyll ever make a map for his actual place of birth in LA
partially cos they already have 2 california maps
Tracer - Watchpoint: Gibraltar, King's Row
but also cos his home just isnt v relevant to his character
venture also has ilios too
Ana - Necropolis
Baptiste - not sure
Brigitte - Gothenburg (rip)
Illari - Runasapi
Juno - nothin
also the new throne of anubis i reckon
Kiriko - Kanezaka
but we'll see
Lifeweaver - nothin
but i think ana might get some cool stuff for this asw as venture, ram and pharah
Lucio - Estádio das Rãs
PARAISO
terrible map but paraiso was great for pve
moira has oasis
one of the spawn rooms is literally her lab
I forgor 💀
So we're missing home stages for Ramattra, Sigma, Echo, Reaper, Soldier: 76, Symmetra, Torbjorn, Tracer, Baptiste, Brigitte, Juno, Lifeweaver, and Mercy
tracer we have
I still disagree with your assertion that it's king's row
and i kinda feel like we wont ever get reaper and soldier
True
it defo is she has unique voicelines for it even
plus the iconic widowmaker battle
also id say ram for shambali counts
yh "how dare you come back here"
I want a Null Sector map
i THINK and this isnt confirmed
but ram mightve been hiding out on antarctic peninsula in the now discontinued pve story
this is only a vague indication because of some polar skins and also a few other rumours i heard floating abt
but it's kinda irrelevant now ig
bring back uprising kr fr
I mean junos map is on the way
It is>
I swear i saw pics leaked but talking to a friend he said there wasn’t any at all so it was probably a dream lmao
Nah theres been no leak of a mars colony map as far as ik
They wouldnt even have it completed at this stage i don't think
Theyre only just releasing hanaoka and throne of anubis
I think the one after that could v well be the mars colony map ... maybe for flashpoint
Will we get a map next season or will they cop out bc we got two this time even 😣
Like
Two for season twelve I mean
I feel like a new anubis tank should exist, like side by side with ramattra.
Ramattra the leader and anubis is his partner in crime with the creation and programming of the omnic army
I need to think back to what they did last time
We got 2 flashpoint in s6
Did we get a new map in s8 i think we did
Samoa
So the precedent would suggest no they probs wouldnt cop out
Also the only problem w this is that anubis doesnt have a moveable hardware ... his sarcophagus is so massive that it cant move
Unless ofc u subscribe to the theory that he's transferred/transferring his intelligence to another hardware
Which ive thought abt a bit i dont rly feel too strong abt it one way or the other
Oasis tower? Using those « eye » hardware Soldier gave Sombra and that Venture has in their possession ?
That is, of course, very speculative
This is something ive heard altho im not certain
Throne of Anubis looking phenomenally beautiful
